The other thing is this, and please don't take this as inflammatory.  I really want to know.   If TAR, Master Chef and others are so superior on Canadian TV, why are you still watching U.S. show?  If I had better versions of my favorite show available for my viewing, I just wouldn't waste my time on the inferior shows.  I can't be the only person pushed for time.

I can only comment on TAR because I don't watch the other shows, but TAR Canada only has 1 season a year that airs in the summer, so there's no overlap of TAR US and TAR Canada, so it's easy enough to watch both.

  2. I think that TAR US should take a look at TAR Canada.  My kids lost interest in watching TAR US because it had gotten so easy.  TAR Canada is really hard and I think it's more interesting to watch. Making the challenges more interesting again would help the US ratings.

You know what else would help with the US ratings? Going back to old school TAR. Nobody is interested in Blind Date TAR or Singles TAR. The show became popular based on what it was. People want to watch the show that they started watching, not this newfangled crap. It didn't need fixing or changing. It was fine just the way it was.

Oh, and what kind of computer to be used for school work costs 2300$?? I bought a new computer about a year ago and it was 750$.

Well it depends.  When my son started public high school, he was entering a program where they do the bulk of their work on computers.  We were obliged to purchase a Mac which set me back about $2600 CAD (never mind the case, mouse, and mouse pad on top of that).  So perhaps there were stipulations on the type of computer.

The defendant was a first class asshole and I'm glad JM threw the book at him.

I'm really curious.  Do US daycares have rooms with glass walls that look like hospital baby nurseries?

The kinder cares, or franchised ones do.  It was a plus to show up and see my child was playing or  one on one with a caregiver.  And I knew the teachers were being watched while I wasn't there.  I had him in private homes twice with no such transparency and it ended badly both times.

Interesting.  The non-private home daycares in Quebec are basically like very large houses and the kids are divided by age into the various rooms with their assigned caregivers. So for dropoff and pickup you just walk over to the room that your child is assigned to.

I know absolutely nothing about chopsticks because I can't get the hang of them, so I have no idea how long these "fancy" ones have been around.

Ahem, they are the opposite of "fancy."  They are the ones you get from the local bulletproof window Chinese takeout.  That's part of the comedy here.

LOL.  As I said, I know nothing about chopsticks to even know how "fancy" they are.  :-)

I knew I'd seen that "snap the end off the chopsticks" idea before on a click bait article, and sure enough:

So, she's got a patent for something that's already there? Personally I'm just going to stick to the wrapper-origami approach; you don't need to aim so precisely with it.

I know absolutely nothing about chopsticks because I can't get the hang of them, so I have no idea how long these "fancy" ones have been around.

Is it possible that whoever created them never got a patent, or she has a US patent and the other ones have a patent for somewhere else?

I'm glad to see Lori's normal schtick of "compliment the pitcher if she's out, compliment herself if she's in" hasn't gone away after these many seasons.

Yes! I don't know who gets the credit for originally bringing this to my attention,  but I carefully listen now and try to see how quickly I can predict which way she's going.

Also, I did not see any actual tears in Kevin's eyes.  And Lori, of all people, seemed a lot more genuine in her condolences.

I did.  I saw him wipe his eyes and could see that they were wet. I was shocked to discover that the Tin Man has a heart.

Cat wine guy (paraphrasing): "I wasn't expecting to get a deal and I got multiple offers!"

Truer words were never spoken.  Not only did he get multiple offers, they were fighting each other to get the guy to pick them!  I would have never believed that would happen in a million years.

I also cannot believe that the Dude wipes are selling in the millions.  Walmart (their own house brand) sells the same stuff at a fraction of the price.

I hated this format - I hope they never do it again. The pitches are way too short and have too little info to make an informed decision. I think they picked the wrong business in at least two of the pitches. And how odd that the candy pitchers had samples for the dragons, but the food pitchers didn't. But Joe said he tasted the food of the pitcher they did not pick, and he liked it?

I did like that when Diane B. asked the stupid question to the fence pitchers - did they think they should have included some numbers - the female pitcher said that yes, since the dragons actually told them that, they should have. Diane B. was a dud in this episode along with the format.

As for Joe tasting the food: They say that the pitches are often quite long and are heavily edited for TV.  If they paused filming at some point to give someone a bathroom break or adjust makeup or something, he probably walked over at some point to taste it.

I really, really hated it.  I also thought that they picked the wrong business in at least 2 cases.

I thought that the woman's fence product looked much better and seemed easier to assemble.  I thought that the man's product looked cheap and crappy.  I was also more interested in hearing about the other food pitch.

IMHO, all of the pitchers seemed to have a far better product/company to pitch than MANY people we've seen in the "gong show" portion in the past.  Why not just let everybody pitch like on a regular show?  Honestly, this format was dreadful and I never want to see it again.

It looks like his face is dirty.

    So, so bad.

The bad grammar also drives me bonkers.  I'm also an avid reader and my kids will tell you that I have always corrected their grammar.  The one that really drives me nuts is "I axed" instead of "I asked."  Thank goodness I can't determine the quality of their spelling too, or I would likely have to shoot myself out of frustration.

Doug continues to delight me with how he so cheerfully seems to throw shade at the litigants.  I'm quite sure that half the time, they don't realize that he's kind of insulting them.

I wonder if that vacuum thing is real.  He also kept saying 'my customers' but never said (that I remember) what he actually does.  If it works, Jim will be even richer.  If not, he lost some pocket change.

I got the impression that he worked at a specialty vacuum cleaner store.  We have one in my neighbourhood and I still remember going there with a part that we needed to replace and he just glanced at it and knew what brand it was immediately.  I could see the pitcher getting feedback from customers in that way.

I have no problem with "choose now" if the Shark is upfront about it, like Mark was in this episode. There are some business situations in real life where you have to move quickly. My problem is when a Shark (usually Kevin) makes an offer, the entrepreneur ask to hear out the other Sharks, and in the middle of another Shark talking, the Shark who'd initially made the offer says, "forget it, I'm out". That's just jerking people around, which I don't appreciate.

I was actually OK with Mark doing that because he offered her what she asked for.

  13. I watch this every week and Dragon's Den (the Canadian version).  On Dragon's Den, the dragons make their offers, and sometimes the pitchers go into the back room to discuss and/or phone someone and then come back and either take an offer, negotiate, or decline.

On Shark Tank, there is so much and more lately of "take my offer now, or I'm out" or other sharks dropping out and the remaining one revising their offer to be better for themselves.  It seems greedy just in the interest of creating drama for ratings.  My son won't even watch ST anymore because of it.

These are businesses that people have worked hard for and the ST approach is ruining my enjoyment of the show.  I much prefer the DD approach.

I've not seen that show or heard of such a thing before, so I had no idea where they were going with it when they opened the barrel and found maple syrup. I thought, okay, how are they going to explain this one! It was pretty unusual. Who would have thought you could illegally sell maple syrup. I mean, it's maple syrup! (Yum.)

When Marcus and Sherlock opened the barrel, before they identified the contents, my husband said "MAPLE SYRUP. It's our maple syrup story!" He was right and we had a good laugh.

They touched a bit about this on the show, but basically there are limits to how much maple syrup you can sell and for how much, and a lot of Quebec producers are not happy. This article explains a lot.

I really liked Joe when he came on.  But after being so rude last week and now trying to get more equity from 10 year olds (!!!!), I'm wondering what his deal is.  The girls were excited to be doing something, they want to make money so they can donate more socks to homeless shelters, and he wants to negotiate with them.  Michael annoys me to no end, but he tries to do the right thing.  I'm glad he backed out after Joe asked for more equity.

But it wasn't even just Joe. It was Michelle and Jim in on that deal. I was annoyed with them too. I'm glad Michael and Manjit got that deal.

  16. There are a lot of things bothering me about this episode which have already been addressed, but I haven't seen any discussion about this:

John found Victor's bones in the well. That would mean that nobody ever found the child's body. So the child has been missing all these years with the parents wondering what happened. So basically,  Eurus might have told her family that she had killed Victor but there was never any proof of that so they may have dismissed it as "crazy talk." It was only when she burned the house down that they realized for sure that she needed to be committed.

There was never any talk at the end of the show about contacting Victor's family to let them know the truth.

Does anyone know what Debs meant in the Alibi when Monica found out she was a grandmother and said she's the happiest since the summer Debs was born, and Debs replied with something along the lines of "No, it was winter, my birthday is in the summer"? I was confused as to what she was referring to.

Debbie said: "No, winter. My birthday's in December. "

Re my above post, you're totally right that it's Fiona, not Monica. I totally wrote the wrong name in my post.

  18. I finally saw this episode.  I am actually hoping that the next season is the last season.

I would enjoy seeing how the Gallaghers actually manage to rise above the hardships and find a modicom of success. There would be little hurdles along the way, but I'd like to see Fiona become successful with her real estate, Debbie to finish her welding course, Carl to continue succeeding in military school, Lip to stay sober and go back to school, Ian to continue being an EMT and stay on his meds,  and Liam to remain on the straight and narrow.

I really hope that they don't make it all come crashing down.
