  1. It may not have been deserved but I'm glad to see the last of the Tik Tok Teens.  Erhan's channel (Ethan The Artisan (@ethan.the.artisan) is fun as he demonstrates speed-builds but Dom's (Dom! (@thedombrack) is boring -- just stupid teen stuff and no builds.  I looked at his Tik Tok, Instagram and YouTube videos and didn't see any builds, so how was he chosen?

Someone posted recently about how the show started with a diverse group of teams, but all the older and teams of colour are gone. I’m expecting the women to go next, so we get an all white guy final. As usual.

Tyler and Amy won Season One, so we've had one season with an all-male top 3.  (Friends Natalie and Michelle came in 4th last season.)

I love mini golf, so I loved this challenge. I see that next week we're back to "build the tallest/strongest/whatever" and then "destroy the build!"

I read an article that said that there was a team that disassembled all the builds on a day or so (maybe less) so all the builds are destroyed.  I bet that team likes the "Destroy The Build" challenges.

there was no chance the tiktok team would go home this early  after they pull the stunt to put them into the competition. They could have shown a broken down alleycat  and the other team would have gone home. This team is going to the final three.

I haven't seen the Camp episode but had to totally agree with this.  There was no frockin' way that the Tik Toks repaired the legs and the head in 5 minutes.  Just fixing the neck so the head didn't fall off again would probably have taken 5 minutes, These boys started at 3rd base, were given a walk and are congratulating themselves for hitting a homer.

"It's not paranoia when they are out to get you."  There have been very very few women's alliances that have lasted more than a few episodes, whereas the "Bro's" often stick together (and are usually my least favorite people).  Couple that with the fact that the first 3 out are all women and it's a lot more likely that they would come for her.  I think that she could have and should have expressed this more clearly so her tribemates got where she was coming from.  So I don't think it's all her fault (never mind that women always have to meet a higher standard than men).

At least they kicked off the two Black women early so they could avoid another charge of racism!

I did too, so was miffed when they got Kumail's episode wrong. People will use cursive and block letters interchangeably, but someone will not use serifs on their "I"s at time and not at others.  The mouth-murder-note didn't have serifs, but the jock's "Learning is dumb" did.  We don't know if Lisa is good at knots, but since the coder was ruled out due to his throwing, and the jock was ruled out dues his writing, she had to be the killer.  @grandmabegum, if you know the showrunner, ask if anyone pointed this out. It weakened an otherwise good episode.

I don't necessarily disagree. I too am tired of the traditional, "same Bat-time, same Bat-channel" style cliffhangers too, especially because in today's TV universe they're really not needed. I also think the episode doesn't necessarily need it, but if it had a small scene that gave a nod to an unresolved storyline, I would not have minded. It displays that the show is still aware of their unresolved stories and there's still a commitment to finishing them, instead of forgetting them and leaving us, the audience, to wonder what could have been.

Queens had a great cliff-hanger: The main characters are on stage and a special guest is announced.  Is it Jill or is it Lauren? Tune in next season to find out!!! (Except we won't since it was cancelled -- we can fantasize whichever one we want.)  No "Who will live and who will die????" nonsense like Our Kind of People.

So we've finished S5 and we're headed to S6. As far as I can tell, there are four storylines that remain unresolved heading into next season. They are (ranked based on what I feel are the most significant storylines):

    1. Who replaces Christina Alonso? There's still a chance that Esco comes back every now and then in the future because now Alonso is officially in a relationship with Jim Street, and while I believe it's likely, it's not a guarantee. The bigger question, though, is who will replace Esco as the show's female lead? The show has a number of in-house candidates- most notably Norma Kuhling (Norah Fowler) and Brigette Kali Canales (Alexis Cabrera)- but there's also the possibility that the show will bring in an entirely new actress for a completely new character.
    2. The elusive Saint and his stash houses. Saint was introduced early in S5 and, in-universe, he's a pillar of the community who can do no wrong. Hondo, however, strongly suspects Saint is up to some shady business in the drug dealing game and Hondo is out to prove it. Hondo's friend Leroy gave us a tiny lead in this direction by connecting us with one of Saint's dealers, but the dealer was shot dead after the sting operation went sideways. So, where does it go from here?
    3. Hondo becomes a dad. In the S5 finale, Nichelle, Hondo's girlfriend, revealed she was pregnant, ending a storyline where she and Hondo tried so hard to have a baby. Now that it's finally happening, I'm assuming that the next time we see Nichelle (probably in the premiere, because Hollywood doesn't seem to care about correctly following timelines) the baby will be born and we'll have some cute scenes of the happy couple holding their baby. Which begins the next part of their story- Hondo and Nichelle will now have to raise that kid, which will not be easy. Can Hondo juggle being SWAT squad leader and a father?
    4. Eduardo Ortiz's wrongful conviction. We met Ortiz when we first saw him take part in Deacon's prison prayer group, and since then (after much haggling), Ortiz has recruited Deacon and his wife, Annie, to look into his conviction for murder because Ortiz feels he was wrongfully convicted. The only complication is that Ortiz took a plea deal- meaning he willingly pled guilty- so overturning the conviction isn't as simple as finding new evidence that leads to a new trial. Deacon and Annie need to find conclusive proof that Ortiz didn't commit the crime just to have chance at reopening the case. To this end, Annie did interview a woman who knew the murder victim, and this woman let slip a detail that was never released to the public, indicating that she might actually be the culprit after all. The storyline sits at a place where, despite Annie presenting this evidence, the detective still won't reopen the investigation. Is this the end of the story, or is there another twist in the tale?
    5. The blowback from the LAPD on Hondo for going to the press at the end of S4. S5 started by addressing this story with Hondo taking a strange sabbatical in Mexico before going back to the team demoted to the sidelines as a new team leader, Rodrigo Sanchez, took his spot. Sanchez was quite open that he was simply there to get Hondo to quit, but, expectedly, he failed at that task, moving on to another gig. Sanchez did warn Hondo- and Commander Hicks, who reinstated Hondo as Sergeant as team leader of 20-squad- that Sanchez was "only the beginning". Since then, the storyline has been dormant and left unaddressed. Does it get resolved, or is this storyline officially done?

Those are all the unresolved threads that I can think of. Speculate below, and if you can think of any other unresolved plotlines, go ahead and bring those up too.

Who replaces Christina Alonso? I've never liked the Street-Chris hookup.  He worked a lot better with Molly Hicks, and she worked better with the poly couple until the network got cold feet about a non-standard relationship and blew it up with jealousy BS (I know a number of poly "pods" and they just don't work like that).  So I'd be happy if we never see that couple again.

The elusive Saint and his stash houses. I would have been so happy if just once the all-knowing Hondo had been wrong and Saint really was just a pillar of the community.  But now that he's twirled his mustache at Hondo, there's no hope of that.

The blowback from the LAPD on Hondo for going to the press at the end of S4. They seem to have dropped that plot and that's fine. LAPD seeming like a bunch of schoolkids while S.W.A.T. are these shining heroes is not a good look for the LAPD, and they don't need that tarnishing in Real Life.

It could have been, you're right. Maybe they filmed it that way in case they didn't get a sixth season, and maybe they just liked the episode so much that they decided not to change it even after getting news of the renewal.

I knew about Lina Esco's statement the moment it came out. So I'm sure she won't be a regular next season. However, I do suspect she'll come back for an episode or two just to have a few scenes with Street, or maybe she'll be a key part in an episode as a "special guest star". I doubt this episode will be the last we'll see of Esco on S.W.A.T.

I never thought that Lina Esco was all that great of an actress (and Chris was the only team-mate Hondo called by first name!), so I won't miss her much (and I certainly won't miss the ham-handed way they treated Erica).  I'm certainly not going out of my way to see what she's in next.  If she comes back for more cringey Striss cr*p, I'm fast-forwarding.

It probably makes sense from the show's standpoint, they want the audience to bombard the network with demands the show be renewed so they can see how the cliffhanger is resolved. It's nice they didn't do one, just in case, but I can see why a lot of shows do.

That hasn't worked in years.  The "send a _thing_ to the network execs may have worked for one or two shows, but now it's over.

OIf-topic a bit: apparently, the CW knew they were going to have to cancel a lot of shows due to losing studio space (they ended up canceling 8!) so the showrunners were warned to wrap up plot-lines and not have cliff-hangers.  Of course, not all of them did.

  13. 15 hours ago, iMonrey said:

That's only because they didn't know if they'd be renewed and had to plan for a possible series finale. If they'd gotten early renewals it might have been different. Maybe the networks should make a habit of holding off on early renewals just for that very reason.

Far too many shows "on the bubble" add shocking cliffhangers, as if that's going to convince execs to renew the show

Now, this take is hilarious considering how many decades (centuries, if we delve into the literary world) women have had to engage with media in which almost every character is male, always, and we were expected to just accept that as the default. Funny how including just a few women in prominent roles has the men clutching their pearls over how awful it is to not feel represented. 🙄 Guys, you still have plenty of strong male representation on this show, you can cope with a few female characters as well.

So very much.  Any time these days that a show or movie has a diverse cast (or, horrors, a POC playing a historically white person), we get the cries of how "woke" the producers are (as if being asleep to injustice is a good thing).

  18. So,,,. I'm  thinking about strategy for the next Tribal Council.  I think that Romeo and Mike are obvious goats -- there's no reason to vote them out now,  Mike especially would be very bitter towards anyone who would dare vote the Master Strategist out.  On, the other hand, Lindsey and Omar are in trouble, I think -- if either get to final with Jonathon, he's toast, but he's more of a threat than the others, so they might want him out.

What would be fun is if Omar has read the instructions (or been told the instructions) for the Beware Advantage and realizes that it's worthless.  So he gives it to someone but doesn't tell them that it's burned (if, in fact, it is).  At TC, the stooge plays the idol and whooops, so sorry, but you're out.

Since there are actual prizes involved in Survivor, it is expected to be a 'fair' game show no matter how much we viewers speculate about producer interference. And Jeff/Production choosing who stays/goes with Do or Die would break that fairness even more than it seems on the surface.

Standards and Practices do not apply to "reality" shows, which are allowed to change rules at production's whim.  Ptroduction has definitely influenced who votes for whom, but I don't think they'd rig this game, although I think that they legally could.

There was a segment with Ray and Jake with them talking about Jake taking over the "most hated" spot from Ray, so at least he has a bit of a sense of humor about it.  I noticed that Ray seems a LOT more light-hearted this season, taking losses with a sense of humor, congratulating other teams and saying that they beat him where he used to say that he beat himself.

There really isn't much logistic difference between Hijinx and Tombstone, so I guess I can move past the simplistic design.

My wife and I are both on team Witch Doctor.  The Golightly are the best team captained by a woman (Malice and Valerie aren't bad but their record is spotty st best) and I'm glad to see more women on most of the teams.
