juno May 14, 2022 Author Share May 14, 2022 This is really funny. Yes, there is a ton of hockey and swearing but there is a lot of heart. 2 Link to comment
juno May 29, 2022 Author Share May 29, 2022 Just watched all 6 episodes and this was really good. Very hockey, very Canadian and very funny. It is like if Slap Shot the movie becoming a TV series. They altered the personality of Shoresy from Letterkenny and made him less chirpy and less agressive towards females. He is nicer, less dirty and a good leader and teamate. Link to comment
AncientNewbie June 17, 2022 Share June 17, 2022 I just started last night, but I'm enjoying it. They did make Shoresy a little more palatable and a better person than his Letterkenny bits, without totally altering the character. I laughed a lot through the first two episodes. 2 Link to comment

I was surprised to see it to this degree. Some of it is obvious (like making the Bulldogs into a team) and some is more subtle (like how Shoresy feels about the reporter, which I thought at first was a goof but now I am wondering if he is sincere). I have zero hockey knowledge and only slightly more Canada slang knowledge, so this show is like PBS for me. I'm learning all the time. For anyone who knows hockey, are all these terms and practices legit? Also, let me tell you a true story. I was in Toronto maybe 10 years ago, for work. Over the weekend, I decided to park downtown and see the city. So I found a public parking lot, and the attendant told me the price and then asked if I had a "loonie." I had no idea what he was talking about. "A what?" I asked. "A loonie!" The attendant had an accent of some kind, so I thought maybe I was mishearing him. I asked again, and he shouted at my car window, "A LOONIE!" I just shook my head, saying, "I have no idea what you mean." Frustrated, he waved me through. That night, I told the story to one of my Canadian friends, who fell out of her chair laughing. She still brings it up. How was I to know what loonie meant, bud?! The coin says "dollar!" I had to get sorted, I guess. 1 1 Link to comment

Seriously? A little surprised. Yes, all the slang is real and even as a Canadian I had to look some of it up. BTW a Twonie is 2 dollars for your next trip. 2 Link to comment

mledawn October 18 Share October 18 I finally caved and watched all 3 seasons of this show and will definitely watch the 4th. As someone who loves hockey and comes from a small town, I've had friends trying to convince me to watch Letterkenny and Shoresy for years. I had assumed it was going to be a mysogynistic trashheap but when I learned you didn't have to have watched Letterkenny to watch Shoresy, I started with Shoresy. I really didn't want to like this but I did. I laughed out loud a few times per episode and the setup for the final season was well done. So many inside hockey jokes and bits of Canadiana. I loved the way they let Hitch run wild with the Newfoundlander accent and phrases - "Stay where you're to 'til I comes where you're at, b'ys" Lots of H!ITG Canadians in this show. I remember Laurence LeBeuf from her role on Durham County years ago. Seeing her in this was fantastic. Also seeing Jordan and Brandon Nolan as two of the Jims was fun - that's legit hockey pedigree, Jordan having won the Cup a few times. I love how Shoresy watches all his teammates wheeling women, but he prefers the older set, and is loyal to Laura throughout the series. I like how the women wheel the men just as much, call the players sluts (while you don't hear the players calling the women bunnies), and that Nat, Ziig, and Miig are very much in charge of the team. The cast does tours, playing charity hockey games against retired NHLers or local oldtimers teams, so they're definitely getting mileage out of this. Related to the loonie debacle upthread, there's some attempt to get the new loonies with King Charles on them called "Chuck bucks" but I don't think that's going to stick... 1 Link to comment
