  1. I recently heard my brother's partner describe him as "the most pessimistic person I have ever met", and I thought "Girl, have you met his mother???"   They have both been fretting, worrying little old women (yes, my brother), scared of their own shadows, as long as I have known them.  Everything is awful, the sky is falling, doomsday is nigh....

Then they wonder why I don't tell them anything about my life "Um, because you would tell me how dangerous is it?"

the wording of the warning was so humiliating, something about me having to click and acknowledge I did wrong, or I wouldn't be able to post here again

I got a warning that required an acknowledgement.   I refused, so I waited out a 1 year suspension and it disappeared.

In case you were all wondering why you didn't hear from me for 12 months.

  3. Grocery shopping has become horrible enough, as I try to balance cost vs convenience vs quality at the different grocery stores in my neighbourhood.  A national chain in Canada (all Canucks will know which one I mean), installed multiple self serve checkouts while leaving only 1 staffed checkout, maybe 2 at absolute peak times.  Now they have realized that facilitated theft, so they have installed locked gates, plexiglass barriers, locking cart wheels, receipt checks and security guards.   That wasn't enough, so they moved to limit the number of items at self serve checkouts, presumably because a full cart made it easier to hide unpaid items.  The kicker is that the signs say "25 items or less".   It's "fewer", you morons.  Fewer.

The downside to this is that you will never know if a person you reported for whatever reason has gotten a warning

I once reported an incredibly vicious, hateful personal message I received from another poster.  The moderator's response "Aw, Diddums, as your mommy taught you, when someone hurts your feelings you should just ignore them".  I'm unaware whether that poster received so much as a slap on the wrist, but I assume not since she subsequently was made a moderator.  So the "ignore" feature no longer worked.  Did you know you can't put moderators on "ignore"?

I've got three big red warnings on this site. I don't dare tell you about them but they're still in my profile.

High five, Sister Friend. I'm kind of proud of mine.   If you haven't got anything nice to say, come sit right here by me.

I was just scrolling through the 2014 ice dance comments and saw familiar names: quof

Damn, I've got to get a new hobby.

Actually, I have completely abandoned figure skating fandom.  I hate the "new" rules, and trends.  Get off my lawn.

I'm guessing his winning personality wasn't the attraction.

I've watched a few episodes of Milk Street and all of the chefs/presenters appear to either kiss his ass or cower in fear.

FYI - paracetamol is the same thing as Tylenol.

It's always a good idea to learn the generic rather than proprietary name of everyday products, especially when traveling. I had to find treatment for a sunburn in France, and frankly wouldn't have known what to look for at home because I'd never had a sunburn before.  It was a real test of my French vocabulary, and ultimately my charade skills, to get the most awesome ointment which I brought home and used on kitchen and other burns for many months.

I'm always astonished when travellers expect the rest of the world to be just like it is at home (then why travel???) I can't count the number of times I've heard American tourists (Not talking about anyone on this forum, just citing my lived experience) ask "What does this cost in real dollars?" and question why "TSA" in another country doesn't follow the same airport security rules as the United States Transportation Security Administration.

  9. I don't answer numbers I don't recognize, but I do answer "unknown callers" because I am dealing with a number of healthcare providers who call from their cellphones when they get a free minute in their day.  If I have to call them back, we usually end up playing phone tag.  My secret - I don't say anything when I answer.  If they are legitimate callers, they will say "Hello? Quof?" Spam callers might have my last name from a list, but never my first, so it's a good screener.  Robots just disconnect.
