Inquisitionist July 18, 2021 Share July 18, 2021 I've watched many McCartney interviews on youtube and read a lot of articles, so I went into this thinking "What could he possibly say that I haven't heard/read already?" Boy, was I pleasantly surprised. This article gives some insight into why. Quote The pitch to Paul, who had some downtime during the pandemic (though he continued to record), was less about McCartney as a cultural icon than about his bona fides as a bloke who plays bass (and piano, guitar, and drums, among many other instruments). Pollack continues, “We felt that what might appeal to Paul was to really focus on his extraordinary musical chops. … He really hadn’t been approached about that sort of focus before. And I think it felt fresh to him.” And music producer Rick Rubin (whom I'd not heard of before) was a great choice as interviewer for this approach. Really worth watching even if you think you know everything about Paul and the Beatles already! 3 Link to comment
tessaray July 20, 2021 Share July 20, 2021 We just finished the 3rd episode. It definitely is so much better than most of the talking head documentaries. The staging is wonderful and I agree that this Rick Rubin guy was an inspired choice for interviewer, the way he draws McCartney out. I like they included Baby's in Black, which is a personal favorite for reasons... 🙂 2 Link to comment
BuckeyeLou July 20, 2021 Share July 20, 2021 A very interesting series...we are Baby Boomers & remember the early Beatles(watching them on the Ed Sullivan show :) So, this was just fascinating to hear about the early days & other musicians they met & how they collaborated on music. And for young people who dont know much about the background of the Beatles, it is a good way to appreciate the Beatles' musician-ship & influence. 1 Link to comment
tessaray July 23, 2021 Share July 23, 2021 I was a little sad finishing it. If they decide to release on DVD with extra footage, I'd be in. Or maybe a part 2? With 15 hours of raw footage, hopefully there'd be enough. Link to comment
