HP fans have been bitching for years that he wasn't calm when he asked Harry if he put his name in the Goblet of Fire like in the books. It was Gambon's idea to play Dumbledore be shaken to the core instead and he was right. Movies are different than books and if you're going to convey to non-book readers that Harry being entered into the tournament means someone is trying to get him killed, "calm" aint going to cut it.

    RIP.

He definitely made the role his own and did well as Dumbledore. It couldn't have been easy replacing Richard Harris after two films.

For all the jokes and memes about how he shouted "Harry, did you put your name in the goblet of fire," he did amazing job in the role. It couldn't have been easy replacing Richard Harris two movies in... RIP Sir.

OMG, that nearly ruined the show for me. I really felt for Mitch, because damn.

The Mitch and Cam relationship was the worst of the show's main couples. Neither of them seemed to care about each other, and too many of their storylines together were about one, or both, of them hiding something from the other or being annoyed at the other about something.

I also got annoyed at how sterotypically gay they were portrayed as. So many of the jokes were about how catty/effeminate they were. And yet, the show gets treated as some big step forward in representation... Representation matters, but I would argue the quality of that representation is as important, if not more so, then the quantity. What good is having LGBTQ+ characters if they play into sterotypes?

I can’t see Disney or WB going forward with The Marvels or Aquaman without the stars available for the press tour.

Honest question; why not? Yeah, they want all the publicity they can get, but are people really going to see the next big Marvel/DC movie because they see an actor on a talk show? I see actors doing press tours and other kinds of publicity as more vital to lesser known movies, not the next instalment of a super well known franchise. They can get the date out to remind the public the movie's coming in other ways, without actors, especially in the age of social media.

And Emily did ultimately realize that, which was why she ended things.

Good for her, but I wish she wouldn’t have gone through with the wedding. That should have been proof Ross wasn’t over Rachel, assuming she knew their history between each other. It’s been a while since I rewatched, so I’m not sure what she knew about their relationship. Either way, having your fiancé say someone else’s name at the alter would at the very least be cause to take them off to the side and see what was going on.

I loved that scene in Grace and Frankie because it was true.  There is that sort of feeling where you are supposed to feel ok because they are living their true selves after so much oppression but they still  did a really shitty thing.  Something similar happened on 9-1-1 where there is this great scene of Athena angry mashing potatoes (to a Mary J. Blige song, no less!) where she is making dinner to welcome her ex's new man.  That he cheated on her with.  And she rightfully says 'no one would require this of me if that was a woman he slept with.'

It remains one of my favorite scenes of the entire series, and I appreciated that it happened early on (episode three).  And it fits the thread, because Robert and Sol taking until the kids lay into them to realize "it's too soon" is an astoundingly stupid thing:

I feel the same way about Ross on Friends with Carol and Susan. They really treat him poorly, basically as a sperm donor.

  7. I will never not love Hugh Lauries take on the matter... FWIW; I think Rachel was wrong to go with the intent of telling Ross how she feels, even if she never did. Intent means alot, and what good would be done by telling a guy on his wedding day that you love him? Just another reason I hated Ross and Rachel together; they always seemed to only ever want to be together when the other was with someone else and were extremely toxic and posessive towards other partners the other had(i.e. Julie).

  8. In a mood for a stupid slasher flick so I’m rewatching Prom Night 2008. I know slasher flicks aren’t know for having the he smartest characters, but there’s a hotel maid who is so stupid that if she wasn’t killed by the murderer, I would hope she was fired. A group of friends are staying at a hotel where their prom is being held. One is being stalked by the murderer who is obsessed with her. He follows them to their floor and sees what room. Then, as the housekeeper passes, he says his room key doesn’t work. She tries the key he has and when it doesn’t work does she say, “Oh you’ll have to go down and have them make you a new one.” She just lets him in with her master key and says he can have a new key brought up. He then gets her in the room by asking for more towels, kills her and steals the master key. I’m just sitting here thinking that any hotel worker who did that in real life would be fired. Even in 2008, you would have to show ID before being let into a hotel room you were locked out of…

  9. I was just thinking how 2019's Pet Sematary remake could have been better. If they hadn't spoiled in the trailers and marketing that the daughter dies instead of the son, like in the book and original film. They even do a fake-out where it looks like the son is going to be killed. Imagine it; you're watching it, presumably knowing the boy dies in the book and original movie. They have the fake-out and you're taking by surprise. Then comes the reveal that it's the girl who dies. What a shocking moment that could have been!

For what it's worth, I also feel the same about the Hulk being in Thor: Ragnarok. It would have been amazing to be sitting there in the theater and all of a sudden the Hulk comes out! Although that one is more understandable to me due to how much behind the scenes work goes into the Hulk, and how it would have probably been difficult to keep under wraps.

Or is post-production really taking that long? This was supposed to come out last year.

That’s true! I forgot about that. That combined with no trailers yet really speaks to some kind of drama going on behind the scenes of this film.

Still odd that there's no trailer yet.

It really is. Not to sound all conspiratorial, but I wonder if WB is trying to sink this. There were 2 DC movies this summer, there should have been a trailer for DC's next movie coming out in a few months before them. Even I, who is not in marketing, know that's a no-brainier. The fact that they aren't even marketing the film to people seeing DC films in theaters speaks volumes, IMO.

They make it seem like it's a tragedy of life to get stuck living in a small town setting

Unless you are some big city career person, especially a woman, who needs some small town, down home wisdom about slowing down and appreciating life, usually done if you're a woman by staring a romance with a rugged local man...

She was an awesome Snow White.

This. And the Once Upon A Time TV series had many, MANY flaws but nobody ever complained about Ginnifer Godwin’s Snow White being a badass bandit princess.

True, but I would argue the show did Snow a disservice by sidelining her in favor of the creators' darling, Regina. To the extent we were actually supposed to blame a preteen/teenaged Snow for Regina's boyfriend being killed by Regina's mom...

I will admit I cringed when I saw Zigler's comments, because it came across a bit as putting down the original to prop up the remakes, which I feel happens for the Disney princess remakes a lot(i.e. the remake is taking modern sensibilities about women, romance and sexuality into account so it's "fixing" the original) but I hate how it seems people are piling on.

Why did Nick become disaffected with Amy?  The reason she grew to hate him is obvious, he took her out of NY, took all her money, shut her out of everything, leaving her at home and then was cheating.

She was too much of a nag about getting stuck in MO?  Or she dropped her Cool Girl thing, stopped doing all the sexual favors she says she did to win him over.

It's been a while since I've seen the movie or read the book, but I think it was that he was unhappy where his life had led and looked for fulfilment elsewhere?

  15. I really enjoyed the Haunted Mansion movie. What does it say about me when the whole internet seems to be talking about Barbie and Oppenheimer that this is the movie I was looking forward to this month?

While I agree people hate on things without giving them a chance, I get why people hate on the remakes. After seeing a couple I pretty much avoid them. I let my guard down with Pinocchio last year. Was bored one day and thought, how bad can it be? It was bad. I think the difference with this is they aren't trying to fix something that wasn't broke, which is how I feel about the remakes as a whole. Find new, interesting stories to tell. There is a whole world of mythology and fairytales they could use! Why not fairy tales from outside Europe? Folklore from Asia, Africa or indigenous Americans? Live action or animated.

This film, however, is different, since the first film was such a letdown for fans of the ride and the concept had such potential. And they did it well! They do a great job of capturing both the spooky and fun aspects of the ride(they call them "grim grinning ghosts" after all) and it has so many references and call backs to things from the ride without hitting you over the head with it.

    Some fun deep cuts from Haunted Mansion History;

    Spoiler

The Hatbox Ghost's name, Krump, is from Imagineer Rolly Krump who was one of the lead designers of the ride.

Krump Manor is designed on the Florida version of the ride, which has a different exterior design then the original California version.

Danny DeVeto's character's last name is Davis, which is the last name of another lead designer of the ride Marc Davis

  16. Just read "Are You There God, It's Me Margaret." Her mom's parents were piece of work anti-semites, but I also hated how her parents handled religion. She was obviously looking for a greater community connection and while they said she can pick whatever faith they could have really helped her in her spiritual journey by imparting the beliefs of the traditions they grew up in and being more open to her exploring the traditional beliefs of both sides of her family, instead of questioning why she wants to go to temple/church.

I heavily disapprove of this, but this could explain why he greeted Team Cap in Infinity War with anything other than bullets to their heads.

I don't believe for a second the real Rhodey would do that given the fact they were trying to save half of all life in the universe. He might not have been friendly with them, but he would not let personal issues get in the way of looking at what was at stake and when you consider he would have known Tony was up in space and that Team Cap was Earth's best hope.

I loved Sonya so I'm willing to see how this partnership works out. Does Sam Jackson want out, is Olivia Coleman replacing him?

I love Olivia Coleman so I would be here for that, but Jackson is in The Marvels, so if she does replace him I'm assuming that will be in the future. I'm also assuming he will be in Secret Wars? I don't know much about that storyline, but I'm guessing this was leading to it.

K.E.V.I.N. said in interviews that Rhodey might have been a Skrull in the movies. Yeah, I know the MCU showrunners fuck with us in a regular basis but I’m pretty sure they’re saying Rhodey has been replaced pre-Snap.

Interesting, I had not heard that...

He was in a hospital gown and could barely walk. So that pretty much confirms it was after the battle in Civil War. So everything we've seen from Rhodey from that point on was literally skrullshit.

Not necessarily. It just means he didn't have the braces Tony made him.

Nobody will remake a Christmas Carol where Tiny Tim dies or Romeo and Juliet where they survive.

You obviously haven't seen FX's Christmas Carol a few years back which starts with somebody peeing on Jacob Marley's grave and, if I understand correctly since I never made it through the first episode, they made Mrs. Cratchet a witch?

I think people would have a lot less hatred towards the remakes if they actually did more creative things with the movies, as opposed to "Look at the same shot from the original, just live-action!" It's clear they aren't trying to do new or exciting things, just doing a cheaper version, since live action is much less cost then animation, though CGI might impact that... Also; I am more open to remakes of stories that have been around for years, like Dickens and Shakespeare. I would even be happier if they did remakes of their less-loved live action films, like "The Great Mouse Detective" "Atlantis" or even "The Black Cauldron." Shine light on those films that didn't get the recognition they deserved.
