    Aquaman (2018)

    I went with my son, and we were laughing at the exact same parts.  So it's not just me.  We both enjoyed Black Panther, so the following things cracked us up:  Black Manta, advanced technology in Wakanda/Atlantis, a bunch of tribes that T'Challa/Aquaman has to unite, a ritual fight to become king, and Aquaman's suit at the end which made me give him the nickname Krillmonger and the motivation to do a "Who Wore It Better" meme.  There were other movie shoutouts, too - Ariel's hair color for Princess Mera, and the trope of a bitter, resentful brother. At one point, I actually said "Shut up, Loki!"

    Please give Jason Momoa some decent material to work with.

    S20.E08: Hells Kitchen

    Back in the day, Noah would have been offered two options for dinner: Take It or Leave It.  My mom, who was not a cop and therefore didn't adopt an annoying, whispery tone when she was disciplining me or my brother, would have made some snarky comment about not running a restaurant. Liv's parenting makes me very cranky. What about the "Three bites and you're out" rule, after which the kid is invited to make themselves a PB sandwich if they won't eat the main course? And why did this get to me more than the rest of the episode?

    TLC Junkies: 90DF + Other Train Wrecks

    I seem to be only dipping my toes in the fetid pool of reality shows.  Aside from any of the 90 Day iterations, I only watch My 600-Pound Life, I Am Jazz, Flip or Flop, Leah Remini's Scientology show, and any Great Baking Show.  But a lot of my time is taken up with L&O: SVU, cooking shows and Y&R.

    I watch a lot of British cooking shows, so I'm bilingual, for lack of a better term.  Caster sugar is the same as superfine sugar.  For single cream, we'd use 10% cream (half-and-half), and for double cream we'd use whipping cream (35% cream).  For golden syrup, we'd use dark corn syrup. And, according to Ree, instead of a glug of olive oil or a knob of butter, we'd just use a "buncha".

    Sandwich cakes were a "thing" in the 50s and 60s, not the 60s and 70s.  My mother used to make them for occasions such as baby showers.  You used to be able to buy sandwich bread that was cut horizontally instead of vertically, and the fillings of choice were tuna salad, egg salad and salmon salad.  The loaf was frosted with cream cheese and decorated with sliced radishes, etc.  Party sandwiches were also big back in the day, and there's still one place in Montreal that is everyone's go-to for this delicacy.

    I wonder how my mom's crowd would have felt about all the innovative flavours. I think they'd be more classic in their tastes, but that's just me.

    Venom (2018)

    I loved the movie. It was so much fun, and I am a sucker for quippy lines, which this film had in abundance. Now, the bad news:  I went into it as a blank slate (meaning not only spoiler-free, but I wasn't really sure who Venom was.)  I was surprised to learn after the fact that he's a villain in the Spideyverse.  Oh well...

    One more cat story:  I was a struggling single mom and one night decided to treat my son and myself to steaks from the butcher shop of our fave steakhouse.  They were cut a bit wonky, so the price was right.  I left the steaks to defrost on the counter while I went about my business and came in to see Vanilla, who looked like a polar bear, hugging a steak bone, growling as he systematically gnawed his way through the delicious meat.  I still had one steak left to split with my son, and we enjoyed it, but probably not as much as Vanilla did.

    Pole was told that Kreeny is at the clinic with her mother.  So, maybe Mom's the patient.  If Graceline has to have her gall bladder removed or something like that, I'm doing the Will & Grace Told You So Dance.
