  1.  I’m going to have to disagree with that. You can be the strongest woman on the planet, that doesn’t change the fact that we live in a very patriarchal society. Women need male allies. Women need female allies. We all need each other. I think that is what Janet was saying.

At the IC, I don't think he did his spiel about Lairo seeing the new Vokai tribe for the first time, with Jason voted out, blah, blah blah.

I imagine he probably said it at the Reward Challenge that was edited out.  (I'm assuming there was one that we just didn't see. Probably to make time for the almost 30 min TC.)

And I don't agree with Janet 1 iota.  Women don't need a man's permission or approval or "support" to be powerful.  Hahahahhahaa!  Fuck that!  The more women realize that, the more powerful they will become.  Oh, Janet.  Her comments were absolutely in the opposite of the spirit of what #MeToo intends, I think.

I don't think that's what Janet said.  She said that in order for women to be strong, they need support from everybody, both men and women.  Then she talked about seeing people as individuals.  I'm paraphrasing, of course, but she definitely never said that women need permission or approval from men in order to be powerful.  Also, while the #MeToo movement was mentioned last night, I don't think that's specifically what Janet was discussing. #MeToo is about sexual harassment and has nothing much to do with what went down last night.  I think it was just mentioned at TC as an example of how women's issues are being discussed more openly now.

I agree about Jack being on the jury, before he's had a chance to meet everyone.

I'm confused.  He made the jury but he didn't make the merge so...is he dateable?

Oh, you want to get into #metoo, Survivor -- let's talk Sue Hawk on All Stars?

Ugh.  Still bothers me SO MUCH that there were no repercussions to that.

  4. I'll have to respectfully disagree on that one.  Given how unpredictable things are and how quick things change in Survivor, I think it's an idiotic move for anyone to throw a challenge ever.  They can't assume that the original tribes are going to get back together after the merge, not knowing who has formed new and possibly stronger bonds with other people.

This would discourage tanking in challenges.

I don't think that's really an issue.  How many times in the history of the show has a tribe ever purposely lost a challenge?  It's happened so very rarely, I don't think there's any real need to make any changes.

I was disappointed that they had so much damn filler in the episode, and then they rushed through Natalie and Andrew being able to talk and thank people etc. and then the group shot at the end.  Seriously, the pacing and direction was way off.

Agreed.  Everything seemed to have an element of awkwardness to it.  Like Ron telling Sheldon & Kaitlyn to take their victory lap around the rink while he was talking to Natalie and Andrew.  Maybe the viewers would like to hear what Natalie and Andrew have to say AND see Sheldon & Kaitlyn celebrate with the trophy?  And the group hug at the end seemed so forced.  Plus, the staging (is that the right word?) was awful.  Every shot had full sections of empty seats.  I'm sure it was just the camera angles but it made it seem like hardly anyone was there.  I don't know.  I still enjoy the show a lot but I agree that, for some reason, I wasn't as into it this season as in past seasons.

"Let it roll off my shoulders for my own social mobility" says Jamal.  Is English his first language?

Yes. I’d put him up there with Zeke as one of the most eloquent people to be on the show.

Am I the only one who cannot keep straight who was old Vokai and old Lairo?? Heck, I don't even know who is on the current tribes. My head is spinning after reading the strategies from old and new tribes.

Same. I seem to have this issue almost every season. I’m too busy trying to learn everybody’s names (or trying to notice that they’re even there) to remember who is on which tribe. Then they always do a tribe swap and start talking about the old and new whatever tribe and I’m just lost.  Sadly, the Tribe Tracker thread is no help to me because I can’t place the names mentioned there with the actual faces while I’m watching the show. Unless maybe I had the thread open and kept pausing the show to read then possibly.

Meh...I’ll just wait for the merge. 🤷‍♀️

No but it's an almost impossible burden to read someone else's mind about what they might find hurtful.  Jack saw Jamal starting to pick up a hot pan handle with his bare hand and quickly told him to uses his durag as a pot holder so he wouldn't be burned.  He was being kind.

I wasn't referring to Jack.  Jack handled the situation perfectly.  He's a good egg. I was referring to the people I previously mentioned, the ones who refuse to listen and automatically tell the other person they are being overly sensitive or a snowflake, etc.  The people who, even knowing they have hurt someone, don't care and continue to do the same thing because they think it's no big deal.

Because people in general are nice people who go out of their way to avoid saying offensive/insensitive things in the first place, and get upset with themselves when they realize they’ve said something hurtful to another, maybe...?

Yeah, I'm not talking about those people.  I'm talking about the people like I mentioned above.  The people who unintentionally say something offensive and, when it is pointed out to them, they get annoyed and completely blow off the other person's feelings simply because they don't think it's offensive.  These people are not embarrassed or upset with themselves.

Wasn't there a "clue in the bottle of soda" that someone recently missed?  Didn't see it at all and someone else later got the bottle and got the clue?  Or am I making this up?

This sounded so familiar but I couldn't remember it either so I relied on my old friend Google.  It happened in Worlds Apart.  According to the article I found:

    Quote

During the fun reward trip, lucky Joe noticed an Immunity clue in Carolyn’s soda bottle – as she drank from it! Ever so sly, Joe convinced Carol to give him the rest of the soda because he was still thirsty. Clueless Carol offered him her half-empty bottle. But as Joe drank the soda in order to half-way swallow the clue, rival Tyler caught him. Back on the beach, Joe and Tyler searched for the Immunity idol, but suspicious Mike followed them. Cornering Tyler, Mike was given the Immunity clue! D’oh!

But, to not immediately accept Jack's apology and make such a huge deal of it was a bad look, IMHO.

I thought Jamal did immediately accept his apology, didn't he?  Then he said he needed some more time to process it before they discussed it in more detail.  In any case, both Jack and Jamal both thought that the comment was inappropriate and, in my opinion, both of them handled the situation with grace. That could have gotten really ugly, depending on the personalities of the people involved.

He has a great physique but looks-wise ... not so much.

Ditto.  Maybe he's just not my type? I can certainly see how people find him attractive but I definitely don't see the drool-worthiness. Then again, unless you're Keanu Reeves, you're not drool-worthy in my books. 😉

  12. LMAO at the memory of the "cloth of spaghetti"!  That was the nastiest reward in the entire history of the show.

Tom joked about getting beat by a girl in something.  If that passes as "sexist" for a 60 year old, former hockey player, I don't know what to say.

It's not that it passes as sexist, it's literally the definition of sexist.

I did the same with Red Robin.  About fifteen years ago there were none locally and the closest one was about a 45 minute drive.  So every so often I would hop in the car and drive up there just for that.

I once drove 2 hours and crossed the border into the U.S. for the sole purpose of going to The Cheesecake Factory.  I REGRET NOTHING!

You can still compare basic skating technique and Sheldon and Bruno have transformed themselves into figure skaters and Natalie still skates like a hockey player, and I wish someone would have said that to her at least once

Very true on all counts.  I was thinking of other elements like the lifts and the throws.

I missed Elladj, they could give him his own tv show and I would watch it every week.

I love that guy!  I've never heard of him before but I would totally watch that tv show too.

I'm rooting for either Sheldon or Natalie to win.  As good as they are, I just can't seem to warm to Bruno & Katia.

  14. Hi gang!  I'm late to the party because life has kept me busy but I finally got a chance to binge-watch the season so I'm all caught up now.

I'm so psyched this show is back!  I went to quite a few tapings in the first two seasons and it was always a blast.

I'm not surprised (or the least bit sad) that Amanda Kessel was eliminated first.  She would have had to skate perfectly for the judges because no way are most Canadian hockey fans going to vote for her.  The wounds are still too fresh lol.

Sheldon Kennedy is my sentimental favourite but I'm really loving Natalie too.  She just always seems to be having so much fun.  That being said, I'm having the same issue I had in the season where Tessa competed.  It's really difficult to compare her to the male hockey players because the moves for male and female figure skaters are different so it's like trying to compare apples and oranges.

Colby Armstrong turned out to be a delightful surprise.  Yeah, some of the stuff he says doesn't always make sense but he's just so damn enthusiastic about it all.  I'm glad they kept him around.  (I'm also impressed that they actually listened to what the fans wanted and changed the scoring back to the 6.0 format.)

Sorry for all the random thoughts, I just watched the entire season at once so it's all jumbled up in my head. Looking forward to watching live!

She said in interviews there was no showmance, nothing ever happened, and she is upset that she got this edit if going out due to a showmance.

She can be as upset as she wants to be but that is exactly the reason she was voted out. Even if it's true that there was no actual showmance, perception is reality, and we clearly saw the footage of them cuddled up together when they were sleeping.  I distinctly remember that was one of the things Boston Rob said after his win - pay attention to who is sleeping next to each other because those are the real alliances you need to watch out for.  As a self-proclaimed superfan, she should have known better.
