Ugh, I'm sorry to hear that @Harvester - I hope it all works out.
-
Enjoy your week off @dusky @Loandbehold - I hope all goes well with the tours and your mom and that you're able to find somewhere you're all happy with.

@KittenPokerCheater - I'm glad you hung in there this week, but I'm sorry it was exhausting. I kind of agree with Darkpook that it may be time to stop trying. If you don't mind my asking, how do you respond when he is being disrespectful or dismissive? I tell myself that if I don't respect someone, I don't care what they think about me. I also had to learn that certain people don't automatically deserve respect, they need to earn it. That doesn't mean the offending person's behavior doesn't upset me at times, and I realize this is much more difficult with relatives. I had some very trying times with a family member. The disrespect shown towards me was absolutely astounding. There was no reasoning with this person, but I kept trying. I did everything possible to appease this person and, after a time, I realized no matter what I said or did, it would be wrong. I kept trying for some time after that and it was exhausting. One day though, it became absolutely clear nothing would matter, so I stopped trying. Right now we are on speaking terms and things are ok, but I know that will only be until they aren't again. Try not to let things get to you, KPC. I don't know you as well as others here, but from what I've seen and what they say, you seem like a great person. So don't ever let anyone make you doubt that. You can't change anyone's behavior but your own, so try your best to not let it negatively affect you. Vibes to @Harvester

Everyone that loves their LED bulbs - please share your brand/type with me. The ones I tried were Cree daylight. I'm going to put them back and give it another go to see if I can adjust. If I still don't like them, I'll see if I can get soft white, but I'm up for recommendations because I don't really want to buy another bunch that I may not like because of the price.
-
That's great you're able to that. It must save a lot of money and, while it's a lot of work, you probably have more control if you want to change things as you go along. Plus, it sounds like it's something you enjoy. I even manage to guess slowly. I'm sorry to hear about your father-in-law @LittleVoice - you and your family will be in my thoughts.

Yikes, Erratic. That's a lot of work you've done. Are you able to do any of the work yourselves or are you hiring people to do that? I can only manage small projects myself. I wish I were more handy. One of my friends is doing a lot of work in her home remodeling and has all kinds of stories about what they "uncover" that the previous owner did. I don't like the coil lights either. The ones I bought looked like regular light bulbs. I'll try some soft white and see if that's any better. Maybe I just need to leave the ones I have in for a couple of weeks to see if I can adjust. @Earl Is Dead - how did you manage to get so fast at trivia? Wasn't it you a couple of weeks ago that asked about that? And many good job changing vibes @Erratic!

I bought LED lights and tried them out in the living room. The light from them was too harsh. I couldn't get used to it. I think they sell the same brand in a soft white. I may give those a try.

Relatives - I bet we all have a few that are exhausting to deal with. Two spring right to mind for me. Hang in there KPC. That's a lot of people at the walk through AnnieF. I hope you're having a bit of a celebration after. As far as plans go, I'm hoping to take a long weekend. Just waiting for the boss to approve that. We're having a small party for my mom's birthday and I'll take the extra time to catch up on a few things.
-
You all seemed so normal until today! ...backing away slowly... Good luck on the closing @AnnieF - that's so exciting.

That's interesting. I didn't sense she was afraid of him, but more that she was proud of what he did. When he tried to talk to her earlier when she was rummaging around fixing things in her daughter's (?) room, she wouldn't even acknowledge him. Then, after the beating occurred, he all of a sudden existed in her eyes and she was trying very hard to talk to him. I'll have to rewatch those scenes now to see if things look differently. If we saw more of their relationship beforehand, it would be clearer.
-
Enjoy the shore, Earl. I'm taking a day off to extend the weekend but don't have plans to go anywhere. You too, cko - that's a nice stretch. Do you have any plans? I never heard of the festival before. It looks great. I'm very tempted to take you up on your offer if I can get up the courage (I'm somewhat shy about meeting people) and get my schedule sorted. It sounds like it will be a lot of fun and it would be nice to meet some of you.

Done! Not risking that. And while we're on the topic, Oh, I wouldn't feel right prioritizing your queue. I did finish the first season - only six eps. It doesn't have a lot of action or humor, the pace has been described in reviews as glacial, but somehow it just drew me in. I found the story and characters interesting and I want to see where it goes. I thought it was very well done. It's definitely worth giving a shot. That's great you're making so much progress with the play, KPC. That seems like an awful lot to memorize. How long before it begins? Not much into sports, so haven't been following the world cup and can't contribute there.

I'm new to the show. Watched the first season and ep 1 of the second season this weekend. The show can be a little intense at times, but I'm hooked. This is about Amantha from Sarah's post and accurately sums up my level of annoyance with the character. There are many unlikeable characters on this show, but she has annoyed me from scene 1. I'm not sure why. It may be because I feel like I've seen this character type too often (not exactly the same, but Deb Morgan springs to mind) and I'm just tired of this type of portrayal. I don't think they showed how the decision to beat up Daniel came about. I do think the son did it on his own too, but not because of the mother holding onto her grief (although, that may be a part of it). I think he did it because he was nonexistent in his mother's eyes. Now he's done something worthy as far as she is concerned and she's acknowledging him. He does seem conflicted. Although Daniel and his mother have a strange/distant relationship - her inability to hug him in the scene where he completely breaks down as an example - I think the mother showed her loyalty when she asked Daniel to help renovate the kitchen. Earlier her husband mentioned to Ted that they were thinking of asking Daniel to leave and how difficult that would be to do. I think in that scene the mother was about to do so but couldn't go through with it and asked him to help with the kitchen instead. I think the guy who killed himself may have testified that he saw Daniel commit the murder which, if he did, would have been a lie based on his conversation before he shot himself. I think he shot himself because everything was going to open up and he clearly couldn't go through it again. The prosecutor made a comment to the senator along the lines of how it would be nice if the sheriff could track down the one witness who saw/testified that Daniel committed the murder. I took that to mean the guy who killed himself. I could be misremembering that though.

I wouldn't say depressing. It's somewhat strange and a bit intense at times. It may turn out to be too intense for me, but right now I'm hooked. There were only 6 eps in the first season. I don't watch comedies often, but heard The Mindy Project is good. I thought I heard it was canceled though. Not sure about that. That speech seemed pretty funny.

Glad you enjoyed the show Valny. Sounds like you had a really nice day. That's great everything is getting done. No $2,500 or other allowance here. The only thing I managed to get the sellers to do, after a lot of negotiating, was to take a couple of thousand off so I could make some repairs (roof, etc.). Things like a fireplace cleaning were my responsibility. I had a lot of cleaning to do, had to repaint and pull all the carpet and do the flooring. I knew that going in though. I don't regret any of it. I'm very happy here. Sorry to hear about the summer school. The timing of that certainly isn't good with the move. Have a great time at the wedding buffyjunkie. Over the past years, I've tried to attend more family gatherings. It's so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day and forget to make the time. Not sure if I'll watch Orphan Black tonight or tomorrow. No later than tomorrow though. Anyone watching Rectify? I was listening to Extra Hot Great and it was mentioned. It's about a man who was convicted for rape and murder as a teenager, was on death row but released due to DNA evidence. It's in the second season, but I'm only up to ep 3 of the first season. So far I'm finding it interesting.

I've watched a lot of series through Netflix after they have finished airing, Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Deadwood, Carnivale, Homicide - I'll stop now. I've started other series, like Orphan Black, Justified, Once Upon a Time, and Breaking Bad (again, I'll stop) through Netflix, caught up and then watched live. Part me of likes watching live and having the time between episodes to think about things and discuss. Another part of me likes to just go through the series at my own pace. I definitely think it changes the experience. In addition to very long breaks between shows, what I don't like is all the weird breaks that seem to happen more frequently now. Shows seem to disappear for weeks or months at a time, then another ep or two will air and then the show will be gone for another few months. If I'm watching live, I prefer a normal schedule. @AnnieF - are the sellers being reasonable with repairs? You mentioned they were minor. When I bought, there was a bit of back and forth because the sellers didn't want to do much. It makes it a lot easier if the sellers are willing to work with you.

@Harvester - I hope you're feeling better soon. Sounds like a very interesting career LnB. Happy Friday!
-
Feeling much better - thanks everyone. Heh. In this particular instance yes. Sending vibes to KPC for an anxiety free and pleasant week. @Loandbehold - I think you may have mentioned it before, but what area of law do you practice? I watched the first season through Netflix recently and am now watching live. How long between seasons? Like BBC Sherlock long?
-
The migraine has let up! Sometimes they last for a couple of days. Rather unpleasant. I hope you enjoy some of your father's visit @KittenPokerCheater and it's not too stressful.
-
I can now chime in with annoying - migraine! @Valny - how was the show? I can't believe this Saturday is the finale of Orphan Black. That went really fast. That will be 3 shows wrapped up this week for me. The others being Fargo and Orange is the New Black.
-
Congrats on all of the inspections going well. Nothing exciting planned this week. Hoping to take a day or two off next week though and am looking forward to that. I'm right there with you in the slowness department. Part of it for me is using the trackpad on the laptop - a bit of a spaz with that - but really I'm just a slow reader. Congrats @KittenPokerCheater - Great news. @buffyjunkie - that's great you're trying out the drawing classes. Enjoy. It's nice to carve out some time and do something just for yourself. I've been telling myself for years that I should go back to guitar lessons. One of these days... It's nice to see all the good news - new beds, new houses, new plays, new classes and family get togethers. Hope everyone's week goes well. Off to watch Fargo.
-
That's sounds like fun @AnnieF - enjoy! Wow. To me that's incredibly hot. I think we''ll be in the low 80s around here which is more in my comfort zone. Have a great weekend everyone.
-
Good luck @Erratic - many job changing vibes heading your way.
-
Me three? From my experience, "they" are never the problem and seldom learn. Just caught up last night. There are many WTF moments in that show. Surprised the finale is next week. ETA: Battle with quote tags

Me too! I was just about to post that. I'm glad I wasn't the only one. Well acquainted with nincompoop. Just don't remember where from. I'll be on the lookout with the cartoons now.
