  1. I've NEVER heard any other pro slam their former partners the way Maks has this season.  Talking about how he had to force himself to go to work, could barely tolerate being around them, had to drag them around the dance floor, etc.  So I have to say that Maks is worse about this than the other pros.  His ridiculous hyperbole about Meryl is off-putting to me.

Early in this season, I was hoping that Maks would win the trophy.  Not for Maks's sake, but for his fans.  They want it so badly, and feel so victimized that he's not yet won, that I kinda wanted it for them. My Mom is a Maks fan, so that helps -- I want to see her be happy.

But, with the awful comments Maks has made about his former partners, and the not-so-pleasant way he treated Danica, I'm once again not on board with a Maks victory.  If he and Meryl win the trophy, it will be without my votes.

And he could have easily praised Meryl without all the shots at his former partners. That's what annoys me the most.

Even after he was called out on it he continued to do it. I think he just doesn't care. His former partners do nothing for him. None of them are pimping for votes for him or showing him any support this season. None of them pimp or support his stuff outside DWTS. They do nothing for him so he doesn't need them and doesn't care if he insults them. He has nothing to do with most of them besides Erin and Kirstie anyway..And since I'll be shocked if he's back after this season, he won't need them in the future so he just doesn't care anymore. Whatever it takes to win that trophy this season.

  2. The tiger analogy in that Maks interview totally got me. I guess he likes thinking of himself as more of a tiger than a teddy bear. I would totally watch 20 weeks of these two dancing together.

It might have gotten to me too if it were actually true. We've seen other partners "put their hand on his shoulder" and support him/calm him down/whatever he was implying many times before. The first one that comes to mind was when he melted down and Brandy had to choreograph their AT. And that was a partner who didn't even like him much.

I realize that Maks has given some people reason to be cynical about him on the show, but I think every word of what he said about Meryl in this interview was true.

I don't doubt it was true. Same as it was true every other time he's said these things.

I'm w u Toonce--IMO, M, in the running for world's most egotistical prick, would do and say just about anything to come out on top of one silly dancing show this season.

I think it's sad. I actually would've liked to see Maks finally win one, but not under these circumstances. The fact he feels he needs to play these games with a partner who's the biggest ringer the show has ever seen just blows my mind. Not to mention the fact that the season has turned out to be all about him, not even about Meryl. How many times have we seen the "real Maks" now? LOL

  3. I wonder if the ratings drop was a combination of ALM, the 24 premiere and the feeling the winner this season has already been determined. I know a lot of my friends have already given this season up because they think Meryl and Maks have it in the bag and they got tired of seeing them overpimped and overscored.

  4. Haven't seen this mentioned at all, so wondering if I just imagined it but when I went back to see what happened in the backstage interview thing with Maks and his comment about Abby, did anyone else hear Erin call Maks "Maksie" after he said he didn't care about anything Abby had to say? I swear I heard that and I thought the way she said it was with the affection of someone who knows him on a personal level (obviously) and could tell he was going in his pissed off/angry place.

Yes, I heard it too. You can also see her reach around behind Meryl and rub his back after they got their scores.

  5. And Maks, stop with the constant twirling of Meryl.  Yes, we get it.  She is a little top that can spin and spin and spin and spin like no spinner has ever spun before; she can spin on her own, she can spin in underhand turns, and she can spin while in hole.  We get it; stop adding spins in EVERY single dance.  It is dull, repetitive, boring, and lacks imagination.  I know that you’ve all been but assured a win and that you have a professional dancer as your partner, still put a LITTLE effort in your work.

THIS! A thousand times this. I've been saying this since week 2. We get she can spin. She spins for a living. Teach her something new, Maks.

  6. I don't like how a lot of Maks' behavior always gets blamed on either editing or producer manipulation or a set up. Maks is not a child, more than that, he has been doing this show for a long time now. He must know what it's about and how it works. If he keeps getting himself in these "traps" then maybe it's not the producer or editors' fault and all his.

And it was Erin who asked him the question -- quite awkwardly, as if she nearly forgot the script and had to pull the microphone back after she remembered she forgot to say "constructive criticism." If there's anyone who wouldn't play along with helping to make Maks look bad, it's Erin. I think that whole exchange was orchestrated by Maks with an assist from Erin.

  7. The primary dance was epic and amazing but getting it called "not a Rumba," at this stage is bad.

It was called "not a Rumba" because it wasn't a Rumba. And that's totally on Maks. I know he got away with it with the Foxtrot, but he had to know he'd get called out eventually on not choreographing the proper dance, especially after what happened to Charlie with his Rumba. Even Derek got called out with Nicole for not choreographing a proper Quickstep.

  8. The whole thing was just surreal. I always thought one of the jobs of a mod was to try to keep the peace so to speak rather than try to incite a fight.

They'll be the first ones to tell you they're not moderators, it's their site and if you don't like the way they run it, don't go there.

  9. One of the hosts in particular over there does not take kindly to anything that even remotely doesn't put Derek and his partners up on a pedestal. That's why I go there to read their scoops but have refrained from becoming a poster.

  10. I've seen plenty of interactions between Maks and stars who were on the show long before Val joined the cast, YMMV. For me, Maks' time on the show doesn't revolve around Season 10 or Erin.

I'm sorry, did I say it did? I said that aside from Erin and Kirstie, he doesn't seem to interact much with any of his former partners and that the last celebrity he seemed to befriend was Kurt Warner. Again, I'm not talking about the occasional "hey how ya doing good luck" tweet. I'm talking about making and keeping actual friendships the way you see other pros do, Cheryl in particular.

He used to spend every Thanksgiving with Mel B, maybe still does, I don't know.

Based on his tweets and Instagram pictures, he hasn't spent Thanksgiving with Mel for at least the past few years.

  11. I think that's inaccurate. Maks is close with a lot of the pros, that usually gives him an in with a lot of celebrities. Some post-Kurt examples of his pals would be Chelsea, Hines, Carson Kresly, Chyna Philips, Donald Driver (who has tweeted support for Maks even after Maks and Peta split), Maria Menunous to name only a few. Then there's All Stars where Joey, Sabrina, Kelly were all his buddies before that season. He befriended Gilles during the season. That's just a partial list. There are probably more that he gets along with even if even if he doesn't follow them on twitter or isn't seen publicly goofing off with. He currently doesn't follow Charlie on twitter even though they seem to get along really well. It's odd to assume he's not friends with these people based on twitter follows or mentions that one person sees. It's hard to say something isn't out there just because one person didn't see it.

I'm not talking about an outing or dinner during a season or an occasional good luck tweet. Val and particularly Cheryl interact with celebrities other than their own partners during the season, and continue to interact with former contestants long after they're done with the show. Maks rarely does. Then again, other than Erin and Kirstie, he barely seems to have anything to do with his own partners once their seasons are over.

  12. Maks has been "tamed" before, I think, with Erin as mentioned above but also in a non-romantic way he's been "matched in passion" on the dance floor by Laila and Mel B; he's been nurturing and attentive with Brandi and Kirstie (also flirty with Kirstie). The storyline with Meryl is either a greatest hits smorgasbord or something more meaningful...it remains to be seen.

I think that's exactly what Maks meant when he said that "all things combined" Meryl was his best partner ever. He likes her, they get along, they have fun together and she's a professional dancer so he can choreograph at a much higher level that he's used to and give her things to do where he doesn't have to worry about whether she can pull them off or it will all come together by show time.

In Charlie's package Meryl mentioned that for the first few days, she's Maks' student but then when it comes time to perform, she's his partner. The way it was presented, it was kind of an awkward throwaway comment, but I think it's, in a nutshell, what makes the M&M pairing so compellingly entertaining to watch.

That comment actually struck me as the "professional" version of the whole thing he and Erin used to do about "Well, today we're married and tomorrow we're divorced and the next day we make up, blah blah blah." LOL

One thing with Maks - he tends, more than any other pro, to get fully immersed in his partner every season. Rarely do you see him befriend any of the other celebrities or even offer public praise or compliments for anyone, follow them on Twitter, etc. The last time I remember him actually befriending another celebrity was Kurt Warner, who happened to be a friend of Erin's. Cheryl and Val in particular seem to make a lot of friends each season and Cheryl, more than anyone, seems to retain those friendships.

  13. Don't even get me started on that particular number crunching board. All those like must be coming from the 5 crazed Maks fans who have nothing to do but power vote or watch his videos on FB. Or maybe its the producers themselves liking those videos as part of their grand plan fix for handing Maks a mirrorball this season, right? ;)

That's one reason I put little to no stock in online polls, etc. Certain fan bases power voting can definitely sway the results and the crazy part of Maks's fan base does not hide the fact they spend every waking moment voting over and over and over, All you had to do was look at his Twitter feed this weekend with that silly People poll about the hottest brothers. LOL

  14. It's kind of unfortunate that Amy or Danica might be practicing injured when they are already out of the competition, they just don't know it. They would be practicing in pain for nothing.

I would hope, considering their injuries, TPTB would let them know if they were being eliminated so they didn't have to put themselves at further risk and could just bow out due to the injuries.

  15. I find a lot of the packages with Maks and Meryl very forced as if they have a role to play and lines to recite and the cameras just "happen" to be there to catch all the heartfelt conversations.

I feel the same. I actually laughed out loud at that package before their Tango because it was so poorly acted .Neither should quit their day jobs to get into acting (are you listening Maks?).

  16. Yes but none of these things I mentioned happened during the rehearsal and was edited by the show. Maks' comment was during a post-show interview and I think Louis' comment (I'm pretty certain it was Louis) was also in an interview done while the season was airing. Also while editing can certainly manipulate things to the story it wants to tell, it doesn't put words in people's mouths. Editing doesn't make Maks repeat those same lines about so many of his female celebrities or be all kissy, gushy, handsy with so many of them.

It was Louis. Erin even talked about his comments in some interview she did. Tony and Cheryl also made comments about it during the season. There was also another interview (I can't remember if it was with Chelsea Handler or Ellen) where they asked Maks flat out if Erin was making him a better, happier person like everyone was saying.

I would have to go back and watch the interviews again to remember everything that made me roll my eyes and think "Repeat!", but the comment Monday night that stood out to me was Maks talking about how everyone loves Meryl. Same stuff he spouted about Erin.

    Oooh, how did it end?

The way I've heard the story is they had some huge blowup after the ESPY Awards that summer. By the time they made up, Maks had signed up to be the Ukrainian Bachelor but didn't tell her about it until the last minute. There was a period when they unfollowed each other on Twitter and had nothing to do with each other, but they seemed to make up and finally become friends again when Erin showed up at his birthday party.

And I never said they shouldn't. I'm not going to wherever their shippers hang out and making comments discrediting it or calling it a showmance. As I said, I saw the gif while scrolling the DWTS tag on tumblr and I laughed but I didn't comment and simply kept scrolling. But this is a discussion board and varying opinions are allowed. Just as some are allowed to gush and talk about said chemistry and ship it or whatever else, I think I am more than entitled to say, "I don't see the great chemistry and in fact, I'm turned off by it because after seeing Maks pull pretty much exactly this same shit multiple times with multiple celebrities, it's gotten to the point where it just seems fake and pretty much a showmance." That is my opinion and I'm not asking anyone to agree or disagree with it.

For me it's the fact that if Maks is going to win, I want to see him win on the talent and ability of his partner, not because he's played up some showmance to get a bunch of shippers riled up enough to vote. And the fact he's done it so many times already, it's starting to feel like he doesn't think he can win on merit. Mel was married so I'm not going to include her, but going back to Erin, all Maks's partners have been single. And he's played every angle from the "real thing" with Erin to actively encouraging the shipping (I still have nightmares about all those in-dance kisses with Kirstie) to subtle little insinuations that get people talking to doing nothing but not setting the record straight. At this point I'm half expecting him to announce a relationship with Meryl, not because there is one but simply because it's the only thing left he hasn't pulled in one of his showmances.

  17. I was browsing the DWTS tag on tumblr and first thing that pops up is gifs of one of their post-show interviews this week, with the quote of Maks saying something about he's having more fun or happier than he's ever been on the show or something like that and how he doesn't discuss the personal. This was in response to a question flat out asking the nature of his and Meryl's relationship. The person who made the post had a comment below basically swooning of course and using it as evidence against the haters who call it a showmance. All I can do was laugh.

Finally made it over here. Hi everyone!

I think Maks has done the showmance thing so many times that he's starting to run out of material. In the interviews last night, I heard him recycle a few lines he used with both Erin and Kirstie.

Someone above mentioned the awkwardness of Erin's "I'm engaged" outburst. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed it because as much as she now seems to be trying to act like she and Maks were just partners, there are too many pros still around who were around back then and know exactly what went on between them and the ugly way it ended. And I think that contributes to some of the awkwardness in her interviews. That and I think she still has a bit of a thing for Maks herself, boyfriend or not. But regardless of that I think she's still a huge improvement over Brooke.
