  1. Mr. Johnson has been grating on me for a while. It's just too much.

I was convinced we were going to find out that Questlove got briefed on exactly what Ava told everyone else--he'd be doing this as a favor to someone, or something like that.

  2. I was contemplating how they keep emphasizing that they want dancers who can immediately get a job, and I can't help but feel like there's not a ton of jobs out there for contemporary dancers. (Though, of course, those dancers are usually well cross-trained.)

I'm also vaguely annoyed at the dancers auditioning who are already professional dancers (e.g., backup for Katy Perry).

Didn't they tell her she could teach at Abbott twice a week?

She was told that she could "be at Abbott" twice a week; I interpreted that as her being there in a district capacity, not as her teaching.

I know Manny from The Other Two, and he gives off the same vibe here--super nice if a bit dim. Though he, unlike the other district folks, seems to have some understanding of procedure, etc.

  4. I thought the top two layers of Justine's cake looked amazing, but I also felt like she tended to fall back on decorating cookies throughout the season, and then using cookies as decorations for whatever the challenge was. I guess I'd like to have seen more cake decorating.

Still, pleased with the outcome. Ashley's cake looked phenomenal. I would've loved to have tried that or Kevin's, particularly.

  5. I've seen similar icing styles to how Matty decorated his cake. I don't think he executed it too terribly well, but I can see what he was going for. I did like the colors of it.

I was pleased for Matty, who has come on quite strong the past few weeks. I do feel like you almost have a better chance if you start off middling and clearly get better as the competition goes on than if you start off wowing the judges. I felt for Josh, who looked a bit gutted after the announcement. They're all really good guys.

  6. Re: Dan. Though I don't remember which weeks, I remember a few times where it did seem like he probably should've gone or been in the bottom two, but Paul seemed to want to keep him. Paul has his favorites every year; this year, it's Dan. I think Josh is the best, most consistent of the bakers left, and he's the one I'm rooting for. That said, Dan seems to be cheering for everyone else, and his helping Tasha at the end of the show-stopper was heart-warming.

  7. Very annoyed at the episode getting my hopes up about Steve and Anna Leigh leaving. (I don't like Lena and Morgan, either, but apparently wanted them to make it through.)

Honestly, Steve is coming off worse to me. At the end of the previous leg, Anna Leigh acknowledged that she wasn't handling things well and shouldn't have lashed out, but Steve had absolutely no contrition and I found his behavior just as bad as hers. And in this leg, as soon as she started to melt down about being in last, he just yelled at her. He's awful.

Slovenia is gorgeous and I 100% want to do that zip line, but could absolutely not do those stairs.

The double entendre stuff is tiresome and childish.  They lose it over beavers, balls and nuts and it seems forced and not genuine.

I think a fair amount of it is genuine, but this episode's nuts jokes definitely felt forced, in a way that they mostly haven't this season.

And they definitely said there was cream cheese in the cheesecake.

But anyone who thinks they can be on this show should have a buttercream recipe in their pocket. Hell, the kids on Kids Baking Championship know how to make it. What's Matty's excuse?

I've watched enough baking comps where professional bakers have their buttercream curdle to not be surprised at it happening here. (Same with multiple tries to get caramel correct.)

  10. I do find Matt and Jag's relationship fairly endearing. I'm not rooting for them, but I also don't find them offensive.

I almost threw something at the tv for Cam's "That's Shakespeare." Ugh. He's just so condescending. Even if Cory goes next week at Matt and Jag's hand, Cory still made the right move by not trying to save Cam.

  11. Cory did get the 26th and 27th amendments mixed up. I was only vaguely paying attention, but my husband noticed. (26 is voting for 18-year-olds; 27 is something about voting for pay increases in Congress.)

  12. Jared remains completely aggravating. His behavior is awful, particularly how he treats Blue. I'm no Cam fan, but am definitely rooting for him to come back.

The Cirie/Felicia fight was interesting. I mean, sure, Felicia lied about her final two with Jared, but she was right to be pissed off about how betrayed Jared and Cirie acted after she voted out Jared. They LITERALLY just were trying to get her out.

Loved America's face as she reacted to the fight, though.

I really like the idea that Nandor has been putting off making Guillermo a vampire because he thinks that he wouldn't really want to be one, at least partially. I kind of guessed that actually killing and eating a human would be hard for Guillermo so while its the return to the status quo I expected, it made a lot of sense in the way that good stories can.

I panicked for a moment when Guillermo first drank blood and then got super into it--it just seemed really out of character. So seeing how he reacted in the moment of having to kill a human made sense.

  14. I did appreciate them going into Scraps's/Roland's backstory, because honestly, the premise was really bothering me. The ending was a LOT. And hard agree on the season needing a goal or something.

Since this is the last season, though, I imagine it'll end with a bang.

Yes, why on earth did Hiram say he didn't hear the slur? He clearly did and there is nothing to gain by lying.

I thought it looked like he had that same expression for the whole conversation; I didn't really notice his face change.

Don't have enough time to formulate all my thoughts, but -

First I must say how much I loved that Mackenzie's brother was played by David Lascher!  (Ted McGriff from "Hey Dude" as well as many network TV movies back in the 90s that I loved.)  Please, I need more David Lascher on my screen!!

Holy crow! From Sabrina, too! Yes, more of him on my tv!

Overall, I do think they stuck the landing. After a season of Brooke and Cary getting worse and worse and having moment after moment of almost realizing how awful they were being, I could accept both of them having these epiphanies. I love that Curtis pointed out how Cary was not only to him, but to his friends. That felt so real, and good for Curtis! I'm glad that Cary and Brooke are both in a better place, but see that they have work to do. (Well, maybe Cary more than Brooke.)

It's not just the order of the flag, though. Rainbows have an actual color order... one I assumed everyone learned in primary school. It's just plain weird to make a rainbow dessert with the colors next to each other like that and NOT put it in order. It's totally a valid criticism.

Duff even pointed it out--ROY G BIV. I was annoyed that Damaris walked it back a bit. My husband also immediately pointed out the wrong order of the colors.

When I saw what John was doing, I was like, "So...a cake?" and then I got concerned that the judges would overlook it. I was very glad they didn't.

I also thought Anrika's pavlova was going to flop, but it clearly tasted good, and her decoration covered the problems enough.
