Just saw where the McNally Estate is on the market so I guess they were fixing it up to sell. It’s a gorgeous house, but I’m not sure I would enjoy living in it. Awfully big and ornate.

I think I know why the son was not on the show. Is this him???
Yep. I had seen something else online where the family mentioned that he was in prison, but it didn’t go into the details of the offense.

I saw where Alicia was upset because of the way the show portrayed Tim as being too controlling and non-supportive. I kinda agree with her. I think Tim just had a habit of making all the decisions because Alicia couldn’t or wouldn’t make her own life decisions. Until she developed the confidence to actually make a decision and follow through, I think Tim still felt that he had that responsibility. And that’s a very hard habit to break. Hoping their decisions these days are arrived at in a more equitable manner. Tim will probably be relieved once he realizes she can carry part of the load now. Very proud of Alicia for becoming her own woman!

Matkat, as much as people here say Lola is a terrible therapist, I think it is good that she diagnosed this. I guess she does know what she is doing. She did seem really concerned right away though.
Even before the diagnosis, it seemed to me that Lola’s demeanor was not her typical friendly, chit-chat style. She seemed tense and very apprehensive. My bet is that she knew immediately that something was very “off” with Ashley.

I watched this online but don’t worry - no spoilers. I just wanted to tell everyone that closed-caption will be your savior tonight. Even Dr. Now seemed to mumble more than usual.

Honestly, I’m beginning to have more sympathy for the 600Pounders who sit home and eat all day. I’ve never had a love affair with food and never had a significant weight problem (although I could stand to lose 5 or 6 pounds). But I’ve always been busy with jobs, family, etc. Now that I’m in a stay-at-home situation, I’ve turned into an eating machine! I wake up thinking about food. As soon as I have finished breakfast, I start thinking about lunch. And dinner. And snacks. It’s crazy!!! But when you never leave your house, it becomes your focus. If this stay-at-home thing lasts several more months, I may be a candidate for Dr. Now!

With TLC $, I sincerely hope Dr. Now or TLC, goes beyond the weight loss surgery, to connect these people with social worker who can hook them up and regularly check in with basic life skills, or adulting 101, and therapy, so they can live like humans. Moral obligation, noblesse ob'lige.
I was so shocked when it appeared that Dr. Now’s office didn’t step in to help them. I only go to my doctor for a check-up once a year or so, but among the routine health questions are several relating to the patient’s mental health and home situation. I asked them one time why those questions were asked and they said if a patient appears to need assistance, the office will make sure they get in contact with the appropriate agencies for help or intervention. When Dr. Now realized these two were in a strange town, homeless, jobless and clueless, I expected him to immediately connect them to a social services representative who could assist them and steer them through the maze of agencies and regulations designed to aid people in their situation. But it appeared that, other than giving them a couple of phone numbers, there was no help provided. As you said, maybe it wasn’t a medical obligation, but I believe it was a moral obligation.

I usually have zero patience with the 600-pounders and their ridiculously enabling families, but this episode was different for me. From the beginning, Dominic and James seemed like lost souls who just can’t figure out how to do life. All they have is each other and a van and they don’t seem to have the skills or motivation to attempt a change.
It just all seemed sad. Very sad.

Amanda was really something else. She truly seemed to think she had no problem with her weight. She looked so confused and offended when Dr. Now told her she was obese too. And when she said 320 lb I yelled "which buttcheek are you talking about?!"
LOL, I was so disappointed that Dr. Now didn’t say “let’s go to the scale and find out for sure”. Just really wanted to see her face when it showed the true weight!

People don't get to 600+lbs without having severe issues.
YES! Regardless of the root cause, all of these folks have severe psychological issues that need to be addressed in a much more substantial way that what is shown on the show. And in the cases where the participant has been massively overweight since childhood - why didn’t the parents try to address those psychological issues when the child was young? The problem wasn’t going to suddenly disappear.

She just looks completely uninterested or unexcited. Just no emotion in her face.
It seemed to me that she was already pissed off that Dr. Now had the absolute nerve to tell her she had to stop eating so much. How dare he suggest such a thing???? 😂

I may be completely wrong (and it wouldn’t be the first time! 😂) but I don’t think Seana played us. I think Mom and Derrickus are the players.
It seemed to me that Seana was probably pushed into participating in the show by her mom, who was fed up with supporting Seana’s massive addiction. I don’t think Seana ever had any real desire to change, hence the constant “I lost it” excuse. When mom realized this was going to total failure, she just bailed out and left town. Derrickus was just in it for the fun of being on tv. When the fun ended, he disappeared too.
I really believe that Seana has significant mental and development issues and I wish someone could have stepped in and provided real, meaningful help. But unfortunately it appears that she is facing this alone and I just don’t think she has the life skills and mental strength necessary to handle it.
Hope she doesn’t end up like Sean, but I won’t be surprised.

Since when did underarms become an issue?
EXACTLY what I was thinking! The day that I start worrying about the color of my underarms is the day I call and make an appointment with the best shrink in town!

I was flabbergasted when I saw (midway thru the show - must have missed it earlier) that she was only 4’11”. How on earth can someone 4’11” weigh 750 lbs??? And still be alive?? I’ve almost gotten blasé about some of these patients, but this one flat-out stunned me.

I was shocked that for the FIRST TIME a family member went off script. When the wife was crying and saying she realized her part in it, I mean have we EVER seen any of the enablers admit that and feel bad? No, they all continue to enable and never admit they are part of the problem. It was shocking because this is just not in the script we see every week. Once I saw that, I knew he would succeed.
I’m with you! The minute I saw her crying when she realized that SHE was a big part of the problem, I knew that things were going to immediately change in that household! She was mad and she wasn’t going to let the foolishness continue! So happy for both of them and hope everything goes smoothly with his recovery.

One thing in the lawsuit that was kinda eye-opening for me was the issue of post weight loss medical issues (teeth, etc). I hadn’t thought of that before, but I bet there are tons of medical issues (no pun intended!) that arise after losing that much weight. No doubt these issues are much less life-threatening that carrying around an extra 400 or 500 pounds, but the show always makes it sound like you just lose the weight, have skin removal surgery and then everything is fine. I bet most of these folks have some related medical problems for the rest of their lives.

While I realize that reality tv is, in fact, highly edited to create an interesting narrative, the editing in this episode actually shocked me. Granted, JT isn’t a terribly sympathetic character, but he lost 400 lbs (!!!) and the editors didn’t show him as a successful patient until the very end of the show. The fact is that in spite of his whining and snarky smile, he LOST 400 POUNDS while still lugging around that massive lymphedema. They could just have easily presented him as a hero living in a group home because he was determined to succeed in spite of the fact that he truly had no support around him. I think this episode really opened my eyes to the way the editing can control the way we see someone.

Good grief! He wins the gold medal for eating! I’ve seen all the 600 lb life episodes and I don’t think anyone - ANYONE - has ever been so over-the-top in love with food.

New show on Discovery Plus. Name of show is Too Large. Weight loss journeys without most the drama, angst and family dysfunction that we see on 600 Lb Life.
