I'd like to think things are better today after #MeToo, but they're probably just less overt, alas.

    NDAs

And, yes no one is immune from being harassed. I meant in terms of the need to book gigs being less urgent for nepo babies and Russian royalty.

And some of these people are truly dangerous re: why people stay quiet.

Because FV did not want to admit defeat after hiring not one but two of another network's stars, and because he doesn't like changing his canvas or ceding to fan pressure.

Recalling now an interview I read during the ‘90s heyday of the Brenda/Sonny/Jax triangle. GH producer or writer, cannot recall which, said you try to please most of the fans, but you cannot please them all, referencing the decision to put Brenda with Sonny at that point. I was a Jax fan then so I fell in the all part.

Frank’s a stubborn man, that is for sure. I also think some of what he does is for practical reasons. Where’s Easton going to go willingly? Or Duell? Changing up the canvas is risky because as we have seen with many over the years those with other prospects very often head for the exit… You can’t build around people who will bounce or be gone for significant amounts of time. Not criticizing the actors who do it by way as it’s their careers and ambitions, but it does give the show problems. It just is what it is.

What I think Frank should do is find more Harringtons, who I do like as Jagger ;-) for roles like Michael. Actors of a certain age with prime time abilities who didn’t get lucky or lucky enough in the gotta get it years.

I feel like GH is really taking it on the chin these days with their alumna dying.

    They really are.

If the DM can be believed here as they alternate between an utterly tasteless rag and a publicist’s cutting garden, Robyn was a paranoid schizophrenic. Underlying severe mental health problems and addiction are a toxic combo. They would be for many regardless of occupation.

Hollywood is a rough place so I also believe she was abused there as those quoted say. Lots of bad people in powerful positions and an acting career necessitates the ability to handle chasing the next check/gig unless you are a nepo baby, Galitzine, or Emma Stone level actor (who seems like an actually cool person), abundant rejection, and breathtaking cruelty for the sake of it.

    RIP, Robyn.

Is it really such a surprise? She's always played the game.

Laura is a survivor, no doubt. She saw GL was going down and hightailed it out of there. As much as MB and SB have, she’s built a nice life in Daytime and I don’t see any regret or what might have been in her performances, I give her that… Staying is a choice. How you feel about it is on you and letting us see it in your performances is too.

Over four soaps she saw many come and go and have things not turn out the way they wanted and as the late Jeanne Cooper noted, they don’t always take you back. She’s unapologetically all about GH and it’s her world, not just Carly’s, I strongly suspect. ;-)

She may be Frank’s eternal employee of the month, but I think Laura needs to stay out of the way of progress in the same way MB and SB do.

  5. MB seems to have a lot of passion for his podcast and SB is no fool. And, honestly, if it’s just about the checks mixed with limited or no options elsewhere, then MB and SB should let the show do what it needs to for it to survive, for however long it has remaining and maybe even somehow experience a renaissance by shifting the focus.

Actors who make their livings acting are fortunate and the industry is facing a lot of challenges coming off the dual strikes, IATSE maybe striking in summer, consolidations, et cetera. Daytime may not have been the dream they had but it’s made those men nice lives. I will hope they see all the other people involved and don’t get in the way.

I would settle for more people calling Sonny out on his shit, him going down in estimation for many in town and having to take on a somewhat different role.

Me too. I also think the show needs Mo/Sonny to take on a different role however much Mo might carry on and resist it. I know Mo’s been the guy for a long time and he stayed when others wouldn’t or couldn’t.

Adam Harrington is a great get from prime time.

  7. I’m not expecting miracles, but will welcome additional improvement over what I already see peeking through…

I hated Carly in the ‘90s (the last time I was a regular viewer until now), but I could never take my eyes off of Sarah Brown. She had such talent. She had her troubles over the years and I hope she is in a good place now.

And, yes, Frank isn’t good to everybody. The situation that occurred with Vinessa Antoine (the former Jordan) is really, really unfortunate I think in light of the extended LOAs plural and flexible arrangements I have observed for male actors on the program. Alley Mills praise of Frank in her Daytime Emmy speech has stayed with me too. You do not want that man as an enemy. Of that I feel confident.

Did NGL say that?  If Patrick really is a decision maker that will go along away with me.  We could see real change in that case.

NLG did. In a very recent interview with SOD. Also said positive things are happening.

We don't get those kinds of stories anymore.  We don't get prolonged scenes, deep character development, or slowly-building relationships.  Those are the kindling that's missing, and without them, it's hard to build a fire.

Without that, what sex we see is just simulated sex, i.e. Jex. The couples I remember from my youth made me feel as if I was intruding because of the level of intimacy that informed the scenes. The Sprina N.Y. scenes the scabs wrote were a lovely callback, I thought.

We all know Easton and Setton are both friends of Frank dating back to at least OLTL, and the one thing I really do appreciate about Frank is that he tries to take care of people that he cares for in a very unkind industry. However, I think something needs to give especially as the show is reset and will if Patrick Mulcahey is a decision maker like NLG said he is. It will be interesting to watch from out here. While BTS stuff can be entertaining, I often lack the stomach for just what we find out about…

  10. TJ and Molly looked absolutely awful to me. Treat your S/SIL surrogate with the rapidly progressing pregnancy (14 weeks?!) with respect. If she wants to know the sex, she can, you don’t have to… That said, Kristina should not have offered nor been chosen for this with no prior births. Alexis called it as the mess it will be. Will Kristina be allowed to hold the baby when she delivers? Honestly.

Anything we see now is mostly from fired people who knew they were fired. The Trina/Curtis scene seemed touched up to me too and even Carly/Joss seemed better, but I imagine PM picked his battles about what he could and couldn’t touch up in the waning days with the necessary economizing in Daytime.

Maura has chemistry with a doorknob and elevates her scene partners, but I hope any dalliance whatsoever with her crypt sex baby daddy is temporary at most. I cannot imagine PM not using her. She’s committed, looks phenomenal, and is an outstanding actress.

I am unfamiliar.  I was really annoyed last month when one of the soap blogger alluded to such on Twitter, without ONE hint of what they may be.  Which I think is dirty pool.  Because the mind, it does wander.  I am not asking, because unless it is something to do with bothering women, I honestly don't care.  Just get him back.

It is. I work in communications and I am a big believer in play it straight and be fair to people. The blogger put it out there that RA has issues and allowed minds to wander about what those might be and whatever they were, they may be well behind him and not our business either unless they threaten the welfare of others. It is better for story if Taggert's on the canvas so I hope RA can be sometime soon, but I also know that sometimes doors are just closed to people regardless and the audience is out of luck.

That's a pretty standard message for an actor trying to get back on the show.

Certainly, but we don’t, or at least I don’t, know why he isn’t there now. I tend to leave it alone when I don’t.

And I just tend to think the truth can be a lot more nuanced, especially with someone who IIRC was at the show before Carly existed. So I am going to give her a chance to show me who she is as a writer as opposed to being the third name on the writers' roll who I often feel the fans have simply projected a lot onto.

As a head writer, no less... It will be EK and PM directing the writers room and reporting into Frank.

I am eager to see what the team that is there does under new management. Writers always have editors. I know I do. ;-)

  14. For me, Tyler will always be Nik. I wish the show chose differently, ie restoring the character and with a suitable recast (fine actors in the age range would welcome the work I imagine) or retiring Nik altogether. I muted Huss on X because I find some of his postings simply off putting. I do understand he wants to be there and is obvious about it which is not the case for some and it’s noticeable. Work for better or make your life better by moving on. Working actors are the lucky ones.

I do still hope Ace as a Cassadine is erased by PM’s pen or at the very least his name changed.

Other people don't always know how to delineate the difference in what they say online and I'll leave it at that. As for the actors I don't think Chavez has done anything wrong, and I think a lot of people get caught up in fan stuff that doesn't interest me.

True and True. And, thank you for your insight, @jsbt

The advice was to get the hell out of there, and if it doesn't work out, to trust him that they will always take him back.  It worked out.  But he was grateful for that advice.  And the actor giving the advice even told him he wished someone had advised him the same when he was younger and that it was too late for him now.  So...

Maybe Nathan Fillion? And I hear you.

If people are fuming Wednesday, a recast may not be necessary? And the door back may be locked and the walkway burned? We’ll see. NAC what with the People cover and all had a unique daytime experience that I hope he is classy about moving forward.

I also hope NAC moves on from Murphy in good time and is successful.

  17. I saw some soap podcaster X chattering about furious fans on Wednesday... Online rumors can be cloud cuckoo land, even cogently stated ones. Again, this is a person on a chat board Friday, but I can’t say I don’t agree with sentiments expressed in the second post and I’m not feeling that TVLine article now either if this is what’s what. Wednesday will be interesting to say the least. jsbt, you may have called it… We’ll see.

“However, his last day at the studio, recently, he made the rounds, spoke to everyone, said his farewells. My information - which is completely different from the official statements - is that Frank has done a masterful job with pretaping. He's gone. Period. But supposedly we won't even be able to tell that he's not there. Given the job they did last year with Laura & Kevin & Yuri in Russia, I can imagine this is one of Frank's magic tricks.”

“It is my opinion that young actors should stay with their soaps longer than they sometimes do & also I feel that they don't have an appreciation of just how good they've got it & they may be in for a rude awakening. NAC may never again have the kind of attention that he's gotten between the fanatical Sprina fandom & the mainstream media attention, etc. And, I don't mean to be unfairly picking on NAC either.”

On to Wednesday… Good Luck, NAC.

  18. I so wish TMZ didn’t get that… My late mother died of renal failure/cirrhosis so I know what a battle it is. With underlying mental health issues and the toll that business takes on sober and stable people, just tragic all the way around. Prayers for and peace to Tyler’s children.

I will say it again, GH should retire the character of Nikolas.
