  1. I think she wanted it to go down that way. So she could surprise him with the knife trick. If she stabbed him in the back? Wouldn't have been the right spot (if you believe he had to be knifed in the spot where he was created).

That whole season of dreary scenes of Arya training was almost made up for by her taking out the NK.

    Almost.

My husband and I always joked about the descriptions for the episodes when Arya would be training. He'd say stuff like, "Arya learns HVAC," or "Arya trains with master calligraphist." Good times.

  3. Re: Craster's sons

Do the babies grow up quickly? Are the sons the military leaders in armor? Are there some babies back at the Night King's lair? I really wanted more of an answer to that in the show.

One point I've been thinking about. It strikes me a bit strange that Dany would decide like right now to march on King's Landing. Obviously I don't know if that's exactly what's happening, but it seems like it. I mean they're injured and tired, they've suffered casualties, even the dragons were injured. And they're probably all not in the best mental place right now. So "hey let's get Cersei now!" doesn't seem like the best of plans. It makes more sense to plan a defensive position if they get information that Cersei is planning a strike against the North, but again -- that doesn't make sense.

Agreed. I posted about this but can't remember if it was this thread or not. I think they need some time to regroup, lick their wounds, get more support.

Could it be that Jon saw Arya, and realized she was the best hope to kill the NK, with him pinned down by Viserion? She might have been the best hope anyway, as she seems to be even more skilled than Jon.

That's one option. But why would he spoil her stealth attack by screaming Go, Go?

I dunno. I can't get my head around it.

  6. Has this been confirmed: Jon screaming Go, Go which implies he and Arya and Bran had a plan.

I don't see how that matches with the interaction b/t Melisandre and Arya. It was as if Arya just realized what she had to do. It didn't seem like she'd planned it beforehand with Jon.

  7. Can't decide where to put this...Just some thoughts on Kit and Emilia's chemistry affecting how believable their love affair is.

I watch all the behind the scenes stuff. My son is in film school and I like to see him geek out on camera load outs, etc, and he helps me understand filming choices, stunts, and other things.

Anyway, Kit mocked throwing up after he and Emilia did the waterfall scene kiss. He's said he doesn't like seeing his wife Leslie kissing other actors in her various projects. He has said he and Emilia are friends which makes it weird to kiss her in scenes.

That kind of sucks, though, doesn't it? For viewers, I mean. I think that is one reason I'm not so invested in their great love affair. They don't look into it.

Also, Emilia has let some of herself slip into Dany this season. I love her personality, she's goofy and fun and quick-witted.

Anyway, I know I'm not alone in thinking Jon and Dany have no chemistry...because Emilia and Kit don't give us that in their acting.

I am curious as to whether some of those who survived The Long Night at Winterfell will come away fundamentally changed, by way of having such an existential experience, in the manner that some Holocaust survivors did, or some of those soldiers who experience the worst of extended combat in our world. If so, how will they change? I mean, even people like The Hound, who has lived with death for years and years, even encountering the wights previously, reached a new level of intimacy with death during that battle. At least some of these people need to have changed priorities, or face severe emotional trauma, after this experience, if the complexity of the human reaction to horror is to be given the justice it is due. Hope the writers are up to it.

Oh I absolutely agree. Esp about The Hound. He definitely looked like he was suffering PTSD. And not just about the fire.

I don't want this episode's events just glossed over, like they ticked a box and moved on. I'd like it to have some consequences. And again agree: hope the writers are up to it.

  9. I think she runs a tight ship. (I am a diehard fan, tho) I do nitpick that there were no sleeping pallets or chairs or food or blankets down in the crypt. Thinking of supplies in case the battle lasted a long time (they had no way of knowing they'd just be completely overrun so quickly).

  10. Remember when Melisandre said she was going to Volantis and then back cuz she knew she was meant to die there?  What the heck did she go to Volantis for? Did she need to level up? Did she need clearer info that she needed to push Arya toward her destiny?

  11. Okie dokie. I interpreted this as them prepping to do something: Sansa pulling out the dagger and giving Tyrion the look like, "we're going to die," moving closer to where people are hiding and preparing to defend them.

And hey, I get it. People absolutely despise Sansa here in this forum. I just like watching the show and talking about it. Everyone entitled to their likes/dislikes/opinions 🙂

...she and Tyrion could have put their brains together, AS THEY ARE SO SMART AND ALL.....and used them to try something.....anything other then hide and listen to them get slaughtered...

But they did. They were preparing themselves to fight when all the wights collapsed. If Arya hadn't killed the NK at that moment, Tyrion and Sansa would have likely died fighting.
