  1. As they shuffled down the sidewalk, Maey bolted and ran forward. Half a second later Asan ran after her. Nole said, Maey, come back..., and never broke gait from her fat knees shuffle. It would have been the same if she had been by herself with the kid. Kid is fast, she is tired and lazy.

Too bad we can't deport citizens for having a bad attitude - Cousin Larry would be the first one shipped out.

Right after the Facetime scene, Larry had a talking head in which he was saying things about how rude Cousin had been, and how he (Larry) probably should have stood up for Jenny.  I said to Mr. AZC, "All of the things he is saying to millions of people, he should have been saying to just one person - Jenny."

I think Jenny has been crying so much because she has come to the realization that the only thing worse than the life she is currently living in the Philippines would be life with Larry in the US.  She needs to try to entice another man named "Love" to come to the Philippines to meet her and get her out of there.

Larry watched her get yelled at without defending her. His face said, "Whoo, glad it's you and not me on the hot seat. " Later on the balcony he had the same attitude.

Josh is at least the second guy in the series to cite the low rate of divorce in the Philippines as a reason to pursue a relationship with a Filipina..Dude has been married twice.  Is this because they assume that this aspect of Filipino culture will prevent these women from leaving them or something?  I find it icky.  Obviously no one wants to think about divorce when they're in love and getting married, but things can go wrong and it seems like these guys are looking for someone that is less likely to run away from them.  Just seems odd considering he's been married 2x.

The divorce rate in the Philippines is low because divorce is illegal. It's zero. You can get an annulment but it is difficult and very expensive. That's what the celebrities do over there. If these couples ever have a wedding there after marrying here on the K1, then they are always married there. A divorce here changes nothing there.

She is definitely someone who does not love and accept herself. I think she is only apathetic and lazy because she does not perceive herself as having any power, influence, or control over what happens to her. She is a bystander and a spectator in her own life. Everything happens to her, rather than things happening because of her. The sad thing is that if she took the time to listen to advice, actually understand it (asking questions whenever necessary, which would be most of the time [at least at the outset]), and then implement it as best she can, then I think she would come to realize very quickly that she can make things happen and steer her own ship.

I'm not sure what her parents did that caused her to view herself as being buffeted and steered by the whims of the winds and the tides, but a good guess would be that they didn't ever really let her do things for herself. I suspect they were so afraid she would fail at whatever it is that she tried that they helicopter'd around her and made sure to always rescue victory from the jaws of defeat for her.  This kind of parenting quickly creates a child who does the absolute minimum, often tries to redefine what the "absolute minimum" really is, relies on other people for their success, and has no self-confidence and very low self-esteem because they were never allowed to suffer the ignominy of their defeats or to savor the taste of their hard-won victories. By preventing the child from having those experiences, they don't learn what they are personally capable of or that they'll survive their defeats and they don't understand the depth and breadth of the cost of the blood, sweat, and tears required to turn defeat into victory and dreams into reality.

Nicole is just not used to having to do things for herself. This is why it was mom's fault that the diapers almost got left behind. Honestly, I'm surprised she didn't berate her mother for "letting" her almost forget the visas (or whatever it was that she almost forgot).

    Jaundice?

    Nice!

I'm curious how many times we'll see Nicole trying to get Daddy alone with her tagine this season. Or will it be Ramadan the whole time?

She doesn't care enough to research his religion and advance her knowledge. He could tell her anything and she'd have no way to check.

Larry's puffy baseball hat makes him look like a lawn jockey!

He reminds me of the poor kids in the cancer center commercials where they have an oversized cap on their bald head.

I think I saw 3 caps this time, a white, blue and green.

I do not know anything about government aid, welfare, or any other government programs Nicole might be using.  So I am reaching out to any of you out there in the know.  If Nicole has the income from the show coming in, which is probably a chunk of change, how could she still be eligible for these programs?

A friend has a part time job and his kids are on Obamacare. He worked some overtime this summer and they denied an eye doctor claim because he went over the threshold. They must watch pretty close.

I totally agree. I feel like he's holding the fact that he drained his 401k over all of OUR heads, and we are just poor, hapless viewers!

The only thing she can relate his 401k to is her SS, or Social Security. At her age and after a few jobs as a sales girl or similar jobs, she would have a hundred bucks in her account waiting for her retirement. She probably doesn't see him making a huge, impressive sacrifice cashing his out.

It would not be wise for Nicole to be on TLC's payroll, while on welfare. The IRS has been known to aggressively go after reality show participants. Several ladies from the Real Housewives franchise complained about getting huge tax bills.  Richard Hatch (Survivor), Teresa and Joe Guidice (Real Housewives of New Jersey) were actually sent to prison.  They should serve as cautionary tales.

Three hots and a cot. No work. Nicole will thrive in prison.

By the way, it's not even a pig, is it? It's a piglet from what I understand. A suckling pig who has only been eating milk and not real pig food. The name suggests it, "lechon", "leche", "tres leches", milk. I'm curious if there's a big chance of parasites in a piglet.

No, it's a weaned growing pig, usually 60 or 80 lb live weight roughly. A suckling pig would be 8 or 10 pounds. They also lechon bigger hogs if the  party size calls for it.

  11. Some thoughts on Forrest and Jenny. The first time I met my filipina wife's family, we were one minute from the house in the taxi and she said I need to greet them with this hand on forehead gesture. Say what? Never heard of it. I guess I gave it a shot and I'm glad nobody was filming it.

This will sound wrong but Jenny isn't that poor. They have a hollow block house, enough land for pretty goats, some furnishings. Most of them sleep right on the floor like her. My wife agreed they are several steps above poor and if you want to see abject, heartbreaking poverty over there it is easy to find. Their house is shocking by US standards but ok in the RP.

Larry Lechon showed what an ass he is. All the Filipinos I know avoid undercooked meat. First time my wife saw me eating a bleeding rare elk steak she worried I was a vampire. We had a 2nd wedding there and had lechon. What a feast. They know how to cook. Another thing, there aren't refrigerators so that hog needs to be eaten by family and neighbors. Larry didn't help. I don't see him being much help with anything else in the future,  either.
