I was thinking about who I'd rather lose than Bobby. Jonathan, while a lot, and I hope this all makes him happy, does try hard to improve their heroes. Not so much with Antoni. He seems nice and is easy on the eyes, and I think he has a cookbook, but it doesn't translate the same helpful way that it does with the others. The dog likes him, though.

I was watching old shows with my daughter who missed a lot traveling years ago. Antoni cooked a lot more in the early shows, it was shortened more and more as time went on.Sometimes it was simple, sometimes a little too hard I thought but he had a larger role.

From some "behind the scenes" messages online, it seems editing has been worse. Not sure why. What they choose to show etc.

Alison (ex nun) on Reddit (said verified) told a lot about her experience and said very much was cut out and she worried until it was shown over a year later, what it would look like. Editing is an art, but sometimes it makes someone look a certain way or whole scenes are left out. Having 60 people in your home vs the 5 you see is something to adjust to also. Even the clothes they showed with her, (I didn't like most) weren't the only ones but although she liked them, they werent chosen. I don't like that. Did they want more risque because she was an 'ex nun" Ex doesn't mean she's some crazy, "I want to be 100% different" person. She's the same, just took a different path. I can link it if anyone is interested. I think to help her charities, she figured she would answer questions, especially about her being repressed etc (she's not, she chose Catholicism  as an adult and still goes to church) I'm looking into her work more when I have time. Very interesting and she thought they'd highlight it more, but the "dates" were picked. I felt it didn't fit at all, she wasn't anxious for a date but that sells I guess for an episode. If they keep doing that, they'll lose what made them special.

Finished the season.  Loved the finale, not sure about the one with the former nun.  I get that she wanted a full makeover/re-do, but she's crunchy to the core.  It's like a full 180 lifestyle.

My daughter's boyfriend knows a mutual friend since he is studying  theology and philosophy. She did a nice interview with America magazine back when she was a nun. Not as nervous or giggly.

  3. For me, with Doreen,  it wasn't whether the Netflix crew stole things (or someone else at night) but her anger was so overwhelming and vague in her accusations online. I'm sure someone told her to take down the posts. (lawyer, family) I felt and I know I'm maybe in the minority, she hated everything. The clothes (and I agree) were not her at all, and didn't look good. Her hair, it looked fine but NOT easy to upkeep. She liked braids because they were easier. My daughter is biracial and she got braids to travel for a month because she likes the look and it's one less thing to do everyday.

Why did the nominator want the candy store fixed if no desire was to open it? It takes permits and insurance and money for products and she never did that herself, her mom did. Even the pastries weren't something she seemed comfortable doing. It just felt "off" the whole show. I googled after and found out more but I feel bad that she totally dissed all of the. The Fab 5 are not mentioned in her social media and it was like they never came. She didn't say "the guys were fine but the staff was awful" I just feel bad an episode was wasted on someone who really didn't enjoy it. The publicity helps but at this point, not really needed.

I thought they did a great physical makeover with Doreen, hair and clothes. I'm sorry she didn't think the experience was that great.

They also made the Kiss guy look about 300% better. I wonder what happened with Gene Simmons that a cameo didn't work out. Scheduling? Or it didn't go that great and they edited it out?

I'll miss Bobby, He does a great job. I've wanted him to come fix up my apartment. I hope they find someone equally on target.

I don't think they asked him or he said No. He was asked to be on the old show in 2004 and said he liked it but it never happened. (at least I don't remember him doing it) I'm sure $$ had a lot to do with it and they can't pay him what he would get for other things I'm sure. I thought even a video of him thanking him for being a fan would have been great. Even if not Gene, anyone in the group.

  5. I skipped around and watched the one with the ex nun. Mixed bag but liked it much more than some others. The "date" thing could have been left out, bit silly at her age and she is a well rounded, smart woman. She is a lawyer, advocate, loves God, knows herself, can talk to anyone. I'm glad she got instruction on how to give to herself too and dress a little more flashy (if she wants) but I loved how she pinned some cleavage in a scene. We all don't like the same things. She will be fine and I liked her and would love her as a neighbor. I also loved how her home was so adorable, a rent I think but very nice. They fix up a lot of rentals but hers didn't need much. She was a type A for sure. lol

I thought it was a little passive/aggressive that they replaced her dresser with labels on it with a wicker one that she couldn't do that with. If that is an issue, it's a small one. I saw more of her background on her linkedin page and she should be proud of her accomplishments and time in convent.

    his brother Doody had passed.

What an amazing guy Tim was to have stepped up and done so much for his brother over all those years.

    Spoiler

Sometimes when you can for someone a long time you can have trouble adjusting, lost of mission, guilt for feeling "free", sadness over the death. I hope he gets help if he needs it. Seemed like a nice guy and good brother and dad.

We watched this one today and loved it too.  What an amazing, talented lady Doreen is!

I found it hard to watch having googled the episode. She complained a lot about stolen things and "mess the producers left" The candy store which isn't open was a mess so I don't know what she meant but Bobbys response and hers has been removed, but only screenshots of them left. She mentions nothing of them which is a first I think, in her social media pages and nothing about the store. It seemed except to highlight her wonderful talent a waste of a show. They should have just stuck with making her a studio or maybe something else but it left a bad taste. I am underwhelmed with all but 3 of them this season which is short. It's hard to know she had a bad experience but it was sure to happen at some point.

  7. KISS episode was not as overwhelming to me because I felt a level of sadness throughout the show that culminated in a mixed ending. I wont give spoilers but I was shocked reading this that Gene wasn't given a cameo this episode. I guess he wanted his own. Sad though because his "biggest fan" would have loved it. Someone on Reddit said most of his KISS stuff is in a spare room dedicated to that and although the guys didn't watch their makeover this time, they did a good job. I had criticism of the gallery thing but wont comment until more see it.

  8. Oh it started! I will have to catch up. I kept looking and then forgot with other things going on. ; )  Yes, I'll miss Bobby but inside politics and other things he wants to do take precedence, I wish him well. I see him on commercials now.

I did see a review that said it was getting tired now and some of the emotion seemed gone, they are dong too much of the same, "didn't we see this " type of thing. I'll make my own decision but it is hard to keep it fresh especially going to the same areas. I still love them though.

    UPDATE

I really liked it, they were very "real". I thought the conversations for the most part, seemed natural and his reaction to the home makeover was very emotional and touching. They wont have updates with them (like Kenny) because they are private and off social media, but I know they'll be fine with many good memories.

No plow and seed for 10 acres on credit for you Pa.

Then the very next episode has his child in same store saying "Pa always says cash on the barrel", over a penny slate pencil. 😂

Hard to believe the first episode had the girls getting a penny and then soon after they are so poor they can't afford a pencil. Something I noticed years ago was just about every other person in Walnut Grove was better off. They were always buying things at the store, widows especially, but Charles working (sadly) as a farmer, working at the mill, being able to fix wheels and build cupboards and all that. It seemed they lived on Ma's brown eggs sometimes.   Luckily the other well off people in WG could buy them. : )

I didn't mind the "little house" it wss the focus of the show for many years but it was odd as he added kids etc. that everyone else's home was nicer and bigger and had "rooms". The Garvey's had doors to their room too! Mrs Whipple's home was nice and she kept that up with just sewing. The Sanderson's had a nice home, just about everyone but Mr Edwards. lol  The very rich had the homes like the Widow Thurman or Harriet but even the pig farmer had a nice house.

I know there were taxes to pay , but they grew a lot of their food or caught it, they needed money for fabric and yarn, Charles needed his coffee, animals but their level of poverty seemed odd compared to others. Maybe if he made it more even.

Controversial opinion: other than the cringey dream sequences, "The Godsister" is a decent episode. The telephone line construction storyline is pretty good.

The subplot was fine, I felt bad for the Greenbush twins when I read (maybe falsely) that ML did that 90 minute show to hush up their parents who wanted a little more air time. I thought it odd to do 90 but then was reminded that they weren't shown often, I hardly ever see them in the rotations. He knew they wouldn't rerun a 90 min show on summer time when the slot was 60. If that is true, it's not nice and the script was horrible for Carrie, Someone wrote that dribble. They also had Ma and the girls unusually angry with Carrie. I'm not a writer but I think any of us could have written her script better. The twins also said in an interview they were proud he only did one take for some scenes, he said they didn't need to do more. Was that to make it bad?. Was it her age? I think as you said, the show is made worse than it was.

That said, I do believe Katherine had the idea for the phone, she gave Michael ideas ALL the time. She pushed others to do the same, although they did it usually only once. (Charlotte Stewart, Hersha and Karen were 3) She had some good ideas, like falling in the stream with the blind children and other things. I don't think it happened all at once, but rehearsing she might have thrown it in even if he nixed it before. I so wish I could read her bio. ; )

  11. I think it was a sweet episode (again Ma gets nothing) but not being a seamstress at all, can you make 2 long girl dresses from one adult? I know Ma was a whiz, but hand sewing 2 dresses and all the trim in one evening, well a little LHOP magic.

I admit though, I know little, since I'd be wearing burlap sacks being all thumbs with a needle and thread : )

Mike wasn't great with any consistency and seemed to forget what was written before. Having shows a week apart and reruns only in the summer or holiday's helped some not notice.

I was laughing at "cash on the barrel" Ingalls always forgot that when he wanted too and then saw this on Reddit. Might be a laugh for some of you. I laughed outloud at the the comments about poor Harriet not being moved enough to give Charles credit, "I guess the tight pants didn't do it for her"

  12. Did Laura ever get punished in the TV show? She did  lot of things and was threatened but I don't recall anything. She took off at night to do things and Charles was upset, she bothered the guy in the old house and he got upset and she did other things to people but only had to apologize. She ran away and caused them great angst over baby Charles and then made Albert miserable so he left because she didn't learn the world didn't rotate around her. She thought selling fake medicine to people was a good idea and just had to apologize. If Mary did anything wrong, even once, she was punished. If Laura did the fire in the barn, she'd be yelled and that would be it. If Mary stole the music box, she'd still be grounded. lol  It's okay to steal and break something because the person you took it from isn't nice. All those speeches from Pa never took hold and lying got her another apology and Nellie getting in trouble. (I realize she was mean and Nellie should just have told Charles but then Charles would have to punish Laura) That could not happen!

  13. Yes and they better not sucker punch with something else. Nose bleeds can be common with kids and they did the blood disease already. Don't make the single mom have the sick kid....but that doesn't seem the CTM writing usually. They aren't soap opera which I appreciate. How they handle Matthew.....time will tell. I already forgot about Lucille and hope they keep Cyril and slowly just have them divorce and move on.

So the big Colette nosebleed story during the wedding was just fixed like that? Or will it come up again as something more serious?

They are still talking about it, wasn't she at the table with kleenex up her nose? I don't like another child sick episode especially the only child of one of the midwives but time will tell. They did leukemia already, I just hope it's nosebleeds but showing it, gave me pause.

  15. Do the new episodes start in US January or later?  Last year I think it was March. I know the tabloids were noting Trixie's hubby missing from filming but time will tell with that. I was a little put off by it at first, but contracts and other things we don't know about will be the deciding factor. I love the show with him or without him but it does bring gossip when a big tadoo is done and then the headlines.

I always love the Xmas special and it brings me down from the activities and stress if any from the day, my sister and I send texts about the plot and they are my TV friends. Sure there are things to complain about but for me little and compared to most TV shows, none. : )

That is usually my complaint, so maybe I was tired or because I didn't watch it all in one stretch, that I didn't find it as bad as usual. Although when I did resume watching, my PVR had jumped way ahead so I was swearing for a minute that they edited it a lot. Luckily I rewound and saw the whole episode and thought it was better than usual, and that is high praise from me.

Midwives do though, don't they? Didn't they kill off Barbara at Christmas? It seems to me there were a couple Christmas episodes in a row which were total downers.

Barbara died at the end of the season but the Xmas special had Trixie come and take her midwife outfit.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-6529783/Viewers-left-drowning-tears-Call-Midwife-Christmas-special.html

Maybe Colette wont be thought of much but SMJ whom I like but has been given bad, erratic scripts, might be her "nanny" being close to her now.  The scripts for her are not the best and repetitive and I would think the writers would do better.

Thanks for finding the painting for us @HappyHanna, saved me a lot of hunting. I actually don't see any wings on the little one who is kneeling over the manger and I think he looks just like the shepherd who is center back.  I wouldn't tell anyone in Poplar that, though.

I agree that they tried to pack a little too much in.  My TV plays the background music too loudly and I think I heard, "big emotional conclusion" music about eight times. It still made me cry even when I knew I was being manipulated.  Darn show.

This explains a bit more. They do say "shepherd and angel". I think Reggie can come off pushy but he's worthy of having opinions and I'm sure I've seen times when he was told No. I would hate to see him treated like he was 4 all the time even with disability. https://www.rifton.com/adaptive-mobility-blog/blog-posts/2013/october/down-syndrome-art-paintings

Lack of Moral Fiber was new to me but "British".

Lack of Moral Fibre (LMF) was a punitive designation used by the Royal Air Force during the Second World War to stigmatize aircrew who refused to fly operations12. The term was also applied to World War II pilots who snapped under the strain of combat and refused to fly, and were then accused of lack of moral fiber3. The term refers to ethical courage and dates back to the second half of the 1800s

  18. I know Mike helped a lot of the kids and interacted with Alison a lot but Jon? He must have, they had a lot of scenes together and he gave him more work later with a wife. She'll be at reunion, do I dare ask how they ended up...just bye or did he keep in touch. They probably already warned her though...no talking about him.

A guy on another LHOP forum, just said he knew someone who worked on the set and no pictures of Jon after 20 were real. Most were obvious but it's funny how no one on LHOP would say "That's not Jon" They just ignored it. Melissa knows her brother. She said she saw him twice since he left but it's been a long time I think.  If was he homeless, abused, changed name, not a big deal. They can say he moved on, hates get togethers and is fine. Why lie?  It wasn't just his sister, it was family. I agree, Mike had bad press but not that bad. Some hated him, some put up with him, some loved him. Jon was small potatoes, they aren't protecting him. . It seems Melissa and Alison picked on Jon and others on the set (maybe why Melissa lSue liked him and Carrie had a crush on him) Just my take, it's more about them than him.

If he is in the US and didn't lose hair or gain 300 pounds, and was Jon Gilbert, someone would see that "Willie" smile over 50 years and think "is that who I think it is?

Very odd and after reading the interviews, they were so honest and I wondered if the author left some things out. He didn't answer that.

I'm beginning to wonder if it's possible that MG may have threatened at least some of the surviving cast mates with a freeze (as in 'I'll never go to another reunion/con/meet-and-greet with you') if they openly said what may have happened to JG.

She sure seemed rather  . .. detached when mentioning how he amscrayed from the family when he became an adult in her autobio with more of 'never wanted him around in the first place so good riddance' tude than anything else!

I don't claim any 'inside info' and the above is pure speculation but I can't help but wonder if it could be possible.

Melissa was jealous when he came but I would hope she outgrew that.  I just know that he wanted to leave it all, took his money and took off and no one is really "gone" with a SS number and working. But all they say is lies, someone on a LHOP site, said he couldn't say much but everyone is quiet and Melissa just says she called police early on which didn't make sense and Alison will make up things that are funny like "monk" or acting in plays or the poor guy who is always said to be the wall street "Jon" who isn't him. He didn't go to that college, the other guy did. Just sad. Richard was the closest I think in saying he wasn't happy at home and left. Melissa Sue and one of the Carrie twins said they kept in touch a short time, Melissa Sue I think it was she knew someone who knew him. Melissa G said she has seen him twice in all those years if I remember right but the silence speaks more than the words. Oddly I noted he didn't seem to keep in touch with his step sister either.

In the book, the author gave Katherine the most time (of course) but I am glad they gave him kudos when others tried to make fun of him or say he wasn't professional when he was just 6 or so.  He did fine as much as his part would give him. I noticed he wasn't interviewed then either as the girls were. I just hope he's okay and living his best life.

Four actors from Little House on the Prairie:
    - Karen Grassle (Caroline Ingalls), 14 pages
    - Katherine MacGregor (Harriet Oleson), 21 pages.
    - Richard Bull (Nels Oleson), 14 pages
    - Dabbs Greer (Reverend Alden), 14 pages
The interviews with Richard Bull, Dabbs Greer and katherine MacGregor were made shortly before their passing.

All pictures published in the magazine are courtesy of the actors. Most of them are very rare and previously unpublished.

  20. Yes, you are right, the males were quiet. A lot of "Albert" fans wanted a bio but he has also been very quiet.  No real  interviews with Matt. I know he played on the set with Jon but nothing on him either from his LHOP friends. I think there is a "do not tell" with some. If they lived longer and wanted some money I think Richard Bull might have or Doc Baker. He was vocal about  pay and things like that.

Thanks for reminding me about Katherine's bio. How sad. There was a great interview with her and Richard Bull and Karen and Dabbs in a magazine from a guy in the UK I think. I can't believe I gave it away to a fan. I would love to read it again. She was very honest about her dislike of Mr Landon at times and his affair and flaunting it, etc She also praised when deserved. I also loved how both of them , Richard and Katherine, spoke so highly of Jonathan Gilbert and no one else remembers him. Melissa Sue liked him and kept in touch with a friend of his for a while but everyone else was weird. Katherine thought Matt was slightly odd but Jon was bright and learned his lines and was a pleasure to work with. His mom not so much, She was all about Melissa. Magazine was called "Prairie Memories" by Patrick Loubatière. prairiememories.thumb.jpg.cb7ca12dee8affa938a5a89dfdc8308d.jpg

  21. When Carroll did "in the Heat of the Night" Ketty starred in an episode called Gunshots. Maybe more, I don't know but nice they were friendly.

I would have LOVED a Katherine bio over all the rest of the ones written. She was spunky, honest and crazy, lol. Maybe not the type to do one but I would have loved it. Alas we have many, but it gets a bit much when the "babies" are writing them. ; )

Richard Bull also did a lot of TV that many missed or didn't know.

The episode was broadcast in 1973 (IOW about a year before LHOTP). Miss MacGregor was billed there as 'Scottie MacGregor' instead of 'Katharine. . .', Oh, and anyone watching it hoping for a battle between Archie Bunker and the Archie Bunker of the Prairie, forget it. They had Miss MacGregor play the role of a nurse rather straight with zero hint of Harriet's wackiness, sneakiness or cardboard villainy. I wonder if she might have known Carroll O'Connor when both were  still starving unknowns?

I don't know about Katherine but Ketty did.  From her bio

"Ketty Lester talks to Ed about her love for acting, which began when she was a young girl in Arkansas; how she formally studied acting at Theatre West in Los Angeles (and befriended, among others, Carroll O’Connor); and how she successfully transitioned from nightclub singer to actress when the music industry changed in the late 1960s."
