S37.E03: Chaotic, Crazy, That’s What We’re Used To
Valmafra replied to chitowngirl's topic in The Amazing Race
Seconding all of the above, and would also like to praise the challenges from this Japanese-double for their cultural relevance as opposed to rehashing the tiresome gameshow tropes from previous/inferior visits to the nation. In other words, S37 has faithfully followed in Unfinished Business's footsteps from almost a decade-and-a-half ago when it featured samurai archery and Shinto ritual: -
Fun fact: they're the successors to the original shrine-maidens who welcomed Unfinished Business's Final Ten at the site of Commodore Perry's landing (in the mid-nineteenth century)!
-
He misspoke given production's failure to proofread their own script - in other words, they mistakenly added an extra zero: C.E./A.D. 825 is the early Heian* period when next week's destination Kyoto achieved its cultural ascendance; however, taikos date even further back to the Kofun (keyhole-shaped tomb mound) era between C.E./A.D. 250-600 as seen in the leftmost figurine/haniwa below: * With an urban grid plan modelled after Xi'an in China, whose renowned Terracotta Warriors were visited in Season 6's penultimate leg.
-
This leg was superior to S20E11's gameshow overload, if not S12E09's original Osaka visit.

^ Correct, it sounded nothing like "obrigado". -
It's because the last one was 21 seasons ago i.e. a full decade-and-a-half has passed since S16, when Miss Teen South Carolina Caite Upton (a.k.a. the Iraq and everywhere like such as) got Intersected with Big Brother 11 winner Jordan Lloyd for a bungee-jump Roadblock in Hamburg.

^ Like I already said up above: the second season of the Canadian edition, where teams received Mahayana blessings from local monks before climbing the 268 steps to reach their next cluebox atop Lantau Island besides the Tian Tan statue of Siddhartha Gautama -

^ How come, if the past season aired over a decade-and-a-half ago? -

The show can't afford it now: compare the unused Fast Forward from the original visit to Hong Kong a.k.a. Oswald/Danny at Starbucks plus the second season of the Canadian edition, where teams received Mahayana blessings from local monks before climbing the 268 steps to reach their next cluebox atop Lantau Island besides the Tian Tan statue of Siddhartha Gautama. Both, yet those are exceptions to the rule:
