Can you tell me why you like this storyline, because I'm hating it. Am I missing something? Getting Nikki drunk? I think JG is a sick mofo.

At this point any story that isn’t someone scheming to take down or take over CW or Newman or Abbot Industries (?) or someone being named the new CEOCOOCFOWTFWC? Like every episode is rinse repeat endless faux business talk. And like literally no romance either. Sure there are some couples, but romance? As scarce as hen’s teeth.

So give me anything else? I’m in

Bertha changed the dinner table seating. One staff member tried to correct her. George spoke to him sternly, and that’s it?

I think at that point, with everyone coming in to get seated, the servant chose the better part of valor and decided not to get into it with George. He knew it could be a big scene and the hosts of the event (his employers) would not like that at all.

  3. Several posts have been removed as they include information that has not yet been talked about or shown this season.

Remember:  If something happened after the show was filmed it belongs in a character thread or media thread.

  4. As soon as Kyle did his "faint" I knew his brain was spinning for ways to make someone else the problem. He's canny enough to know by that point that he was being seen as the problem/villain so he had to turn the narrative. Suddenly he's the victim of all the drama.

And by the next morning he'd figured out that he could make Natalia the true villain. Suddenly it was Natalia's fault. Jess is credulous enough to be convinced and Tumi is already inclined to blame Natalia in all things.

Yes, Natalia had made a couple comments to Jess about Kyle's behavior to Jess, but it was in the spirit of "you should know" rather than making up things. Kyle admitted - when Natalia confronted him that morning about the passive aggressive dig at Jess in the group text - that that was what it was.  But later to Jess he's all innocence and convincing her that Natalia was making that up to stir things up.

Natalia isn't an innocent for sure, but Kyle was 98% responsible for everything that had happened during this charter and yet he's convinced Tumi and Jess to let him skate and put all the blame on Natalia.

Ashley is friends with Nneka but doesn't know how to (or didn't care to) pronounce her name correctly.

Ashley set Nneka, and Wendy up against each other already.

To me it feels like the "people" who wanted to introduce Ashley to Nneka were the producers once Nneka was cast. There always has to be some connection when they bring a new HW on these shows and Nneka just moved to the area, so here comes someone who thinks Ashley and Nneka could be friends so that she can be introduced to the show.

The Osu stuff also feels very much like producer pot-stirring to get the season off the ground.

Not that Ashley doesn't play her part. Every show has to have that HW who's willing to throw the verbal bombs that set things off. Kyle on BH, Sheree on Atlanta, blanking on OC (but I know there is one), etc. Sometimes it's more than one wife, as here, it's Ashley and Gizelle. They throw the bombs and then skate - mostly because that's what the producers want.

They do a lot of faux-innocent, "I was just wondering" kind of conversation starters. And truthfully, they do need to be part of the casts so that the "plots" can be moved along. When that doesn't work, you have a dinner with truth or dare or some kind of dumb game to elicit this kind of thing.

I don’t think Turner is very smart. She badly misjudged how George would react to her seduction, and she has again failed to recognize the strength of the Russell’s marriage. Bertha is taking her down!

Agree on this. It allowed her to land a blow on Bertha in the moment, but will likely come back to haunt her.

Also agree with others she's being very short-sighted in her need to show up Bertha. She should never have come to an event at the Russells as it makes no matter if the Russell family keep her secret or not. As soon as the other servants see her the gossip is going to fly.

She could have kept her previous identity secret much longer by not appearing anywhere where the people who knew her before would be (beyond the Russells). To the Russell servants the gossip about a new Mrs. Winterton (?) would mean nothing as long as they never saw her.

I sympathized with both Bertha and George in their fight. He did turn Turner away as soon as he realized so to his mind he had not betrayed Bertha. But to have a woman dressing you, doing your hair, giving you advice, etc. who had tried to sleep with your husband and you know nothing about it? Especially if you find out about it publicly from the venomous woman who was responsible? That would really hurt - especially as Bertha and George see themselves as a team.

  7. I was thinking there must have been train travel available to them and found this:

“The track ran from the mainline New York, Providence & Boston stop at Wickford Junction to the port of Wickford, where a company-owned steamboat could bring passengers across to Newport. The N&W began service in 1871, the start of the Gilded Age, and managed to provide combined rail and steamship service until 1925.”

Didn’t find how long it took, but I’m guessing it had to be under a day.

So I don't think there's some subtle subtext to any of this or something deeper. Besides, the servant characters aren't really getting the kind of attention the "upstairs" characters are. The writing for them feels rather obligatory and perfunctory. I see no reason to look for deeper meaning to Armstrong's attitude.

I think Peggy's race is the primary motivator for Armstrong's bad attitude. But I do also think there's a lot of jealousy over Peggy's job and how it directly connects her to Agnes; in ways that Armstrong can't be connected. Peggy is able to sit in the sitting room and work with Agnes, while Armstrong cannot. Peggy has a freer schedule and can pursue other avenues of work - with Agnes's approval - Armstrong cannot. Peggy can accompany Marion to events, Armstrong cannot. etc. etc.

So for Armstrong, who already considers Peggy less-than because of her race, all of this adds extreme insult to injury. And pair that with what seems to be Armstrong's own sad lot in life (as she views it), ladies maid at the whim of an employer who doesn't seem to value her loyalty and daughter to a bitter, angry, ailing mother (at least I think we saw that last season) and her behavior fits within the bounds of who this character is.

It’s complicated, because she should have been dismissed but the reason she was dismissed was not a good one. Bertha fired her because Agnes asked her to, thinking Turner and Oscar were either having a fling or flirting at least.

As far as we know, Bertha has no idea what Turner did last season.

She wasn't fired for coming onto Mr. Russell (who did not tell Bertha), but it wasn't just that Agnes asked her to because of Oscar. After Marian conveyed to Bertha that Agnes wanted Turner gone because she'd been seen with Oscar (in so many words) Bertha seemed a bit dismissive. Like why should she care if her maid was making time with Oscar. It was only when she saw what looked like a somewhat chummy moment between Turner and Larry that she made the decision to get rid of Turner.

So she got rid of her for potentially getting too close to a Russell man, but it was the wrong family member.

As soon as we heard mention of a young Mrs. Blaine wanting to engage Larry I figured they'd become involved, so no surprise there. I was totally surprised when  it turned out Turner was the young wife of the wealthy old dude. Nicely done JF.

And as to Turner's acceptance by the old guard, she'd certainly have some challenges but being married to a wealthy old guard guy puts her a bit ahead of the Russells who neither one has "lineage" as far as society goes. Of course this is on the understanding that no one knows Turner was a ladies maid (which I assume they don't yet). If they find out her full background, she'd be about as accepted as Mrs. Chamberlain.

Upon hearing about the servant/father, I recalled that last season he had been going off on mysterious surveillance missions on his days off.  He was watching her.

I figured she was his daughter but don’t think we actually heard that discussion between them, right? We did see him lurking near her home and she did finally confront him, but can’t remember past that. It sounded like her husband was going to try to get rid of the servant/dad (Watson?) Hope he doesn’t get him fired.

Adam is trying his best to join the family regarding “demented” Victor and she won’t let him. Then will claim him going rogue as “proof” that she was right about him being disloyal.

I would love it if, because they're (especially Nikki) freezing him out, Adam ends up being the only one that Victor decides isn't plotting against him because of his "dementia". Victor told Nikki he was using his supposed dementia as a test for his kids. So her stopping Adam from being in on anything regarding that and thus he's not "plotting" against Victor? Sweet, sweet karma for all of them.
