The Old World Amish (don't drive cars, women keep their hair covered, keep pretty much to themselves) do send their children to school until 8th grade, but they have their own one-room schools. They do not attend public school with "Europeans". The Old World community that I am familiar with is in rural Iowa, and years ago the state decided that the Amish children would attend public schools in town. The first day the bus came to take them to school, all the kids hid in the corn fields and threw corn ears at the bus. The incident made national headlines. The state then decided that they could still go to their own schools, but they must have credentialed teachers. So now "European" teachers are in all the small Amish schools. It is odd to me to see the teacher's cars parked next to the buildings, and the teachers wearing pants, but they have been doing this for many, many years now. I do not know what type of Amish live in the Rod's area, but if they are hanging out with Jill they must be a more worldly community.
I know the schools have to meet certain standards and that they have a school board. Most that I heard of have an in community teacher and assistant. They have to be approved by the board.

You are so kind to think this! 🥰
Add me to the No Thank You Club for Joan as the Golden Bach'ette. There's no personality there at all and all the fillers are horrible. I'm sure her bachelors will be younger than her, I just hope not too young. Really not interested in a cougar edition of this franchise.
i wasn't planning on watching but I might tune in for the first episode as I am curious what type of men they will have. I get a feeling there will be some much younger ones in the mix. Yea, Cougar Bachelorette.

The Amish have better taste. For that matter so does my parakeet.
Some Amish sects have lovely flowers and gardens. They can't take pride in them, but I think deep down they do.

This is just plain embarrassing. She must not have a single real friend on the planet telling her just “no”. I’m 57 so we’re pretty close in age and I would take a knife to the throat before I put this out there.
I turn 59 this year and while I'm not sitting in a rocking chair and I like to occasionally shop in the juniors department, I would NEVER do this. She looks silly.

Clearly, the intention here was just to boost the Bachelor franchise ratings. From pushing Theresa and Gerry into a shotgun wedding to picking an absurd representation of an older woman, this is just the same formula for shallow drama and failure that this show has deteriorated into.
Just when American women need most to be seen as serious, vital human beings with purpose and power and not just pretty faces to toss or reconstruct as we age, we get this. No thanks. I'm not buying.
You are right. Sure on GB, we saw women like Joan, but we also saw older women who looked good but didn't look like they were trying to be 25 again. Its a shame because I had really hope they would have a good representation of "golden" women. I still keep thinking what a lovely woman Ellen is, who looks "golden" and good.

I noticed there is a chair with a white fence around it. Huh? Then I saw a picture on another site and guess who is seated in that chair?

I'm going to be 60 next year and she is what 61? That isn't "golden" and I don't consider myself "golden". Why not a woman in her early 70s? Or at least late 60s?
I consider golden being retired and on Medicare!

That "garden" looks like a junkyard. What a mess!
Yes, the Amish go to school through 8th grade, boys and girls. And after they graduate, many will study or apprentice for their chosen field. YOu can't be an idiot and run a diary farm for example.

Do you follow his Facebook page? His kids and grandkids look just like him.
Yes, I do and yes, they do! I think his son looks like his wife, but his daughter has always looked just like him. She played "Anthony's" daughter in a Twilight Zone sequel to It's a Good Life.

It’s really wonderful. Chef Bludorn has 3 restaurants in Houston now — the original Bludorn where Rob Lough works, one called Navy in the Rice University area, and a new Bludorn Tavern in Memorial. Chef married Victoria Pappas of the Pappas restaurant family. Glad to know you’re in the beautiful Woodlands!
Enjoyed this first episode. Hoping Damaris fits in as a judge — I didn’t love her on the last baking competition where she judged, but maybe she’ll be more palatable this time around. Carla is a delight.
I like Damaris but she was really stiff and serious last season. I want to see her lighter side.

Will she be able to move her face? Sorry, I like Ellen. She is an attractive woman her age, not one trying to look 30 years younger.

Big meh for me. Never found Joan to be particularly compelling on Gerry's season and the frozen face look is just off-putting to me.
Ellen was my top choice, but also would've been happy with Leslie. Not sure if I'll care enough to tune in now.
Meh for me too.

I think it was the one where when they took a man's shoe off his diseased foot tore off at the ankle.
OMG, that was something. I gasped.

I remember him from The Twilight Zone, in a couple of episodes. He's cute!
Yes, he was Anthony who banished people to the cornfield.

I'm interested in finding out Ruby's lineage. The companions have something special about them doesn't bother me as it does others. Different strokes!
I think the problem is when they become more important than the Doctor as I think happened with Clara. All of a sudden it was the Clara show.

A creator I follow on YT just ordered a Cameo for her dad within the last few weeks. He loves English singer Lucy Thomas, and he's currently going through some tough health issues. You could just see how much it meant to him.
I tried to get my husband to gift me one with Bill Mumy (Lost in Space) and he said no. He knows I have had a crush on the guy since I was a kid and said it was a waste of money. He did buy me his autobiography.

His episode was on 5/7, during their Competition Italiano. He made it to the third round but didn't win.
Thanks. I hope he does well. I wasn't quite overwhelmed with him last night however.

When the baker mentioned how good she is at making macarons, I thought for sure they would turn out bad. So glad they didn't.

Funny to have just seen German on Chopped.
Carla's judging mostly consisted of her pulling faces. The editing was hilarious with that.
Really? Did he do okay? It is a change to have an Italian baker after all the French bakers we have had.

I wasn't really liking her either.

I enjoyed this episode more than I did the Space Babies, but I'm still not loving this season. I think Ncuti is a fantastic Doctor but I'm not sure the writing is good. Two episodes in a row of the Doctor running away in fear doesn't feel right. He seems to be missing some of that bravado I'm used to. I want to like Ruby, and I do, but I really don't want another Impossible Girl Who Waited Bad Wolf. Just give us a regular companion.
I agree, the special companion thing needs a rest. Companions can be special just by being good people who are just regular people.
I look back at some of my favorite companions from the old series... Sarah Jane, Harry, Jo, Tegan. A lot of this started with Ace having a back story but they ran with it in the new series.

Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)
in Counting On
That is exactly it. Imagine a Rod running a business successfully. The Amish also speak two languages. The Rods barely one.
