  1. This was the perfect mix of drama, humour and genuinely sad moments. And yeah, Leopold and the Ringu devouring each other was hilarious, but it also made sense, because if they represent Fitzsimmons base emotions, naturally the most basic of them is them lustig after each other.

So many call-backs, too. It was the kind of the episode you can only do if you build your show carefully.

Easily the best of the season so far. But then, so "very special" episodes are always the best.

  2. It's not harmful at all to express concern in that manner. It is annoying, but it is annoying out of a reflex in which the person on the receiving end doesn't want to admit that the statement is right.

Or, to put it differently, there is a difference between a parent saying "you need to diet because you are ugly" and a parent saying "you really need to eat more salat, it's good for your health".

  3. The "eat more salat" line is for me more funny because it is such a motherly thing to say. It's not mean, it is expressing worry for his health.

Honestly, if anyone was overly the butt of jokes it was Ant-man. And the jokes weren't even all that funny. I mean, the taco joke was, but it went on too long, and it would have improved the pacing of the movie considerably to cut it. Using Scott as some sort of guinea pig was irresponsible and dangerous. Rocket being all condescending to him made zero sense, especially since for all the "I'll show you space" talk the ONE character in the line-up which never went to space in the movie is Scott.

  4. It is too bad that the Bucky and Sam show won't involve Steve and Natasha. Because someone on twitter pointed out that Steve, Bucky and Sam are representative for each war the US fought: Steve is the soldier who fought out of patriotism in a war which got glorified, Bucky is the soldier who was forced to fight in a war which was condemned, and Sam is the forgotten soldier in a war most americans don't want to really think about. I would add Natasha into the mix, standing for the cold war of ideologies.

It's a pretty interesting dynamic which would have been worth to being explored further.

Btw, is it me or does it seem like they are hesitant to step past Endgame? I mean, the shows are apparently all set beforehand. The Black Widow movie will be set beforehand. There is a pretty high likelihood that the second Captain Marvel movie might be set beforehand. If they announce that Shang-Chi and/or Eternals is set earlier in the timeline, I wouldn't be surprised.

  5. I don't really see a problem with Thor in Endgame...he is depressed and the "you are human just like everyone else" is a pretty good message. I see a problem with an audience which would laugh about a depressed man, but the way it is framed in Endgame is mostly more serious.

Count me in as someone who did not watch Avatar in theatres. I saw Titanic two times, but Avatar, yeah, nope. I tried to watch it once when it turned up on free TV but, well, it boooooored me. And disgusted me.

  6. Avatar has a bad case of the white saviour trope - and I say that as someone who would defend The Last Samurai in this regard. But Avatar, everything about the story disgusts me.

Anyway, not sure if they will even release it in my country. If they do, I can still decide.

  7. I noticed that the Netflix shows were at their best when they were doing something which was more or less pulled from the comics. The moment they had to come up with their own stories, the floundered, hard. The exception of Iron Fist....there it was kind of the other way around, the show was at its best the further it went away from the original stories. I guess partly because they didn't have the budget to do them justice anyway.

Lee Pace would have made for a far better Namor than Ronan.

But he was great as Ronan. (I really like Ronan as a character).

Watching that honest trailer makes me feel bad for the MCU movie that breaks the streak and ends up being both a financial and critical failure

A financial failure won't happen anytime soon. A critical failure...possible. But I wouldn't bet on the next phase bringing the downfall of the MCU. Why should it? I know it feels as if they built for 10 years towards endgame but as the honest trailer pointed out, not really. And if anything they have gotten better in keeping the balance of letting directors have their own voice while still fitting everything into the universe.

  9. Yeah, the Anti-SJW have been howling about it for two days now. I don't think that anyone takes the MTV awards all that seriously, but Brie taking her stunt woman on stage and just giving them the microphone and let THEM hold the speech instead of simply thanking them was awesome.

  10. Nobody is talking about Avatar, period. It was a fad and went away pretty quickly for such a supposed milestone.

Anyway, the criticism that you need to watch other movies to fully appreciate Endgame is pretty limp. It's like complaining that a comedy is funny or a horror movie is scary. Endgame is supposed to be that way. One can like it or not, but that's hardly a mark of quality.

  11. I think the issue is more that there has been a really high quality copy floating around the net since week 2. People who just wanted to rewatch didn't have to go to the theatre to figure out if there is really Howard the Duck in the finale battle.

  12. Adjusting for Inflation is imperfect...there are at least other five other aspects which influence the box office of any given movie: In which year it was released (older movies had less competition compared to newer ones), in how many markets and theatres it was shown (movies which were released between 1938 and 1945 had a harder time due to the war, China used to have less theatres and they don't allow all movies a release...they just allowed a release of Spirited away), how long it was in theatres (in the past movies stayed in theatres for years), what else was released around the same time (Endgame is already the highest grossing summer movie by far, which is impressive considering the level of competition) and the quality of the marketing.

It is, at the end of the day, a meaningless number...but it is still kind of fun.

  13. Honestly, based on the episode, I think BOTH were wrong. I don't think that Eton is a good place for, well, anyone, because it is too sheltered and upper class. Especially the heir to the throne would be better served in a school which offers a good education but also provides the opportunity to interact with somewhat "normal" people. The idea to send him at a place where he wouldn't be pampered quite so much is sound in my book. Except that the place which was picked fell more on the "abusive" side.

A talking head of Fox studied German. That's a bit alarming, is it not?

What exactly is alarming about that? Though I noticed that in none of the clips he is actually speaking and/or translating German.

  15. He is right. And I get the arguments against Impeachment. I am actually pretty sure that the Senate won't impeach, which will sent a terrible signal. But I agree with him that not even trying is sending an even worse signal. It is bad enough that one political party is abandoning democracy, the other shouldn't follow suit just because of the effect impeachment had on Clinton's popularity. That was different. Mainly because it genuinely was a witch hunt. Trump on the other hand is openly breaking the law AND bragging about it in public. If he doesn't get impeached, no president ever will. Which would give all of them carte blanche.
