IIRC the demos also went up a bit last week too.

And it should be noted that the ratings were even higher than that before Mon-el started getting a lot of screentime last year (though he isn't necessarily a cause of that loss).

Yeah, from what I remember SG had a really huge dropoff after the first two episodes, which to me looked like those probably had mostly high ratings because people were curious and wanted to check out Superman. Kind of like a second premiere. SG also had a huge drop after the hiatus which means that actually a lot of highly fan reviewed episodes that had little Mon-El (like the James, Lena and Alex episodes) had poor ratings. But I wouldn't attribute that to them either. I think ratings are a complicated beast and it's oversimplifying it to attribute rating changes to just one character or storyline. Like I mentioned, I think things like increased promotion (like there is for the crossover or like there was for the premiere) likely has a much larger effect than people anticipate. People here noted that the CW seemed to do a big push for promoting Riverdale and the ratings are much better this season.

I'm very curious where Legends of Tomorrow will move when Black Lightning takes its spot when it premieres. I still hope they will finally put Valor out of its misery or at least ban it to a deadend slot and pair Legends with Supergirl.

I was very happy to read some positive feedback on Black Lightning.

Not sure I've seen this poster here yet:

  2. Behind the Scenes pic from David Harewood. He must have been sitting on this since forever.

I hope it's okay to put this here, since the SG forum doesn't have a social media thread like Arrow does.

I am clearly out of touch with modern continuity in the DC Universe -- but then again, I kind of lost track after Zero Hour!

It's among other things part of the Supergirl and the Legion of Super Heroes run written by Mark Waid. I greatly recommend those if you can get your hands on it. Waid is a great writer, I wish he would write (live action) tv as well. Especially since Geoff Johns seems very busy, so it's unlikely that he'll write much tv again.  And it seems that Jeph Loeb was sucked in by Marvel. It's a pity, since both Guggenheim and Kreisberg have also written comics on the side that they haven't used their connections to rope in more comic book writers to write for the Arrowverse. Can you picture a Supergirl episode written by Gail Simone?

I haven't seen too much complaining about Imra's hair color. I think by now the people are kind of used to the tv shows jumbling the characters around. But I haven't checked the comic forums, maybe it's more of a topic there?

  4. My best case dream scenario would be if Lightning Lad shows up and it turns out that he was falsely presumed dead and that means that any Mon-El/Imra marriage is invalid. They would still have to deal with the fallout but at least the marriage aspect wouldn't be a factor anymore.

Apparently those are season highs for Supergirl? I guess that means that the people calling for a boycott for Mon-El's return episode weren't too successful. For the record, I think the most likely explanation is that the uptick is because the crossover means more advertising for all Superhero shows across the board. ie the uptick proves that Mon-El isn't ratings poison, but it doesn't prove that he is the reason for the okay ratings, it could also be caused by something else, like the crossover promotion.

Mon El could easily have told Kara that seven years had passed for him and he was married now.

I think it would have been hard to tell her that 7 years have passed without incurring serious questions and eventually having to spill that he's from the future. Especially with the whole "the ship is made from something not on the periodic table" stuff.

But he could just have stopped Kara and said "sorry, there's somebody else".

In danger, not in danger, she was still trapped in a capsule.

Or she was just sleeping in a travel stasis pod. Nobody seems to see any urgency to free the other pod people, so why should it be different for Imra?

    Quote

Which, on its own, was bad enough that Mon-El was willing to break into a DEO weapons storage room and knock two soldiers out, and ask Winn to help him behind Kara's back.  He very clearly wanted her out of the capsule - that was the entire point of returning to the spaceship.

No it wasn't. He only started to try save Imra when the pod started failing after a malfunction happened AFTER Mon-El and Winn frizzed something up. We don't KNOW why he returned to the ship. Maybe he wanted to wake everybody up, not Imra specifically. For all he knew he wanted to fly the ship away and go back to sleep with the rest. WE DON'T KNOW.

Also, yeah, did Mon-El bother to get the others out of those pods? Or, I guess, they couldn't show them because they hadn't cast the roles at that time.

Well it's not like there is some sort of higher law that prevented them from casting them. I think they probably just don't want to overwhelm people with introducing 6 new people at the same time and so they will introduce them one by one. But in universe that likely means that they are not in any immediate danger the pods.

I should probably sum up what I thought of the episode.

J'onn/his father was nice, but too short and a strange fit for the rest of the episode. J'onn getting to use his phasing powers was really cool.

It was good to see more of Winn.

I'm not a fan of the triangle/wife aspect, but I'm too glad that the plot finally seems to kick into gear I don't care. It finally for the first time this season felt like things were actually happening.

I thought it was assy of Mon-El to kiss Imra in front of Kara. Typical CW soap BS.

I think handling Reign as a possession type storyline is a pretty boring choice. To me villains who have some sort of personal stake or drive are more interesting.

I thought Melissa Benoist did an amazing job this episode. I thought Odette was good with Ruby, but her "getting posssessed" acting looked really stupid. I look forward to seeing how she handles straight up evil though. I thought Chris Wood was good in the beginning, but he got too shouty in some scenes.

Amy Jackson alias Saturngirl is very good looking and has a nice screen presence so far. It's too early to say anything about her acting, but her accent was kind of offputting.

I like the Legion and all the comic book stuff and look forward to that happening. I want to know more about the mission they are on.

He had two separate opportunities to tell Kara something, though - the hospital bed and when he was in the cell. I can kinda handwave the hospital bed part, especially since, yes, he was clearly trying to tell Kara something there. But in the cell? She was already crying and hurt, and his wife was in a capsule. THAT WAS THE TIME TO SAY SOMETHING, Mon-El!

And yeah, I'd say there's a good chance that he has a telepathic link with Irma, which presumably let him know that she was alive - which is presumably why he was desperate enough to break into a DEO weapons facility and knock a couple of people out. But since he was willing to do that, he should have been willing to tell her about Irma.

Or Imra was not in any danger in the pod till after Mon-El and Winn arrived and he tried to steal the ship part to activate the ship because he was trying to execute a mission while trying to tell Kara as little as possible about the mission (including not wanting to tell her originally that he's from the future because you are not supposed to tell people about future stuff). Maybe he was under orders not to tell Kara anything and that order will eventually be revoked once the boss arrives or wakes up. But I guess we'll see in the upcoming episodes just how forthcoming Imra and the other Legionnaires are with details or if they are all trying to hide some secret mission, not just Mon-El.

I do think he should have told her about the wife (since he could have shared that without saying "btw, we are from the future and on some secret mission"), but I think he was trying to, or at least he was trying to get out of Kara kissing him as not to cheat on Imra.

Actually, Dream Girl is Star Boy's girlfriend.  Brainiac 5 only had eyes for Kara.

In modern continuity he had a thing for Dreamgirl. Supergirl the tv show is clearly much more inspired by modern continuity than classic continuity.

    Quote

Dream Girl was killed during a Terra Firma attack and Brainiac 5 recovered her body and became obsessed with finding a way to resurrect her. He captured Lemnos to try and revive her, but the experiment destroyed her physical body. It did however leave her consciousness alive in Brainiac 5's dreams.

    Quote

Still, his ultimate goal was to bring Dream Girl back to life. Brainiac 5 spent more and more time sleeping to be with her. After a time, he proposed in the dream realm. After inventing a machine that could upload the Legionnaires' minds into an information-based reality and being forced to recreate their bodies, he created a body for Dream Girl as well, downloading her consciousness from his mind into the new body. He then invited the Legion to attend their wedding.

    Quote

Dream Girl foretold a possible upcoming galactic war, and that Lemnos had a critical tie to it. She has also told Brainiac 5 that they will be married eventually.

    Quote

Later, her body is cloned by Brainac 5, and she returned to it from the subconscious state after Brainy met with her and proposed. When she was finally back in her physical form, Brainy and Dream Girl told the other Legionnaires that they where getting married (this was at the end of war with the Dominators).

My issue was that instead of immediately trying to get poor Irma out of the capsule the instant he woke up on the DEO hospital bed - what I would expect from most husbands - he instead was just, ok, I'll chill here for a bit. Then, given a second chance to explain things and GET HELP FOR HIS WIFE (not to mention the other people in those capsules) he instead chose to sulk and not tell Kara anything.

We have no proof they needed help. Imra started going bad only after Mon-El and Winn arrived with the new ship piece. Mon-El told Winn he wanted to back to the ship to help "people" and Kara, not that those people in the pods were in danger.

    Quote

But honestly, if I were Irma? I think I'd have some grave concerns about a husband who was willing to leave me STUCK IN A CAPSULE FOR SEVERAL HOURS because he didn't want to tell a former girlfriend that he was married.

Again, if those people are really suffering in those capsules, why hasn't the DEO taken all of them out of the capsules and brought them to the surface? They weren't imprisoned in those capsules, they were travelling in them. You are just assuming that Imra was miserable in there. Maybe she was in telepathic contact with Mon-El the entire time and there was no rush. Or maybe she wasn't. The point is we don't know that. Maybe Mon-El wasn't rushing to her side, because there was no reason to rush before Mon-El and Winn messed up the ship's wiring.

    Quote

The glasses are made of a special material that acts as a dampener on her sensory powers. Otherwise, she risks going crazy from sensory overload, as happened to her shortly after she first arrived on Earth.  That's why Jeremiah made them for her.

To me, that she wears them in the jail cell confrontation with Mon-El but not in the earlier scene with him on the bed made me think she was using them almost like a shield to hide behind, a barrier,, because she was getting emotional and wanted to be strong for the painful confrontation.

the cult show which didn't relate to anything or anybody else,

Out of all the episodes, the cult one I could picture coming back into effect. After all, the actions in the cult episode seemed to have an effect on both the Legion ship and Reign. And maybe the weapon they retrieved on Mars might be used in battle against Reign later (I noticed it was lying there on the shelf in the storeroom Mon-El broke into). So those episodes might not be as meaningless as they might seem on first glance.

  10. Well technically she's from Titan, not Saturn itself.  So they could look differently. But I don't think that Winn was part of the DEO yet, so he could have missed Jemm. But the DEO should be aware.

Mon-El mentioned Querl (=Brainiac5). I wonder if he is on the ship as well and whether we'll get a scene where they read him the riot act for getting the calculations wrong.

    Quote

I do wonder if Mon-El was playing the "This will help Kara" card genuinely, or because he knew Winn would fall for it.

I think it is very likely that the purpose of them being there really is Kara. Mon-El saying Winn letting him to go the ship would non specifically help people and specifically help Kara to me shows that he wasn't that worried of the condition of the people in the pods. Otherwise he could just have said "let me go back there or else the people in the pods will die". I think he wanted to get the ship working again so him and the people on the ship can continue with the mission which in a roundabout way is supposed to help Kara.

So, will the time messing rules from Flash or Legends also come into effect here?

  11. In the other crossover, it kind of seems like Kara was only used as muscle. Here Alex has a one night stand and Kara seems to have a philosophical confrontation with Overgirl, both things that kind of seem like they would be meaningful character moments. You'd probably still understand the story but it might be sad to miss them.

Mon called the girl Imra, and later confirmed that her full name was Imra Ardeen. So Saturn Girl., not Shadow Lass.

Also Shadow Lass's real name is Tasmia. Nura is Dreamgirl, Brainiac 5's other girlfriend.

I thought Daxamites were about the same level of strength with Kryptonians?

    Maybe the cure weakened him?

I don't buy for a second that Mon-El was only secretive because he didn't want to tell Kara about the wife. To me it sounded like he was about to tell her about that part right at the beginning in the hospital bed where she starts kissing him and she "shhhhhhs" him when he tries to tell her something. (reminded me when he tried to tell her about being the prince when they were locked up by Lillian)

IMO the Legion is there on some secret mission he is trying to hide. Maybe they originally wanted to do it without being noticed by Kara at all. If anything it's weird that he became that chatty once he admitted that he was gone for 7 years.

    Quote

. His wife could have died, and he was willing to let her die because he wanted to avoid an awkward conversation?

I thought the pods only started to malfunction after Mon-El put in the device he tried to steal first and which Winn then handed to him. Imra's pod was only affected because the power rerouting they did after the malfunction didn't work for her pod for some reason. All the other pods are still fine.

That would mean they got married pretty recent. I'd say year 6 or 7.. I say that because average couples prob stay as bf/gf for around 5 years or so before they settle. I know for sure though that there are couples who's been in a Relationship way longer and haven't gonna married yet. It's a big commitment. Because of plot, I'll assume they got married after 3 or 4 years of being bf and gf.. That would mean year 6 or 7.

Marriage didn't seem to be a super emotional thing on Daxam, and there is no insurance that either Daxamites or Saturnians follow typical human "5 years dating" rules before marriage.

I'm just glad that the plot if finally starting to move somewhere. I hope they will get it out of the Legion soon why they are here. Especially the "maybe been there for 12.000 years part", like wtf? Even if we presume the Legion hasn't perfected time travel yet, went into a portal like Mon-El did, intentionally in a ship that would allow them to sleep for thousands of years, it seems like a pretty hug conincidence that they would wake up that close in time and location to where Mon-El left.

Kara's not going to try to end the marriage.  She's Supergirl after all. I bet she's going to be all noble and stoic and sad, sad, sad.

But there's no point in bringing back Mon El unless he ends up with Supergirl.  He's just not that interesting a character on his own.  (Give me J'onn every time.  Or even Winn or James, both of whom are less white bread than Mon El.)

Mon-El is their story link to the Legion. They clearly always wanted to do Legion. Yeah, you could have him magically not come back and still do Legion but it would be weird as fuck if they put that much build up in already. And from what I understand he always had a 2 year contract.

    Quote

BUT, when he woke up in the DEO's hospital thingy, he didn't tell Kara that it had been seven years for him and that he was now married - which was kinda important because, at that moment, HIS WIFE WAS TRAPPED IN A CAPSULE. But instead of telling anyone at the DEO, "Hey, I'll go into the details later, but for right now, my wife needs my help," he zipped off to a weapons storage room and knocked out some soldiers. When given a second chance to explain things so that he COULD GO RESCUE HIS WIFE, WHO, REPEAT, WAS TRAPPED IN A CAPSULE, he chose to sulk.

    And it should be noted:

1.) He tried to tell Kara something, presumably the wife thing when she was all over him on the hospital bed
2.) He broke into the storeroom to get the device which he used in the ship to activate the pods. Why does the DEO have something that fits right into a futuristic Legion ship, no idea But that's how it was used.

At this point we have no idea why he is secretive (based on comic book Legion, probably some stupid rule about not telling Kara how she will die), but he clearly is about something, like when he told Kara she shouldn't have come for the ship at all, because even if he died it wouldn't be her concern anymore.

And considering who Imra is, I wouldn't rule out that they have a telepathic link. We don't even know if she was in any danger before Mon-El put the ring device in the ship. Based on the spoilers it sounds like it might take some other Legion characters some time to wake up (considering there are 6 pods and we have heard only of 3 people so far). So it seems like at least some of them will be in the pods quite a bit longer (if it was as simple as just punching in the pods, why don't they just do that for all the pods, why don't we just have 6 Legionnaires running around immediately?). From what I can tell they were in the pods willingly. Maybe the whole point of stealing the device was to wake everybody at which point things started to malfunction.

Personally, I'm just glad that the plot finally seems to be picking. Maybe it can finally gain some sense of urgency if it's important enough for the Legion to stop by.

  14. I'm fairly sure that part 1 will follow Kara and Alex to earth 1. On the Arrow board, somebody split the spoiler pics apart by episode. Based on this the follow things will happen on Supergirl:

    Barry/Iris wedding rehearsal
    Alex/Sara one night stand
The beginning of the wedding that is then interrupted by nazis

Also, apparently Stephen Amnell gave away during a fan convention that Kara and Oliver will share a passionate kiss during the crossover (presumably in their nazi incarnations, which I think is beyond gross. imo there's already way too many people praising how sexy and cool Overgirl looks, you don't need to add to that by also putting her into a romantic or sexual situation, these are still Nazis).

  15. Quote

Well Westallen wasn't exactly spared that because on Flash they had fake Barry kissing Caitlin in season 1,then Killer Frost kissed Barry while him and Iris were together and there was a whole episode of Iris and Mon El making out in that musical thing. They love the meaningless weird kisses lol

Not against the backdrop of them getting married. To me it feels like the writers want to take one last chance to piss in the Olicity pool and marr their special day.

    • Love 1
  16. Maybe Real Oliver goes undercover as Nazi Oliver and gets kissed by Nazi Kara because she mistakes him for Nazi Oliver. I just find it beyond gross the way they seem so excited for a "passionate" kiss between nazi characters. The whole exercise sounds like a huger and huger trainwreck. And you can say all you want that it doesn't actually affect real Oliver and Felicity, but it still comes off like the writers subtly hate Olicity if they always use this big crossovers to sneak in excuses to have Oliver suck face with other women. As if they want to rub it in that they hate having to put Olicity together. At least it looks like Westallen will be spared that.

  17. I haven't seen the movie yet, but so far I thought this video reviewer's explanation was really insightful. It says the movie looks like it was shot in the same grimdark style as BvS and then artificially made lighter and brighter colored in post production. Except a ton of the scene composition and the costumes were made with the more gloomy tone in mind and without it the costumes for example look really gawdy. Because they were never meant to look like that.

  18. 21 minutes ago, Angel12d said:

Well, firstly, we don't know the context of the kiss, although I can't imagine them playing it as a romantic moment tbh? If anything it'll probably be two bad guys who get off on being bad and kiss. Yes, the Nazi stuff is gross but these are the Arrowverse writers so it's not exactly surprising. The bar is pretty low, IMO.

This is the big advertised crossover and the event where two of their core couples get married. I don't feel strange for demanding a bit more than "well it's not surprising that they are gross". I don't watch all the Arrowverse all the time. But my plan was to tune in for the crossover, at the very least I expect not to be grossed out in the middle of a story about wedding and tragically losing beloved characters like Stein.

    Quote

they’re Nazis who should rot, so...make out all you want, trash.

Why should I be forced to watch nazis make out? The job of nazis should be to be punched by the good guys. And do you really believe they would be above trying to make it weird sexy? Arrow must really have broken its audience for everybody to be so okay with that.

  19. Let's all remember how the crossover is being advertised:

    Quote

"I don't think anyone is going to see that coming. It's very much a dark love story. It's the underpinnings of that that will make the Earth-X element a real contrast to that. Oliver [Stephen Amell] has a big role to play in it and it's bigger and better than any crossover we've done in the past. It's going to be epic."

    and

    Quote

"It's Oliver and one other character in the Arrowverse's story," Mericle said. "It really explores the question of true love, and what does that look like? It's emotionally really compelling, and you're going to be surprised by what he learns and how he learns it and who he learns it form. It's pretty crazy stuff, I'm not going to lie."

And in the middle of that dark love story and the question of true love you are gonna plopp some random stuff about Ollie's doppelganger sucking face with Melissa Benoist? Even if the character Ollie learns it from is Earth X Felicity or Tommy or whoever, how is having a throwaway hookup stuff with an alternate version of Kara not gonna severely undermine that?

  20. Just now, Primal Slayer said:

Olicity gets married in the end, that's the important thing, they are the ones who win. Seeing two baddies kiss is something you have to live with for all of probably a minute of the entire crossover and for the entire season.

I think it's pretty shallow to only care about "winning". I don't care about ships that much. What I want to see is an emotionally consistent storyline. As if the whole "quickie wedding in the wake of Stein dying" rumors weren't unappealing enough. As a viewer, I care about a tonally fititng story. A potential Ollie/Kara baddie version thing is completely pointless and gratuitous and Stephen is kinda gross when what he talkes from this is gushing about Melissa and wanting to work with her again.

Once more, no matter how much people hate it, Arrowverse HAS pulled this thing with people being connected across universes, so there would absolutely be people immediately wondering whether real Ollie and Kara should have a spark now too because their evil versions had a spark (kind of like on Buffy evil!Willow was gay).

The writers should be ashamed of themselves when hey abuse nazis doppelgangers just to have non-canonical hookups. It's gross to the max.

    2 minutes ago, Angel12d said:

I think they're just doing it as a OMG moment and because they can? Like, when else can they have Oliver and Kara kiss? Never. Haha.

Yeah, romantic nazis as an OMG moment. Not repulsive at all! As if I didn't have enough niggling doubts that the writers don't have nearly enough respect for the subject matter as would be required. So why not abuse nazis to get a hookup going that they apparently think is cool and are sad they can't justify getting off the ground in regular canon. Gross, gross, gross.

    • Love 4
  21. Because it's gross? Because it's a mental image you don't want in the same story as Olicity getting married? Why show evil nazis in romantic relationships with each other at all other than to be gross? And because the overall Arrowverse HAS pulled this story about people who are together in various universes before with Westallen.

    • Love 3
  22. There is not enough brain bleach in the world. Way to shit all over an "Olicity in all universes culminating in a marriage" story. Not to mention if would make Oliver the ultimate Gary Stu if Iris is already fawning over him and then he "gets" Kara too in some form.
