    It's for 4 weeks.

By the end of the fourth week we will all be bored out of our minds. They always run these idiotic twists for far too long.

When Julie Chen-Moonves told the cast to 'expect the unexpected' , I was waiting for one of them to say "You mean like your new face ? No one was expecting that !" 😀

That is the way I understood it, but I am also recalling it being discussed on the show when she first joined the show. She didn't want to do it and he encouraged her to do it. And it was mentioned that he spoke directly to Whoopi about it.

Yes, they keep mentioning her father but again, I believe it was when he was a guest on the show sitting between Whoopi and Sunny after she said yes to the job - and he asked them to toughen her up.

Believe me, if he had anything at all to do with her actually being offered the job on the show, or 'getting her the job' as some are mistakenly claiming, she wouldn't be keeping it to herself. She would've bragged about this for the past four years.

  3. For the record, the ratings are in for the week of June, and 'The View' is up in viewers by 48,000, with key female demographics most sought after by advertisers: women 18-49 and women 25-54.  The increase brings it to just under 2.5 M daily viewers - pretty unheard of for the months of June, when summer activities and summer vacations kick off on Memorial Day weekend. Usually, no one is home watching TV on summer days.  No wonder the network offered her everything to stay, with those ratings reports in their hands. They do not want to upset the apple cart.  The show was #1 in daytime talk shows.

Meanwhile, their rival 'The Talk' has lost 14% of it's viewers in the month of June, with Sharon Osborne gone. It's key female audience demos are at an all-time low, and the show is barely attracting half the number of viewers 'The View' is attracting. The show started in the bottom of the ratings in September, and it's ending it's 11th season in the bottom of the ratings.

It seemed like a story she didn't really want to do because she and presumably most of her audience didn't know who he was, so she didn't really want to bother with it.  So she meandered around before finally getting to the point of the story, that he was dead and had been murdered.  She probably could have pretended to care a bit to avoid the backlash.  The Twitter response has been mentioned on some sites and on ET, which just did a quick story and then said she didn't respond to request for comment.  I doubt she'll even mention it again.

I agree. These days, everyone is a celebrity in their own world on social media. No one really knows who these people are, and frankly no one cares. If anything, she could have focused on 'yet another young black man being shot and killed', and go into why this is happening and how it has to stop. But frankly, I don't think she cared enough about that, either.

Bottom line:   how she presented it caused a stir, became even more popular than the story on the teen's death, and generating more headlines for her show. She can't be upset about this.

  5. According to the most recent ratings report for June, 2021 : The Talk set an all new record ratings low  for the show ending it's 11th season.

Since Osborne was fired in March, the show has lost 14% of it's viewers. The show hit all time ratings lows with key female demographics most sought after by advertisers: women 18-49 and women 25-54. This was right after CBS decided to renew the show for next season.

In the same time period, it's rival 'The View' was up 48,000 viewers in June, giving it just under 2.5 M viewers.

The show ends the season stuck in last place among daily talk shows and daily network programming (including game shows and soaps). 'The View' remains the #1 daytime talk show on TV, closing out it's 24th season.

He got her the job. Whoopi even admitted that when MeAgain announced she is leaving. But I believe it was also said way back at the beginning when she started.

I missed Whoopi saying that. I'll have to watch it again (it's on my DVR).  I know MeAgain said she sought her father's advice on whether or not she should take the job when they offered it to her in 2017, to which he sais yes - but I don't recall her ever saying that her father got her this job. Interesting.

I just rewatched, and I missed it because Whoopi never said it.  After McCain explained she asked for his advice on accepting the job, and he told her to do it.

Sounds like after Meghan said yes, McCain was a guest on the show because Whoopi referenced when he was sitting between Whoopi and Sunny, and later said 'take my child, but she'll be a pain in the ass'.

Whoopi said 'Your dad was very smart. He wanted you to be here with us because I think he thought we could toughen you up for what you were going to have - this wonderful baby and his passing.'

Nothing was ever said he got her this job. Nothing at all.

  7. I want to give credit to Wendy for the Neiman Marcus story today. She showed the clip and then added, "and they're all Black," not afraid to hide that fact on her show.  I don't think any other black host of a TV show - Sunny Hostin, Whoopi Goldberg, Don Lemon, Sheryl Underwood,  Al Sharpton, Joy Reid  - would ever acknowledge that  publicly.  As a matter of fact, none of them have even covered this story (granted, 'The View' has been on vacation this week) even though it's gone viral. Yet these type of aggressive robberies such as this - by ALL races and people - has been going on for quite some time now. And people wonder why retailers are quickly shutting down retail locations and moving rapidly to on-line stores ?

The View though has almost always had at least one conservative voice at the table.

Since Hasslebeck left, the show has had the most passive conservative voices at the table - Candace, Paula, Jed, Nicloe, and now even Ana.  None of them let their conservative opinions be heard, they all cowered under Whoopi and Joy and then ended up agreeing with them and smiling (Candace was the worst of this bunch). I had some hope for Jed, but even she would let Joy and Whoopi walk all over her and never stood her ground the way Hasslebeck and McCain did. Jed would end up laughing everything off when things got heated, instead of standing her ground.

Only Hasslebeck and MeAgain have been assertive enough to stick by their opinions, and challenge the other hosts. I hope they don't choose another passive RINO.

Since her father laid the groundwork for her being asked to join the View it's not a far reach to think she was assured certain things. Meghan has even said as much over the years.  Getting to speak last comes to mind.

How did her father lay the groundwork for her being asked to join the show ?

(I've never heard of that before.)

she was on Outnumbered, not The Five

I thought 'Outnumbered' became 'The Five' ? Then again, I don't keep up with the shows on FOX - I knew she was on a talk show similar to The View (panel of hosts sharing their opinions) and she was probably much more comfortable there then jumping over to 'The View'.

  10. 1 hour ago, ifionlyknew said:

She says "I pride myself on always taking big risks, rolling the dice, and making unpredictable life and career choices,"

Pretty sure  her career choices were decided by which employer thought the McCain name meant something.  What risk has she ever taken?  And which choices were unpredictable?  Now if she wants to talk about the bad choices she made we can do that all day long.

I would say leaving FOX's "The Five" to join "The View" was a career risk. She fit in perfectly on the FOX network, with four other conservatives sharing their opinions. A big risk to leave a cushy job like that and jump into a more popular long-time talk show dominated by liberals.

I'm from Rhode Island as is Brent. There are thousands and thousands of Brents here. In some neighborhoods everyone's a Brent. Anyway there's a pretty high possibility he's a tool.

I'm from RI and I have yet to meet more than a few - I want to meet a Brent ! 😄

I think his game is obvious - he's going to use his handsome looks and charm to play everyone; the women and the men in the house.

I didn't realize that was the type of doctor she has. My mom subscribed to a Concierge Doctor on top of her health insurance.

I'm assuming this is the kind of doctor she has - it sounded like it the way she was describing it. More importantly, this is the service she can afford, and she is the patient they go after - hence, my assumption.

You mom's health insurance probably covers hospital stays, or visits to a specialist. The Concierge Doc (family medicine) does not go through health insurance, as he doesn't accept their pre-determined rates.

  13. WTH did Julie do to her face during the pandemic ?

I'm the odd man out, but I'm rooting for Brent. He's cute and he's sexy and he's from my state of RI.

Britini is annoying as hell, and I didn't take a liking to Derek F.

Select patients? Wow Wendy! The truth comes out. Doctors were seeing select patients during Covid and she was one of them. Lucky her. Not so lucky for others.

I think she was referring to a growing field in medicine over the past decade or so: "Concierge Doctors".  These are doctors who take on a limited number of patients, and do not accept any health insurance plans - you pay out of pocket. Needless to say, the very wealthy are their patients. You also have to pay an 'annual membership' to be a 'member patient' of his / her service. Membership is usually through a referral system by current patients (members).  It's usually opened to those 55 and over.

The big upside to this is that your doctor usually responds to your calls within an hour (no matter how trivial the ailment is), he/she makes house calls, and no waiting days or weeks for an appointment at home or in the office - usually it's same day for members. They are usually available to you (or a colleague of theirs) nights, overnights, weekends and holidays - so someone is always available to treat you ASAP (emergency or not).

My long-time doctor switched to this service in 2015. From what I understand, he kept a few patients (and picked up more through them), but the rest of us dropped out. I, for one, couldn't afford the out-of-pocket payments plus the $250 membership fee (I have no idea how much that increased since then).

I have two friends who have concierge doctors and these two factors were a HUGE plus during COVID. When each of them had COVID symptoms last year, both doctors tested them at home, and examined them at home - not at the doctor's office or an emergency clinic. Both of them felt it was worth the membership and OOP payments; both are in their 60s and rather wealthy.

I have a feeling that Wendy subscribes to this type of health service, as this is BIG BUSINESS in New York City and other big cities across the country. If this is the case, she needed to clarify this.

Yeah, she was showing a pic of a blonde and was going on about her and said she resembled MeAgain and oh, by the way, blah, blah, blah.  She was trying to slide it in with as little acknowledgement of her error as possible.  I'm sure it killed her to have to admit that she misspoke.  LOL

That's right - the wedding couple who was suing Gordon Ramsey. The woman did look like McCain in that photo...but the story Wendy was telling about the whole ordeal completely bored me.

  16. Here's an interesting article right here on PRIMETIMER, which backs up just about everything I have said over the past few months. Read carefully  these paragraphs:

"During McCain’s time at The View, the ABC talk show reached ratings-highs never before seen in its 24-season history. Part of that viewership increase can be attributed to The Trump Effect: with so much news coming out of the Trump White House every day, viewers turned to pundits for clarity. But while most mainstream cable news networks have watched ratings decrease since President Biden took office, The View has managed to hold on to, and even grow, its base. In late June, The View ranked No. 1 in households and amassed 2.8 million total viewers for the first time ever at this point in the season, and it’s currently up 2% compared to the same point last year. It’s no stretch to say that this surge is largely due to McCain, who has continued to make headlines even as Hot Topics have dragged under the Biden administration.

ABC’s executives are keenly aware of this fact: last week Page Six reported that the network “begged her to stay” and even offered McCain an ABC News contributor role, but she turned it down. Controversial as she may be, McCain is a huge profit-driver, even if — and likely because — her presence comes with a hefty side of Twitter dragging.

Quite simply, Meghan McCain made The View relevant again, and if ABC wants to continue making a midday splash, execs are going to have to take all of this into account. Now that the blonde genie is out of the bottle, it’s almost certain that whoever fills McCain’s seat will be even more extreme than the conservative firebrand.

Meghan McCain’s departure leaves ABC with two options: ditch politics altogether and watch ratings drop off a cliff, or hire someone even more conservative and set Twitter on fire."

Hate on her all you want, but the show has much to thank her for what she contributed.

  17. One conservative voice I would love for them to hire on the show is former FOX host Gretchen Carlson. She's been a guest and guest host a few times in the past four years (since her lawsuit against FOX) and she's rather enjoyable. She may have a tendency to be too passive (and end up like Candace, Paula and Jed on the show), but I'm hoping she'd be more aggressive with the others.

In any event. I don't think they're going to rush to fill the seat before September. They have the four of them in place now (Sara's staying) and Ana as the spare - so they really don't need to fill McCain's chair right away.

Just letting everyone know, on today’s show, Wendy Williams walked back the comment she made during last Friday’s show about Sara leaving The View at season’s end. She said she liked Sara and her sidekick, Norman, said he loved her. So we can put that rumor to rest. As usual, Wendy misspoke and misstated facts. She misstates things on a daily basis therefore I take anything she has to say with a grain of salt. The only thing I’m surprised about is that she corrected herself on the record. Perhaps her team encouraged her to do so.

I saw that - it took her enough time to make the correction, too ! You would've thought she would start Monday's show with the correction, but she waited until the middle of Hot Topics on Tuesday, when something else she was talking about 'reminded her' to make the correction.

I think that's illustrative of the discussion on this board.   Many of us are discussing what we think will improve the show going forward.   NOT, what changes were made in the past and how it affected ratings.

Why does the show need improvement going forward ? It's #1 in the daytime ratings, and the first quarter was their best quarter ever. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'm sure the producers and network does indeed look back over the past 25 seasons and sees what works for the ratings and what doesn't.

And what happened to W taking the entire summer off? Am I not remembering this correctly?

I think she took the entire summer off over the past two years when she was ill and out on sick leave both summers. Other than that - and I'm not a big Wendy follower - she was always on right through the end of July like all the other talk shows on TV, taking the month of August off and returning after Labor Day.

I didn't watch yesterday's show yet - probably won't get to it until the end of the week. By any chance did Jerry O make any announcement on his joining 'The Talk' ?  He was a regular co-host the month of May, and apparently he's been in negotiations the past month of June to join the show to replace Sharon for next season. Many are reporting it's a done deal.

  21. Wallace was too passive on the show. She was supposed to be the 'conservative voice' in 2014-15, but she wasn't. Not by far. She went along with everything Rosie O and Whoopi said, and if she dared oppose to show the republican viewpoint she did it in a barely audible whisper. She came across as a 'RINO' on the show, never really standing up for the conservative views she was hired for in the first place (Palin would've probably been so much better). It was a strange dynamic on the show with her. Now she's on MSNBC and found her place as a true RINO.

As for MeAgain, as I said repeatedly since last Thursday - she's not angling for another show. She has her eyes on something much bigger, IMO. Just pay attention to what Whoopi and Joy were saying to her and the audience when she announced her leaving.

For the record, Wendy was live yesterday and made no corrections to her statement last Friday that Sara is leaving the end of the season. So it looks like she's standing by what she said.

And as far as I can see, Sara has not corrected her in her own words on social media this weekend, either.

Politics can be discussed. But it doesn't have to be a blood sport.  A healthy political debate does not need to devolve into whataboutism or pouting.

Agreed, but that seems to be what gets the ratings. It happened in 2006-07 with Rosie and Hasslebeck on the show, and now the past few years with MM on the show.
