That's true.  I was just thinking in general.  Lorelai definitely has her prejudices.  But, I wouldn't say she never does anything for other people.  She did do most/all of the work opening up their inn and let Sookie slide.  I can't remember if they ever actually did it, but before it got messed up she was going to paint Luke's diner with him.  That's a pretty big project.  She helped Michel get little Davey out from under the bed.  Which was stupid.  If Davey fit under there, so would Michel's arm.  She let Lane and the band use the garage to practice in and they actually had to clean it out since they had apparently been using it as a dump.

I agree. Lorelai has done several things for various people (even trying with her parents), but the balance sheet skews towards most people doing stuff for her.

"Comic relief" characters presented a problem in tone for ASP, but Sookie especially so. One moment we're supposed to take her seriously, the next moment she's a cartoon.

I feel like Michel and Kirk were done rather well.  I also feel the same about Mrs Kim, Patty, and Babette.  But they are pretty much comic relief (you can argue Mrs Kim was not, but she always cracked me up bc I'm of asian descent).

I think the problem with Sookie was trying to make her a serious character and comic relief.

I never really got why Lorelai and Sookie were even friends. Lorelai is super quick witted and Sookie is, well...a bit slow to put it mildly.

Lots of times you make friends at work bc of all the time you spend together and for all they don't have in common, Sookie was very kind-hearted (especially to Rory).

I can see younger Lorelai hooking up with her bc she would be supportive and helpful.  Most of her friends were people who helped her rather than the other way around.

I think it’s more like both Elfo and Bean = Fry. It’s like they split him up into two different characters. Especially with the last two episodes revealing origin mysteries for them.

Possibly.  We have not finished the series.

I was just impressed that a 6 year old came up with the parallels spontaneously.

He saw a bit of Leela in Bean.

Wow. 14 is probably my favorite of what is left.

I think it's because if I were asleep all cuddly warm and someone dragged me out of bed so they could go on some narcissistic rant anthropomorphizing the weather, I'd want to shoot them.

I'm a pretty laid back (except at work) and positive person, but I need my sleep.

  5. Agreed.  Comparison makes six shine.

In fact, I dropped out of season five pretty close to the beginning and then just watched the last episode before season 6 started.  It was just so boring and tedious.

Everyone who said bad stuff about Badison echoes my thoughts.  That is the kind of character I loathe - the rando psycho.  It's lazy and irritating.

Wouldn't there also be the thing where Tastee committed a felony and that lead to someones death so it is considered murder. I'm no !awyer but is the link between her inciting the riot and Piscatella getting killed enough for her to be guilty of murder?

Felony Murder:  A rule that allows a killing that occurs in the course of a dangerous felony, even an accidental death, to be charged against the felon as first-degree murder.

I think the actress herself is pretty and I’ve seen her in interviews and she seems nice enough and more charismatic then she ever does as Daya. But Daya just adds nothing to the show and somehow ends up being a central part in the seasons arc a lot of the time.

I don't know about the actress (I'm sure all the folks in the show look better when they aren't dressed up and coiffed like jailbirds), but the character in this case always skeeved me out.  Kinda dumb, too naive, not particularly good-looking as to incite so much lust, etc.

the character Daya is.. so.. nothing that I’m always confused with people falling all over her. I don’t get it either. I think the writers just don’t know what to do with her at this point? She’s.. just kind of there for the most part.

I'm going to go as far as to say I've always found her kind of gross.  So, yeah...I don't get it, either.

Although better then the previous two seasons Season 6 of OITNB still suffers because it makes all the guards either evil or stupid while most of the inmates either violent or victims. There is very little middle ground or nuance.  The end to Taystee's trial was predictable.  It was so predictable that I could't even feel that bad for her.

I know Piper is a divisive character but if she is gone for good I think I might be too.  Except for season one which I found to be exceptionally entertaining this show has been average at best.  It got waaaaay to political in the last couple of seasons.  I liked everyone going to Max and even Ad Seg.  However Piper has always been my gateway to the show.  I like everyone else but she is the character I have the most attachment to.

If she is gone so am I.

So weird.  I've always seen her as one of the more annoying and least interesting of the characters.

I love the ep where Mrs. Kim helped Zack with his song writing. She really grew so much.

I always thought of it less as her growing (although she had to grow to accept the non-Korean boys) and more of it as no one gave her enough credit for having had experiences of her own (her own band, her own tour, getting the "knockers" joke, knowing the E string is flat, etc).

I can't even remember, did Sookie even contribute financially?

Yes. Remember in the episode where Lorelai says she can't come up with her share of the money for the inn?

I agree.  If Sookie just wanted kitchen time (and not the effort/responsibility and adventure of starting a new business), why not just become executive chef somewhere?

In fairness to Sookie, it was never going to be an equitable division of labor.  Lorelai is the one who knows how to run an inn, knows what you would need to make things successful and has actual experience in running a business.  Sookie has none of that.  I'm not saying Sookie's excuses were legitimate, but which part of the renovation and opening of the business would you really want Sookie in charge of handling?

    Yah, but

    1.  When you don't know enough to take initiative (or shoulder some of the burden of mental management - a job in its own right), then you should be volunteering to be in the trenches doing the stuff you can, even if it means being directed by the more knowledgeable person.  Not just check out and make excuses.

    2.  At the time Lorelai was upset about the sink, they were rebuilding/fixing up the inn.  I don't know about some inn-specific items that may have needed to be addressed in the build, but surely there were basic general contracting issues Sookie could have handled.

Or, you know, just show up, because if you own part of a business, you should learn the ins snd outs.  Npi.

I hate Sookie in that episode. She doesn't show up to okay the sink even though she was the one who insisted on it and when Lorelai shows up at her house and yes she's not even sorry about it and then tries to blame Michel for it and acts like Michel's the problem. Even though as Lorelai points out Michel has a job and neither of them would know how to okay the sink Sookie was the only one who could because she insisted on it.  Then Sookie goes on to say she wasn't suppose to do any of this stuff, that her part was after the inn. I mean, what the hell? She really thought it would be completely okay for Lorelai to do everything before then?  That her only part was running the kitchen? How is that fair? And that Lorelai would be okay with that plan?

I think it always rubs me the wrong way when someone effs up and instead of apologizing and trying to do better, they get defensive and lash back out.

Good for your 4 year old.  I don't.  I always get confused.  Especially if someone decides to throw in clockwise and counter-clockwise.  Besides, how would she know if turning it off would require tightening or loosening.

    Lol.  Touche.

Although by definition tightening a valve is shutting it off.

I think I'm touchy about this bc I hate the stereotype (or perpetuation of the stereotype) of the mechanically inept female.

Look pretty and read a book!
