I am older, so I see these ladies as daughters more than peers.  My son is exactly Gina's age , and he is a trained athlete who went to school on a sports scholarship.  Due to anxiety, his weight dropped to levels close to Gina's.  The doc had a real problem with it.  Not because he was currently unhealthy but because he was in a position that if anything did cause him to lose weight (like....say.....Covid) he would then be high risk.  So, while I admire her obvious commitment to low calories and high exercise, I would love to see her with just a titch more weight - not in a body judging way, but as a mother who has been there.

I totally get this. My 17yo grandson is an elite level baseball player. He's 6-2", 148#, no signs of growth stoppage...he's a skin covered stick. 38" inseam. However, he's had about 1/2 a dozen colds in his life. He eats whatever you put in front of him, usually two portions. Never passes up a snack. Some people are just built that way. Any doctor would say he's underweight...by the charts that's true...His cousin, same age by 3 weeks...is also 6'2"...weighs about 30# more, same 38" inseam...very dense body...grandson is a flyweight.

Well the Cowboys are done for the season.  The playoffs have been a snoozefest with the expected (except Dallas) teams winning.

Hopefully the Steelers can pull off the ultimate shocker and upset the Chiefs.  Go Steelers!

My son-in-law was born in San Francisco so is a die hard 9-er fan. He married into a Packer household. Son spent the game yanking SIL's chain. The Cowboys were collateral damage here today.

  4. Sister Hilda was hysterical...and trying so hard not be obvious. I love that she presented her cake as well.

Lucille & Cyril look so good together. I love the interaction with Lucille & Phyllis. The gown was gorgeous. The little attendants were perfect.

The baby was most likely anamatronics. It was all very well done. Timothy was agog at the new things he's learning. Angela, Mai & Teddy are coming into their own.

Great episode. Particularly loved Cyril choosing Reggie as a best man. I get Lucille not wanting bridesmaids if they couldn't be her sisters. My sister & I stood up for each other...it was never officially discussed, it just was. Would've just been wrong any other way.

  5. Ah yes, the new variant...it's a virus, their job is to mutate. Every single cold we've ever had is a variant of the common cold virus. Wash your hands, keep them away from your face. The only way the virus gets in is through the nose and mouth. Someone needs to sneeze or cough on you or you get it on your hands and transmit it to your nose/mouth. Take extra Vit C +zinc and D3 to boost immunity. If you develop symptoms do a sinus wash (they're gross, but so effective) and gargle with warm salt water or listerine 2x daily. Drink warm liquids, stay hydrated. Stay smart, stay aware.

  6. The 'office celebration' parts were sort of corny, but from a medical standpoint this episode was outstanding. Dr. Lee did identify the growth near the nose as a cancer immediately. And that it needed to go NOW. Loved the closing she devised for that gaping facial wound...The shoulder lipoma seemed like it should have weighed in at more than 1.4#, very cute couple...Jaw cyst guy looked great after...his son was so cute. Head cyst was into the pretense of the dialog...he tried, but no sale.

Dr. Lee's dad is the cutest thing I've seen a long time. I don't think she planned to get teary-eyed. I enjoyed seeing Dr. Song & her family. FYI dermatologists rarely go into the OR...most of their stuff is office based. She may have very limited experience in an OR setting...Dr. Lee may have been trying to play her "Scroogy" part...but it was a little snarky.

Looks have always been a bonus to me...same with DCC...some are stunning (Rachel), but she's not beautiful to me...Lea just sparkles with enthusiasm & joy...that makes her so much more beautiful than the Barbie Girls...

My late hubby never thought he was particularly attractive...serious ugly duckling vibes...he'd been heavy as a child and bullied for it...as an adult, the chubby was gone, replaced with muscle..he sparkled...drew people to him in hoards. And he chose me...average-ish with some really good days. I always thought he looked like a million bucks.

    The point: don't be shallow

I really enjoyed this. Getting to see the moments when all the midwives arrived at NH again. I’d forgotten that Chummy “barely squeaked through” when qualifying. They touched on many monumental moments and could have gone on for another hour!

I totally agree...Therefore, at some point you will find me binge watching the series from the beginning...sooner rather than later. And be done hopefully before the Christmas special...

  9. TK works for DCC, so she's never gotten over being DCC and still wants the glory. Madeline's mom grew up and moved on. DCC is just something she did and is proud of her daughter for wanting it too...there is life beyond DCC...

I mentioned above "nerves make you clueless"...as well, it's mentioned often enough they are going for a squad of 36, but have no problem taking less. That's another reason not to get excited when the number hits 36. Loved the announcement. I want Kitty back on camera.

Kleine's fiancé is adorable...yes, he looks young, but it's not as uncommon in the South to marry young. We'll see how this plays out.

Lea is now my favorite rookie...the simple change in hair has upped her look...She's not a glamor girl like some of the others, She has that 'girl next door' appeal. And her dancing is spot on. That rental actually looks like an upscale duplex/townhouse, so perhaps half that exterior is theirs. I am a bit curious to know who pays for it.

Gina has developed excellent leadership skills. She's grown so much since her snotty first season. Lexie looked fabulous leading her side of the double triangle. Kelee reminds me of Robyn, who spent a long time on my favorites list.

Overall a good season. Perhaps next season we can be back in the studio.

So considering Ava was pulled from the field and did not return, and her absence meant there were 36 left...wouldn't every single one of them figure out they made the team before the big jumbotron announcement was made?

    Nerves can make you clueless...

I mean there's not really any way to know what his function level will be until he's a little older.

The infant playing "Robert", while obviously Down's, is awake and very alert. The altertness is a strong sign for high function. I've seen many Down's infants...the degrees of difference is staggering. Little Robert may be just fine in the long run.

Haha…I have two nephews (one 20, one 22) who could give him a run in the skinny sweepstakes.

My 6'2" 17yo grandson weighs just under 145#...there is no sign of growth stoppage. Tim's 'exit interview' with Miss Higgins is priceless...especially the handling of lab specimens "with one notable exception". She shows every faith that Tim will be a huge success in his future. I'd like to know more about Miss Higgins, hope her story unfolds over the next few seasons.

I'm loving Sr Frances more & more every episode. She's developing an active social concious. I can see the Turners caring for Collette for the short term...or Nonnatus House taking her in themselves. There is always someone home...

Looking fwd to Cyril & Lucille's wedding.

Little Robert is not profoundly disabled. He will be very similar to Reggie's function level. They had to really look to see if it was indeed Down's. It does very often take a few days after the birth trauma look to recede and really see...wasn't thrilled that they used the straight palmar crease as a sign...I have straight creases, as does the skinny grandson mentioned above...it's a familial trait for us. Sylvia had the cup her sister gave her engraved with his new name and returned it as a gesture of apology & acceptance.

I have CTM set to record. My schedule for next week is the "Special Delivery" episode...check your listings.

  13. I'm loving Sr Frances' personal growth! She's so open & willing. And discovering her courage in every situation.

Nancy is a bit of a loose cannon. She may settle down and get her career moving. She'll have choices to make.

This first donation from HotWidower is a way to get in the door, so to speak...He'll come back to donate more, always in person and always look for the opportunity to see Trixie. He's only been widowed about six months. Historically speaking, widowers tend to remarry long before the women do...so perhaps early next season...if Trixie indeed accepts him...stay tuned

I thought they were heading towards an autism storyline.

Autism wasn't recognized in 1966...However, Dr. Turner & Sister Julienne are very forward thinkers, so wouldn't have written Elaine off as 'retarded'.

  15. Tim & Patrick were wonderful...and I liked the way Tim announced his presence as a "competent individual"...which he surely is, clothesline & pegs included! Miss Higgins seems pleased as well. Medical school is brutal...Tim will have some doubts that I hope we get to see played out...and he'll regain his confidence with Patrick & Shelagh's help, perhaps with a medical emergency he comes across by acccident and alone.

Baby Jonathan is a scene stealer if I ever saw one...loved the nanny interviews. Trixie was shocked at the one making googoo eyes at HotDad. Fortunately he was turned off...He's been widowed now for about six months...by the end of the season there might be some action.

I'm wondering if Miss Higgins has more experience in the adoption area than she lets on...I'm thinking she may confide in Nurse Crane...stay tuned!

Yeah but thats actually different. Being a pastor's wife means embracing his lifestyle - you can't have different opinions (in that you can't be disagreeing with his morals etc) and you really do have to spend a lot of time on his work in the community.  You really don't get to do your own thing work wise, you're "Pastor Herewood's wife" in the community and thats a big deal.

Not really. I think it explains why Trixie hasn't been on the prowl for a husband. She loved Tom and was sad to see it end. Then there was that dentist with all of his personal drama. She wants a partner in life, not a man child.

I'm good with it. Trixie has earned the fairytale ending and frankly she's pretty, bright, vivacious, why hasn't she found a man? She's actually heading towards old maid status at this point. I am not of the opinion that a woman must marry, I certainly haven't, but Trixie as a character clearly wants the husband and family and its odd that someone eminently dateable etc hasn't found someone.

But we must remember she was engaged to Tom Herewood early on...and discovered she wasn't cut out to be a minister's wife. She was very vocal about not giving up her own identity. Tom went on to marry Barbara, whose personality wasn't as extreme.

These older nuns also would've been in the prime of their careers during the Depression and WWII which would make for some interesting storylines comparing and contrasting with the more modern times of the mid 60's.

Phyllis was a either in the army as a field nurse or worked in a military hospital (or both)...it was mentioned early in her arriaval story. She'd have stories to make your hair curl...depending on if Nonnatus House was open during the war, and our familiar nurses were assigned there, they were very active in all nursing activities in Poplar. No one had a moment to themselves....

  19. I'm near San Francisco and we've been slammed by "cyclone bomb" storms since Saturday...and yesterday my tankless water heater went out...so guess who has been having to have the 'whore bath' for the last two days....Plumber came this morning, did a simple reset and we're good to go...Peggy Biggs should be an inspiration to us all!

As for Billy Gardell being the 'weak link' as an actor...I disagree...He's "everyman" in one form or another. All the other versions of whackadoodle play around him. Without his characters' stablility the shows wouldn't carry at all...
