  1. Thank you! Every time the show went to commercial, I was like "What??? Already? No wonder the episode seemed so short. She's definitely on the spectrum, but I'm wondering if she hasn't been officially diagnosed. When Dr. King talked about having a sister who is autistic, my interpretation was that the sister is affected enough to limit her ability to cope in life. Sometimes, when one sibling has an obvious personality disorder, the "less" affected sibling tends not to be diagnosed or diagnosed much later in their life. (Personal experience talking here.) It appears that Dr. King knows what her triggers are and has been able to successfully learn how to work around them. I wanted to smack Dr. Langdon when he came back into the room with the ping pong player & propped the door open. It was really nice to see him offer Dr. King his respect and admit that he learned something.
  2. Rabies is very, very rare in Britain (much like Australia & New Zealand) because it's an island and because of very strict quarantine laws. The last human case that was caught in the UK was in 1902. Any cases since then have been in people who have come into contact with it in other countries. It was lovely to see Jimmy without his hat on finally. He's adorable and I bet he brings such joy to the set. I really appreciate that this show is making him an integral part of the storyline whereas in most shows the children seem to disappear once they're born. England in the Spring is such a beautiful place. The gardens around the Grantley Estate were stunning. Sad to see Carmody go. Hopefully, we'll get to see him again.
  3. Skeldale House would have been dependent on coal &/or wood for heat. The main living room & kitchen (when the stove was in use) would probably have been quite comfortable, but the rest of the house not so much. If you were fortunate to have a bedroom where the chimney breast went through, you would have got a little warmth from that. My grandparents had a house that was newer than Skeldale and that was converted to natural gas for the fireplaces & cooking. I made the mistake of visiting them one Christmas and I don't think I've even been so cold in my entire life (and I live in Canada). There is a dampness to the cold that is indescribable. Taking a bath (no showers back then) and getting in and out of bed were bone chilling experiences. The only place I truly felt warm was on the sofa that was about 3 ft away from the fireplace & in the tiny kitchen when the stove was lit. Little Jimmy is still very young and I totally understand why he is bundled up all the time. I think we'll finally get to see him without his hat as soon as the weather warms up which, according to the preview for the next episode, should be soon ๐Ÿ˜„. To this day, I laugh when I visit England. For many, central heat means turning the radiator on in the room you're going to be in about 20 mins before you're going to be in it and turning it off when you leave. We've had visitors from the UK and they find our house stifling in the winter LOL. Guess it all depends on what you're used to.....
  4. I wondered how they were going to handle James leaving the RAF. (Did not think they would use the real reason.) The brucellosis was a nice tie-in. One thing that has me a bit stumped is that brucellosis is a zoonotic disease and some of those can be passed back and forth from animal to human to animal. James working on the cow so soon after his diagnosis seemed a bit dangerous to me. I've googled it, but haven't found anything definitive about brucellosis being one of those diseases. Plus, it was back in the early 1940's so not a lot may have been known then about zoonotic human to animal pathways. Baby Jimmy is absolutely adorable ๐Ÿ’—! It was lovely to see all the animals in this episode. Hopefully that bodes well for the rest of this much too short season.
  5. Jared said she felt warm so I'm guessing an infection; possibly sepsis or necrotizing fascitits because, of course, it's Claire and God forbid life should go well for her. Also, kind of wondering if we might get Claire staying in San Jose and Lim going to Guatemala to take her place. This episode leaned pretty heavily towards Lim rethinking her life and priorities.
  6. There can be signs that point to a child possibly being on the autism spectrum when they are infants. Shaun said, "It could be an early indication of autism". One of the early signs is infants reacting in unexpected ways to new faces. If all the other children cried when their parent(s) left and Steve did not, that's different. Like circumvent said, it may mean Steve is at a different level in his development than the other children. Or it may mean that he's a baby who loves new experiences and new people or, as Shawn pointed out, an early indication of possible autism. It would be foolish on both Shaun & Leah's part to not be on the lookout for indications that Steve might be on the spectrum. Familial autism is well proven and the genetic risk is definitely there. Autism has affected every facet of Shaun's life and he knows what that entails. Does he want Steve to have the same struggles he had? I doubt it very much.... Early diagnosis tends to lead to more favourable outcomes in helping autistic children have their best lives possible so watching for any indication is prudent for any parent who has a child with a known risk factor.
  7. From what I've read, other opportunities was one part of it, but the other part was Noah missing the people he loved while being away during the filming of the show in Vancouver, B.C. I wonder if he knew that this season was only going to be 10 episodes when he made his decision. Filming 10 episodes wouldn't take that long compared to a full season of 22 episodes.
  8. Filming wrapped up at the beginning of April. Here are some photos from the day. There are a few that are quite touching. https://tvline.com/news/the-good-doctor-series-finale-cast-photos-release-date-1235196835/
  9. There are so many undiagnosed girls and women to this day. It makes me sad when I read about someone who struggled their entire life trying to fit in and not understanding why they felt so different only to be diagnosed as being autistic much later in life. What could have been if they'd had the supports they needed...... I hope your daughter's journey through life is easier with her being diagnosed at a younger age. Best wishes to you both! It will be interesting to see Charlie's journey. The medical staff are used to dealing with Shawn's "quirks". Charlie's are probably going to be very different.
  10. The needing alcohol to relax trope drives me bonkers! No wonder there are so many people with issues with alcohol nowadays. Really - you can't go for a walk, read a book, meditate, do yoga, indulge in some retail therapy, etc. instead? The possibilities are endless. As far as Lea making the breastfeeding issues all about herself. I think her portrayal as a conflicted new mother was very realistic. The medical community and lactating experts and books about the subject emphasize the benefits of breastfeeding to such a degree that many women who aren't able to exclusively breastfeed feel like absolute failures as mothers. Just like some women who need caesarean sections feel like failures because they didn't have their baby "naturally". Logically, all anyone wants is a healthy, happy baby, but "mom shaming" is well and alive and it can do a huge number on new moms' psyches. I have a friend who couldn't breastfeed because of breast reduction surgery. She actually had a nurse give her grief when she said she wasn't going to breastfeed. Nurse went on a spiel about how breast was best and any mom who didn't at least try wasn't acting in her baby's best interests. When my friend could finally get a word in edgewise and explain the situation, the nurse looked a little sheepish, but left the room saying, "breast is best". That really upset my friend at a time that should have been joyful for her.
  11. Totally agree on the brain operation. To show Park doing it all while being assisted by a resident is ridiculous. There would have been multiple disciplines needed to be involved; particularly an oral maxillofacial surgeon, but hey, who knows, maybe Park is an expert at everything. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ I agree that Charlie's verbal interactions with the patient and his daughter were inappropriate, but I think there's a lot more to it than learning to control herself. She is pretty new to interacting with patients. Everything is new & different. Many autistic people don't do well in this situation. She is probably very nervous. When autistic people are nervous or upset they tend to "stim". It is a way of trying to deal with what they're feeling & to comfort themselves. We saw it when she kept grabbing her earring. It's entirely possible the verbosity is also a stim. Hopefully, like Shawn, she'll be given time to adjust and possibly, once she feels more comfortable, the stimming will lessen. Shawn is still inappropriate at times, but with the guidance of those around him, he has become much more adept at handling personal interactions; although, I was quite surprised he was so abrupt with telling lung transplant guy his diagnosis. He's been shown handling similar situations in a much better way. In a way, it was kind of funny to see Shawn irritated by Charlie's behaviour. His behaviour has irritated his colleagues many times and you would think he could recognize himself in some of Charlie's behaviour and cut her some slack. I guess the "you can't see the forest for the trees" comes into play.....
  12. Thanks for this. There are SPOILERS in this article as to who will be back for season 5. If you don't want to know, don't click ๐Ÿ˜ƒ. https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/specialfeatures/all-creatures-great-and-small-seasons-5-and-6-coming-to-masterpiece-on-pbs/#
  13. That was a lovely end to the season. As others have said, lots of humour which was nice after the seriousness of the last episode. The love between the characters was palpable and the absolute look of enchantment they all had when looking at James Jr warmed my heart. I'm very surprised Helen agreed to give up Oscar. I wouldn't have unless he truly was the other people's cat. I was hoping to see him become a Skeldale regular like Jess & Dash. I had to giggle when I saw him playing with the wool/thread that Helen was working with. Such a typical cat. I wonder if Humbug went at it right away or if they had to coax him to act his part. The look of absolute foreboding on everyone's face when they heard James was going to be flying bombers sent me researching bomber survival rates. Those are very sobering statistics and I can see why everyone looked so very worried. About 45% were killed and 15% were either wounded or became prisoners of war. One thing I've meant to mention after Christmas episodes before is the weird appearance of the outdoor shots. It's like there's some kind of a filter put on the camera that changes the colour of the sky, landscape & buildings. I find it very distracting - wish they wouldn't do it. Hard to believe it will be 10 1/2 months before we're back here again. You wait and wait for the show to come back and then it's all over in the blink of an eye. At least it's something to look forward to after Christmas & New Year.
  14. I can't find an official announcement either ๐Ÿ˜ž. The original article linked in this thread announcing the renewal is from Nov. 2023. I did see an article in the Yorkshire Post about a renewal that seems a little more credible https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/arts-and-culture/film-and-tv/hopes-raised-for-all-creatures-great-and-small-series-5-as-tv-presenter-jules-hudson-posts-awards-photo-with-nicholas-ralph-4518628 that said โ€œAlways love catching up with this lovely guy, @nicholasralph_ AKA James Herriot. And thrilled to hear thereโ€™s even more All Creatures Great and Small to come. Canโ€™t wait!โ€, but the original Instagram post has disappeared. Fortunately, with Jules hearing that the show had been renewed from the horse's mouth (so-to-speak), I think we all can be pretty confident that it has been. Because that article was from 2023, they probably meant filming was to start in 2024.
  15. Yippee!!! Thanks so much ๐Ÿ’–
