  1. Clearly they completely forgot that Ian and Bonnet are acquainted. Ian wouldn't have to ask if Bonnet was there.
  2. This is so true. I can't tell you how my eyebrows rose to the ceiling when that pirate ship hove into view in Voyager. That book started so well and then suddenly it all went completely bonkers. TV series followed in much the same way. The last time I really enjoyed Outlander as much as in season one was episode 304, after those first four episodes the quality just plummeted (for me anyway). I did quite like 308 but that's it really. I do still watch but I just crave getting back to the standards of the first season.
  3. I haven't seen Supernatural or Christian Bale (don't watch much really) but clearly long term croaking is an option then.
  4. I do think they did a real disservice to Roger in season four and I say that as somebody who actually finds the Brianna/Roger partnership fairly tedious. Based on the way they played seasons two and three, with discord between Jamie and Claire on screen which was not in the books, I fear that they will use the same tactic with Roger and Jamie. Rather than Jamie coming to recognise Roger's good points there will be a whole season of Jamie still giving Roger side eye and despising his pathetic 20th century weakness. I can't call it about the hanging. It seems too big a plot point for them to leave out but is Richard Rankin going to be expected to croak all the time afterwards? That works on the page but in reality would become intensely irritating for both actor and viewer.
  5. I think the people that make this show like to refer back to the book when it's easy to do so. Stubborn is one of those words that Diana seems to like using to describe her characters. It doesn't apply in this situation but never mind that.
  6. To be fair to Richard Rankin I think they way he has been presented to us and the way they have dressed him since the very beginning really (although this season has been far worse) have seriously diminished him. I'm far from happy that Sam hasn't really been given Jamie's true character. There are so many times where Jamie's plans and solutions to problems are given to Claire in this production that I really feel for him. He must have thought, when cast in this role, that he was going to get to play a seriously impressive character, a brave, intelligent, funny, well educated individual but instead he is mostly, after the first few episodes, reduced to good looking brawn. Richard has been similarly badly served, in my opinion.
  7. I have lost count of the number of times I have watched season one although not The Search because, even then, I was fuming at the time being wasted. I was even more fed up when, as a result, there was no time for the 'ransoming' to play out properly and have Jamie and Claire back in tune before Dragonfly in Amber in season two. Of course, it became apparent as that season went on, TPTB wanted to explore the idea of PTSD so we had Jamie and Claire at odds with each other for ages. This season particularly seems to have entirely different production values. Poor green screen and CGI are taking us out of the story whilst, in direct opposition, the cabin is far too beautiful and well appointed to be even remotely believable. The lack of any visible tenants (bar the extremely accommodating Tom Burley) and stuff like feeding lovely fresh food to the animals is another anachronism too far. Whether the drop in values is down to Ron Moore now taking a back seat, the difficulties of trying to pretend to be North Carolina when you are actually in Scotland, or just budgetary restraint I don't know. I just know that I am sad about it because it was something so special and now is verging on the mediocre.
  8. I think that in the books Bonnet did have a gem in his mouth (the black diamond) but I can't be sure. I have a choking phobia so the idea of carrying anything around in my mouth long term brings me out in hives. I think that John and Fergus did meet in Jamaica. They might have been introduced at the ball but, if not, I am fairly sure that Fergus and Marsali go and alert Lord John after Jamie is arrested.
  9. Well if the show hadn't spent so long assassinating Roger's character then he wouldn't have needed his 'moment' of redemption. The 'whole gang' being there worked well enough in the books.
  10. Who is asking to see more trekking towards New York? In the book Jamie, Claire and Ian were there during the incident with the priest. Jamie had met Roger and was worrying about Claire and her wellbeing. They had been negotiating with the Mohawk. We could have had that couldn't we?
  11. I have just joined this forum because I am so angry with this episode and it is comforting to know that there are others out there who found it boring and a waste of what little remaining time they have - just one more episode. They did this in series three as well, although there I was very grateful for the time they took with the first four episodes, which I loved. Nonetheless the end of the series was a hot mess with everything being so rushed. Why did they waste so much time earlier on with Bree staggering around in the highlands and then Roger being dragged behind a horse (way to keep your new merchandise in good condition so you can get the best value out of him) only to keep in this horrible plotline with the priest. I couldn't agree more with those who have said "why have we seen so little of Ian". When I think how much I loved the first two series it makes me very sad. I love Jamie and Claire (well let's be honest I love Jamie and quite like Claire) so why are they missing in action from this episode and that one earlier in the season.
