Do you think we'll get a season two of this?  lol   The one about the extended family who got surgery with Dr. Proctor, was two seasons, right?

The Andersons did get two seasons.  They were much easier to watch than these two though, I'm not sure I have it in me to sit through any more of Tammy and Amy.

  2. I wonder how well Amy will do in the long run given how badly her first week went.  The idea of ignoring the doctor’s instructions to stay on a liquid diet and eating solid food stunned me, she seemed to think it was funny until he told her how bad the consequences could have been.  I had an aunt who had the bypass and suffered all sorts of health problems because she chose to eat her favourite treats in smaller amounts rather than the healthy foods she should have been eating for proper nutrition.

I read that Angie J. is claiming she's going to be on a WATN episode, while she's also claiming that the producers are liars, and fake everything.

Oh please no.  She is one of those people (like Janine the Scooter Queen) that I will always dislike even if they do manage to lose weight.

I've always wondered why they don't get some of these people some meds.  Several of them have visible anxiety and could use some help.

The horrific Angie J claimed some of her drugs were prescribed!  I think more of them have medication than we hear about.

Gah!  All this talk of Poutine is making me want some.........................

Someone told me there’s a restaurant in New England that has a Five Pound Poutine Challenge!  Would be child’s play for a pre-op poundticipant.

  6. It’s not starting well.  Until I get control of the remote I’m trying to watch on my phone and it just won’t start playing!  I ate beef jerky today.  Since I wasn’t supposed to eat after Sunday’s failure this just isn’t a good day.

Feels like I should be wearing the dunce cap. I ate an entire bag of pork rinds (2.5 oz because it's mostly air). I held the bag and shoved it in, ignoring my own advice about the bowl size.

It happens.  My Sunday night consumption seemed fine while I was eating but the pile of bones on my plate told a different story.  Maybe next time I should bring a tiny plate!

Amy should be glad she has Dr Proctor and not Dr Now. Dr Now  would have expected more than 25 pounds in 4 months.  And even then, he would have scheduled her surgery for a month or 2 months out to have more weight loss. I don't think Amy made any great changes and she definitely wouldn't have made it on Dr Now"s 1200 cal, no snacking eating plan.

I thought it was two months, but still I agree those were very low goals.  We can’t really see how much walking Amy is doing or how often she’s visited the gym, but I’m sure she is still eating far too much to only lose 25 pounds.  Though Dr. Now has been setting lower goals than he used to as well, when someone is 600 pounds even a 2400 calorie a day diet would have the weight dropping off!

I think the show can be a cautionary catalyst for action.  Like how I want to clean something every time I watch hoarders.

I remember on some show back in the day someone was saying that food addiction was so hard because you can't ever have total food sobriety.  You HAVE to eat so a food addict is constantly facing triggers.

We don’t actually know what sort of diet the sisters were given, but I am pretty sure Tammy’s tacos weren’t part of it.  Amy’s snack cake wouldn’t have been either but she did stop at one.  I give them a pass on the wedding because food is so entwined with celebrations, but having it just a few days before the trip back to Atlanta was a bad idea.  Amy would probably have exceeded her goal if it had been held earlier in the month!

It’s a bit off topic, but personally I’ve found that banning sugars and processed carbohydrates from my allowed foods brings me a level of calm around “danger” foods. We need to eat good nutritious foods, but things like candy, pie, cake, crisps (chips) are just not an essential part of a healthy diet.  I think that is where therapy comes in, because anyone like Tammy and Amy (and many of us watching) learned to “use” food to cope with everything.  Brain scans have shown the effect of sugary foods can be highly rewarding and yes addictive.  That many years of a behaviour takes a lot of dedication, help and guidance to change.  So while abstinence from food is not an option, abstinence from particularly unhealthy foods can be for the most part.

Michael was really under a strain pushing Tammy. I think it is another set up, though, because she could have stood up to let him check it. She never stands so I am wondering just how much do they have to do for her????

Yeah, I really felt sorry for him while the wheelchair screamed under all that weight.  Amy suggested WD-40 but Michael told her it needed to be welded.  It was the best bonus scene of all, I also liked when Amy was sad she was a pound over her goal and Dr. Proctor suggested she take off her shoes.

Has there ever been any kind of explanation about their immediate family?  Like the parents or aunts and uncles?   If so, I missed it.   Things come across to me as a very sad life for both women and it did not start when they were adults.  Any thoughts?    Also, I think Michael is very kind.  He must love Amy enough to encourage her hopefully.

I think Amy’s voiceover during the wedding scene did mention some relatives (aunts / uncles / cousins) being there although her beastly mother couldn’t be bothered to attend.

Edited to correct: an aunt and a cousin (with partner) attended.  The rest were Michael’s family.

  12. I would love to have seen Gina’s meals while she was “working really hard”.

What Gina (and many other poundticipants) need is a very strict rehab for overeating.  They would be banned from any outside food sources and required to attend classes to learn what comprises an appropriate meal for a 1200 calorie (per day, not meal) diet.  Heck they should even have to learn to cook.  Not to mention exercise.  Along with all that, daily group therapy to discuss how to stop using food every time they feel anxious / sad / bored / stressed / every emotion under the sun.  I know it would be very expensive but might improve the success rate.  Who knows, they might even learn the motivation to keep it up when they get back home.

"No matter what it takes, I'm willing to do it. "

Read what is on the paper that Dr. Now gave you.

Eat only the food listed in the amounts prescribed.

Drink a lot of water or Crystal Light when you want food in between meals.

Are you willing to do that?

No.  I think she looks at food and “estimates” how much it is, and that ends up being 4-5 times more than she is actually supposed to have.  Measuring devices should be required.
