  1. Did she take the wedding dress back to Leoch? I thought that they only, um, rented it. Because we never see it again even though we see bits and pieces of her other clothes showing up having been recycled into other garments.

Claire now has history of firmly telling someone something she believes to be true—and being wrong.

Medical things? How often is she wrong about that? Also, my recollection is that she isn't absolute about it. She has doubts but she doesn't want Mary to have to worry about something that is highly unlikely. It's a kindness, not a lie.

So I’ve only read the first book (I know I know, I need to get back to reading the rest in the next few months!), and admittedly have not read through this entire thread, but has there been any speculation on what the title of this book could mean?

There is a Scots/Irish custom that when major things happen in a household - births, deaths, etc - you have to  go tell the bees or they get mad and leave.  So that's what the title refers to.

I agree with you, toolazy. I watched her special on HBO (? I think) about her battle with breast cancer. I do admire her back story.

It was my early days on TWoP and it was so much fun watching those episodes and our snarkfests. It was better than Saturday morning cartoons!

I remember when I found the Semi-Ho forum on TWoP. I was like, "Finally I have found my people!"

Aw, too bad. If they were, I might, just *might*, have considered a subscription to Discovery +.

Yeah, I remember think at the time that the show was definitely now lacking in batshittery but going back now, it was still plenty batshit.

That said, I have a lot less personal animosity towards her than I had back then and even then, I mostly just hated what she did. She's had a pretty rough life, despite having been married to a super-rich guy and then spending several years in a relationship with the asshole governor of New York. Who turned out to be the scummiest of bags.  My personal theory is that she learned of his scumbagedness and that's why they split.

Just an update on the IMDb app - if you have Amazon Prime you can watch the shows listed on the IMDb app on your TV through the Prime app. I’ve been rewatching Warehouse 13 and the episodes show up and play. So far I haven’t even seen ads going through Prime. I haven’t tried movies yet, just Fringe & WH13. Oh, and I watched Caprica again. I slightly regret that now. My memory of it was better than reality. Lol. Anyway I’m loving the extra content available!

If you have an older Samsung SmartTV, you might not be able to watch this using the SmartHub.  I just got a Roku and IMDb works on my (circa 2015) teevee now.  It's glorious - there is all kinds of stuff on that app.

When she visited him in jail (where he was awaiting execution) she made the mistake of telling him that she was pregnant and even went so far as to suggest that the baby was his (which was a possibility given the short time between her wedding night with Roger and her being raped by Bonnet.)  Later (in the book) the Fraser/Wakefield family spots a birthmark on Jemmy's head, which is identical to a birthmark on Roger's head and Claire confirms that that particular kind of birthmark is hereditary, so all doubt is removed as to who fathered Jemmy.   Unfortunately, Bonnet doesn't know that and is unlikely to believe anything Breanna says on that subject.  So after he escapes hanging he develops a sick fantasy in his mind about setting up a happy family unit with Brianna and "their" son.

I can't remember the spoiler rules for this thread so I played it safe and hid everything.

Wasn't there something in the book about him selling her off to someone else? Another sea captain or something?

Just finished Written in My Own Hearts Blood, and am bothered by how the heck Bree and Roger and the children wind up in the correct time with Claire and Jamie at the end of the book. Roger and Buck went back to before Brian died..how did they all wind up at Fraser's Ridge 30 years later?

And this is the main reason I am anxious for Book 9 because it will, presumably, answer this mystery.

  9. I like early season 2 because I like watching Claire swan around Paris in fabulous clothes, but I also think that went on for maybe an episode or so too long.  I seem to recall being very relieved to be back in Scotland when they finally went home.

As for the structure of the second book and the second season, I think it was necessary to have the reveal at the beginning of the season because in the book, the knowledge that somehow, someway Claire winds up back in the 20th century with Jamie's daughter (who at the very first people assume is Faith until they start doing calendar math) and the mystery of how in the hell did this happen is suffused throughout Dragonfly in Amber.  And while it made the beginning of that book rough going, it really did enrich the story.

My life is a series of random thoughts about Outlander.  There, I've said it.

Today, a scene from Book 6 popped into my head unsolicited.  If you recall, Claire and fam attend the viewing of Hiram Crombie's mother-in-law, Mrs. Wilson.  Mishaps ensue - Hiram skimped on the services, Roger gets choked up on the sermon, Jem notices Mrs. Wilson isn't really dead, Mrs. Wilson sits up and chastises Hiram for being a miser, etc.  The death eater shows up, and Claire is taken aback.  He is a little deformed "as though he had been in a terrible car accident."  He speaks with an educated accent.  And, most importantly, his one working eye is the same color as Claire's, and she feels that she knows him, has seen him before, and that his "cruelly misshapen face" could replace her own.

    ...

It isn't like Herself to throw such a description out there without it meaning something larger.  The prequel about Jamie's parents is all well and good, but I want to know more about Claire's background.  We know how Brian and Ellen got together.  What about Claire's family?  How can she travel?  WHO WAS THE DEATH EATER?

Good catch so I just re-read that part. I never really thought they were related - I attributed her attack of the megrims to his overall creepiness. She described him as smelling of "pustulant sores and unhealed wounds."  So I sincerely hope he is not her relative.  If he is, time travel was a lot less kind to him than to her, and she hasn't exactly had a walk in the park.

I noticed annoying details like him just leaving the van in a spot that's only for things like dropping off deliveries so then I'm wondering if Pioneer Place now has valet service or something because even though I'm less than 10 minutes away, I haven't been downtown in a while. Then, the cutting back and forth between the MAX train and they're leaving downtown, but then they're suddenly back downtown again, still close to the Square. The editing was logistically wonky!

Film crews can get permits and special parking privledges.  I recall seeing a street in Inner Southeast where all of the parking was blocked off for Grimm.

During their season the drinking game was every time you heard "strippers" "strip club" or "disrepected me" you drink, then you pass out in three minutes.  Their drama was she went to a strip club for her bachelorette, he did not want her to go, she went and blamed her BFF, then drama with her Tourette's

Not sure about the Tourett's but I think most of the strip club drama was manufactured.

I'm sure this has been covered before but are they identical twins? Darcey's jawline appears to be much broader than Stacey's. In fact, this is how I always tell them appart. No doubt they've aggressively pursued the identical angle through plastic surgery.

My ex-husband had an identical twin and they really weren't identical, especially as they got older. The only time I had the least difficulty telling them apart is if they were far away. I think there are always slight differences.

When I heard the overall results of Angela's blood work from that doctor, I had to wince in disbelief!  Sorry, not disputing that "miracles can happen" but to hear those pristine results of this older woman who is grossly overweight, a drinker and a chain smoker begs my belief system.

I am older than Angela and also quite overweight. I had blood tests just last week that were fabulous. No sign of diabetes, etc.  I haven't had my cholesterol checked in a year or so but it was fine.  So it's not beyond the realm of possibility that her test results were okay, too.

They were cute at teens.  And as someone who had stick-straight hair that wouldn't hold a curl no matter what I did to it, I was always jealous of curls.

In Darcey's first season, Stacey showed up at some point and she was really, really pretty.  It made me sad to think that Darcey had been that pretty and then screwed up her face.  But I guess Stacey decided to fuck u[ her own face, too.

  16. The kittens didn't bother me because I thought they looked very fake.

My grandparents started dying when I was 3.  My two grandmothers died exactly a week apart when I was 7. I was living in New Orleans so you better believe open caskets are a thing.  I recall being more interested than upset about seeing them in their coffins. The only time I was bothered by an open casket was my dad's funeral because they did a terrible job on him.

We were with my mom when she died and we were able to spend time with her for several hours after while we waited for my brother to arrive at hospice.  She was cremated so we never had to see her artificially preserved in her coffin and I've always been grateful for that.

I am confused by the whole Asuelo trip to Portland. They meet the family at Pioneer Courthouse Square and then take the Max to the food cart pod. That particular pod is about a mile from my house. It is no where near a Max station. They would have to take a bus to get there. I love the fact they went to Halibuts. Their fish is like crack to my husband. Very expensive. $21 for halibut fish and chips but their clam chowder is to die for. Food cart pods are very big here and those tents are heated. The winter was very mild last year, so I don't know why they were so cold.

So do we know for a fact that they took the Max to the food cart pod and didn't catch rides in TLC vans?

Kalani and Asuelu: Why did they all meet at what seemed to be the Portland Central LRT station?

What's with the airbnb obsession on the show?  When family visits, they stay with family, right?   Nice hypocrisy from Mother Asuelu - it's fine for Kalani's family to pay for Kalani, but Asuelu needs to send money to her. Also if Kalani and Asuelu fly into Portland, get an airbnb in Portland, and visit with Asuelu's family in Portland, in what way are they visiting Washington?  Leave my state out of your drama!

I'm pretty sure the mom and sister live in Vancouver, WA, which is right across the Columbia River from Portland.  They met up with the mom and sister at Pioneer Square in downtown Portland - it's not just a light rail stop.  What I don't understand is why they didn't get an Airbnb in Vancouver to be closer to the folks.

  19. So I'm pretty sure that these two were in the Vancouver, WA area (or at least Clark County) because they flew into PDX, which is right across the river.*  I googled around and there is no dedicated Samoan grocery store in the Portland Metro area, but there are stores that carry some Samoan products.

I used to live in a house in Vancouver  with a great view of the river and the airport.

The reveal was cute, but Loren was obviously unhappy it was a boy, even being consoled by people. I thought that was very immature. I've never been impressed by her & that display didn't help. Also, Tourette's is much more common in boys than girls. I recall Alex saying how guilty they'd feel if their child were to have it. Hopefully there won't be any issues.

I disagree that it's immature to be sad that your kid has a greater chance of inheriting your disease.

Do courts allow boyfriends to legally adopt children? I’m asking because I genuinely don’t know. I guess Brad Pitt did. Tim allegedly dated Veronica a million years ago, broke up when her kid was still really little, but still acts as the child’s father all while he was pursuing another single mother of a very young child. And now reveals there’s another kid of another ex-girlfriend whom he is claiming to have adopted. I’m sorry, but I’m not impressed by Tim’s collection of girlfriends’ kids and wonder if he purposely pursues mothers of children who don’t have active fathers in their lives just so he can assume the role without any resistance. Call me suspicious, but I don’t find this man’s actions altruistic at all. Dude is weird AF!

Tim and Veronica were together for 11 or 12 years, which is plenty of time to develop a genuine relationship with Veronica's daughter.
