For those of you who have read the book, I have a question about JB’s itemized list of Jill’s expenses.  Is he talking about all expenses since Jill was born, or just her adult years while she remained living at home between age 18 til marriage?

I do believe JB spent plenty of money on his adult kids, even the married ones. They all drove big SUVS, had Apple laptops and phones, spent lots of time in coffee shops and nail salon, went on plenty of ski trips and cross-country visits, had too many babies, with little or no jobs or education.

Of course, he bought them all these things because he has to control them and they cannot work (if female) or must work for JB (if male).

Even in On the Road with Too Many Duggars, Jana had a Motorola Razr, which was the trendy phone at the time (it was pre-iPhone!). I think you're right about Jim Bob spending money on the adult kids, even though it was on Jim Bob-approved things. I mean, John got a plane and flying lessons.

Possibly Josh's conviction and Shiny Happy People.

Josh's conviction was almost two years ago. If that prompted the change, why TF did it take them so long? Shiny Happy People couldn't have come as a big shock, anyway.

Something else had to be at the source.

I know. He seemed pretty checked out even early on in his "fatherhood journey" (I can hear that phrase in Michelle's baby voice). Didn't he take a nap while she was in labor in the next room?

There was a scene in the show, either during their engagement or just after their wedding, when Anna smugly said, as to baby names, "We haven't picked our letter yet." IIRC the Duggar daughters present did not go into raptures of delight at that. I believe the remark drew more side-eye than anything else.

I don't know if they really want to and just don't think it's cool to talk about it, but I never got a feeling that the adult Duggar daughters wanted to compete with Michelle as to the baby-making numbers. Jessa's had the most babies so far, is probably working on #5 or will be soon. Joy and Jill are at three each and Jinger's got two. Except for Jinger, each of them has had at least one miscarriage or stillbirth, and difficulties or complications in labor and delivery. so even if they aspire to huge numbers they may not be able to achieve them anyway. Anna and Kendra seem to be the most like Michelle in the baby-making game.

Is artificial insemination allowed by their religious doctrines? I think that if it is, and if Anna even had an inkling he'd be convicted and go to prison, she'd have moved heaven and earth to get some of her husband's semen frozen for future use. I think she's that deep into the fabulousness and godliness of her role as babymaker for Jesus. And her status as the Crown Princess of the Holy Duggar Empire.

Well, oops, I think Katey's gonna grab that tiara off Anna's head any time now and plunk it on her own. Because it goes along with marriage to the Crown Prince, and that gig is over for J'inmate.

Jinger also had a miscarriage, an early one.

How is it NOT tax fraud to do something like that?

It's a technicality, probably. It's also really hard to prove fraud by someone else.

As far as the Gosselin girls' college, on paper, KHate is a single mother of six. I would guess that Mady and Cara got grants, scholarships, and loans galore. Again, technicalities.

I’m 259th in line for the book from my library. There seems to be quite a bit of interest. I had zero interest in reading Jinger’s PR piece for McArthur.

I'm first in line at my library. I guess there are not many interested in it here. I'm waiting for it to come in.

Kendra's grandmother Caldwell passed away in June. Per her obit, she has 4 great grandchildren. Three were accounted for. The fourth is Kendra's mystery boy. His name is Justus.

Most important thing to remember about any fundie's kid's name: It could almost always be worse. Here's looking at you, Spurgeon, Heistheway, Nehemiah, Newman, Gideon x2, Jinger, and others.

There's some debate on Reddit about whether the Tyjeer in the obit is a Caldwell kid or a cousin. And about how to pronounce that monstrosity of a name.

After reading all of this, it makes me think cheating must be rampant in these communities.  In all my years in church, I never remember cheating being discussed like this.  And while some couples I knew went through a honeymoon phase where they were joined at the hip for a short while, no one was this insecure.  I can't imaging being with someone always afraid that if someone in the drive through smiles at them that they will fall into bed with them.  This is just such an unhealthy way to go through life.

The difference is that for these bible beaters, cheating means anything from talking to someone alone after church with their spouses five feet away, to a torrid years-long love affair. I would bet money that any cheating in Fundie World is more like the former than the latter.

I do know a few non-fundie women who are that insecure. My bitch of a sister-in-law is one. I think it's rooted in women thinking they are nothing without a man, any man. And it's usually the women who get married young -- the aforementioned bitch was 21 -- who are that shallow.

Actually, this CD cover is quite similar to some that were sold in my church circa 1994. I doesn't even look that odd to me, even somewhat nostalgic, and I've been out of church nearly twenty years!

It's weird to see Jill with her natural hair color, rather than that fried, bleached-blonde shit. But I'm sure she's convinced that she's a natural blonde. 👁️🧻

I also do wonder if they have really bad insurance or are doing this without insurance prior authorization or had to dr shop or something bc at one point someone called them to ask if they were "all set on payment." Uh how often have you ever been asked that if insured? If your insurance is the type that needs the prior authorization, they get that done. Sometimes these days they can tell you what your out of pocket will be at least ballpark if it's something big. IDK something about that didn't sound right to me.

But look at Evan acting like a big swinging dick now with his whole - I NEED TO TALK TO THE DOCTOR, THIS TEST NEEDS A TREADMILL. Right Evan - very easy to have big dick energy sitting in your own home filming for your leghumpers who'll agree with anything you say. We all remember you when it was time to advocate for Carlin - uh IDK what to ask, I'm going to bring her daddy along . . . . And btw tests are done how they are done for a reason, you can/should certainly ask questions but if you sit there and demand a treadmill [he won't - in front of outsiders with an education, I bet he's a yes sir, no ma'am kind of guy; just easier to talk big on YT] what are they going to do, haul in a treadmill bc Dr. Stewart has decided one is necessary?

I would bet money that they've been doctor-shopping. People with factitious disorder are notorious for hopping from one doctor or hospital to another until they get what they want.

LOL at "big swinging dick" -- Giggle Boy probably does think that he's the big cheese, compared to those losers who get up and go to work every day.

Plus many pools are simply nasty after a hurricane has gone through and I'd be tempted to put anything that was in the pool in the trash.  It depends on the surrounding yard and vicinity, but after one hurricane our pool required a lot of work to clean it out and return it to usable condition.  We had a good portion of our neighbor's tree parts in there.

I don't watch Alyssa and John's videos so I don't know what their yard and the surrounding yards are like, but if they get a fair bit of debris blowing into the pool one or both of them will need to jump right on the removal and clean up.

You're talking about a different Alyssa and John, right? Or maybe they'll have one of their not-real friends do the cleanup.

Because she's having an EEG due to passing out, falling and having seizures. I believe after one fall she was diagnosed with a concussion. Hospitals don't like folks passing out and injuring themselves on their watch. I'm assuming she'll be off any medications she is taking now (if she's even taking them), so by hospital standards, I'm guessing she's a fall risk.

I'm pretty sure the doctors have figured out that she's lying about all of the above, and they just ordered the test (IF they did) to shut her up.

What would have made sense is for her to opt for abortion, and it would have been nice to see.  Just an abortion, period, since American TV still treats that as the third rail of storytelling, especially for main characters, but also to show that older, financially secure women in relationships have them, too (on TV, if they do let a character have one, it's usually some poor, dumb teenage girl with nasty parents and whose boyfriend took off once he heard the news, so she couldn't raise a baby even if she wanted to).

Didn't she actually show up at the abortion clinic and then change her mind?

See, also, Elizabeth and Mark and Carter and Kem.

And Chen and her boyfriend, the ICU nurse. I would have liked to see that storyline continue, although as the child of an adopted person, I also appreciate that ER had a good adoption storyline that wasn't just the older, selfless heroine adopting a baby some "loser" gave birth to. (See: SVU.)

I honestly don’t think Abby and Luka would have gotten married had she not gotten pregnant, or even if she had the abortion. It seemed like they had the wedding out of obligation to Joe rather than because they truly loved and knew each other well. And I don’t buy that Luka would have stayed with Abby and loved her faithfully had she had that abortion. He would have been gone as soon as found another woman he could have a family with, and Abby never seemed that excited about finding out she was pregnant anyway. All she did was whine and cry and stress about how scared she was and how hard it was going to be. And why would she, with her history of instability (she can’t even take her own recovery seriously; why would you bring a child into that?) and her genetics, even want to be a mother?

I could have seen it working had it been more like Carol and Doug, where Abby told Luka or even Carter how she was anxious to settle down and have her own family. But all of a sudden to have her get pregnant, freak out and be in tears over the whole thing, then by the end of an episode she all of a sudden wants to play happy family with Luka? It made no sense, and at the end of the day, it’s Joe I feel sorry for, and it’s sad that when Abby relapsed no one really thought about or cared about his own safety. And everyone around them is delusional enough to believe that they can provide Joe a loving and stable home and supports that sham marriage. Maybe Luka woke up in Boston and finally left when he realized what dead weight he was carrying around.

And hopefully he took Joe with him.

I thought even at the time that Luka was just trying to recreate his dead family. I don't blame him. But he went about it the wrong way -- first Carol, then the French girl, then Abby, with assorted flings in between -- and it was never about love or a real relationship. And how is it that two doctors didn't manage to use effective birth control?

Don't forget Alyssa reacting to John throwing furniture in the pool before the hurricane.

His version of hurricane prep was to toss furniture (presumably patio furniture) in their swimming pool? What on earth was that supposed to achieve?

She says she is getting her multi-day EEG in early October. She and Evan are blaming doctors, nurses, etc. on the scheduling. They are also attempting to pad expectations that it is unlikely the test will show anything. Evan says that he may have to talk to the doctor because they understand that Carlin will essentially be sitting around. He thinks it would be better if she exerted herself to see if she had a seizure - he suggests a treadmill.

They do plan to go to Jackson's wedding and will be staying in Florida to do some sightseeing. So the EEG must be around the first week.

They answered a question about bullying. They joke about her bullying Evan and Layla bullying her. Then they say they haven't experienced much bullying since they were homeschooled. Finally they say there are mean people online.

They are trying to find a dance class for Layla.

Someone asked Carlin if she ever feels like a plastic bag. Evan clearly got the reference and eventually clued her into the Katy Perry song.

Zade gets bonus points for turning out the big huge light on them.

They managed to create an entire video without a single Tesla shot.

Just watch -- when the EEG shows no seizures, they'll blame the absence of a treadmill, or the doctors and medical staff not listening to Giggle Boy. Assuming she even has the EEG. I wouldn't be surprised if they just have to go to Florida for pre-wedding nonsense and thus she has to miss her "appointment."

I saw the Reddit thread. I do think there's some sprinklings of truth to that rumor, and here's why:

They left Nashville after being there less than a year, with no real plan. In my experience, if one job isn't working out, you don't quit until you have something else lined up (especially with a wife and baby to support). Bobby's foray into plumbing felt desperate and rushed. His family is white collar and he doesn't strike me as the type who grew up working on cars and remodeling the kitchen with Dad. Attempting a trade is a pretty big course correction for a guy who studied finance.

These are fundies, though. They quit jobs -- decent jobs with health insurance -- to become "tree surgeons" when they decide they don't like having bosses. And that was with many children at home and no intention to ever prevent having more. In other words, fundies aren't known for thinking. I have always concluded that Tori couldn't handle being away from her idiot parents, and she talked Bobby into leaving Nashville.

Bobby didn't study finance. He studied "Bible and youth ministry," which sounds like the fundie version of underwater basket weaving to me. Attempting any real job sounds like a big course correction for someone with Bobby's degree.

How did they define “inappropriate relationships?”

For fundies, that could be anything from "talked to her alone after church" to "had a torrid years-long affair."

This all needs to come with a boulder-sized grain of salt.

I’m going to hell for saying this but by the time Abby relapsed in S14, I had no sympathy for her. She had a history of poor decision making by that point and was always making herself miserable. Even with marriage to a desirable man (from the outside, anyway) and a baby she never seemed happy or thankful for what she had. She chose to have Joe and get married. At the point she decided to keep the baby and eventually marry Luka she needed to realize and accept that life wasn’t all about her anymore. When Luka was gone she should have been supporting him through his grief and the difficulty he was having with his father being ill but instead she chose to start going on drinking benders again and made Luka’s stress all about herself and how hard her life was. Just awful. What on Earth did Luka see in her out of all the women in Chicago who could have been better partners and mothers?

At least Coburn was around to tell Abby to quit her bitching and get on with working recovery.

Scoot over in that hand basket, will you? By the time of Abby's relapse, not only did I have no sympathy for her, I despised her so much that I wished she were in the ambulance.
