How tactful of you, @Daisy! What disappoints me about this story is that it's such a giant cliché from start to finish. Rich boy sweeps girlfriend off her feet for a trip to the big city (which, LOL, they don't even have to leave the state!), wines and dines her, takes her to a show, then they have rhapsodic sex complete with rose petals. Zzzz. No imagination, sigh.

It's not cliche at all yet unfortunately because there's a dark-skinned Black girl in it. The amount of Dark-skinned Black girls getting laid on soaps (not mixed or light-skinned Black Girls) is behind minimal. Not to mention I loved that this was sort of Spencer's vengeance against Rory, hardly the motivation but he is petty like that it was a nice full circle that NYC is where he chose to take her and even the hand-positioning was a callback. To see a Black Girl wined, dined and romanced like this hasn't happened enough on soaps to be cliche but I sure hope we get to that point one day.

I also want to compliment whoever was responsible for the lighting since dark skin is so often lit terribly on soaps and other shows and they did a great job here to let TA's luminous skin shine.

Again, not about her decision making. She did not wreck the home. He did. It was his home, his relationship. He wrecked it, not her.

Nope. It's 2023, Adults are responsible for adult behaviour. I shudder to think of a world where women who sleep with other women's husbands feel entirely absolved of responsibility.

Women are adults, we can take responsibility for our choices good and bad, we don't need to blame others when we make bad choices and they don't turn out how we want (as was the case with Noreen).

We don't need to hold others responsible for our poor judgment nor the cruelty we gleefully took part in (one of the things Noreen complained about to Bill about was that he didn't leave his wife and family for her like he said he would). We as women don't need to infantalize ourselves to obfuscate accountability in 2023.

Add to that the way she treated Jim and Cindy when they dared threaten her relationship with Dylan. Brenda got away with a lot. So many times I wanted jim or Cindy to smack her. Even as a kid I thought Brenda was always way out of line.

Yikes, I couldn't disagree more. Jim is the creepiest most patriarchal, misogynistic father of the 90s. Brandon drinks and drives and sleeps with married women and an ex-gf IN THE HOUSE and gets a pat on the back or slap on the wrist and Brenda has protected sex with her longterm boyfriend and it's a federal case.

Jim was always waaaaaay too involved and concerned about Brenda's sex life.

His need to control her romantic life was creepy but even more disturbing when juxtaposed with his laiser-faire approach to Brandon. Worst father ever.

I haven't listened to that interview yet, but I'll be honest, I've always had a real soft spot for not only the character of Brenda, but for Shannen Dorherty as well.  I have absolutely no idea why, but I have always liked her as an actress, and I found that for both 90210 and Charmed, I liked them much more when she was on them.  Hell, I even watched her on that god awful show North Shore, because I just find her extremely watchable.  Plus, I always liked that she was able to make fun of herself in not one, but two Kevin Smith movies.

I am guessing she's probably a bit prickly in real life, but if Jennie Garth was willing to work with her again, she can't be all bad.  That could be my soft spot her her talking though.

All this and further because IMO Jennie Garth was the problem. That girl had beef with every girl prettier than her, Shannen, Tiffani, Vanessa. She couldn't stand pretty women and made Shannen out as the problem.

Can we PLEASE stop blaming single women for married men's bad behavior? (Or any woman for any man's behavior for that matter?)

No. Noreen shouldn't have slept with a married man. Period. She doesn't get sympathy or credit because he treated her as shoddily as he treated his wife.

My response was directed toward the "she's a homewrecker" comment and the blame being laid at her feet and absolving the married male character of any responsibility or accountability for the breakdown of his relationship.

I didn't lay the blame at her feet, I've been clear that Bill Is a twat, but she knew that when she slept with him because only a twat would have slept with her. None of those things invalidate his rights as a father. Pretending to be shocked at how he ignores his son because she expected him to treat her their family different than his own is myopic, hypocritical and foolish.

Brandon, the only reason you should ever break into someone's home is if there is an emergency situation, or the home owner has otherwise told you that it was okay.  Needing to retrieve your parents' anniversary gift is not an emergency, and in no way justifies breaking into someone's home.  More to the point, was Brandon just planning on leaving Dylan's house open to actual thieves had no one been there after he took the gift?

Thank you!! Because what the actual fuck and that Brandon knows Dylan is going through it due to the car-jacking and still decides to break into his house? In an era before cell phones? You Walsh people. Brenda forever will be the only Walsh I fuck with, her moving away and never returning is precisely what I'd do if I were saddled to her fakakta family.

Yeah, Bill is generally scum, but he can’t be faulted for having no contact with a child he never knew existed.

Yeah for me Bill isn't even a villainy villain or scum, he's just really self-absorbed and that leads to all his awful choices and hurtful behaviour but he's not like say, Sonny Corinthos was or Ridge Forrester. Like most of Bill's behaviour comes from the same place not thinking of others and only thinking of himself and that's a character flaw that's one of the easier ones to fix IMO. To my mind someone like Ryan is far more damaging and chaotic.

To sum this season up, meh.

Also yikes…Helen in the Ryan break-up scene. Was not a fan of how the actress played that at all.

I can’t believe we didn’t see Bill try to get to know Isaac, or Noreen/Maddie’s kids find out that Isaac is Bill’s son. Isaac suddenly acting like Bill was some deadbeat who abandoned him was ridiculous, sigh.

Yeah, I'd probably sum up this season as "overwrought" everything, the acting, the storylines, Isaac's random hatred of Bill...everything. overwrought. HH acting has really bothered me lately as well and I hate to say it because I'm really happy to see a Black character as a star and that Helen is finally being given plot and agency and isn't just in service of her annoying friends but the choices are a little much.

I feel strongly that HH hasn't made the transition from stage acting to film acting yet. There's absolutely zero problem with her line readings if they were on stage but it doesn't work on television. It's like watching the actors from films in the 1920s and 1930s/40s who hadn't made the transition yet. It's too much. When Ryan and Helen broke up HH took it real Tennessee Williams and I wanted to say "Darling this is a primetime, fluffy soap opera, ease up".

Anyway the vow renewal was boring, I can't stand Dana Sue so I don't GAF if her harpy ass is happy and I was rooting for Jackson so I'm disappointed that they gave him zero arc. I find the actor fun to watch and I feel he makes the actress who plays Annie less stilted  I also don't want Erik to forgive Helen at least not without some groveling on her part because she did him very dirty especially knowing what he'd been through. That fact that Isaac will talk to her and not Bill is nuts.

I'm also disappointed I didn't get to see any Cece and Helen this episode. It's one of the few relationships (also Erik and Isaac) that I enjoy.

  9. Woooow colour me surprised. I was positive they were going to kill off Bill with all that foreshadowing and sidelining. Glad they didn't kill him off but also kind of disturbed that they didn't realize how much they wrote him into a corner and that however slimey he is to Maddie (or dumb Noreen) he's still those kids' dad and Isaac's.

It's insane to me that the show thinks kids get over their fathers that quickly. Like none of his kids miss him not even Katie and Isaac after a whole life of wanting to know who his parents are and moving to Serenity explicitly for that, has zero interest in getting to know him whatsoever. So unrealistic.

Isaac is more concerned with moonface Noreen's reaction than his relationship with his own Dad and he has all of the smoke for Bill and zero for Peggy not to mention that all his kids were at this stupid vow renewal and Bill wasn't even permitted to attend but his mistress was. Make it make sense!!

I don't understand the whole dumping on Bill thing - especially from Doreen. Maybe I need to rewatch S1 & S2, but didn't Doreen willingly and knowingly have an affair with Bill?!  So why is she acting like her ish don't stink, while carping at Bill for wanting to be a father to his own kid?!?!

I understand Isaac wanting to protect his friend Doreen but WTF with Isaac's hostility in Bill's office?  Correct me if I'm wrong, but Bill didn't know about Isaac's existence, right?  Why is Isaac acting like Bill was a deadbeat dad to him? Where's this same hostility toward his MOM who gave him up for adoption (instead of fighting to keep him) AND never told Bill they had a kid?!?!?!

Ah! I was on the wrong episode, yes! This! All of it. Yes Bill sucks but so does Noreen and whether or not he sucks he still has a right to see his children. And I have no idea what's up Isaac butt either. Bill didn't know, his mother did, If you want to be mad at someone be mad at her. It seems that Bill is the new scapegoat for everyone's mistakes.

On 7/26/2023 at 3:54 PM, CarpeFelis said:

Isaac is aware that Peggy knew he existed but was under her mother’s thumb for years. Her mother and Bill’s forced a closed adoption and forbade her from telling Bill. The only reason Helen and Isaac were able to find her was because of the Bible she left with him, so it seems highly unlikely Peggy would have been able to find him. She commented in another episode that it took her this many years to stand up to her mother.

Which means it would be even less likely for Bill to know since he wasn't even told and the only reason he was was because Isaac found Peggy. So Team Bill on this one, Isaac needs to cool it.

Really hate Ty’s new potential love interest who burns her own cds. They’ve been teasing Ty and Annie since season 1 and they actually have a good angsty chemistry.

Kathy should be more interesting and fun than she is.

I like Annie with Jackson. This episode really highlighted for me how deranged this show is about "obeying your elders" no teenager is going to say "I deserved to be punished and I want to follow her rules. First of all Nanny Sue has a crapton of rules foe the world and none for herself. Ugh I cannot stand her as a mother or as a "friend". Maddie finally did something right by Helen by questioning if she was happy and Dotty Sue acted like she was grilling a stranger. She's her best friend that is literally what you are supposed to do.

And her (once again) public screaming at Annie for "lying" to her. Annie didn't lie to you, Jackson is lying to his mother and for good reason, his mother is a dolt. Of Bethy Sue felt is was such an issue she should be sitting down with Jackson's (awful) Mom and making a case for him to see Annie. And the fact that she thinks Annie would want to live next to her harping, screeching, intolerable ass forever? Wild. Just wild.

And don't get me started on Noreen's holier than though attitude with Bill. Honey, you're a homewrecker, just because Maddie has grace and mean you deserve it. Bill may be a dolt but he is Rebecca's father and he has rights. If you don't like that you should have slept with a married man unprotected.

I have a very different take on the Spencer Esme question.  I thought Esme acted the total spoiled, entitled, Karen.  Answer phones?!  How ick!  I'm taking my baby and this small bag, with no money, no food, no place to stay and just leaving!  Where's my trust fund??

Come on,  give me a break.  My God Esme is so annoying.  I liked her better when she was straight up wicked.  Right now she's just another whining Karen in town.

As for Spencer, I appreciate that SOMEONE stays on her neck.  She was an awful person.  She likely still is.  At the very least, she should not be trusted until proved otherwise.  I'd feel the same if that was my baby sibling she was toting around.

Would you marry me? I can't cook but I can sing and supply infinite bottles of wine.

Who is Spencer to question Esme on working? Especially when she has amnesia. She wouldn't remember anyways. Spencer reaction to Esme is looking verbally abusive since she's got amnesia.

Not at all. Esme is walking around like the town did her an injury instead of vice versa and then she had the gall to have that insane line about "what people say I did" Bitch!  If 10 Russians tell you you're drunk you lie down. People aren't just fabricating your history Esme, you did it. And yet for some reason every interaction  with her comes up as though she has been the victim.

"Oh I should have known with you people" to Alexis. Excuse me? The Cassadines were minding their own damn business when YOU targeted Spencer and Nikolas. The entitlement still rolls off Esme like wheels on a Mack truck. It's maddening. If I was told that I did horrible things by literally every source in town I wouldn't be pointing the finger at them and accusatory I would be remorseful, contrite and looking to do better. She's Carly 3.0

And the way she spoke about Laura to Alexis was insane levels of obnoxious. Laura has been an absolute idiot regarding Esme, she treats her better than her own daughter whom she hasn't mentioned for months, and here Esme is acting complaining about leaving Ace with Laura, like Laura has done anything other than take Esme in, defend her and care for her like one of her own even to the detriment of Spencer, her grandson whom Esme GLEEFULLY targeted and manipulated emotionally and sexually. Esme with amnesia or Esme without is still a huge, steaming pile of crap to me.

  16. They really need to do something about thr Carly (and now Esme) problem. She's become beyond insufferable to the point of there goes my blood pressure, fuck this show. You cannot have characters doing horrible, horrific things without a price then sacrificing other characters to prop them up. This is an age of multiple media. There is tv everywhere, there seems to be a new platform everyday. If they continue to prop Carlys, Esmes and Josses as heroes they will not have a show much longer. And FFS rehire Lexi. Idiots!

As someone mentioned either in this thread or the media thread, GH could do a tribute episode with flashbacks of Bobbie and various cast members who worked with her doing talking heads of what Jackie was like in real life. Then they could do the same for Alan Quartermain/Stuart Damon, since he never got his fair tribute. Sonya Eddy had a nice memorial so I don't know if there is enough material to do another one for her, but it would be okay if they wanted to. There might be others I have overlooked who would also be deserving.  This would be a way to fill some episodes during the writers' strike.

Brilliant! I love this idea. I would LOVE to see this.

LOL at Taggert's face when Portia was ranting. I'm glad they're including Taggert again, but we should have seen him a lot sooner. (I know RA's real-life situation probably limits what he can do.)

Oh no, what's his real life situation?

I am very very sad to hear about Jackie. I  a huge fan of the vets and Jackie's story as Bobbie dealing with BJ's heart transplant was just getting started as I began watching the show. I enjoyed her work from that to the Tony/Carly situation to her affair with Damian Smith. I lamented that they didn't write for her and other vets like Genie, Jon, Jane, Wally and Leslie. There's a sorry lack of Nurses and Doctors on a show called General Hospital. While I'm sure the whole cast and crew is hurt by this I harbour resentment at Frank for not using Jackie's skills while he had the chance. I will miss her. 😔

This is why I only watch Sprina and sometimes Vanna or other vets like Felicia and Laura clips on YouTube. I cannot stomach the trash that is Carly and her shitty family. The fact that they didn't burn on impact entering that house. Carly truly is AJ's worst mistake. Screw her and Sonny forever for what they did to the Qs and Olivia is more Bensonhurst trash that Ned should have closed his legs to.

Raise your hand if you remember Oscar wearing that Browns cap all the time like Drew said? Yep, no one.

Drew and Curtis sound so dull talking about mythology and whatever else they said.

I think Trina has a bunch of dumb ideas (dropping the charges against Esme, sneaking around the Haunted Star, stealing the walkie talkie), but she is right. They shoud take advantage of the bed and go have some fun. It is a soap, and I think couples should have some happiness wherever they can find it. Although Trina may be a virgin (even though the first Trina seemed to not be one), she is using her agency and telling Spencer exactly what she wants.

Agreed! There are way too many babies for the sorry lack of sex on this show. And frankly if I were trapped and allegedly set to die I'd want some damn comfort too. I'd be all over him. On another note I continue to be offended that Curtis is in this storyline where Taggert (the father and former cop and better actor) should be. I love this Ice Princess storyline save for that really annoying detail.

Looking forward to seeing YNB, her and Sonya were good friends so it's very similar to when Shannen appeared on Riverdale to do a tribute to Luke. They may have gotten the idea from that and I think that's lovely. Clearly it was cathartic for YNB to be able to express her love for her friend in that way as it was for Shannen regarding Luke.

I had little hope when she told Esme that Spncer has very good reasons not to trust her, only to continue coddling her. Also Spencer being annoyingly obsessed with his brother is a byproduct of the show's(& a particular audience's) baby obsession. They're just wasting him on Esme & her drama to keep him & Trina from progressing. I have little to no feelings about his poor choices & mismanagement, cos its just a way to keep him busy and make him look like a drama king/Esme look better.

With that said, if Spencer needs to dial it back then so does Laura because so far her methods haven't proven any better as Esme was about to take her money, & her new grandson and skip town. Can't blame Spencer either, he had been left to pick up Trina and had apologized to Esme & Laura for Victor's rudeness.

Also what is shoving Cameron & Esme together, who's been through enough thanks to Esme, supposed to do? Other than possibly ruin Cam's character & piss off Joss? Like....Joss & her Teflon coated mother have gotten on my last nerve too, but I'm afraid my standards for her comeuppance are higher than Esme. She got the ball rolling for sure. Now, the writers need to find a way to make Joss suffer consequences for being a clone of her shitty mother, that doesn't involve Esme being coated in Teflon too.

AP is a good actress but her character is kinda meh for me. At the rate she's going, she is gonna be another Carly someday, just on the other side of the tracks.(shit maybe that's the plan 😂, fight fire with fire if so yikes....) Spencer is being made to look like an irrational jackass like Elizabeth/Monica/Robin etc.(& nowadays Nina) were made to look like whenever they spurned Carly. At least SJB & TB did more to make Carly look/feel human & fleshed out than AP is doing with Esme imo. Not to knock her talent because the writing has certainly decreased drastically in quality since TB's Carly, & im sure she's doing her best with what's she's given but still...

Every single line of this is gold to me. The only difference is I have a bit of empathy for Joss with that sex crime. The writers are really underplaying how violating and illegal that was. Funny how the charges were dropped (should have been stayed) on Esme simply because someone asked but with Trina they were ready to throw the book at her, hmmmm wonder why. Suddenly that bloodhound D.A is nowhere to be found. And that ungrateful, entitled little bitch Esme just shrugs it off without an ounce of gratitude. Carly Version 3.

The entitlement from Esme makes me want to throttle her. Bitch, just because you don't remember doesn't erase the crimes. She acts like all those CRIMES were done to HER. The entitlement is insane. I'd that AP is a good actress, idc,  idc, I cannot fucking stand Esme.

I’m not understanding why Laura is letting Spencer stay her. He’s openly hostile towards Esme and seems to go out of his way to antagonize her. I don’t blame him for hating her but dude should not be living under the same roof with her and it just makes Laura look ridiculous. This is one of the versions of Laura I can’t stand…hand wringing with disappointed face. Get Spencer a room at the metrocourt and be done with it.

Perhaps he would be less openly hostile if Laura hadn't rolled out the welcome mat replete with milk and honey. As edgy and over the top as Spencer is being (and he was her mark and manipulated and abused by her so I don't blame him a bit) Laura has gone the complete opposite way and is acting like Esme is Lulu or something. It's insane.

I understand courteousness for the sake of baby Damien but this is over the top. Esme is a criminal with or without her memory, she doesn't deserve Cameron and she certainly doesn't deserve Laura fawning all over her. And I don't mind saying  her whining about Victor reminded me of when she fake-cried to Nikolas about Sonny when he was finally trying to use his powers for good to get her to fess up about framing Trina. I'm not buying it, she's a wretch and I cannot stand her. I'd love it if she'd take this oversized baby who I don't believe to be a Cassadine, and skipped town like a stone.
