As you stated, Carrie was a terrible friend most of the time and was NEVER called out for it. I thought Miranda should’ve either cursed Carrie out or decked her in the jaw for Carrie’s childish, snide comments about Miranda going to therapy in Season 2....”I get why you go to therapy because...you’re, you know, always in your head. But I’m fine, I’m functioning.” That was nauseating to watch, and very condescending

You have to remember, mental health and shrinks were a lot more stigmatized back then than they are today. Carrie didn't mean anything bad by her comment, if you watched the show it was obvious Miranda had a lot of unresolved anger issues towards the opposite sex.

Just one example is her inability to say "I love you" to anyone until the final season.

  2. I liked the episode but hated it at the same time. I can't believe the hands from the promos ended up being Gilbert with another girl 😣 . The entire episode was so sad. Gilbert and Anne were low-key fighting again, and on the train when he said he's "taken notice" of the fact that Anne doesnt need him, was that a reference to the first episodes take notice scene showing that he's mad about that?? I was happy to see Cole again though.

I was watching old episodes on Amazon.  I don't understand how it did not become a big deal when Samantha essentially gives Richard a public blow job in his office.  The guy's office had glass walls.  They show many people walking around outside the office who would have had a direct view of the office interior and could see exactly what Samantha was doing.  It was almost shocking at how indiscreet they were being.

Richard was the owner of the company, the boss. What were the employees going to do? Revolt?

Ratings were terrible anyway, so I don't think this series will be around very long.  It sure got a lot of promotion though.

Just FYI, from the 12 new shows that premiered this week, The Unicorn actually had the highest amount of ratings. 6 million viewers. So while it might not seem like a lot, it still did the best out of all recent pilots.

Also, Walter Goggins is listed as a producer so perhaps some of the experiences are from what happened in real life.

    True.

He had this to say during his recent interview:

    Quote

"The opportunities I've been given over the course of my career, more often than not I've been able to kind of hide behind something," he said. "But 'The Unicorn' is me. That's the relationship I have with my son, with my wife, with our group of friends. What these people go through on the show is what I have to go through getting out of the house.

That is definitely an indicator.  It looks like the romantic angle is really pulling them in.  I wonder if the young viewers are mostly from North America or international.

It's very international.  (makes sense because the books are well-regarded worldwide)

The actress playing Anne talked about it here at 1:38

I doubt this show would be considered popular among teens, but I can see a subset of tweens (maybe between the ages of 9 and 11) who started to watch this show maybe with their families two years ago, and then now still watching the show into their early teens.  With more romantic entanglements into the third season, I can see this audience staying hooked on the show until the end as they grow up with the cast.

You can tell the show has lots of young viewers because of the incredibly high amount of edits/cracks made about the series and the huge amount of views they pull in.

    760 000 views

    450 000 views

    240 000 views

And there are lots more where that came from.

They finally gave a little bit of a follow-up in the episode with Violet last season. Marjorie said that she still doesn’t have a relationship with him and she’s hoping that one day he’ll forgive her.

This is true and Jill urged her to go and try to work out their differences before she dies. That could be a storyline for her.

Then you wonder why Wu was so upset the show was renewed. You can tell she is tired of playing the character and the other characters are tired of it too. Yeah, ABC, let the show die.

I'm pretty sure this is the last season. At least this way they can end the show with Eddie going off to college, which would be fitting.

  10. I'm on these "young fans" you describe. I have read all of the books. Multiple times. But when discussing the show, I am not going to constantly compare it to the source material, because the fact is, the series took many artistic liberties. The expansion of the world is a real joy to watch, but it also gives less reason to reference the books, since with the many changes it is harder to predict what will actually happen.

What, she only gets one? That's it? If your writers can't think up any new material for your characters, you need new writers.

What do you mean "she only gets one". I listed 3 very distinct and important storylines with Marjorie in my comment. That is more than 1.  She had a lot of focus on her but there is only so much you can do. And obviously, she will not get the same focus as Bonnie who is a main character.

As for Wendy being an archetype, she is very obviously the Jerry of the show (from parks and recreation). The part of the friend group who is often dismissed & the butt of the joke. That is what she is there for, so I don't think that will change.

This episode seems to forget all of that. I know asking for continuity in sitcoms isn't worth it, even in 2019, but this feels like one of the rare sitcoms that would actually care about something like that. Violet is portrayed in this episode as someone that hasn't talked to Christy in years and has only heard about how she's doing from being on the phone with Bonnie. Violet should be one of the first people to know how much Christy has improved her life. She had already been sober for a considerable amount of time when Violet left the house. The episode treats it like Christy was still a raging alcoholic and drug addict before Violet left, and this is the first time the two are having a conversation with each other after Christy got clean. It completely disregards what "Sawdust and Brisket" did to tell this story, when it didn't need to be told

But the thing is, it completely doesn't matter what kind of improvements Christie made. In fact, it is 100% totally irrelevant. She still ruined Violet's childhood which has huge consequences for the rest of her life. As someone who experienced very similiar issues to Violet, I completely understand where she was coming from. Like who cares if Christie is now sober? Why couldn't she do it while Violet was a kid?

It's like Daniel... I mean Oliver with: "I'm so poor, I want to do another get rich quick scheme that ALWAYS backfires on me." "Because I'm Oliver who is so smart, but yet so stupid at times on common sense and learning from my mistakes."

From what I remember, when Oliver plots to get money in creative ways, his plans actually always work out. It's just that when his parents discover what he has been up to, he is forced to return / give up the money or stop the project. Like, he successfully made friends with Spencer, he had that fake phone location business, and selling the off-brand shirts. All were successes to a point until the parents interfered.

I definitely thought Janet was out of character, being irritated by being asked to do things, and generally getting grouchy.

I would say she was out of character, but not in a good way. They are just showing her evolution into being more like a normal person but thanks no thanks, we don't want to see it.

Honey was pregnant last season but I don't think gave birth yet by the season finale.

Was the actress pregnant in real life so they wrote it in? Otherwise, I thought it was a strange storyline since Maria was just born a short time ago and there's so much potential stories instead of another pregnancy.

It was mentioned last season that Honey became pregnant again surprisingly early after giving birth. It happened in the episode where Honey and Louis try to get fit.
