Bakers Vs. Fakers - General Discussion
steven T replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Bakers Vs. Fakers
I just don't think the FN knows what to do with the Next Food Network Star winners. They never end up getting their own show, or it doesn't last long and the only thing left is for them to judge various cooking competitions. It should be called the Next Food Network Judge. I'm hoping they don't have another Next Food Network Star because its not needed and a waste of time. Damaris baking expertise is questionable, but she did bake on the show she did have and was creative with her desserts. I guess she is just as qualified as Fuller. -

I don't understand why Damaris was saying the puerto rico bread pudding was not bread pudding. It had bread and was pudding, so where was the issue? Because it wasn't chunks of bread and the texture was different? She was making an issue out of nothing. I noticed the other judge had no comment. -

From the beginning, I thought Cole, Justice, and Kaniyah were the top 3 bakers and the rest were sitcom filler. It is very telling that Audra made her BEST cake of the competition and it still wasn't that good and got her eliminated, yet she made the top 5. Three tablespoons of banana extract? Really? She was making mistakes like that the whole competition, but there someone always worse. I don't hate watch, but disappointed that these kids were nowhere near the talent of the first 2 seasons. -

By seeing the low amount of posts, that people are now tired of this slow ridiculous soap opera. It takes 5 minutes to get 2 lines of dialogue and the plots go around in circles with no end or real sense. I actually liked it the first season but stopped watching and realized that not much has changed. I won't comment on the acting because its the typical pretty boy/girl model stiff acting you see from soaps. i guess the eye candy is the only real reason to watch -

still not understanding why the baker thought he could get by using canned peaches and store bought pastry and i knew he was a baker not faker, because a faker would never be that obvious. i guess his specialty was cakes but it shouldn't have been that hard to make something from scratch. i would be embarrassed if i was him. the rest of the cobblers looked real good. -

I missed this episode but from reading these comments that they couldn't even bake cookies. I'm just curious if they can even put bread in a toaster without it coming out as burnt toast. Amazed if they can put milk in their cereal without it overflowing and flooding the counter. Another poster said their kid was inept in the kitchen, he would've fit right in on this show. You need to put his audition tape in for next season. -
Manbun was Anne's last win.

I've given up on this. Justice was the only one that made something that looked good, even though his flavors were off. This whole season was nothing but a Disney channel sitcom audition. It actually does seem like a comedy and would fit right in. Kids in the kitchen causing mayhem and acting cute and making corny jokes while not knowing how to bake while the laugh track goes crazy. Val and Duff as the over earnest boring parents shaking their heads while giving emotional support and life lessons. -
I agree with others that this season should've been just the rookie chefs. I stopped watching Top Chef after the season Kristen won over Brooke because I find it the most calculated and pre-determined reality show on television and that is saying a lot. I remember Padma on WWHL pretty much giving it away that Kristen would return after the Josie travesty from LCK to reassure furious fans and I knew right then she was going to win. Padma has always seemed fake to me. I'm with others that are thinking Brooke is ordained to win this. I think they should get rid of Last Chance Kitchen. I never liked the idea and never watched it and always hoped the returning chef wouldn't end up winning like Kristen did.

I'm not a fan of cold cut sandwiches so i always cooked or microwaved the meat, whether it was ham, bologna, turkey or roast beef, and I had to have the cheese melted and usually the bread toasted. When I go to Subway I only order hot subs.

Does everything have to have texture and crunch? I hear that all the time on these shows but when I eat a crepe, like one of the cooks prepared, I don't want crunch. I want my strawberry and cream crepe to have a smooth soft texture with no crunch.

I thought maybe i tuned into Worst Bakers In America. They couldn't make brownies with ginger come out right. Even the winner had good brownies with hardly any ginger, second place overbaked, the next baked a blondie, which was stupid, with hardly any ginger and only survived because the eliminated bakers brownie was underbaked. I'm going to start being less harsh on those non talented kids on the Kids Baking Championship after this. -

Well we knew this fiasco was coming when they couldn't bake decent cupcakes or bundt cakes. They should've let them just try to bake an old school dessert instead of making fun of them. Most from this season need to learn the basics. -
The rest of these cooks left seem adequate so i'm not caring who wins. So glad that manic Maria is gone. Anybody with half a brain should be able to tell when you have way too much on a sandwich, and she was proud of it. I'm not sure why they didn't know about boiling the eggs right away, but when you are bad cook, you don't think about it, I guess. They had a recipe to follow so I guess there is no excuse.

I like this show but not sure its coming back for another season. I have to comment from another post, its not just 2 vets that are black, but all 3. They all went to Tuskegee and Dr. Lavigne is black.

Beef tongue is a southern dish. I'm from NC and my grandma use to cook it, and I tried it by mistake thinking it was piece of steak and had to run to the trashcan and spit it out. I was probably 12 at the time. I will never ever eat it again, Mexican, Chinese or Indian style.

I just saw a repeat, I think of the very first episode, and I thought I recognized the con from Indonesia and when they said she was a fashion designer, then I remember her being a Project Runway winner from about 5 years ( i haven't watched the show in years so thats I guess), but i did watch her season. I couldn't remember her name, that's why I wasn't sure. I might be wrong on this, though. I need confirmation. Maybe i'm getting her confused.

I guess I understand why the girl won ( can't remember her name). but I knew she didn't use enough of the hot spice in her cupcake after watching all these baking shows. I just don't get how if you don't really follow the challenge how you can really go forward. I know her cupcake tasted better than the other two, but at least they tried to use the hot spice in them. Of course the cupcakes would taste better leaving the hot spice out which I think for the most part the girl did since she used so little. I feel like if you don't taste any of the heat you should go home. -

The lava cakes looked pretty good and so did the ice-cream even though I expected more swirl. Restating what someone in this or maybe another forum posted, I believe the Food Network has gone crazy with the amount of kid shows. Chopped Jr., Kids Baking Championship, the next kid star, I mean its turning into the Disney Channel. I know FN must be popular with kids viewing, but it was with adult shows. I guess we will start seeing kids flipping houses and selling real estate on HGTV. I like some of the programming but enough is enough. -
I feel bad for Matt. It seems like Anne cared more about him than his own coach Rachel. Anne tried to help him when he was struggling and Rachel could care less. I don't see how Anne is thinking Daniel cares less about being there than anyone else. I guess caring means clowning around and acting dense, crazy and stupid. I'm curious who Rachel is going to save, even though she should've use it for Matt, but for some reason she doesn't care for him. I agree with others that asking these cooks to filet fish every season is crazy. That would scare me. I've never done it, when you can already have it already done for you at the fish market.

This was the first episode where i feel like they did pretty good. I think they were better in this challenge than last seasons contestants. Dylin was the correct one to leave. He really hadn't baked anything well to this point. I'm still hoping they can tighten up on the qualifications and make sure they can be camera ready and bake. -
Jetta couldn't leave fast enough and what did she actually learn? I think she actually got worse. Her knife skills was the only improvement she can take away from her obnoxious appearance on this show. Even though Daniel can seem unpleasant, he actually seems like one of the more real contestants on this show. His attitude actually makes me laugh, even though he's not trying to be dim-witted or funny.

I found nothing noble in Jamie giving up immunity. That's the whole point of the immunity challenge, in case you make a crappy dish. This is a competition, basically a game show and not a reflection of anyone's cooking ability outside of the show. He was embarrassed, but so what. Everyone, including chefs can make bad dishes, its no big deal. Put on your big boy underwear and make a great dish next time. Very frustrating, but at least I don't have to see his ugly tattoos.

Whitney Thore: So She Thinks She Can Dance
steven T replied to Meredith Quill's topic in My Big Fat Fabulous Life
I remember seeing the previews for this show, the first season and said i would never watch it. It looked like the typical nonsense that TLC has been programming. Lo and behold, I went channel surfing and nothing else was on so I stopped and saw this Whitney girl talking to college students. I could already tell this girl was in denial and very delusional. The only thing that kept me watching the show was I recognized some of the streets and wondered if this was based out of Greensboro, where I use to live, and it was. I didn't realize this was a marathon and I ended up torturing myself watching this girl cry, justify and be denial for the whole season, just because i wanted to see the scenery and streets of Greensboro. I know that's a stupid reason to watch but the viewing options were limited. I'm still debating whether i will watch the current season, but that tired lesbian storyline looks too sorry for words, like the rest of the show. Maybe if they bring back the mean female comedienne I will watch, but other than that, I can't even hate watch this mess anymore. -
I can't stand the bacon on everything. It does not make it better. It just makes everything taste like bacon and I'm not a bacon lover. i don't even like it on my hamburgers. They will also use a lot of butter which I like a little better, but can be overdone as well.
