Q is delusional but in an amusing way. At his worst, he's not screaming for God to take him out of the game.  Bhanu was torture to watch and listen to.

I think it was "this is an iconic challenge that I'll only get to try this once" to a certain extent.  Women, being lighter in general, gave done well on challenges like this, I think.

I don't know if Ferrigna is just a crap actor, or if he's being directed to be extremely reserved

To be fair, his main role for the last 6 years has been backup for a group of MANLY men (on S.W.A.T.) so he's used to being reserved.

Ugh. UGH UGH! I know that a lot of people like this but if Eddie is also bi (or gay, moreso), I see that as "gay-pandering" -- there's absolute nothing to indicate that he likes men.

And, no, I do not check out other men's asses. Or any other portion of their anatomy.

Gamewise Q and Hunter are bigger threats, Hunter because of his comp beast mode and his social game and Q because of how he dominates the game and takes over all the time.

Last season, "Uncle" Bruce took over to a major extent and got voted out 10th. I'm not sure that Q will last that long.

  5. Opportunities to knock out both members of the Get Rid OSlimy GirlS [GROSS -- from Calvin and Hobbes] Club (Q and Tevan) but nope.  I guess we'll have to deal with these hoteps for a while longer.

    .

Last week, I wanted Venus to go full tilt on the way that Q and Tevan were bossing everyone, especially the women, and make a play to get one of them out.

Tevan is so much more than than the flamboyant actor I first thought he was. He surprised me in the challenge and by his willingness to let Soda go.

Tevan's "alliance" with Soda has always been paper-thin and one-sided.  He has complained from the get-go that "she plays too hard" (what does that even mean?), that she's social (a major part of the game, nitwit) and that she talks too much.  All of these are reasons to stick with her, not try to get rid of her

I started liking Tevan more than Yam Yam (whom I thought was way too full of himself), but not any more.

'm still up set that they invoked the "Bury The Gays" trope. It's just torture porn at this point. I hate it.

I did enjoy the Rabbi. As a Jewish lesbian, it's never really been a hardship for me to relate to Judaism, but there are a lot of different braches of the culture and the faith, and certainly the Hasids are not famous for being friendly to us. But, honestly, if Asher looked even a tiny little bit, he would have found friendly Jewish congregations easily-- they exist in many places, and surely in the city/state where the show is set.

it's set in San Jose, California, which is a minute away from gay-as-hell San Francisco, so finding a LGBTQ+ synagogue would be easy.

I found this interview about the choice to kill off Asher and while I get that the actor was ready to go, it really sucks that they decided to have him get murdered instead of giving him his happily ever after with Jerome.

    Quote

Weissman also acknowledged that the writers’ room was “conscious” about the show falling into the “bury your gays” trope of killing off queer characters for the sake of tragedy. Additionally, he praised showrunner Liz Friedman — who he noted is herself a member of the LGBTQ community — for guiding the writers through crafting the emotional hour.

"We're conscious of the 'Bury Your Gays' trope; we just don't give a crap.  And our token LGBTQ+ showrunner was told by  management to give us an an OK!"

Black women have to work 3times harder to get a third of the respect, especially from Black gay men.  Soda was making sure that Venus and Hunter felt like part of the Tribe once the merge came, not crack it apart when strong Tribes last longer past the merge, Tevon.  "She's playing too hard." is such a stupid thing to say.  He's not as irritating as some but his wanting to be Sole Leader of his Tribe is off-putting.

I did laugh when Kevin stomped off in the book shoes. As a visual gag, that worked. But ten minutes for one laugh is not worth it to me.

One laugh?  That was more than me.  I’ve thought Hart was mean-spirited since he told a”joke” about buying his kids’ love then sending back to their much poorer mom.  Here he wasted time and a spot for a “prank” that he didn’t even wait to see if it landed.  Not cool and not funny.

    I think that Starfish is

  10. I never watched The Good Wife or The Good Fight so all I knew about the show was from the ads, which were all about how "quirky" she is.  To paraphrase Lou Grant, "You're quirky.  I hate quirky."  I got that it was a modern day Columbo early on, but Elsbeth doesn't gave Columbo's charm. So I'm iffy -- I'll have to see if it's too quirky for me.

What was with the business of the killer switching the pills in the dressing room and back in the apartment?

Laura lost me with the whole 'bean dip' thing.  She told Jeremy to 'do it to AD' meaning -- smack her boob.  And then when both AD and Clay got offended she kept dismissing it as a joke, insisting that people were making something out of nothing and claiming they were being childish.

I agree that was bad, but if she was like that even most of the time, I don't think that she would have been made so welcome or have been so supported by the other women at the beach party.

There's a difference between making an offensive comment once and being overly defensive about it, and being a "mean girl" which seems chauvenustic to me.

Tim said "I believe in female empowerment -- my mom, granny and wife are female and 'some of my best friends are female' but we have to ice some bitches."  Maybe not those exact words but close enough!

Neither the "savvy" nor "sweat" challenge really had a decent shot of being won, they were specifically designed to befuddle the players and give us (the audience) a good laugh at their expense.

The two guys seem to have found all the numbers pretty quickly, and it's a pretty common thing in word search puzzles for the unused letters to spell a phrase.  If the had thought of that, I think they had enough time let to solve the puzzle.

I'll never understand all these food allergies. How can one be allergic to poultry, vegetables, and fruit? Are we talking serious allergies like she swells up and can't breathe? Why on earth is she even on this island?

There's an allergy called FODMAP (fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols) which severely limit what you can eat (think of it as Celiac diease to the 10th power).  It causes an extremely severe reaction, too.  Definite not something you want to go on Survivor with!

I was watching The Irrational and they killed off a character, and I had the opposite reaction. He was the love interest of the main character's ex, and they had absolutely no chemistry and he was dull even outside the relationship. So I cheered that one. LOL.

Marisa Clark on Irrational has the same house as Gabrielle "Gabi" Mosely on Found.

I don’t know why the writers are trying to make us think they would actually fridge the newest addition to the cast.

They have fridged several women, notably Erika Rogers.  Lyndie Greenwood was on the show for a handful of episodes as a semi-main charactor before the shot and killed Erika.  This show has always done wrong by its female cast (remember when Nichelle actually had a personality?)  I wouldn't be at all surprised if Powell is really dead -- would Gabriel be dumb enough not to make sure?

That "fight" was so stupid -- I'm sure that SWAT members are taught how to break chokeholds!

True crime and comedy and adult animation

Ghosts (US, which is funnier and less mean than the UK version [also true of The Office]) and Bob ♥ Abishola are excellent comedies and are starting in February,  The Futon Critic has a line-up of all shows as well as a short description.

Not Dead Yet isn't knock-down comedy but it is fun.  It's about a woman who's visited by the ghosts of people she's writing an obituary for.  Abbot Elementary follows a ragtag group of teachers as they educate their students.

You have a point here but I think that Survivor producers just want to have certain types of people every season that just repeat themselves; the cute, outgoing girl, the fit guy, the old person who was a professional athlete or a war veteran, the mommy type of woman, the nerdy guy and/or girl, and so on. I think that Drew just fits this nerdy type of guy they wanted, and I think that's the problem with modern Survivor; they don't search for interesting personalities, they just want to have 3 teams of 6 people who fit these types and are more or less equal. Or maybe we as fans have started to get bored with Survivor and we are not as enthusiastic about it as we used to be.

Drew was still picked out of hundreds (or more) "nerdy guys".  And if he watched Survivor, he'd know that the "nerdy guy" is going to be picked last.  It's on him to realize that it's no one's obligation to pick him just because of his history.

Yes, I was disappointed that Rob and Corey fell behind...but when looking back over their normal placement in other legs, they were often in that third place position.  I was afraid they'd go out in fourth place where a lot of my favorite teams of the past have been eliminated.

    Rob and Corey came in 3rd in 4 legs out of 12 with 3 2nds and 2 4th place finishes, 1 each of 1st, 5th and 6th. Greg and John had 5 1sts, 3 2nds, 2 3tds and 2 8ths. Joel and Garrett had 3 2nds, 3 3rds, 2 7ths,  2 9ths and 1 each of 1st and 4th

Well, damn. Every single player I was ever rooting for, or the slightest bit interested or invested in, is now gone. By default, I guess I am hoping that 287, Mai, wins, if only for standing up to 278, Ashley

I was hoping that Bee (the girl with yellow streaks in her hair) would win.  Nope.  Then I switched to Hailey (Bee's friend).  Nope.  Now I'm torn between Mai (for targeting Ashley in the dice game -- but she did a crap job explaining why she did) or Phil, who seems like a nice guy.  Sam is too little too late -- but I have a friend who can't visit her parents, because being trans in South Carolina  is a death sentence and her parents refuse to see her as who she is, so some sympathy there.

  22. Dee has done what you're supposed to on Survivor: find an alliance and keep it tight.  She may be a little smug but she deserves to be.  "A woman has to work twice as hard to get half as much appreciation."  I think the fact that she is "conventionally attractive" works against her too.
