Thinking Kate is smart and will never starve, may even always be interesting.

I suspect Kate will be the exception to the rule because she is crazy smart and very much a survivor.

ETA: ....... unless there is truth to the substance abuse issues. Then there's the possibility of addiction issues derailing her.

This is tv.  She must think it's the real world.

Think about it. This IS her real world.  It's not like there is a smart Caroline and a freaked out Caroline sitting behind the keyboard and when the freaked out Caroline is through playing the smart Caroline will take over. That's not going to happen. What you see is what she's got for better or for worse. Again, all of this is her real world.

  3. I want to add to my remarks above about famewhores. They remind me of politicians and social activists who would show up to the opening of an envelope if there were a camera or press involved, never mind what the issue might be. Pond scum at best.

I suspect we tolerate them when they are, for the moment, successful, and of course entertaining, possibly the same thing. Otherwise, piff!  What happens to the Kates of that world when their time runs out? They quickly find themselves boarding the bus for a town called Obscurity. They might claw their way back, but never for long. Pathetic.

I told Adrienne that it had been far too long since she was on BD for her to be so invested in it.

Once a famewhore, always a famewhore.   It's like being born blonde. You can use all the hair color in the world but the roots will always grow in blonde.  And a famewhore can sniff out a potential audience on a skunk farm!  They have no problem piggy backing on another famewhore's ride to ultimate (hopefully) obscurity.

  5. It would be interesting to see how Riley* treated somebody junior to herself.

    Heh - "easily-riled Riley*. Cute.

    * If that's how my cellphone wants to spell the name, so be it.  I'm done going back and correcting it.

Neither Caroline, Chandler or Rhylee is some shrinking flower.   [...]  It is a mischaracterization to refer to any of these people as “shivering deer in the headlights.” Quite frankly, it is one that I doubt any of these “ victims” would agree with.

No sympathy here.  They are not "victims". Just by being there they are proven famewhores and get what they deserve/have earned.  I am absolutely certain that none of these people had to be dragged, shanghaied, onto the show.   And I'm equally sure they knew it wasn't a Hallmark Channel romcom.  Most reality TV can be brutal sometimes even violent, even if the violence is staged.

ETA:  I have to wonder whether Chandler or Caroline's resume would have even gotten them on a normal charter boat. And… if Chandler could get on a normal charter boat I wonder what position he would have been offered.

Production is probably patting themselves on the back right now for casting Caroline.

But..... they didn't last out the season.  With both Chandler and  Carolyn gone  what are they going to fill the rest of the episodes with?  Short-handed screw-ups with picky guests is only going to last so long, until they get replacements. They still have Riley but that's already gotten  old.

Love your nic.  It actually took me a minute or two to figure out what a two  plurker was. Hey,  I'm still on my 1st cup of coffee.

The constant repetition is not amusing, not charming and not interesting.  We would all be better off if the beating of the dead horse would cease.

    Thank you.

Ragging on Caroline, I started feeling like I was kicking a sick dog.  I enjoy seeing what nonsense she's tweeted lately,  but I can no longer post on her personal challenges in life.

I was always on Chandler's side when dealing with her.  Nice to see I was right, she is the ugly common denominator, can't handle respecting any authority.

From the behavior she's displayed, working on her fishing boats must be a living hell.  I cannot imagine a captain who throws a hissy fit every time she thinks someone has disrespected her.

"You! Deckhand! Did you just roll your eyes at me? I am the captain and I will not tolerate..... blahblahblah!"

Actually it sounds like another Bravo show in the making which I'm sure is what she's hoping for.

  8. Gotcha DrSparkles. I was, of course, speaking of crew responsibilities. If they were my kids there's no way we'd leave the dock without the vests. We'd probably have some pissed off crew members if the vests were back at the dinner area  but tough nougies. Boat+kids=vests.

I do want to know who gave her the lock for the cabin door. Must have been a production set up.

I wondered about that, too. I've never given any thought to whether or not the doors normally lock, whether people have that privacy option or not.

    1. Captain was not on the boat. As soon as he announced his return, Kate radio'd him to tell him Caroline had quit.

Caroline quit the night before just as  everyone was going out to party. Captain  should have been informed immediately, that night.  Music-gate happened the next morning.

As an aside, the rest of the crew was working through the after effects of a late night while Sleeping Beauty had the night off and probably even went to bed early.

Kate should have gone to Captain Lee and informed him. [...]  Besides which, it should be Lee's decision as to whether or not Caroline is to be off the boat within the hour.

Rhylee proves that the friction with Chandler was not totally Chandler.  Exactly what does she want?

Surprised to see the Glittering Unicorn have a mini-meltdown but it's understandable.  He expected everything to be set up and wanted his food to be served hot.

Kate/Caroline -  Kate has said in subsequent interviews that she didn't want to bother Captain Lee with the Caroline problem.   An eight man crew is already down one and when a second one quits you don't want to BOTHER Captain Lee?  Captain Lee has said that he was blindsided by the whole thing and that if he had known he could have done something about it before it blew up in everybody's face.

Rhylee - Yeah, with  Chandler gone Riley has no place to hide. And I can see that Ross is being extra careful to handle her with kid gloves until her attitude finally wears him  down.

Adrien - I thought the Unicorn was being particularly passive aggressive with Kate at the water fall.  His inner special snowflake is starting to show.

  13. Life vests - aside from the safety issue, in an earlier episode, when the family first boarded, Captain Lee gave CLEAR and EMPHATIC orders that the kids were not to EVER, EVER, EVER be outside without the vests.  The order was definitive, absolute and left no doubt, except maybe to Chandler?

It probably had to do with taking the vans to the dock.  Kids don't need life vesfs in vans.  IF the lack of vests was noticed at the dock, "somebody" (ahem)  probably decided it was too much trouble to go back to the dinner area to pick them up.

    Just my speculation.

  14. Where can I find the  Below Deck After show?  I tried "on demand" but all they have are the regular shows.

ETA: Found it. Just Google "Below Decks After Show". There's a series of about 14 vignettes of interviews. Fun.

I still can't get over the fact that the kids were brought back by the deck crew on the small boat WITHOUT LIFE JACKETS and there were so many other horrible things that we didn't even hear Cpt Lee mention it!

I saw that and I was surprised that we didn't get to see Captain Lee "dine out" on it but then I figured, production-wise, bloody kid beats seeing Captain Lee chew out Chandler........again. Children on a tender with no jackets? That deserves a royal, first-class, A#1, 5*, take-no-prisoners  ass chewing!

  16. Tips -  If everybody is getting an equal amount of tips you've got to know there's other compensation involved in the program. I cannot imagine chief stew Kate getting the same amount of money for the program as screw ups like Caroline.

Bosun -  If Ross is promoted to bosun and Chandler is demoted does he become the next lower ranking member of the deck crew - #2? That would put him in a position to still give Riley all kinds of grief "translating" orders down the line.  OTOH  I can't see them demoting him to the least ranking deck member -#4.   I'd like to see it but I doubt they do that.

Beach clean up -  I get that the plot was that the deck crew returned and left Kate and Josiah to clean up all by their lonesome. BUT.......where was the Unicorn, and how did they schlep all that stuff, dishes, tables, etc. back to the boat?  Did they have to load it all into a van at the beach, out of a van at the dock, and on to a boat to take it out to the Sienna?
