Could just be that Anya's dish was so unique last week that I was swayed by that, I'll go rewatch it, in either case...if her team won that challenge, she most likely would have gotten immunity. That's the only thing I really regret about Anya's situation in this episode, because there's no way she wouldn't go home on her disastrous dish without her having immunity, despite her being such a frontrunner for the first 2 episodes.

Yeah, it's just even more glaring that someone who has a free roll for immunity for next episode, and is safe no matter what like Zubair to not even try making big swings, and show some ambition/risk taking in order to try winning immunity for next episode, even if he's bad at making his own muffins. At least in Massimo's case, he is in danger of going home if he fucks up, not in Zubair's case. Doesn't hurt Zubair if he does try to bake his own muffins no matter how hard he fucks up, but he doesn't even try. An ingredient must be REALLY bad for that to happen.

LMAO, it's a good thing Zubair had immunity, because it felt like he didn't even try in this challenge. An ingredient like muffins is so bad that he just said fuck it, despite him basically having a free roll at immunity for the next challenge. Muffins were so bad that Zubair didn't even try taking big swings and winning this challenge for immunity.

Yeah, Anya was just like Rasika from last season, an early frontrunner who suddenly tanked out of nowhere.

Now I'm more sad than anything else that Anya's team didn't win last episode, because if her team DID win...she would have most likely won immunity and been safe for this week. Honestly sounded like Anya's dish was the judge's favorite dish in the entire challenge last episode. I could take another week of Bailey if it meant that Anya would last this week. Anya did deserve to go this episode, because that dish was a disaster, but I really hope she crushes it in LCK, and comes back to the competition.

I pegged Vinny, Shuai, and Anya as the emergent front runners back at the episode 1 thread of this season. Glad to see that my prediction is actually pretty much true right now, all 3 of them are really killing it.

Not surprised at all, just disappointed that they did it again, instead of throwing them in the main competition for whatever reason.
-
Yeah, I seem to like them, but why not just throw them into the main competition? A season taking place in Canada could really use a couple more canadian chefs in the main competition anyway.

Yeah, I liked the western box the best as well, I adore Lamb, Salmon, and Mushrooms. Lamb has even more flavor than beef, and I love the gaminess of lamb. There were no bad boxes/duds, and all have amazing ingredients that anyone could do a lot with though.

Top soup? Almost everyone made soup in the quickfire. That's my best guess, but even then...since soup is literally just food submerged in liquid, the category is so broad that it's not going to be anywhere near as bad as pasta in S15, or crudo in S13.

Double post, sorry

Yeah, IIRC, contestants aren't allowed to look up recipes on the internet for obvious reasons, so if they aren't allowed to do that, the producers sure as hell wouldn't be motivated or be allowed to actually outright give contestants recipes. I find it hilarious that she referenced training under someone who undercooked rice when she tried to make risotto in her own season, but there's zero sign of producer interference here. Guess we'll find out if Bailey training under Sarah would translate to her being a bully like Sarah as well, there are already bad signs with her treatment of Anya. She's currently the only person I dislike in a season full of cast members i like to watch, but not giving up on her just yet. She interestingly enough worked for Beverly as well.

I love how Bailey said that she was going to do well with risotto, because she trained under Sarah G. from season 9. Completely ignoring how much of an unlikable bitch Sarah was back in season 9 for a second, when Sarah tried to make risotto in her own season...she got dinged for undercooked rice. I don't think Sarah's the best person to reference when you want to inspire people with confidence on you finally being the one who makes a great risotto on top chef. As for the season itself, great start I like the episode, both of the challenges were well designed. Season 22 at the start at least feels far better than the previous season, feels like we got a far more talented group of chefs than back in Wisconson, and there's better editing this time around. I could already see a few frontrunners in Vincenzo, Anya, and Shuai. It's a good sign when most of the issues were plating/time management issues. Very few are outright bad dishes themselves. Out of curiosity, if you were to compete in the elimination challenge, which one of the 5 boxes would you want to get, and feel the most comfortable with making a good dish out of?
