Shining Vale is eight half-hour episode horror comedy series, where the horror portions are truly horrifying. Episodes 1 and 2 are airing on March 6 at 10 PM on Starz. The rest of the episodes air weekly on Sunday.

At the center of Shining Vale is Patricia “Pat” Phelps (Courteney Cox) is a former “wild child” who rose to fame by writing a raunchy, drug-and-alcohol-soaked women’s empowerment novel (a.k.a. lady porn). Pat was a faithful wife until her one slip-up: she had a torrid affair with the hot, young handyman who came over to fix the sink while her husband, Terry (Greg Kinnear), was at work. In a last-ditch effort to save their marriage, she and Terry cash in all their savings and move the family move from the “crazy” of Brooklyn to a large, old 200-year-old Victorian mansion in the suburbs, the site of a triple murder-suicide in Shining Vale, Connecticut. No wonder the house has been on the market for almost three years and sold for more than $250K below the asking price.

But once there, Pat (a 17-years-sober alcoholic battling depression) starts worrying she may have schizophrenia like her mom — or, the house is haunted by a housewife from the 1950's who commited those murders, Rosemary, played by Mira Sorvino. Everyone has their demons, but for Pat Phelps, her's may be real.

Pat can only see Rosemary in a heightened state, like when Pat is on medications, or when stressed or anxious. Rosemary is either a figment of Pat's imagination, or her alter ego, or her muse, as together they find the motivation to write, party, and possibly murder, whenever Pat Phelps loses consciousness. Is Rosemary a ghost or a demon trying to possess Pat.

Shining Vale tells the story of a family in turmoil who is suddenly living with a paranormal who helps Pat get her groove back as she starts to question her own sanity. But no one seems to notice except for Pat, who’s convinced she’s either depressed or possessed – turns out, the symptoms are exactly the same.

Greg Kinnear will play Terry Phelps, Pat’s sweet, sensitive husband. He assumed he was married to the perfect wife until she had an affair with their young handyman, destroying the kitchen island, and maybe his marriage. Ever the optimist, Terry is willing to do whatever it takes to keep his family together, including intensive couples therapy and cashing in all his assets to buy an Old Victorian house in the suburbs of Connecticut, trading his 12-minute commute for a 90-minute train ride into the city. Despite his brave face and can-do spirit, it is clear that he has some deep-seated resentment, which occasionally peeks out as rage. Especially when his wife tells him she believes their new house is haunted. Terry’s challenge will be to ride out whatever is going on with Pat, without completely losing his own mind in the process.

Gus Birney plays Gaynor Phelps, Pat and Terry’s 16-year-old daughter who is going through that awful phase where she’s smarter than everyone and angry at the world—and by the world we mean her mother, whom she (rightfully) blames for uprooting the family from Brooklyn to suburban Connecticut. She spars with Pat over sex, drinking, school, drugs, the weather—everything, really—mostly because she’s exactly like her mom was when Pat was her age. They become even more similar once Pat becomes possessed.

Dylan Gage plays Jake Phelps, the Phelps’ pubescent son who is always glued to some sort of screen. He has severe ADHD and OCD so he quickly forgets what he’s obsessing about. Deeply quirky, and deeply sweet, he has his father’s temper which, like everything else about Jake, comes out at the oddest moments. A sensitive soul, Jake attracts other sensitive souls– some of whom died years ago in the house.

Mira Sorvino will play Rosemary, who is either Pat’s alter ego, a split personality, her id, her muse, or a demon trying to possess her. Sometimes playful, sometimes evil, often tragic, Rosemary has been roaming the halls of Pat’s new house for 70 years, searching for a vulnerable soul to live vicariously through. She sees in Pat a kindred spirit: Like Pat, she was unfulfilled in her role as a dutiful housewife — and as a result, she may or may not have slaughtered her entire family, straightened up the house, then took her own life in the bathtub that Pat now uses to relax. In any case, Rosemary promises to help Pat get her groove back and finish her novel, if Pat will simply agree to let Rosemary “come inside her,” a bargain that may haunt Pat forever.

Judith Light will play Joan, Pat’s Lithium-infused mother, who long has battled mental illness — and her daughter, who she blames for her mental illness. Joan is vain and hyper-critical, taking any opportunity to recall her prized youth or belittle Pat. Of all the horrors that Pat faces, becoming Joan is the most frightening — and most real.

Merrin Dungey plays Kam, Pat’s oldest friend and book editor, a no-bullshit straight talker who knows and loves Pat more than Pat does herself. Kam has been with Pat through the highs of Pat selling her first novel to the lows of everything that has happened since. She is the one person Pat can rely on for tough love, but Kam is running out of patience: If Pat does not give Kam a book she can sell, then Kam will have no choice but to leave her — this time for good.

Alysia Reiner plays Kathryn, a razor-sharp, successful New York professional (Wharton graduate) who’s extremely comfortable with herself and the most successful woman in the male-dominated “low-risk moderate-return insurance-backed securities field”. She is Terry’s co-worker/“work wife” and “office crush.” Terry and Kathryn’s relationship might prove to be a little too friendly… and a little too costly for both of them.

I don't want to read any spoilers, I am still 2 eps behind but I am wondering if they mentioned if the show has been renewed??

The article says that the show has not been renewed just yet, but they do have a plan if they get a Season 2. It says that a lot of the show is homages to horror movies and it will greatly increase your pleasure of the show in you have watched a lot of them, especially "The Shining".
