  1. I was shocked about that outcome. Why bring him on for just what, 2, maybe 3 episodes? Was Icepick written out so quickly in the original series? I did like the doctor helping Rick and not wanting to lie to him because he's her friend. I felt more of a friendship between them then Rick and Magnum. Really? I hadn't noticed. I've been too busy dodging the anvils they're throwing at us. OMG. They're not even being coy with the will they/won't they. I'm feeling insulted they think we're too dumb to miss the subtext so they're being blatant about it. I wish Rick and TC had their own show. Yes to this. I think this is where they're going to use Rick and TC as they don't seem to have any involvement in Magnum's story line anymore (other than being muscle). It was nice to see Shammy be a part of a story line and that he's getting it all back together. Speaking of muscle, is it just me or does Katsumoto kick ass better than Magnum? And to be superficial, I'm not liking Rick dressing so casually now that he owns the bar.
  2. Rick and TC are why I watch. They now feel like a separate show. I'm thinking Kumo is doing yoga classes or something on the beach? No story ideas in the writer's room so they're stalling for time? Gives them more changes to bicker (and bicker, and bicker, and....) I gave up on H50 because of the bickering. I'm not at the point of fast forwarding through Magnum/Higgins scenes just yet but I feel its coming. I won't give up on the show simple because of Rick and TC. Yes to all of this. My favorite scene was after the meeting with the banker. All of the real poignant moments have come from the stories for Rick and TC (at least any from Magnum haven't made an impression on me). They've replaced Rick and TC in Magnum's life with Higgins so basically they're just around as a tie-in to the Original. I watch TV for the entertainment value, I'm not into drama-drama. But.....I think with Rick and TC, TPTB can really do something good with stories relating to returning vets. They touched on it with Shammy, and building a house, and now even Rick's issue with the loan. Through Rick and TC they have the chance to address more topical issues and not just the stereotypical returning vets are real-life supermen and become cops/PIs/etc. I liked the character but it was too much of him. I have a feeling we'll be seeing more of him than Shammy. So now we've had Original TC and Rick show up (will Larry be recurring since NuRick bought the club?). There's only one person left. I think it would be easy to get Selleck on now that H50, Magnum, and Blue Bloods are all on the same night. Maybe have the Blue Bloods family go on vacation/destination wedding to Hawaii and it all goes south. You wouldn't even need to end the cross-over it NYC, just have Selleck and family get on a plane back to the mainland.
  3. I don't hate Mona, I can tolerate her, but, the makeup for her werewolf character is really bad, like, Face Off-1st-episode-10 minute-challenge bad. Zari's DJ voice/moments = "The Warriors". If you haven't seen it check it out. Great cult 70's movie. I thought when non-Desmond was feeling Nora and Gary he was going to say 'come out and play-yay'.
  4. In regards to Ava, I think its an act. I think she's onto something going on behind her back at the TB and is going rogue undercover, pushing Sara away and siding with Hank will make him trust her and she can 'be brought into the family', so to speak. When its over she'll tell Sara she couldn't take a chance by telling her her plan and that she had to make it look real.
  5. By the time I finished all the episodes they appeared in I really, really didn't like them - the kids. And felt bad for the Dad cause I started rooting against them I wanted them off my screen so much. It felt very passive-aggressive to me especially when they would drag their feet acting like they had all the time in the world while the Dad was asking them to hurry. I could swear I saw them share a little smile with each other once while doing it. The Dad would try to have some team spirit (such as fist bumps) and instead of teasing him for being corny they belittled him. The whole dynamic just got uncomfortable for me watch. I think the daughter is addicted to sucking lemons, she came across as that sour a personality. I finished all the episodes so I'll hide my comments for the finale in a spoiler so as not to ruin it for anyone (I've never done a spoiler before so I hope this works):
  6. AND................Icepick got really pissed at Rick during the poker game episode for having anything to do with the guy that was a mobster/drug runner (can't remember which) but he blindsides Rick by asking him to escort a woman who turned on the Chinese mob without telling him that tidbit of info? If they drop this totally I'll be very disappointed. What involvement does Icepick have with her that she can get him to in prison?
  7. Agreed. I feel like if they talk about anything that's happened with them around Magnum, he'd give that curious-dog-head-tilt and they'd just say 'private joke, you'd have to be there'. The Hart to Hart comparison made me chuckle. I've been catching up on all the episodes since they came back from winter break and it really shows how much its the Magnum and Higgins show. Rick and TC are so great it annoys me that she's basically taking their place but then I figure they might be better off. It almost seems like they have different writers for the two teams. And I also agree that this Magnum needs this Higgins. For me, Jay seems ok but even mentally separating him from Selleck's Magnum, I don't think he's got the wow factor to lead this show alone. I thought there would've been more drama with the mama protection, like she'd get grabbed going to the bathroom or the daughter would've been the one who sold her out and they foolishly brought her to the safe house. I think they wanted a way to give us more background on a background character but it didn't seem to give up much. I think the red herring is one thing these writers do well, most of the time they have me sure I figured it out then surprise me. I suspected the real killer's dad was the the killer. When they found the notebook with the coded notes I immediately said, shorthand! When they went on about having to research and translate it I laughed - up until I realized how old I was. I've been happy to see Shammy has been making appearances and he wasn't just a throw away, especially in light of the gravity of his intro episode. Though it really irked me that he was given and took all the credit for the home built for the vet. I know he was supposed to come across as cheeky but it just felt like a dick move for me. Hannah. Sigh. I'm so not a fan of Jordanna Brewster. When I heard she would be on and play such an important character I groaned and was suddenly glad Higgins is set to be his true love, I'll settle for that over Brewster. I also couldn't figure out why Amy (?) went out on date with an obvious douche and then got upset when the date acted like a douche. Next episode in 2 weeks - Maggins alone together (shocker) treading water. If the show wasn't already renewed that might've been ironic.
  8. Agree with all of this especially the comments regarding the writing. While I love me some more Rick and TC (and less kick-ass Higgins) the episode ultimately left me feeling like it was written just as a way to introduce Icepick (surprisingly enjoyed Corbin Bernsen in the role). The romance between RIck and Toni fell flat for me. As much as Rick went on about what good friends they were and how she knows him, I just didn't see it in the little interaction between them - they didn't even kiss except for a goodbye peck on the cheek. I guess that's why all the descriptions for the episode referred to it as Rick's crush; I also believe that he cared for her but just didn't get ANY attraction vibes from her. And it wasn't enough for her brother to have 'an illness' but she did too? Why couldn't it have just been her, needing to pay her own medical bills? The actual robbery plot based on a guy just happening to post a photo with a keychain holding a key with a small inscription of a number on it - in the background - and another guy who has a beef with the keychain owner just happening to come across this photo at the exact right time is as insane as Magnum spinning a car around as he sped down a winding mountain side road while being shot at. Was it a one of a kind, custom made keychain? My sister, who's never seen even one original Magnum, describes this show as mindless enjoyment before going to bed and I'm feeling the same. I think they have a cast that can work, they just need to give them better stuff to work with to take it from mindless to memorable.
  9. Magnum "guessed" that the person who painted the lady in the blue dress thought they were simply reusing a canvas when they painted over the Rembrandt, not realizing it was, in fact, a Rembrandt. How the thieves/killers knew the Rembrandt was under there, I'm not sure. The art appraiser painted forgeries of the stolen paintings so the cops thought they had recovered them.
  10. I hope not, as well. They've spent so much time creating the new Higgins that Rick and TC are background fillers so they don't have room for another character. They could explore the progress of the suicidal guy but we'll probably never see him again. I seriously want to call the new duo 'Miggins' since the Magnum character is now comprised of two people. I figured anyone stepping into Selleck's shoes would be lacking but its like they split the character in half. I actually don't mind (most of the time) the new Higgins even though she's a MarySue and Rick and TC will always be my favorites. I keep going back and forth on how I feel about Magnum. Is it terrible of me to be dreading the upcoming 'who is R' dragged out plot? I'd rather see Rick and TC clothes shopping together for their spiffy threads. As for the actual story this week.......I kept thinking how did they not get prison time for what they did? Telling Magnum that it would haunt him was punishment enough? It didn't seem to haunt TC so much. Regarding the bone marrow donation, I was under the impression just because people are related it didn't automatically make them a match. Did they bring the wounded brother into the hospital, take him right to surgery, extract his bone marrow while on the table, and insert it into the brother? Magnum was still wearing the red Hawaiian shirt when he visited them. The two people I know who have had bone marrow transplants were in isolation before, during, and after the transplants.
  11. I was wondering what Rick's involvement with the club actually was as sometimes it seemed like he owned it and couldn't figure out how he would be so ahead of TC and Magnum (even with his connections). Agree on the Robin Master's comment and think he should be giving them cuts of the profits for the books, not just 'helping hands' since he seems to owe them so much. For my work, I deal with people in Europe and its always 4 August - but that's in e-mails so I can't attest to what they would verbally say. Yes. This is why I was happy we saw some personality from the character. I'm more interested in all the others, including Higgins which surprises me because I was so anti gender switch but I'm enjoying her character. I think they've gone too much too soon devil-may-care-slacker with Magnum. Higgins relationship with her Mom and the TC and Rick encounter were much more intriguing (Rick didn't go to Hawaii right away and I hope we get something about what those couple of weeks in Chicago were like for him). Raja, you're 'make work' statement was a perfect description because even though the 3 of them are so close, I easily got the feeling TC and Rick didn't even bother to tell Magnum about the circumstances of their new friend. (Oh, and we also saw a new tattoo on Rick - anchor on leg)
  12. I liked this one for a few reasons. As soon as I saw the butler I figured he was involved but thought it was he who was sending the e-mails so the hunter twist was nice. Was happy to see Ben Vereen and thought he did a great job as a guest star and they used him well, unlike how they wasted Carl Weathers; I'm hoping Carl shows up at a later date when Mags needs a favor. I also like how this show is feeling a bit classic to me with the way they pepper in these guest stars - we just need the voice over..."Tonight's Special Guest Star....". I liked that they gave us some scenes where Mags showed some personality (like with the kids), I felt he was the only one we weren't getting a read on. And, no car chases or epilepsy-inducing fight scenes, yay! As soon as TC and Rick invited that guy to go to the beach with them I thought, seriously?! That suicide attempt was broadcasting from the space ship Mags jumped from in Ep. 1. Not sure how I feel about that whole sub-plot. I understand the intent but that subject matter isn't something to be happily wrapped up with a bow at the end of an hour. I hope its a way to introduce us into how they're all coping after what they went through and I hope its something this show takes seriously (or as seriously as a CBS cop show can).
  13. I wonder how much they paid to have free access to the police station? I understand having the Detective being friendly with them but that whole interview room portion at the end was way too much. I have to admit, I'm kinda liking the downplayed (literally) fight scenes and lack of car chases compared to other shows (cough H50 cough). I don't feel like I'm going to get whiplash. I did feel slightly queasy at the tender looks between Mags and Higgins, though. I know they're going to force a coupling, cause a man and woman simply can't be just friends don't ya know, but I'm not feeling the chemistry. We learned TC's dad was a felon and he lives in an airstream, and that Rick's parents are divorced and he likes to snack a lot. I didn't watch the original enough to know their intimate details so out of curiosity, is that info true to the original characters?
  14. +11 days ;) Yes, about the choreography. I thought she was ultimately going to turn out to be some master spy during that fight, as well. When she didn't I felt bad for him again.
  15. At least he won TWO fights all by himself. Granted, they were both against people who were no where near Seal-level expertise but still...........progress. Was quite surprised when Mags pulled off his mask to reveal it was him breaking-in, didn't think he had that in him based on the previous episodes. Again, progress. But then they took that away when they diminished his accomplishment by having Higgins guess how he did it and saying she would've done it that way. He, the hero of the show, had his moment and the writers brought him down below supporting character level. I understand this is a new iteration of a beloved show which had a star who's 'It Factor' was off the charts so I need to not compare them. With that said, I'm confused by the writers; let him have some of his own successes. I figured the paintings were forgeries and the art lady was involved when they had her examine them. He's a PI and doesn't know how to super glue a fingerprint? A fingerprint that should've been smudged from Mags picking it up, putting it in his pocket, and playing with it, then giving it to Higgins who played with it. Rick and TC are my favorites and I thank the writers I just bashed for giving them really, nothing necessary to do just to actually be in the episode AND for easing up on the Mags/Higgins bickering. I know it will be back, though. The bickering between McGarrett and Danny was the single reason why I bailed on H50 in the 2nd season.
