She basically gutted the apartment that she paid 4.2 million so she is deep in the hole for this place to cut it to that price. I mean I assume they were trying to get a few people bidding so it will go over asking at that price which could still happen it’s not looking great for her making money.

It is not in a good Soho location.  It is on the second floor, almost right on the street; it is one block from the overcrowded Canal Street.   And to boot, the design is ridiculous, very long front to back which is to my thinking  very impractical.  The bedroom in the middle appears to get little or no air or light.   Apartments in this price range are not selling, and if you have that much money to buy, there are many more attractive options.  Her apartment with Jason probably would have sold even in this market, albeit at a lower price than she sold for, because of the location and layout.  Never understood why she bought this Mercer Street place.  Even the non real estate genius that I am recognized it was not a desirable property.

Wow! Now it's convenient for Sierra call Priya for help!

Good job Sasha! You have pushed her back to Noah.

Helen proposed to ditch school for the movies and the kids wanted none of it.

How long has Helen been divorced from Noah? Did she need to lose her job over this and all those moms staring at her?

The way Busy Philipps said "forward" bothered me.

Surprised the police haven't blocked the road (with that low visibility) or maybe Sasha has deep connections, promised them a part in his next movie and they allowed Helen to drive through.

Furkat (of all people) called Noah a massive prick?! Thanks for the good laugh!!

The woman sitting next to Whitney had the right idea wearing the noise cancelling headphones.

Colin you can do better. He took the news about her cheating well!

Per Colin: "it's really late", What time does ice cream shops close in California?

Oh yeah, I forgot Helen’s being fired because of the Noah scandal.   And she didn’t even say “what has that got to do with me,” or that said firing was illegal.

  3. The second half was a series of Ted talks put in characters’ mouths. That long dialogue by Audrey Nelson on the plane was tedious.  Now Whitney has translated that to explain her whole life and her own bad decisions taking no responsibility for herself.

Was the whole character of Colin changed in a single scene?   Now he is this loving caring artist who doesn’t expect dinner to be on the table when he comes home.  And btw to the writer who wrote Colin’s dialogue, Ireland has some rather serious problems too.

I dont think Treem will ever redeem Noah.  I think a Treem thinks the way Audrey Nelson thinks.  I wouldn’t be surprised if she kills him off at this point.  Then we’ll be left with the question of what was Noah really like?

I wish Treem had stuck to the original story and stuck with the characters she had developed to date.

Oh,  nice that they remembered that Priya existed.

Me too!  (#)  Don't go talk to the reporter!!  Don't go to that reception!!  don't grab her arm!!  NOAH!  You're a moron.  At least they didn't have the new PR lady instantly act all flirty with him too, while giving him advice he wouldn't take.

I can see why the bloom is off the rose with Sasha for Helen, but I don't get why she is suddenly willing to go back to Noah.  Other than, I guess, he's like comfortable old slipper when she is stressed about everything else.

They conveniently included a scene with her in the previouslies.

Is Noah going to jail again for something he didn't do and is Helen going to rise to his defense by publicly saying she did it?  Course then she'd have to go to jail, I guess.   Maybe they could find an implausible way around that pesky detail.  Is Noah going to commit suicide?   His character's actions are so bizarre that it would not be unlikely.   With Treem, anything is possible.    There will be so much left dangling at the end; there just isn't time anymore.

Oh, I FF'd the previouslies, so I missed Audrey.  Thanks for the tip.   She is in my recollection but very vaguely.

  5. Does anyone suppose that Noah will go out "screaming into the canyon at the moment of my death."  At this point it would not shock me.   Will he be in jail with all these accusations?   We know what happened last time he was in jail.  Is Brendan Fraser still available to play the guard?

  6. I enjoyed the episode; the acting was superb, including the smaller players like Janel Maloney , Noah's publisher, and the fixer who gives him such good advice that he ignores, Sasha's daughter.  Then there was Richard Schiff and  Jennifer JL.  But it was ruined a bit for me by Noah's being so incredibly stupid that it was not realistic.    Now Noah's even been accused of being potentially responsible for Alison's suicide then making a fool of himself at Eden's party, what next?

If JJL is supposed to be such a famous actress why did the social worker not bat an eye when her name was brought up?   And again, why no mention of Priya.  Did Sierra complete her role in Madame Bovary in spite of post partum?

How could Helen have decorated so many homes in such a short time.  And if that business was going so well why would she have wanted to work at a firm where people were so snotty?  That "interview" was ridiculous.

I don't see how anything will be successfully resolved in the three remaining episodes, but I'll settle for the good acting, if that continues.   Not looking forward to any Joanie/Ben scenes.

I just read this story on yahoo and I had to post this quote from Bethenny.

“I have amazing ideas and I execute and I’m honest and I’m straightforward and I’m cutthroat… I’m just not the one who’s going to be complaining about ‘woe is me,’” Frankel said at Yahoo Finance’s All Markets Summit, when asked about the challenges of being a female entrepreneur.

Right, we believe that pile of Crap.  That was all she did season after season.

Like the lunchmeat, the luggage, the vitamins, the original shapewear, the  blender, the chocolates, the Sparklers, the talk show, the house below the highway (sold at a loss), the Mercer Street apartment (still for sale), what am I missing?    There was nothing original anywhere except the margarita.   The popcorn is Orville Redenbacher's; she slapped her name on it.   She's a hard worker and she hustles, but original she is not.

  8. I was surprised that after Chelsea's supposed anxiety attacks she'd want to live in such a big open space with no neighbors.  I'd feel more vulnerable in such a big space.  I don't think her mother was inappropriate, but I don't think Chelsea was either.  I think a 45 minutes drive is nothing, but it almost seemed as if Chelsea's mother was dropping in after work and she won't be able to do that.  In states like South Dakota, I'd think drives that length are the norm.

Luisa worked as a maid for Helen's parents.

I know.  Noah isn’t Helen; his background was poor.  Cole’s background was not wealthy or upper class.  Who scorned Luisa because of her background?   What right had she to say she was nothing more than an employee to them.    I think Treem was just trying to get some social commentary in, but the facts didn’t fit.

I like the character of Luisa & I like the actress playing her.  But her appearance in this ep felt forced & just thrown in outta nowhere.

We don’t really know why Joshua didn’t return this season.  It was said he never intended to.  I’m not buying that.  His presence is as missed as Ruth’s, since Alison & Cole are referred to so much this season & certainly in this ep.

Whiny Whitney is still whiny as fuck.  When she asked Noah why he left Helen & the kids, I screamed at my TV — get the fuck over it, ya brat & mind your own business & quit whining & live your life & move on!  Would a conversation like this EVER happen?  NO!  Would you ask your parents why exactly they divorced?  It’s their business & their choice.  Jeez, can Whitney ever stop whining?

And why the hell does Whitney need a fancy schmancy billionaire’s wedding when she’s marrying some jobless, penniless bum?

Whitney was as entitled as ever, flying into Montauk and going to the most expensive bridal shop in town, even though she knows money is tight (by Butler standards).   Then she is bitchy to the clerk (although as has been mentioned, the clerk would never say or act the way treem wrote it) who earns a saleswoman's wages and is sick of dealing with Montauk's snippy rich and famous.  Of course as a poster upthread said nobody buys a $17,000 gown in Montauk to begin with; they shop in NYC.  Also she conveniently forgot to mention to Noah that the really rich guy was watching when she cheated on her idiot loser with Furcat.

Another item of many that were not believable is Noah's casually deciding to go see Joanie.  He hasn't mentioned Joanie since he left the East Coast.  Taking care of her for two years must have built up quite a bond.  Oh, well, she's left for Vermont, so sad.

I enjoyed Dominic West's performance in the Butler house and I love Helen's mother.  That was about it  for my enjoyment of the episode.   DW did his best with the dialogue he had.    Shouldn't Noah have enough money to spring for a big wedding if that is what whiny daughter wants?

I also don't think Luisa's treatment of Noah was fair or believable.  No one treated Luisa like some lower class immigrant maid the way she implied.  It's not exactly as if Cole was from a high rent family; remember his mother?   And wasn't her plan to leave the country and start her immigration process all over again?  I think she has a nice hunk of change from the Lobster Roll.

I basically have just skimmed these episodes.  I remember the first episode mentioning the husband had a meeting in Houston.. I didn't realize they lived there.

Yes, that is my recollection.  We don't know where Joanie lives with her family.  But do we know where EJ lives?  When Joanie magically teleported herself to his apartment and looked out EJ's window, there were high rises in her view.   I don't think it was Montauk, was it?  Not that I really care.

  13. I was relieved to get a break from Noah and Helen, but I didn't really anticipate an hour of Joanie and EJ.  EJ the creep, and Joanie the cold, beacty daughter.  So Cole was so overprotective that after Joanie graduated from college, close to 20 years ago, she never saw him again?  But seemingly she kept in touch with Luiza?   Why?

What kind of house and car will Ben have?  Treem's attempt to portray the future of technology is pretty lame for the most part so that will be interesting, or not.

I find it hard to believe that in a community of fishermen that no one knew the levels of the water on the night Alison died and it has taken Joanie's future binoculars to reveal this gem.

The only good part of the show was that it did advance the Joanie/Alison story a bit.  I am not much interested in anything else at this point.  I do hope Sasha is safely in Chad without Helen and Sienna has given Eddie to Priya and we need not see any of those characters again.

Ruth did at least two projects this year:  a surprise season of Luther with Idris Elba, and a mini series about her grandparents where she played her own grandmother. Maybe she really wanted time off to do these things that were near and dear to her heart and Treem couldn't make the shooting schedule work for her to do all three.

Then again, maybe she just wanted a lot more money.

Yes, Mrs. Wilson was on PBS.   Ruth is always working.  But she keeps saying "ask Treem." so I think there is a lot to the story.

That’s what I’m thinking as I start watching this ep.

WTF, why the fuck are they wasting a segment on Sierra’s POV?

What’s next, a POV for the UPS guy who delivers to Helen?

They got rid of Alison for this bullshit?

Makes me wonder what happened behind the scenes with Ruth Wilson, because this stuff they are throwing at us this year cannot possibly have been part of Treem's Five Year Plan for the show.

Dominic West looked so silly in his scene where he declared love to Helen,  I felt sorry for the actor.

  16. Did all the writers quit last year ?  Noah’s POV was ludicrous.   Helen BUTLER is treating him like an errand boy.   Trevor is an entitled,  rude, snobby brat, and Noah himself tries to execute a ridiculous prank conceived by Margaret.  I think Margaret has become senile.  I love Kathleen Chalfant but I think she doesn’t know how to say her lines anymore because they don’t make sense.  Helen is proud of all these kids and thinks Whitney is very successful because she can name three currently famous artists whose work would fit on any wall.

Then we get to the brilliant Whitney slaving away for an unknown artist while paying all the bills for her opportunistic would be green card holder.  Oh, just like mommy did at the bagel store while Daddy Noah wrote his novel.  Mommy just never happened to mention it in 20 years.  Helens father wouldn’t fund them?  Is this all a dream?

I never thought Furcat would appear on my screen again.  He did and it was too soon.

At least the writers brought in one realistic element.  Helen needs money.

    They really hate Noah.

    So Cole just recently died.

Honestly, I'm really into Joanie's story and I want to see more. I want to see more of what the future (or the writers future) looks like. What happened to Cole? And Luisa? Did she stay close to Luisa after her and Cole split up? Did she remain close with the rest of the Lockharts? Will she run into Oscar while she's in Montauk? I'm curious. It's probably because she is a new character and I'm pretty over Noah and Helen at this point.

I know this was Janelle's POV but why the heck is Noah introducing his kids to his girlfriend for the very first time at their stepfather's funeral?? They couldn't have met her at any other time?

I'm curious if she knows Noah was her "father" for a certain period of her life.  I'm sure Joanie and Noah will meet.  (Course we will have to waste time on the Sierra/baby plot and the Whitney wedding plot first I imagine).

From the first moment he was at the table with Noah, I have had trouble figuring out what age the character is supposed to be, but I have concluded that he is supposed to be 'old' because he is playing Noah in the film and he is interested in Helen.  Also, he looked like he had a giant saggy diaper between his legs when he was wearing those absurd pants at his house when Helen came over.  And please do not tell me that the writers thought it would be sexy for that actor to take his overshirt off during their basketball game and reveal his manly undershirt!

When I first saw him at the table, I thought he was the producer who had purchased the rights to Descent.  I never thought he was this famous action hero actor.   Subsequent scenes have only confirmed my first impression.   If I were Dominic West, who for all the faults of the Noah character, is a very handsome man, I'd be very insulted.  I'm not even mentioning the fact that he has no charm or spark or charisma.

  20. I wonder if Joanie ever reconnected with Noah.  He did think he was her father for some time.   Did Cole ever talk about this?

And I wonder if Trevor will show up this year.  He and Noah had developed quite a bond.   Noah used his connections (implausibly) to get Trevor into Princeton.

Although Noah is a jerk, he did go to jail for Helen.  Helen seemed to have forgotten that in her long diatribe against Noah.  That was a choice Noah made, Helen.

I don’t want Treem to get so enmeshed in climate change discussions, etc, that she forgets 4 seasons of plot and character and POV’s on which I’d like more resolution.

  21. Part two, Helen , was implausible to me.   What did Helen do that so impressed this big star, suggested that both characters be tougher?  I find the actor playing the star badly miscast.  He doesn’t project “big actor” at all.

Im anxious for the part three plot (joanie) to move forward, and quickly.

  22. Only watched part one, Janelle.   Does someone remember last year's story?  I thought Anton's father was a rather militant type who fought the system and wanted Anton to go to a state school to escape Princeton's patriarchy.   Was that a different guy from this lawyer who seems to know how to beat the system?  Is he not Anton's father?

The acting was superb but I think some of the situations were very heavy handed, like asking Janelle to check the valet situation and Noah's daughter making the inappropriate comment to Janelle.

I was also saying to myself all through the scene, why the hell isn't she looking for another and better job; the idea that she didn't seem to want to fight this ludicrous contract until ex mentioned it to her seemed implausible to me.  The guy who got the co-principalship was a caricature.
