  1. I’ve watched all of the episodes over the years and have a handful of favorites, “Queen of the Nile’ being one of them. I watched it again tonight and  have always wondered why an actress with a foreign accent (Celia Losky was born in Vienna) was chosen to play the mother/daughter, especially since the daughter/actress (Ann Blyth) mentions early on in the episode that they were from Iowa or Ohio.  A child born to an immigrant would likely have no accent if raised in the U.S. even if a parent did, but this relationship is turned around.

  2. Maybe I should wait for the upcoming final episode that may or may not explain everything, but, for now, without going back and rewatching the previous episodes, I just cannot recollect the whole “Wheeler” character and that situation.  I get most of the stories, and but If someone would be so kind to explain it in a nutshell before ep. 6 that would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

I realize that TV can expropriate names and locales for dramatic purposes, but "Madera AFB" made me laugh.  I live a ways south of the actual Madera, CA, and it's a small town mostly dedicated to the surrounding agricultural businesses.

When I first heard the fictitious AFB name I, too, thought they said Madera, but the closed captions say “Ladera AFB” (every time it is mentioned).  Ironically, had it been/or is Madera AFB, the now closed Castle AFB at Merced, CA is  just down the road from Madera, CA.  But then, maybe the closed captions are wrong and it is Madera, Dowel Jones.

Veronica is supposed to be in her teens?

Googled the actress, she is 26. Steve McQueen was 28 when he played a teen in the original “The Blob”.

What I like about it is that Falk keeps sitting on Vaughn's lap every chance he gets. And Mr Vaughn does not look to happy about it at all. And I loved that Columbo recruited that diver to come back at nine at night to do a deep dive and it's his first day diving. And he does it!

One of my favorite episodes.  Yes, Vaughn was so annoyed with Colombo--made me laugh out loud each time Colombo got too close.

I did mean Levi.  thank you

Oh blech. "The Case of the Broken-Hearted Bride" aired this past Sunday. Why are most of Perry's clients such petulant whiners?

And please, PLEASE tell me that they were NOT inferring that Caitlyn was Perry's child?! I must have missed all that subtext and constant lines about how her father really loved her and she reallllyyyyy loved her father and that her mother and Perry "knew" each other back in the day when Caitlyn's parents were going through a rough patch.

Oh Really? Must have been offscreen, because I don't remember Perry EVER being involved with anyone during the show's initial run--and this "relationship" along with the one with Jean Simmons's character, would have taken place then.

I thought this too--must’ve been offscreen, if so, but I doubt it.  Kinda like no explanation where Paul Drake, Jr. came from, and not explaining his departure when they added Ken Malansky.

There's just WAY too much going on here that there's no answer for, the show is compounding mystery on top of mystery and it's all just a baffling mess

I still think this is all on purpose, they don't have any idea of what they want or where they want to go, so they throw everything in there, will solve some of the issues, answer some questions but those answers will be contradictory, without continuity and make no sense.

I agree--so very convoluted--way too many plots.   I’m trying to hang on, though, and keep watching.  When Manifest went to (or will be on) Netflix, or Apple, or wherever the next season will be, I was so disappointed as I don’t subscribe to those services, but looking back on how convoluted it is, as well, I don’t think I will miss it.  I could probably stop watching LaBrea and feel the same way.  You don’t miss what you don’t have.

Wolf Snack really is dumber than a door knob.

I need my memory refreshed--why do we call Wolf Snack “Wolf Snack”??

  10. I’m enjoying MeTV’s current run of the Perry Mason Movies; however, I have to say that at least to me it seems that Perry’s personality has become much more serious, and grouchy, not as friendly.  And, he seems to be on the snippy side with Della--I don’t like that.  And I don’t like that they switched Ken Malansky for Paul Drake, Jr.

The show was cutting edge for showing new technology for the time.

I forget which episode, but was somewhat amused when Colombo was so facinated by the new-fangled gadget called a “fax” machine, until the secretary explained it was a “facsimile” machine, and how it worked.

The thing he does with his mouth (like a elderly person who doesn’t have any teeth) is distracting.

I agree, very distracting-- maybe supposed to be a trait of the character, or maybe there are teeth missing.  And the scruffy beard makes it worse, you never see his teeth.

Also, was it decided that there were only two plane tickets purchased, or three? Knowing now that Emily was Hamzad’s child, she would have been the third ticket, but I thought Chase told Harper that there were only two.

Zoe’s makeup does look pasty and overdone.

John Lithgow reminds me of Rudy Giuliani (looks only).  I loved Lithgow in both Harry and the Hendersons and the evil bad buy in Cliffhanger.

There’s  an article link somewhere here that mentioned that the writers wanted to explore the concept that Emily/Angela effectively has two dads, and the nature of her relationships with each of them. Having both of them call her kiddo might be a somewhat clunky way of emphasizing this.

Just a thought--what if Abbey’s Afghan husband (Hamzad? I get the names mixed up) is Emily/Angela’s father? Abbey could have been pregnant when Dan stole her away.  This is all without checking timelines, etc. Just a thought.

The actor playing the young version of him just doesn’t have the allure that Jeff Bridges had at that age. I keep picturing younger Jeff Bridges playing the part from what I’ve seen in his movies.

I watched Jeff Bridges recently in “Starman”, one of my all time favorites.  I keep expecting him to do the special little bird-like twitches and broken English like Starman did.  He and Karen Allen were magic.

  15. Tonight I watched the Perry Mason TV movie (#10) “The Case of the Lethal Lesson” on MeTV.  I read on IMDB trivia that this was the first movie without Paul Drake, Jr., but there was no mention or explanation of his leaving the story lines, or at least if so I missed it.  And speaking of Paul Drake, Jr., I don’t recall how he was written into the TV movies to start with.  I’ve watched all the old Perry Mason episodes several times over, and don’t recall Paul Drake ever having a son.  Was this mentioned somewhere along the line, and I missed it? Would appreciate knowing, if anyone knows this, just for my curiosity. Thanks.

They also run the TV series twice a day, 9 am and 11pm (different episodes) EST M-F. If you can't get get enough there, The Sundance channel shows them Thursday, 1-6am and Friday, 2-6am EST.

ddtruman:  All my sources... And, all the old Colombo episodes are right up there with Perry Mason, in my book--lawyer, cop, they go hand in hand, almost.

  17. Ghost of TWOP Past--Best summary ever of our Perry Mason.  I’ve watched the early episodes from #1 to #271 probably eight or ten times.  When nothing else is on t.v., there is always Perry Mason.  MeTV is running all the Perry Mason movies and I just watched The Case of the Sinister Spirit--one of the best movies/episodes ever, so suspenseful and fun to watch--shades of The Shining, and Ten Little Indians, sort of.

You know that is a CGI and rubber Octopus. A real Octopus would have escaped out of the tank 5 minutes after you put it in there.

Yes, of course, I know--they are highly intelligent--but it still made 42 lovable and fun to watch.
