  1. I was wondering why no one took the Skytrain from the airport to downtown and then the Seabus over to North Van. But it seems the train only runs every half hour, so missing it would put you in a bad spot.    So far the only team that bugs me are the adventure bros.  Oh and the fitness guy reminds me of Keith Hamilton Cobb, the guy who played Tyr Anasazi on Andromeda.

  2. Pretty fond of it myself.  That zipline thing sounds fun.  I'm trying to convince my husband to do a 2 or 3 week cross country trip, but he's not going for it.  Wants to go down the Washington and Oregon coast instead, as its closer,  We'll probably end up doing neither though, as we'll debate until its too late to plan anything, and then just go visit his family in Quesnel.  Where we will most likely go camping, just to keep it on sort of topic.  It's much easier camping than the north end of the Island, but if you wait until the end of summer, it starts dipping below zero at night.  But it is dry, with no real undergrowth, so much easier to deal with.

Well, I guess this is where this belongs, I am looking at the gear list and it really changed a lot

I notice they got a toothbrush. I don't think they did the first year.

Could you, or someone in the states, copy and paste the list.  Every time I try to go to history.com it defaults me to .ca, which doesn't have the same content as the US site.  Most annoying, and I can't seem to figure out how to stop it. Thanks.

She drank the water without boiling it.

I lived on the Island until I was 18, drank the water straight from creeks, streams and lakes, and am about to turn 50 in a couple of months, so it can't be that bad.  I don't know anyone who got sick from drinking the water, but we were pretty good about drinking from fast running streams and avoiding scummy looking stuff.  It's not terribly hard to find running water on the Island.

  5. My husband and I were both rather bothered by the fact Josh was hiking quite a ways from the dropoff site.  Quit moving around so much if someone is trying to find you!  I know the terrain wasn't terribly flat, but the one being found has no idea where the hiker is coming from, so don't leave the area.  At least the hiker has a compass and a general direction to move towards.  We also talked about what we would do in that situation..  My thoughts were to make a brace or small pony wall on the downslope, put some poles across to the hill and make a flat platform to sleep on.  leave a space at the back so water runs down the hill, Make a windbreak and sleep under your tarp.  I know the woman of the married couple found a good place, and was making a mansion, but all you need is a temporary place until your partner finds you.  Once you're both together, a permanent place can be worked on.

Down here we say sa-lal.  There's a local business with that name and that's how they pronounce it.  I've never heard sha-lol.

Where is down here?  I'm assuming somewhere along the coast.  I grew up on Vancouver Island, and that's all I ever heard it called, but I know different places call things different names.  My husband is from the Cariboo, and they don't have salal at all in the interior.

  6. I had no idea Jason Dohring was so buff.  But I will take all the eye candy I can get.  Between Major and the spray tan scene, it was a good looking episode.  Also, is anyone else getting a pop up message saying "you are not allowed to like this users content"?  It happened to me for 2 people, but not for a third.  and my like counted on their account, so I'm not sure what's going on.

Oh my God, it just hit me. This season was filmed last winter and spring.

I live in the PNW. Between October and May it barely stopped raining. We had our annual rainfall amount by the end of February. We were trying to get our house ready to sell and couldn't find two consecutive days where it didn't rain. I don't mean sunny days -- I mean where it didn't rain.

Vancouver Island gets MORE rain than we do.

This may be a season of sitting in shelters wishing they could fish.

I was just saying to my husband, that this has been one of the worst winters in about 10 years here.  We live in the southwest corner of BC, so what we got, they got, and it also snowed A LOT this year.  I was in a house and I was depressed and sad this winter because it was so horrible.

  8. So they're back on Vancouver Island, correct?  I may watch this just out of sangfroid.  Or Schadenfreude.  This winter was one of the worst for snow and cold that we have had in a very long time here in BC.  Should be interesting.  People may last longer with another person, but they also may quit because of the weather.  I'll give it a go.

  9. This commercial makes me want to kill something.  It is on every time I turn on the damn TV.

    It is the worst.

I also currently hate the Viagra commercial on Canadian stations.  I was under the impression that it wasn't legal to advertise prescription medication on tv, but I keep seeing this commercial.  Some weird guy standing in line at the pharmacist, and when he gets his bag, says "this isn't Viagra, I really wanted Viagra, could you change this for Viagra, Viagra is the best....." and the guy behind him in line is all  "Hmmm, I've always wanted to know about Viagra.."  All in all they say Viagra about 8 billion times, and I hate this commercial.

I am really starting to hate the character of Alice's brother.  She keeps saying that he's impressionable and laughs off some of his immature actions, but, really, he has to be mid-thirties to forties, right?  If so, he is just an immature man-child.

    Quote

I've always assumed Margot was in her late thirties. Surely Rhys is her older brother and like Ben, he's in his mid to late forties. I assumed that was part of their dynamic- she was the kid sister Rhys didn't want hanging around however his best friend insisted. One more layer of jealousy on their massive sibling dysfunction.

In the second show, Alice was talking to Ben in the kitchen and referred to Tommy as a "35 year old man-child", so Alice is in her late 30's, and when Rhys was talking to Tommy he talked about having a "something" (I don't remember what it was) older sister in common.  Whatever age Rhys is supposed to be, I'm pretty sure Margot is supposed to be older than him.

  11. Clive was asking who got the 17 cures, my thoughts are that it should be the child zombies.  They have fewer memories to lose, and if they stay zombies, they will be children forever, which is harder to hide than an adult that lives forever.  Adults have more freedom of movement.  As long as there are people there to support them once the memories are gone, it should be fine.

  12. I haven't watched this series for several years.  I gave up on it when that Pelant guy just kept coming back over and over again, in such fantastical ways. Stumbled across it today while channel surfing.  What the hell happened to Eric Millegan?  He looks like a weird combination of a baby and an old guy.  Also, is Emily Deschanel pregnant again.  She looks puffy.  And when did Hodgins get paralyzed?  I don't really know whats going on here.  Anyway, the  guy who plays Aristoo is still really hot, so I guess there is that.

  13. God, that Oak Island thing.  Makes me crazy when my husband watches it.  Ominous voiceover "what will they find at the bottom of the shaft? Dun dun duh....?"  and I'm in the kitchen shouting "Nothing!  They never find anything!"  It's like watching Geraldo look for that union guy's body over and over again.  But I am off topic.  I was very surprised that it was Callie leaving.  I was sure it was Dave being pulled for medical reasons for most of the show, and then they showed his can of dried fish and I wasn't so sure.  I never thought in a million years it would be Callie, especially after they showed her massive dinner the one night.  Her cabin was snug and organized, and actually looked like a home, and she was smiling away on the beach as the boat came in.  I don't really know what to think right now.

I suspect that the folks who are still out there in season 3 would have been fine on VI because they have legit skills and a legit mindset. Fowler would have found something other then bamboo to work with to build his shelter. And let's face it, the others have built very nice shelters using different materials. Their fire places would have been built in VI or Patagonia.

There are alders growing everywhere on the Island.  Basically the weed of the trees.  Anywhere there has been a clear cut, alders will take over in a couple of years.  Also salmon berry thickets.  Both plants, while not as straight as bamboo, are thin and bendable, so weaving a wall out of them wouldn't have been too difficult.  Also mosses and ferns are all over the place as well, so chinking material would have been readily available.  The only bad thing is the damp and cold.  Mostly the damp.  It just eats away your energy and will to live.

  15. I was sorry to see Greg go, I liked him.  I've never noticed that he had an accent though.  Just sounds like a regular guy to me.  I also really like Fowlers shelter, the walls in particular.  Like Callie's shelter, it looks snug.  Carleigh's is nice as well.  Megan's is uninspiring, as a good wind will most likely take it out.  Dave's has made no impression on me, apparently, as I can't even bring it to mind.  The thing I like about this season the most is that it doesn't rain as much, so they can be out and about doing things more.  It makes it more interesting to watch, and I think it's easier for the contestants to keep a positive mind set without constant damp and greyness.  Cold is easier to take when you aren't damp as well.  It makes a huge difference, even when dressed warmly.  We just went through a stretch here of below zero temperatures, and it was not a problem until it clouded over, warmed up and started raining.  Then you really feel it eating through your bones.

  16. I'm just hoping Fowler doesn't trip and impale himself on his fence.  What were those things they put in the pits in Vietnam?  Bungee sticks or something?  It's all I could envision when I saw his fence.  Hey, someone should dig a pit trap for the pigs.  Maybe leave out the bungee sticks though.  I can just see someone out wandering around to take a pee or something and falling in the pit.  I liked Callie's fire hearth though.  I couldn't tell, did she build a whole wall at the end of the shelter, or not?  I would have a whole wall there I think, and then fill in the top with bamboo so there was only one way in and out of the shelter.  Maybe a door as well.  I would also like a half wall at the front of the shelter, just to impede the hogs.  They don't have the best eyesight, and aren't really made for climbing things, so I think it would help a fair bit for security.

  17. Why didn't Megan pick the rose hips?  They can be dried and are a good source of vitamin c.  I also couldn't believe how lackadaisical (sp?) Zach was being with his axe and knife.  But then I remembered that the little blurb said he'd been 6 days without animal protein, so I figured he was kind of loopy and hangry, what with all the swearing and everything.

  18. So this is the 6th episode and this is the first time we find out Tyler has a brain injury.  My husband and I figured he did, its noticeable in his speech patterns, but they didn't think to mention it to the show people?  Also, it really makes me angry when people say "Fustrating, fustration, fustrated....."  I don't know why it bothers me so much, but it does.

I also have to add if anyone in my life acted the way Krystal does, they would not be in my life.  She is the most horrible person I've ever been exposed to.  I'm surprised someone hasn't decked her yet.

  19. My mom just phoned me, she's up visisting friends in Port McNeill, BC, near where the first 2 seasons were filmed.  She was very excited to tell me that everyone was talking about how a local woman, Megan Hanacek, is going to be in season 3.  They said she was gone all summer, and won't talk about it at all.  So they don't know who won, or even how long she lasted.  She has a different last name on the show as she is married, but my mom couldn't remember it.  It's kind of cool, because her dad was my grade nine math teacher, way back in 1982.

  20. It is wonderful that you guys do these articles, but is there anyway that you can host versions of the video that will play in Canada? A lot of us up here want to see it too. I just can't seem to stay up late enough to watch them real time, but never get to see them on your site.
