I maybe could, with a bunch of paperwork. Grew up in Detroit, took the tunnel to Windsor to visit my grandmother. My dad was a Canadian citizen when I was born, though he wasn’t born in Canada. My brother somehow obtained Canadian citizenship (though born after my dad became American). He still lives in California, though.

Same here. I’ve been there 22 times, once for a month, once for 2 months, other times about 2 weeks. I attended a couple webinars. The retiree visa is not impossible, though a lot of paperwork. Income requirements for the visa not impossible. Living in Paris, though, takes money I don’t have. But my friends are in Paris, and since I have liver disease, I need at least a city with good medical care. It’s actually not that good in rural (cheaper) France … lack of doctors.

Er, he’s gay and has no need of a wife, nor a husband, it seems! My oldest, best French friend is also gay and I’ve been trying to get him to marry me for years, but long ago he married an Algerian (or Tunisian? Moroccan?) friend so she could travel more easily. (And he and I are twins—born on same day, same year, and he was an astrologer when we met!)

Yes, too expensive pour moi. But he’s been there for ages. I have two other friends in Paris with modest incomes/pensions but longtime residences. One is in a kind of subsidized estate, but nice … buildings surrounding a park in the 19th arrondissement.

The one in Turkey is no more and he does at least sometimes rent out the Paris one, probably the Nice one too if he still has it. He travels a lot, recently to Eastern Europe but also to India a lot. Both low-budget.

I don’t think he’s rich. The place in Turkey was really cheap. I’ve seen his place in Paris, it’s in a coveted part of town but a walkup and he’s my age, late 6os, so the stairs are going to be a problem in the future. I’m not sure if he still has the place in Nice, but he has rented out his Paris place when he is out of the country for a while.

In all seriousness, I have a French friend who has an apartment in Paris and one in Nice. He bought a place in Turkey because he loved it there. But after a few years, the repressive regime was too much for him. He’s back in Paris. (Gay, Jewish and originally Algerian, if it matters. A novelist, so he got at least one novel out of it.)

Well, I’ve lived in NYC for47 years and would love to move to France, but there is nothing like NYC, especially if you’re young (or rich). And not everywhere in Europe is great.

But TJ is worse. Not telling her she will be a slave after the wedding!
