Comments DW has made published in December pre-announcement about possibly including other cast members in a spin-off: In US Weekly: "I haven't closed the door on the character or on somehow if there is something for Danny, somehow incorporating some of the Reagans into that too and some of the other characters from Blue Bloods." In EW "alternate ending" scenario: "I would say I would have Danny Reagan walk right into his next chapter of his life, maybe in a different place doing a similar job and perhaps with someone from the current cast. But I want him to not be too far from the family so that he could still see them and spend time with them, but maybe to see what life has in store for him now that his boys have gone off and he's empty nesting and his wife's gone. Maybe he can see what the future holds for him on his own. As long as he can visit the family sometimes. Does that sound like a tease for a spinoff?" In Parade: "So, sure I love the show, and I love the character and I'd be open to a spinoff, but it would take a lot of thought, a lot of mindfulness and have a way to have Reagans visit sometimes.”

Deadline updated their article after the fact with the following little detail: The original pitch was called "Jamaica Plain" after the Boston neighborhood and this timeline detail: "By early December, Jamaica Plain, named after a Boston neighborhood, was heating up for a pickup with Wahlberg in talks to join." https://deadline.com/2025/02/blue-bloods-series-boston-blue-donnie-wahlberg-danny-reagan-1236293667/

I think there have been enough comments by Donnie Wahlberg and in a more limited way from some of the CBS executives to suggest there have been initial substantive discussions about a possible spin-off probably primarily focused on his character, possibly along with Baez, and occasional appearances by other Reagans (if there is no shock revival), probably along the lines of the "alternate ending" scenario he suggested in Entertainment Weekly.

I think "secretly" the cast hasn't totally given up either. https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/blue-bloods-tom-selleck-donnie-wahlberg-canceled-1236234226/ "“It feels like, I read a movie script, I’m negotiating to do a deal for the movie, and I’m walking to my agent’s office, and I keep looking back over my shoulder, hoping someone from ‘Blue Bloods’ is chasing me down the street saying, ‘Wait, we’re going to do one more season,’” he says. “A lot of times in television, 14 years in, people are running for the exit. We’re all trying to move forward now onto what’s next, but I think every one of us has that feeling of just turning back, hoping someone’s there to say, ‘Don’t sign that contract. Wait a minute!’”... Plus, would a spinoff really work, focusing on one or two characters and not the entire family — the heart of what “Blue Bloods” is about? “It’s going to be a very delicate dance to keep that integrity. Where’s the family going to be? They can’t be in New York. I would probably drive to New York from Ohio, if I was Danny, to go to every dinner and back,” Wahlberg says of his character. “Until we know that there’s absolutely no way this show can be resurrected somehow, I think we’re all walking forward… but taking a peek back.”"

Popular Fan Theory Suggests the Death of Beloved ‘Blue Bloods’ Character in Season 14 One popular fan theory suggests that one of the characters might get the ax at the end of season 14. Many are speculating that Luis Badillo, played by Ian Quinlan, might possibly die in the line of duty. He first joined the show in season 12 and currently serves as Eddie Janko’s partner. His potential death would be equally heartbreaking and shocking for all. On October 10, Entertainment Weekly released a full trailer teasing what’s to come in the final episodes of Blue Bloods season 14. At the 48-second mark in the trailer, it appears Badillo is lying flat on the ground with his gun at his side as someone rushes up to him to make sure he is OK, which looks to be Eddie.

They actually haven't made that many comments at all other than talking about "refreshing the schedule" but really just replacing it with SWAT/NCIS Sydney which is hardly refreshing it and will most likely lead to worse ratings in that time period. And then there have been the comments about the spin-off which have also been vague and contradictory, like saying we have a "whole season" to figure that out but it's really just a couple of months given that Season 14 has already been filmed and any decision about anything being filmed next year would really have to be made now. Not to mention that a spin-off would benefit from promotion opportunities around the original series or at least an announcement by the time the finale airs.

" Abigail Hawk: "I mean, yes the set is gone, but with the professionals we have in our industry it would take two seconds to rebuild a set like that if it came to that." She added: "So there's still a little teeny bit of a silver needle somewhere in the hope haystack and I'll hang on to it." After concluding production this summer, the sets used on Blue Bloods have now been completely demolished, seemingly ending the Reagans' journey. However, defiant remarks from Selleck and the show's fans earlier this year indicate there is still a strong demand for more seasons, despite CBS executives officially pulling the plug. Hawk passionately remarked, "I think the resolve is there. We know that it's done, but, like Tom Selleck's memoir, his memoir's titled You Never Know. And I think that hope can move mountains." She also feels a sense of loss regarding the show's current status: "There's a void left by our show. And I think that, in time, the higher-ups will come to regret it." Emphasising the dedication of the ensemble cast, which includes notables like Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, and Will Estes, Hawk is certain about their eagerness to return: "I would say that every single one of us as far as the cast is concerned, we are all ready and willing and able to work, to continue." https://www.express.co.uk/showbiz/tv-radio/1966677/blue-bloods-abigail-hawk-season-15-hopes-cbs-cancel

More from Abigail Hawk: "When discussing the possibility of the show as fans know it continuing on for a 15th season, she added: "If you had asked me this question during the summer, before these episodes were about to air, my answer would have been, 'there's a pinprick of hope'. "Now I think once these episodes start airing, CBS executives may realize that they have made a colossal error and perhaps rethink down the line so I think it remains possible." "I don't think there's a possibility of it going to another network – I know that there's been a bit of chatter about that, but I don't think that that's a viable option given the talks that we've had with the cast and the producers and things like that," she continued. "But hope floats, and I think it's necessary to have something to hang on to and we would all certainly drop everything and make that happen. At the end of the day, CBS can do whatever they want, but I hope they realize not only how commercially viable Blue Bloods is, but how beloved it is, and the staying power that it has, because family is universal and there are more stories to be told." https://www.hellomagazine.com/film/725946/blue-bloods-spin-off-teased-final-season-premiere-exclusive/

Interview with Abigail Hawk. Key portion:"I agree with you I think that there’s always hope I think that once these episodes start airing these final eight start airing CBS may go you know even though like the set’s gone the props are gone but like that those things can be rebuilt and if you have the entire cast and crew totally ready and willing to continue I think I think it’s possible that the conversation may happen I’m not saying it’s probable but I think it’s possible.”

Yes, although Deadline suggested earlier that a Danny Reagan related spin-off had not "materialized," which is why this comment is newsworthy. Hopefully there will be more media coverage and questions once promotion of the upcoming episodes gets underway. The timeline suggested by the Deadline article is also confusing. On the one hand he says development wouldn't happen "soon" because they "have a whole season to go," but like, that season has been filmed already (at least the 8 episodes that are planned) and the scheduled end isn't that far away, and at some point they would need to start nailing down schedules for actors to be involved. And will they give clarity on what's coming next by the time the final episode airs? And while it's not clear if a spin-off would even be on CBS or Paramount Plus, they would be losing a promotional opportunity to promote whatever's next if it's not in the timeslot anymore. Even the lack of promotion for the episodes set to air this fall is already confounding, especially since it looks like there won't be any reruns on CBS right before the new episodes. (it looks like they are showing Fire Country reruns.... listings subject to change)

A YouTube version of the wrap video linked above in case people couldn't open it before: Key lines as far I can tell: "Four years ago we were in this room and none of us knew if we would ever see each other again for a lot worse reasons. It was maybe one of the worst days of my life ... Somehow, some of [you] got another few years together and God willing we'll get some more time together and do something magical again...I pray that that can happen in one way or another, I won't give up trying." In a message to NKOTB fans recorded on last day of filming, he also said it was the last day "at least for now.....You never know what will happen" https://www.instagram.com/p/C8c3ld8Rh_C/
