  1. Apparently she still has two dorgis, Vulcan and Candy according to Wikipedia at this instant (the word would look better with an apostrophe, and if it weren't for the current conversation I would use one as I seem to remember it being an obscure but correct use of apostrophe, but I am chickenshit for some reason tonight).  A dorgi is a corgi/dachshund cross, first created when one of the Queen's corgis had an encounter with one of Margaret's dachshunds, IIRC.

  2. Season 23's fifth (Stephen Mangan, Johnny Vegas, Emilia Fox, Jess Glynne), sixth (Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, David Beckham, Vanessa Kirby), and final a.k.a. Complitation Special, have not been aired on BBCAmerica.  If past is prologue, these episodes will eventually show up, probably in season 24.  When the show was flirting with a deal with Harvey Weinstein, half of that season didn't go to BBCAmerica until after the deal fell through.

  3. There are chase/escort ships for the show as well as the ones we follow.  That's where many of those POVs from off the ships come from.  I believe the Time Bandit was one of those in the first season.

In one of The Bait episodes (Bering Sea Troubles, I think), they mentioned a guy who went overboard in 1999, from The Wizard.  They never found him, because, among other things, it takes several minutes to turn a boat as big as The Wizard around.

  4. Aaand this is the upcoming The Bait.  Discovery seems to be posting this one at the time of broadcast too, so I'll try to add the link then.

Wild Bill reacts to Summer Bay's man-overboard crisis; deckhands question captains' decisions, while captains give their takes on the worst ways to get injured at sea.

  5. And this didn't get posted at all... I'm blaming the heat.

Captains reveal how they battle a super-moon storm and share their secrets to surviving breakdowns at sea amidst destructive tidal surges; new co-captain Harry speaks out about the tension he's stirring up on the Wizard.

  6. Discovery seems to have reset early previews to the moment of the live broadcast; I'll update with a link when it is available.  And heeerrrreee'ssss the link!

Sig pushes Mandy to invade the Cornelia Marie's ground, sparking a battle; as the Cornelia Marie's pots get tangled with the Northwestern's, Casey takes extreme measures to defend his turf; a Saga distress signal sends panic across the fleet.

  7. Probably too exposed to the elements, and therefore it could be knocked loose and washed away, or even just degrade from the more direct exposure to saltwater.  The Saga took a wave earlier that knocked the coiler off its bolts - water is heavy (you can fire a bullet into a bucket full of water, and it won't penetrate the bottom - so a cop once told me), and waves are moving at high velocity.  And also you would want clear access - the area at the whatsis that pulls up the pots  is where this happened, and there is a lot of stuff there - hooking the ring on something would be easy.

Also, people can go overboard from any point, so central is best.

I'm just free-associating here; I'm sure there are good nautical reasons and Coast Guard regulations.

  8. Nicolle was probably the person who was available.  People take vacations, and to be fair to Rachel, the Manafort trial was supposed to start a week ago, and putting off a family vacation for work is bad work/life balance.

Besides, it looks like if this judge has his way the whole thing might be done by this weekend, and very possibly by the following weekend.  The politically "juicy" trial is in September.

  9. Well, I'm not terribly surprised. They were kind of running out of places to go (yes, I know, four continents left plus Antarctica), and they are, what, three years older than when the first series was filmed (which I believe was summer of 2015).  Second series was May/June 2017, and the world ain't quite what it used to be for travel....

Still, I really enjoyed the show, and I'm gonna miss 'em.

    Even The Sidekick.

  10. The Disco link is finally up here, if you miss the broadcast.

The captain, crew, and most especially the greenhorn of the Summer Bay are seriously lucky BAMFs.  For all the screwing around and attitude that makes it to the final edit of most episodes, this was straight up professional.

Rumor has it that a great-grandfather of mine used to pull on the steering wheel to try to make the car stop. I kind of doubt the veracity of this, but I suppose it’s the same sort of logic that would lead to slapping the car.

It was a tough transition for many people, horse-drawn vehicles to horses-under-the-hood.  There are lots of stories about people stomping on the floorboards, pulling back on the wheel, and screaming WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!

Learning curve - I have a similar issue with anti-lock brakes, as I was very carefully and successfully trained in how to get out of a skid in 1972, so this stomp on the brake pedal thing took me years to learn (if you stamp down on the brake and hold it, the computer will do the pumping for you, and much more efficiently than you ever could), and as for the new thing with all gear shifts returning to center after you make the magic moves, forget it.

The Office and Barefoot Contessa are two shows I will watch anytime, anywhere, over and over.

Show I wish I could find again, Burn Notice. I stopped watching about half way through the series and I can't find it anywhere now. "They're like doll clothes".

If you have Amazon Prime, Burn Notice seasons 0 (the fall of sam axe) through 7 are available.

  13. You will need to login with your internet provider at least through Tuesday, but here is the next episode.

A 150 year supermoon storm wreaks havoc on tides, churning undersea currents that rip pots right off their lines. The Coast Guard attempts a rescue mission in the heart of the storm, while Wild Bill faces his worst nightmare.

Every boat except the Wizard, plus an appearance from the Coast Guard.  And, since the following week is Shark Week, the episode ends

    Spoiler

unsurprisingly with the Summer Bay's Spencer going overboard in the final seconds, musically scored with ominous background music.

  14. According to Disco, Bering Sea Triangle was the sixth special episode of this season (apparently part of The Bait), and this is the real episode 13, which various online listings says airs on July 10.

It's baptism by fire aboard the Northwestern as Mandy takes her 1st shift in heavy seas. The Wizard crew battles over one crewman who isn't pulling his weight on deck. Caught short on bait gear & battered by high seas, Wild Bill changes his strategy.

    It's 4 in the a.m.  Why am I up?

  15. I don't watch the show any more!  A combination of not being able to find the movies in advance for several years plus realizing that I could "watch" an episode in less than five minutes because of all the FF....  Like the few soap operas I still "follow", it's all in the recap.  Oddly, I quit watching Army Wives for the same reason.  And I like Catherine Bell.

That admitted, I could make the argument both ways: next door to get some separation, or in the house and maintain the separation internally, as I think they wound up doing in her marriage to Jake and with an infant/toddler (those were especially the movies I kept missing).  Grey House has always seemed to be large, and the house next door was for father & son and therefore didn't need to be huge, so moving Cassie & daughter in could be a stretch.  They could even build some sort of breezeway between the two (enclosed, of course, because they are in Canada - yes, I know, somewhere in the Old Northwest (Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, or Wisconsin), but really Canada.  Near London, I would bet.).  Although, didn't the recaps tell me they were seriously considering living in that fab-to-die-for lake house?

Personally, I would vote for the better kitchen, every time, so Grey House for the win.

  16. The show is going to be on Lifetime and Lifetime Movie.  I use the online cable listings to look for when and where shows will be - tvschedule dot zap2it dot com lets me pick a channel line up by zip code and provider (or broadcast), and you can search for approximately two weeks in the future - for this one I search on the show and check all upcoming episodes.

I also have my cable company's listings - xfinity - which lets me see the schedule about three weeks in advance.

And as someone helpfully pointed out upthread, Amazon Prime has the complete series now, so I don't have to work out six-hour recordings on my old vcr, because somehow I don't think this will show up on demand....
