  1. Thanks for the recipe! I was planning to make the first recipe you posted. The ingredients were on my grocery list. My market is out of pie fillings for the moment while they renovate some aisles. I didn't want to chance changing the recipe up. It's still on my grocery list for the future. SSE gave excellent tips. I hope you get relief quickly.
  2. Thank you, @Denver Hoosier. I hope they do, too. I've started updating my resume. I want to see if I can get a better job somewhere else. It might be time to move on soon.
  3. Thanks, I hope there isn't an incident either. Earlier this week I went through the refresher training on "Run, Hide, Fight" if something happens at work. What caused me to be concerned one night at work was 4 teenagers were acting out of the ordinary. It's a long detailed story I can bypass. The 3 teenage boys and 1 girl were acting up. One of the boys asked me what would happen if he went to his car and came back with a gun. I pointed to the 2 cameras recording him and told him we have great security. That's when I picked up the phone. I didn't know I was going to have to pretend. LOL. The teenagers decided to go somewhere else to be idiots. BUT, I did wonder if that guy might come back in with a weapon. Six months ago, 2 security guys came to me and told me that 3 teenage boys/men were shoplifting. I was in no way supposed to try and stop them. At least 1 or more had a gun. I was supposed to talk to them nicely, help them if they ask, and let them walk out the door where security nabbed them before they knew what was happening. I was so worried I was going to say the wrong thing. One of the women I worked with quit a week later.
  4. It's the customers I worry about, too. Several times I've had to deal with ridiculously over-the-top bad customers. Even speaking slowly and explaining logically and simply to some people doesn't work. You still get lunacy. One time I felt threatened and had to call security. Much to my surprise no one in security answered the phone. This is still fairly recent. We are told constantly to call security if something happens or even if we think something could happen. I call... ring ring, ring ring. After 30 seconds I had to improvise and pretend I was talking to someone. Now I know that sometimes security doesn't pick up the dang phone.
  5. Poor Dorothy, she deserved much better than that lace tablecloth with craft-looking loops all over the bodice. I'd love to see Randy Fenoli's face if someone asked him for a Dorothy Zbornak gown. I found a photo.
  6. IKWYM! I've watched that show for years. I don't understand the need of some of the brides to show boobs and backside to everyone. The Pnina stripper gowns are awful and extremely expensive! These women can wear a sexy hoochie dress any day of the week. Their wedding day is the one and only day they can wear a beautiful gown and be treated like a princess. Some don't pick the pretty gown and go with the "hooker in white" look. I've checked out some of the gowns on other websites. Kleinfeld wants us to think the strapless gown is the only gown on the market.
  7. The wind knocked 1 of them off the ledge one time. I'm worried it will happen again. Most of the time they're in my living room. Sometimes I put them in my kitchen. I moved them outside to take the picture on my balcony. (2nd floor) I usually put plants on my balcony ledge. I can anchor the containers to the metal railing. I can't do that with my ducks.
  8. I took a photo of my whimsical ducks. I can't leave them out on my balcony. I mostly keep them in my living room.
  9. The toilet planters and this little grouping are totally fun! Yes to @Friedbaloney's whimsy in the garden! That's too bad. A sun room would come in handy. I'd like to put out a few things too. I have a couple of whimsical duck figures. I can't put them by my front door they might be taken. I sometimes put them on my balcony but the wind might knock them over and break them. I have them inside on my display shelves instead. I still get to see them but they aren't out in the weather. @Fishy, your dappled willows are beautiful! Rather ethereal which goes with your morphing fairies.
  10. I used to buy the Charmin and prefer it. I started buying the 1000 sheet roll 4-pack. Those last a long time. Cheaper, too. Not soft. I wish we all had a Plant Man like yours. I'd buy some things I can't do from seeds.
  11. I almost did zinnias this year. Do you have a mix of color or single color? I've noticed the "price creep" on frozen veggies. Target used to sell a 16 oz. bag of carrots, broccoli, whatever veggie, for 99 cents. They raised the price to $1.09. They changed the package to 12.5 oz size for 99 cents. The ones I got last time are 10 oz. for 99 cents. This last year they've added more expensive veggies like Bird's Eye steam-in-bag variety. It's a little thing but I'm on a budget. 9 cents isn't terrible. It's that they keep reducing package size, raising prices, and giving up the affordable shelf space to the more expensive products.
  12. HOW NICE! That is lovely, Booney! I wish I had the money and space to be more creative.
  13. Thank you for the tip! I might try petunias again another year. I thought I was deadheading properly, maybe I wasn't. I was pinching the spent bloom off the stem. It sounds like I wasn't getting all of it. My petunias started out lush with blooms. They end up with long trailers with spindly blooms on the end. I cut one back, but it wasn't happy after that and did not recover. Regarding growing from seed - I already have the containers, good dirt, and the sun is free. Vinca are easy to start from seed. I planted them 5 days ago. Some have already sprouted. Some plant seeds take maybe 3 weeks to germinate. I avoid those. I'm patient but not that patient. I tried that once. By the time I figured out my first planting of 21 seeds only produced 4 viable seedlings, I was having to start over and 3 to 4 weeks behind in my garden. I did that before and got almost nothing. I'm disappointed too much, that's why I'm sticking to the easy-to-grow plants this year. It IS gratifying to grow plants from seed and it be successful. Two years ago, I started harvesting my own seeds. The seeds I saved are hardier than the original batch of seeds I purchased. Two of my friends loved the pink and white flowers in my garden. I was able to share seeds with them! It felt like sharing recipes.
  14. This is why I started growing my plants from seeds. I used to be able to get those little 2" square plants for $1 each. When they started selling them at $2.50 each I turned to growing from seeds. I've got 14 planters to fill. That would be over $60. Since I am container gardening, it's not like I have to fill a flower bed quickly. I can wait for my seeds to come up. Last year at the very end of the plant selling season Walmart was clearing out their plant section. I got several large petunia pots reduced to $1 each. They were great for about a month. Then they started looking leggy and worn out. I love the look of petunia flowers but I wish their growing habit was more like the vinca/periwinkles.
  15. @zoemom, I agree with PearlClutcher and SSElevated. I would have a list of procedures at hand so you can reference it. Regarding the money drawer, if you don't give out change you can count the drawer, write down the amount on a slip of paper and tuck it in the change slots. You won't have to recount the drawer every opening and closing, unless someone paid in cash. People's faces and names will come easier later. I think you are still in stress mode which affects job performance right now. If things don't work out, don't look at it as the end of the world. Drawing from my own circumstances, I don't want to work anywhere I'm not happy. I worked 2 years in a job I hated and the lying bitch tyrant manager liked to make all of the employees unhappy. When I left, I found out there are more low paying jobs available than I realized. I don't have to be stuck in a job that is not good for me.
  16. I saw Guardians of the Galaxy 2 several days ago. If you've seen the 1st movie, I highly recommend this sequel. I liked it so much I'm going to see it again while it's at the theater. The opening credits gets you right into the movie with a clever must-see sequence with little groot. I'm not going to give any details in case you might see the movie. I will say that the characters come together more as a family in this film and even add to their group. The characters progress and it's safe to say they've got more movies in their future. It's like the misfit avengers. Switching movies to Pirates of the Caribbean... on the news earlier they said that Paul McCartney plays one of the minor part pirates in the film. They showed a photo of him made up, but I didn't recognize him. I loved the 1st and 2nd movies. The 3rd had a few good moments but I don't want to see it again. I own the 4th movie but it's just so-so. I want to see this 5th one since it's the last, but I hope it will be good. I don't want them killing off characters just because it's the last, if you know what I mean. I saw Logan earlier this year and wish I hadn't. I'm a fan of most of the X-Men movies even though I think the writers made egregious errors with their hatchet job destroying characters and canon story line. Wolverine was my favorite character, but this last movie I want to forget. Awful from the beginning to the end. If you saw it, you know what I mean. I dragged a friend to it and now owe her a movie.
  17. When I first read that I thought it meant your doctor has a police record. Stop seeing that doctor, @PearlClutcher! Oh, he keeps medical records. So much better! lol
  18. I haven't been able to post much the last 4 days. I had long hours at work. Yesterday, I did click on the 3 Stooges Alphabet Song. Maybe that wasn't a good idea. At work I found myself singing it randomly. At least I didn't add any "nyuck nyuck's".
  19. I think @ennui has a good point that electronic games engage the mind, but knitting, coloring, or a jigsaw puzzle would be appropriate. Those are hobbies you can still do while casually watching tv. Davy Jones was cute, but I liked Micky since he played the drums and was funny. Peter and Michael seemed to be more timid and soft spoken of the group. LOLOL! I'm laughing but yes, he was a handsome guy. He had a swagger, smart, certainly a man's man. I can see what Hop Sing saw in him! You all are sooo funny! I did not know Hop Sing and Ben were significant others. I thought Hop Sing was calling everyone to dinner. I had no idea he was ringing Ben's bell.
  20. Moe said many times that it was his brother Curly who was the ladies man of the group. Curly was married 4 times. ITA about Bobby Sherman. Him becoming a paramedic and policeofficer made him even more handsome. I like the good guys. My first "poster" in my room was Starsky. I'd zoom to the magazine section in the store. I'd spend my money on "Tiger Beat" and other magazines to collect any and all pictures. It makes me laugh that now I can't remember the other teen mags but Tiger Beat. Paul Michael Glaser has aged well. I hope everyone is safe and sound!
  21. My parents didn't like that I had a crush on David Cassidy. For my birthday I wanted a record player and David Cassidy albums. They said no. When I was 8 they got me that record player with a record of... Tom Jones "She's a Lady" album. Huh? Tom Jones who? lol My mom didn't want me to like David Cassidy but hip thrusting Tom Jones was okay? Eventually I convinced my mom that it was okay to get DC's album since his mom was on the cover. I didn't know that. What a dang pig he was! I'm glad he caught heck for it. Apparently, his wife did not divorce him. They married in 1966 and stayed married until her death in 2011. He died in 2012. "Medical Center" needed a psychiatric ward.
  22. LOL I told my mom I didn't like doctors. They're bad luck. Whenever you talked to one they'd find something wrong with you. I was about 5 watching Dr. Kildare. As I got older, I figured out it was written in the script that way. Richard Chamberlain was wonderful in "Shogun". I watched it only because RC was the main character. It was a brutal movie, but I liked him in it. He was good in "The Thorn Birds" and as Allan Quartermaine in "King Solomon's Mines".
  23. I love this. I'm glad you found something she loved. And, it's something you shared together. My grandfather enjoyed playing dominoes. I was his little playing buddy since I was about 8 yrs old. It seemed a little thing back then, but now I cherish those memories since it was just between me and him. 5 color crayons? Did they swipe their crayon packs from the hostess stand at Kip's Big Boy? It's hard to get excited over 5. I hadn't thought of checking the dollar store for books. Thanks for the heads up. I need to look around more while I'm there. Another poster said she got a cheap pair of reading glasses there. I found some.
