One is the Loneliest Number: Unpopular GG Opinions
glorie replied to mstaken's topic in Gilmore Girls
We could only speculate, who was close to Rory before the series started. Perhaps there was a male friend of Mia or an employee in the inn. Or perhaps a male teacher supported and encouraged Rory? Yes, you are right. We are told, that Richard was not that much in Rory's life in the first 16 years, but neither were Chris or Luke. Lorelai and Luke weren't that close in the past, she didn't even know about Rachel. Lorelai and Rory were more or less just friendly customers for Luke in the past, I suppose. -

"The closest male figure" in Rory's life is actually Richard (as it was mentioned before). They are very close, they discuss about certain topics together, like books, she trusts him, she counts on him. Whenever she needs anything, she could ask him for help. They have very special and harmonious relationship. Rory likes Luke. Rory knows, how much Luke loves Lorelai and how well he treats her mother. But Luke has no authority over Rory. When Max was engaged with Lorelai, he wanted to participate in decisions about Rory's life (he was also a teacher). And Rory liked Max too. She was looking forward to having Max as a stepfather. Luke on the other hand never interferes into decisions about Rory's life, he just helps and supports. They are good friends, but I don't see anything else. As for Chris - I think, that Rory understands, that he will never "be capable" to be a (good) father to her and she takes him as he is. And she likes him to a degree too. -
Characters You've Changed Your Mind About

Jess and Logan. At first I adored Jess and loathed Logan, he seemed arrogant and smug. Later on I saw how bad boyfriend teenage Jess actually was, and I haven't liked him any more. And I also saw that Logan was actually quite kind to Rory and he has helped her to have a great college experience. And now I think, that they are both ok in their own way. Logan is engaged with someone else (although that is understandable, because Rory turned him down and he just couldn't have waited for Rory all his life) - however, he might not choose Rory but might choose to stay with his fiancée. Jess obviously still likes Rory and he is single, but Rory is not in love with him any more and she is pregnant with Logan. So, perhaps neither of them is really the right person for Rory. -

I feel sorry for Lorelai, because in my opinion she regretted, that she couldn't have attended university (it's in episode where she and Rory visit Harvard, she also freaks out too much when Rory drops out of Yale for a while). R&E were quite difficult (but they loved Lorelai anyway) - and Lorelai decided to go away with her infant. But it came with the price. Had Lorelai endured with her parents for just two more years, she could have studied on university in another city and she could have raised Rory more or less alone. Her parents would pay for the school, for her apartment, for babysitter for Rory (when Lorelai would have classes), and they would give Lorelai some extra money too. She would live in different city and would have an opportunity to raise Rory more or less alone. She would go to classes, but she wouldn't have to work and she would have an opportunity to spend all her free time with Rory. Yes, Emily would still interfere. She would not be happy with Lorelai's choice of pediatrician or with the crib for Rory. And she would always reproach Lorelai for not marrying Chris and would still blame her for shame she brought to her perfect little life. But besides that, she would really try to help. What do you think? Would that life be better/easier for Lorelai (and Rory)? -

I think it was more like yelling, justified by Lorelai behaving extremely irresponsibly in going off to the hospital alone to give birth. I agree that they both should have taken steps to end the dynamic. It was more about Emily's fear for Lorelai's (and Rory's) safety. Emily is controlling by nature, but in that case she was scared to death for Lorelai. Can you imagine your 16- years old child going to labor alone? -

Yes, Rory would be an amazing society wife - just perfect for Logan. So, maybe that is the answer on eternal question: "Jess or Logan"?. Rory is pregnant with Logan, her career doesn't go anywhere, she is selfish enough to dismiss Odette's feelings, and she and Logan care for each other ( I think, that they do). On the other hand Jess would despise and mock "high society" - which might be a problem, if he would help to raise Logan's child. There would be an eternal conflict (on so many levels) between child's father and stepfather. Although ASP mentioned in interview, that Jess was Rory's true soul-mate, Logan and Rory would have had such a comfortable relationship. And Rory is at the time of AYITL not in love with Jess any more (although that might have changed with the time). Besides, Rory is passive. She will go with the flow. Marrying the child's daddy and be very successful wife of the rich man would be just so easy. -

What does Rory really want? Well, I believe, that Rory actually wants to be a very successful career woman. But there is a problem. Rory is overachiever in so many areas, but she's not really very talented for journalist. She's more or less introvert, she doesn't have a journalistic instinct and her writing skills are maybe not bad, but they are also not exceptional (some of her articles at Yale newspaper were not too good). I'm not even sure, that she really likes such a vagabond lifestyle. If Rory has chosen more suitable profession, she might have less problems with her relationships too. She could compare her new lifestyle with Logan's and Jess's lifestyles. She would know, who really fit into her new life now. -
I would also like to spend more time with characters. But IMO a lot of stories are still unfinished. As it was mentioned before Veronica herself might not stay PI forever, she could upgrade her career (become a detective, an FBI agent or perhaps an ADA), there is the question of Keith - his relationship with Veronica and perhaps his romantic life (does he still love awful Lianne?), perhaps we could find out more about Wallace's and Mac's romantic life too. Logan is a solder now. I want him to stay alive, but I could predict (another) PTSD after combat. How will he (and Veronica) cope with it? Will he be able to overcome it? Will they have family etc? Duncan might return too. I would also like to see, how they will resolve Madison/Mac switch at birth. IMO Veronica's rape must be addressed again - including Dick's and Madison's part in it.

Ratings and Scheduling: We Don't Need No Damn Breaks

Was the series canceled? And on election night? Interesting, if true. -
I've always assumed there will bee a triangle between Hayes, Sam and Wallace. Hayes' father was really awful, but IMO he was at least partly correct. Wallace is extremely ambitious. He loves Hayes, but he loves her as a whole. He is thrilled about her connections. On the other hand Sam would have loved Hayes (if he loved her, of course) for herself. He wouldn't care about her social position.

Thanks for both answers. That makes sense.

Well, Logan and Veronica would both have to work hard for their relationship and find a compromise. But they have an amazing connection and it is definitively worth it. I never liked Piz with Veronica, because Piz didn't really know Veronica. He idolized her, but he didn't understand her other side and she never let him really get to know her. He adored her, because she was so strong, but he never realized, how many sacrifices were behind her strength. However, IMO Logan and Veronica could have had a good relationship with other people too. Leo understood Veronica better than Piz, and they could have had a very easy and nice time together. And one of the healthiest Logan's relationship was in high school with Hannah. Logan was a mess in high school, he was delinquent, he made so many bad choices. But when sweet Hannah against every logic trusted him and loved him, he did the right thing and he turned into a nice and trustworthy boyfriend. I still think, that Logan and Veronica are perfect together, because they understand each other and they have strong passion for each other and their feelings are so deeeeep. They also have an intellectual connection, and they both have their snarks. For some relationship you have to work harder, but it could be worth it. What do you think about Logan's relationship with Hannah and Veronica's relationship with Leo?

Wasn't the plot (at least partly) autobiographical? Wasn't ASP's family very similar to Gilore family? -
Why did they choose to make Mary a "bad girl"? I've always expected one of the Camden children would have had to become "bad child", there were plenty of candidates. But I would never suspect, that Mary could have such a trouble. I mean, she practiced sport, she helped Lucy etc. And she was Jessica Biel. I would have expected a different plot line for popular Biel.
