Angela may be a nice woman. She may also be playing a role. We see a particular edit.

What we see is abuse. She comes across as controlling, needy, and insecure. Mykull comes across as he is letting himself be abused like this. It may be genuinely toxic or it may just be a show.

We say that about Family Libby, too, but to me it's all the same. Whether she's like that in real life or not, if you're really a "nice woman" but you're willing to play the part of a controlling abuser just to be on TV then you're still an asshole. It's one thing to play the part of a raging lunatic in a scripted series; everyone knows that's fiction. But when you're literally playing yourself you're allowing the public to think that's how you truly are. This is one case where creative editing can't be blamed.

Modern medicine is so amazing. Angela has gastric surgery, but it's Michael who loses 273 pounds of ugly fat! Go figure.

I may have to stop watching this franchise. There are too many seriously criminal and abusive people here, and watching them makes me feel complicit. Plus, Pillow Talk is no longer fun when the clowns on the couch yuk it up as monsters like Angela abuse their Third World hostages. I've possibly reached my limit.

That made me super uncomfortable. Angela berating and humiliating michael in front of the innocent tech guy was not a "you go girl" moment. And Anny should've remembered how SHE felt when PornGranny offered her money to return to South America.

Well I dozed off last night but I did catch Steven and Olga and baby (adorable toddler like 3 years old or so?).... they both looked good, and happy. They were getting a van and were going to be living the "van life". I smell new series? Anyway, it looked way more current so I guess they are together?

(I tried to find the right thread to post this as I am not sure what the actual show was. It did also have Tariq's bro and Filipina wife about to give birth  over there. As I said, I dozed off so I don't know what else was on it!)

It's 90 Day Diaries and we didn't have a thread for it. I just made one.

  4. Or, as Tom calls it on his Instagram and LinkedIn, "90 Day Dairies." (Which I think would make a better show...)

We're into S2 but I can't find a topic for the show so I started one...

S2E1: the biggest standout was Tom. We finally got to see his girlfriend Mariah in the flesh. Frankly, I'm shocked as hell that she's a real person and not a statue but since she appeared to be blinking out SOS messages throughout the show I'm still not convinced that she's with Tom of her own freewill. I think he courted her so that he could continue his appearance on the franchise. Unfortunately, I don't think she's in on the plan.

Also, I know I've mentioned this before, but my in-laws live right there by Tom's house. I could throw a rock and hit him-which I haven't done yet but I also haven't been to the UK for awhile. Yes, that house they show is his. No, he does not live there alone. He lives there with him mom, sister Emma, her boyfriend, and their kids. The house has been cut up into sections. Tom doesn't have access to the whole house.

There were probably other people in this episode but I watched it last week and I've slept and stuff since then.

S2E2: Marcel and Anna might be one of the few "real" couples on the show, and without all the manufactured drama I think they're actually pretty cute. They ARE able to communicate without the translator and they've actually been able to parlay their 90 Day fame into a thriving business. In the world of the 90 Day cottage industries, theirs appears legitimately sustainable. Leo is still cute.

Danielle was working it on the pole dancing segment. Good for her for trying something new. Mo was right-shame on TLC for focusing on her old drama with him when they could've been showing how well she's doing with school and trying to do something with her life.

Remember Courtie? Es no parm, Courtie! Well, apparently SHE is the one doing "parm" now...food porn, that is. Yep. She calls it "foot modeling", but let's just talk about it for what it is. She has used HER "fame" into smashing cupcakes with her bare foot. It's as weird as it sounds, but people are actually making bank on this so more power to her, I guess. Unfortunately, when I paused the screen to write this up it landed on her foot smashing the cupcake and now I may never eat one again. Apparently Courtney isn't fulfilled as a foot model so the rest of her segment is devoted to her talking to a life coach. Also, and I say this as someone currently going through the same thing, girlfriend has a goiter and needs to see someone about her thyroid.

And lastly, we get Becky and Zied which really makes no sense since I feel like we've seen them on everything recently. I don't need an update on them because after HEA, Pillow Talk, etc I feel like I'm living with them in real time. There are lots of things I could say about them, but Zied is literally what's getting my 14yo through the summer so I feel weird making fun of him. (Zied, not my son. I feel fine making fun of him.) Zied and Asuelu might be two of the most innocent and wholesome people I've seen on this series. The difference between the two of them is that I can imagine myself sleeping with one but only burping the other.

I still don't get this, though. Why do they all think that they only have 90 days to create their dream wedding? Why TF can't these people do it like the rest of us 90 dayers? Get quietly married at the courthouse, get your green card application rolling, and then take your time planning the wedding you want. You have 90 days to get legally married, not to have a wedding. You can have that whenever you want.

Since I'm guessing they rented the RV, the rental company might require a certain license, or experience driving huge vehicles.

It depends on the class (size/weight) of the RV you're renting. There are many articles out there online that explain the differences and what rental companies want.

In the U.S., different states have different requirements.  The majority of states don't require a special license for driving an RV for personal use, but some do.  And of those, almost all of them are based on the weight of the vehicle or combination of vehicles.  (The only exception I know of is California, which bases it on the length of the vehicle--motorhomes over 40 feet require a special license.)

Florida is a state that doesn't require a special license to drive an RV for personal use.  So anybody in Libby's family who has a driver's license issued in Florida can drive it.

But some states require a special license for certain vehicles even for personal use, and the cutoff point for a motorhome (not a trailer, which is a combination of vehicles) like Andrrrrei is driving is usually 26,000 pounds.  Most motorhomes are under 26,000 pounds; the only ones that exceed that limit are the big ones--the ones people will usually call a "bus," as in, "Nice bus you have there," even though it's not a actually a bus.  But it's big.

It's super confusing because a commercial driver's license (CDL) like Andrrrrei got for a job allows him to transport goods goods for hire (the vehicle is used in commerce, hence the "commercial").  In states that require something other than a regular driver's license to drive a vehicle over 26,000 pounds for personal use, the license you get is usually a Class B (if the "regular" car license is a Class C), but it's often called a non-commercial Class B or a Non-CDL Class B.  Throwing the "CDL" in there is meant to clarify, but I think it just confuses things.

And even more confusing--some states DO require a full-blown CDL to drive a big motorhome even if it's only for personal use and isn't engaged in commerce at all.  So not ALL licenses for RVs are non-CDL.

And worse, even if you're diligent and start digging into the actual statutes, you'll find a statute that says that a commercial driver's license is not required to drive a recreational vehicle for personal use.  And that's true.  But it's not necessarily the end of the story, because in another part of the statutes, you'll find the requirement that a non-commercial Class B is required for a vehicle that weighs over 26,000 pounds, which means you DO need a license other than regular old driver's license, but you don't need a CDL.

Maybe, but I still think he's driving it because. A) none of these women would volunteer because they think they're too bougie to do any actual work and B) it allowed him to have "private time" with Chuck which equalled more drama. Who else is going to drive it? Chuck always seems either inebriated or medicated and I've never heard Rich Husband say a word. Of course Peasant Andrei will do it.

None of the decisions Family Libby makes are at random. They're all made to capitalize on the drama that they (and Sharp) thinks make for better tv.

  7. I feel sorry for Yara. I know the common mantra is "she married him knowing what his work schedule would be like", but I cut her some slack. No matter how prepared you think you are, reality is always a bit different. This also happened during COVID, something nobody was prepared for. COVID kept NonJovi away much longer than he was meant to be gone. New country plus new baby during a pandemic HAS to be difficult. Plus, you know, whether it makes sense to us or not her feelings are still valid. They're feelings. I never had PPD, but I did have the "baby blues" and it was awful. Hormone fluctuations suck.

I didn't fault her for wanting to go home either. Gwen is being amazing, but it's hard living with someone else.

For the record, we don't know how I got COVID either. I got it in early June last year and I hadn't been out of the house in 11 weeks. My husband works with the public, but neither he nor the kids (who also never left the house) ever tested positive or got sick. He had to be tested every 72 hours at the time. It was somehow brought into the house and we don't know how.

  8. I've seen the entire episode so I probably won't be joining you guys in the live chat. Don't think I can watch it twice.

@Frozendiva unless the RV has 18 wheels nobody should need a special license. We have one and I drive it every time we travel. It's not a rig. I think Andrei volunteered so that he could stay away from the other assholes.

So, um, about this scene...The rat isn't the only rodent in the house. (I've circled the...rat.)

  9. It would be interesting if they wound up Rory Gilmoring Tiny Jane. Through the entire GG series Rory could barely do no wrong. She was the smartest, prettiest, bestest writer evah! Bound for glory. The only person who didn't think so was that mean old grinch Mitchum, but what did HE know? She could thumb her nose at him as her town practically saw her off in a parade. FF 10 years (or something) later and she's living the good life as a much sought after foreign news correspondent whose last 2 books soared to the top of the NYT.

Actually, she was jobless, homeless, and had no real life path to follow.

Had we, the viewers, been bamboozled? All that time we thought she was being Mary Sued, when *maybe* the writers had been trying to make a different kind of point all along...?

    Nah.

Within the next 2 episodes Jane's gonna lose Addison for making her take naked pictures of Jane for her new Only Fan's account (after giving her a big speech about how Jane, herself, once had to do something uncomfortable), accidentally set her floor on fire, make drunken advances to a high profile political candidate she's meant to be interviewing and within the final 5 minutes she'll be running the whole media conglomerate.

Sutton, on the other hand, will develop a heroin addiction and lose her job because of a tweet she made 8 years ago-a tweet Kat uncovers and papers Time Square with without first addressing it with her friend, of course.

I mean, in fanfiction, I'd cross this show with Downton Abbey :)

I'm hoping for the day when it crosses with The Village and everyone in Gilead learns that the outside world is carrying on as normal, healthy birthrates and all, and that they've really just been specimens in a social experiment this whole time.

I have a question about Testaments as "spoiler" material...  I've purposely avoided the Testaments thread because I don't want to be spoiled.  But I'm interested in reading the book.  Is the show now following Testaments?  Is the book one big spoiler for the rest of The Handmaid's Tale as a series?

The show hasn't started following it yet, and it may not ever. I didn't care for The Testaments, but it was interesting to see where certain characters wound up. We don't know if the show will follow those character choices or not.

It's one thing for the person who's lived through the hell to decide to count their blessings. It's mind numbingly presumptuous for somebody, who didn't experience it, to tell someone who did, to count their blessings.

I get this a lot in the child loss community. After my youngest died people would tell me to count my blessings and be grateful that I still had my oldest. Feelings are valid and it takes time to work through and manage trauma. It's entirely possible to be angry and grief stricken over one thing while also feeling grateful over something else. The toxic positivity masquerading as "support" is what drove me to thinking of creative ways to kill myself at the time.

All of the flashbacks were so needed in this episode, to remind us of just how vile Fred, and Gilead is, and how many seemingly "little" things June and other handmaids and Jezebel's had to put up with.  That "Don't bite!" segment?  Imagine how many times June and others had to tell themselves that?  It made everything so real.

I actually felt the opposite, that the flashbacks were completely unnecessary and that they just served as a reminder that Bad Things happened in Gilead, even when they were packaged as Good Things. They went on far too long and I didn't need the reminder of how June & Co. had to go along with that shit. To me it felt like they were saying, 'See? Remember how horrible Fred is, remember! We're showing you this so that you're not confused and accidentally feel sympathetic for him when the ladies are ripping off his appendages.'

I don't like it when shows and movies talk down to their audience and that's what it felt like. To me.

Here's another counterargument - go on a website for singles and don't try to "date" married couples that you met online!  Odds are great that they'll be weirdos! 😂

Lol. I gotta wonder about these people who think their first foray into polygamy should be with a couple who is also doing it for the first time. And on national television.

I think it was filmed November December because they were talking about her being back for Christmas to celebrate at Mama's home. At least they talked about that in the beginning. Not sure when she actually is on the plane heading to South Africa, but I don't think the "variant" was around then. I still am surprised that the travel went on then as I wasn't aware of international travel going on in any way but obviously I am mistaken.

Now I have one more question about the remote learning. How would the school know that Daniel (or anyone traveling) is not in the US ?

When I took my kids to Ohio for my surgery the teacher could see the sign-in location for the online work and meetings. Some school systems have "locks" and if your IP location isn't from one of the approved areas (generally within that county and maybe a 10-mile radius) you can't even sign on. We had to get an override permission from the superintendent for them to be able to access the online learning stuff. Even then they weren't allowed to work on new assignments, only catch up on others and do reading through Raz Kids.

You might be able to hide it for awhile but Tiffany & Co aren't the brightest bulbs in the tool shed. Although Daniel does appear to be the smartest one in the bunch (with Carly running a close second) I don't see any of these people hiding a trip to South Africa for 3 months.

This is, after all, the same woman who thought her dad didn't know about her husband's gambling problem despite it becoming her unofficial mantra on an international television show.

I don't understand how the Americans just trusted Fred to give accurate information.  At least wait to see if the information is good before agreeing to set him free.  That said, it did seem slightly shitty that Tuello changed the agreement with Fred last minute.  In real life, could they just do that?

That and, charter member of the boys' club or not, did they really think Gilead would trust *Fred* with classified, important information? I mean, they HAVE met the guy...

Agree. Not ready to say "it was AMAZING" because I have like... huge plausibility issues with so much, but so lovely to see Fred finally get his comeuppance. I assume next season will be The Torture of Serena, June Osborne's Final Fury.  More to say tomorrow when I am less tired.

At this point I say crush Serena Joy's legs, throw the 2 women in a dilapidated mansion, and watch June Baby Jane it.

    I'd watch it.
