I think it's for the best. I kind of liked it but it just didn't fully gel for me.

I never understood why both kids ended up in the same place far from home

Kyra's last post-The Closer series was another one-and-done terribly written show too. It was a drama (Ten Days in the Valley). 
Well, now she knows the problem wasn't drama vs comedy. 
If her goal was to give newbies in the biz opportunities, she's going to have to pick at least a few show runner types who can spot talent.
