I hope it is Chandler that is fired. And a new bosun  hired. I think all the deck hands started this with annoyance that Rhylee is a woman.

I suspect that Chandler's mysogenist disdain set the tone for handling Rhylee. Then,  as will happen in groups, a pack mentality kicked in and all the deckhands followed his example.  At that point Riley could have been "Deckhand of the Year" and she still wouldn't have stood a chance.

it is simply not a good look that most of her time so far, fighting in the game, has including crying and weeping and feeling sorry for herself.

Honestly? I'm kind of sick of Gabby's weepiness.  I was on the verge of changing channels when she started in again Wednesday night.  Enough already!

ETA:  If I found myself in this situation....... I just don't deal well with stress, not at all, and that comes out in tears.  So they would be flowing freely. I'd like to think I would suck it up but in reality?  The whole tribe would come together to build me my own separate camp just to get rid of me and my tear-drenched drama.

The guest is a sad sick little man. They all are if they want to be around a guy like that.

The guests of the principle are always in the background, non-entities. Even "fiancees" are mere scenery.  Maybe production hires them as "fillers"? They come across as nothing more than freeloading famewhores.

Ok I love Nathan I do but...why does he keep getting older but his female costar/love interest stays the same age? He's 47, she's 30 and it's just so freaking typical of Hollywood to do this.

Hate the relationship, but I can where the age difference comes from.  They obviously met while in training and I doubt very much there were any 40 to 47 year old female trainees for NF  to choose from....... if such a choice HAD to be made. Frankly  I wish it hadn't.

I would absolutely refuse to play the game in my underpants and I think it's wrong of the producers to ask women to do it.

Or men either. I may never get the "tighty pinkies" out of my memory. Totally humiliating for him, and me having to see it.

I hope Chandler is the one leaving.

That? would be production misdirection of the finest kind!!!! Not crazy Caroline. Not PITA "captain" Rhylee. Incompetent Chandler! Yesssssss!

  7. Hadn't  watched the show until the last couple of episodes.  I love the angst between the Seal career and the family's needs.  I was kind of surprised that he set his Seal career aside for the family. I'm hooked, very interested to see where this is going.

Seeing a bunch of people sitting around freezing or too hungry to even think much less strategize, is not my idea of fun but YMMV of course.

    Yup, my mileage varies hugely.

The deprivations that the cast members have to endure really ratchet things up.   Sleep deprivation, hunger, loneliness, cold, etc. can bring out the extremes in people.  The show would be boring otherwise, watching happy comfortable people.

This!!!!   For me, the whole point of the show is how people play while dealing with extreme mental and physical stress. In recent seasins some of the tribes end up so well-set-up they might as well be vacationing in the Bahamas.

Even in the hotel  conference rooms during the typhoon I like to imagine the survivors, soaking wet from the storm, chilled by the hotel air conditioning and  sleepless on the hard floors.  As for whether or not they should have been evacuated I give you Exhibit A, the panhandle of Florida after Hurricane Michael. Production made the right move.

The idea of mom's special tacos verged on absurd but I will take it at face value that grief caused the Hayes family to forget that tacos are not difficult to make.

I completely got this. There are tacos, and then there are Mom's special tacos.

When my Mom passed suddenly she took all the family recipes with her.   That hit us hard. We needed our familiar comfort foods while we were dealing with our grief. Mac and cheese is easy to make, but it wouldn't be Mom's mac and cheese and that was  really important just then, especially for Dad.   Happily, I found that in years past I had written almost every one of them down and stashed them in my files.  That bit of continuity gave us a touch of normalcy in a hideously chaotic time.

  10. Chandler has pushed me to Team Rhylee.  She may be as annoying as hell, but she is doing the work, while he's off napping and heading off to a decent bedtime after lying to his crew, and laying a crappy chore on her.  So glad Captain Lee is on to him.

Original episodes of The Rookie are airing on Tuesday nights.  Episode 2 should air tomorrow (Tuesday) at 10pm.

Well DOH!!!!  ?   Thank you for straightening me out on that. Sheesh,  I was completely locked in on the idea that tonight was the original broadcast.

Yes, all the networks have done this with their new shows this season - Manifest, Magnum, New Amsterdam, A Million Little Things all aired an encore of their first episode at some point before the second episode aired.

Yes, I've seen this,  shows rebroadcast between episode one and episode two. But I don't think I've ever seen them re-run the pilot in place of episode two in the original time slot.  I have  a bit of a conflict between Rookie and Manifest.  Tonight I chose Rookie and was   disappointed to see the re-run scheduled.   I watched Manifest and I'm getting drawn deeper and deeper into the story line.  I may end up relegating Rookie to On Demand watching, in part because I'm a little miffed about tonight's re-run.

Watched Jodie Whittaker on the Graham Norton show this weekend. Two things: One, it requires a special kind of quirkiness to talk about warty cow udders and remain utterly charming. Two, kudos to Jodie (or her stylist) she was holding her own next to Lady Gaga in full red carpet regalia - that's no easy feat but she rocked that suit.

Did not like/enjoy "A Star is Born" (again!).  Any way we can retire this tired old chestnut? No more remakes, please? Streisand/ Kristofferson jumped the shark with this one ages ago. Gaga/Cooper had nothing to add.

    Gaga over-dressed, much?

I love JW as Doctor Who.

I have never believed that my boss had to earn my respect. Instead, it is a given because it comes with the job that they pay me to do.

Just re-read the post and had one more comment. In my world a boss starts out with full respect, both him/her and the position.  From that point there have been those supervisors who have worked their way backwards by being pricks until, while I try to respect the position, I truly dislike the person.

It's a trainwreck, and I don't want to look away. Also, it's fun to see Captain Lee get real every week. I'm closer to his age, so I dig it.

    Love my trainwrecks!

Only nit: why does Nolan have to be in a relationship with his twenty-something fellow rookie!

Agreed! Took me right out of the show.  Hopefully it will end soon?

  16. OTOH,  if you are already relatively calm, merely asking a question, and being told to calm down, that would be just a tad annoying.  Especially if it happens over and over again. After about the fifth or sixth time my calmness would go from 0 to 60 in seconds.

IMO, both sides are at fault here, but  these two guys are proving to be real douches.

The food on a luxury yacht would be wasted on me,too.  Sadly.

And those tiny portions! Where's the food?

I also wonder what the actual cost of one of those (not for TV) trips is, especially given that you got to come up with $15000- $20000 or more at the end for a tip.   And do the unseen engineer-type members of the crew share in the tips?
