As a fun bonus, Bastion's mom looks a LOT like a waitress who showed up in the original episodes.

It is.  It's the same woman.

Question to comic book readers: Do you think the last two episodes will adapt

      Hide contents

    Fatal Attractions?

I don't want them to make

      Hide contents

    Magneto villain again so soon

but it seems that's where we are heading.

Not yet.  That might be for next season, even though what Magneto did in this episode is a major plot point in the storyline you mentioned.

    I think

    Spoiler

William Stryker will be a major villain next season as he briefly appeared in this episode.  Whether or not he'll be a reverend is anybody's guess.

  3. Well, we got a whole lot of Cronenberg type stuff in here, sprinkled in with Terminator and Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

    Spoiler

I was not expecting Trish the reporter to be a Prime Sentinel.  Does this mean she volunteered for the treatment?  Did all of them?  The only one who didn't was Val Cooper, who is going to get the crap killed out of her because she let Magneto go.

And the gloves are off with Magneto.  He's not taking this crap anymore.

And does anyone else find it funny that the Shi'ar gave Xavier the crappiest little spaceship they had to send him back home.  He and Lilandra must have one messy ass break up fight beforehand.

On a minor note:  Spider-Man cameo!!!

  4. Something occurred to me.  A lot of people who watched this are going to seek out that "Purple People Eater" song that the bad guy Bastion was playing when

    Spoiler

he killed Gyrich and was shaving Magneto.

I'm having visions of people making fan art of him in short shorts saying "I like short shorts."  And this horrifies me.  😟

  5. I think I know why this episode was titled "Bright Eyes".  Because calling it "Total Eclipse of the Heart" would be too on the nose.  The bright and cheery Rogue is gone.  All she wants now is vengeance.  Throwing Captain America's shield a good what? 20 miles after his "hands are tied" comment was just a sample, but we were past the point of no return when

    Spoiler

she dropped Bolivar Trask to his death.  Or, seeming death as he turned out to be a Sentinel.

And Henry Gyrich and his stupid Frank Grimes haircut are dead now.  Lovely!

In other news, my Emma Frost is alive!  She can turn into diamond like in the comics even though the show is set in 1997 and that power of hers didn't manifest until 2001.  Also, I was surprised to see Belladonna at Gambit's funeral after how badly their relationship ended in the second season.

Seeing the makeshift memorial site for those who were killed actually got to me, especially that picture of Callisto and Leech.  They looked so happy.

And Beast's comment was also sad.  The X-Men were fighting for tolerance when they should had been fighting more for acceptance.

Scott and Jean seem to be on the mend, though I do question why Jean has her hair let down like Madelyne's was.  Speaking of Jean, I keep thinking of something.  Since episode 2, we keep seeing scenes of her from the original series of her as the Dark Phoenix.  Is this foreshadowing something?

  6. Watched A Midsummer's Night's Dream earlier today.  My God, did Mickey Rooney get any award recognition for his acting.  He stole every scene he was in.  He was just mind blowing.  And Bottom's terrible play left me in stitches.

However, the dance sequences were a bit boring and the ladies were singing so high, I couldn't understand them.  Despite this, I still like the movie.

  7. Let me sum up the episode in two words - Nightmare.  Fuel.

I must say, Alyson Sealy-Smith does an amazing job voicing The Adversary you'd think it was someone else doing it.

Oh, and someone important comes back.  And we find out who is really behind the Sentinels.

  8. Just finished Breakfast at Tiffany's.  The scenes at the end where Holly throws the cat out of the taxi and then is going all over the alleyway for him in tears is just gut wrenching.  I have a cat and have had cats so I can't even fathom of having throw out anyone of them.  It all works out in the end, though.

  9. Well, I watched Cat on a Hot Tin Roof last night.  Loved it.  Elizabeth Taylor is a amazing, you can see Paul Newman all ready rising as a star, and Burl Ives is just amazing as Big Daddy.  The sequence with him and Paul Newman's character about why his friend/secret lover (implied but they couldn't out right say it) killed himself is great.  Plus, there's Tennessee William's mastery of the Southern Gothic style that's captivating.  And, God, how I wish I had the strength in me to call kids who annoy me "no necked monsters".

From what I've read Jackie didn't know until she saw the film. She was horrified and provided funds.

Good for her.  It was nice that she stepped up when no else would.

  11. Well, I saw Grey Gardens for the second time tonight.  I can sympathize with being a shut-in who lives with a cantankerous old mother that you often have nasty fights with.

I need to know though is did Jackie Kennedy ever find out what was happening with her aunt and cousin?  If so, did she do anything about it?

  12. That Beau DeMayo says "episode five" is just the warm up and episodes 8-10 are the big ones makes me fearful that we may be in store for one hell of a cliffhanger.  😟

No. just no. I do NOT want to see, nor am I interested in any kind of triangle or quad or whatever! So the only thing they're using from the original is that it's 4-5 months later, but ignoring every damn FUCKING thing that happened in those five seasons? And just using stuff from comics in the 80s?

There was NO MADDY in the '92 series. So FUCK THAT. I don't give any bluedilly FUCKS about that abomination that was Wolverine and The X-Men.

Scott loved Jean and she loved Scott. They were committed to each other. They were HAPPY, DESPITE Logan mooning like ass, acting as if he and Jean had ANY, any chance. They did NOT. Scott and Jean got married. The End.

I am so PISSED OFF right now.

    Spoiler

Between the whole love square, him going off at the reporter during the interview, and the big, major thing that happens in this episode, I'm wondering if Scott is going to snap and become the new Magneto figure for mutantkind.

Oh, I am not looking forward to watching this. I think I'll have a drink while doing so.

You'll need it.  Oh, and Ace of Base's "Happy Nation" gets used in the episode in a very amazing scene.

Quotimg myself here because no one responded when I posted this in the original show thread.😞

    So, @Dandesun , @Danny Franks anyone????

And dammit, I was hoping Storm’s powers would come back! And what a treat to have Allison back!!! I had to laugh at the flashback to the Genosha episode because the Asian mutant in red? His name was Sunspot in the original show’s episode!😄😄😄

But I really don’t like Storm’s hair here. I loved her thick and flowing tresses from before.

And why doesn’t Morph have a nose? Or hair?

Jean was found in a flashback in the first part of "The Dark Phoenix Saga" on rock shores of Muir Island.

Storm's story arc was based on her time in the mid-80s when she changed her look from "storm goddess" to "mohawk biker" and she had no powers.  It had something to do with her becoming more ruthless during her fight with Callisto, which did not involve energy staffs like in the cartoon, but switchblade knives.  Storm succeeds in stabbing Callisto to save the life of Kitty Pryde and the freedom of the X-Men.  When Storm changes her look, Kitty, who looked up to Storm as a big sister type, is rather upset by this.  Ironically, Kitty would go through a similar story arc where she develops an edge and a adopts a dark blue costume to reflect this.

And Morph looks the way he does because that's how he looks like in the X-Men storyline "Age of Apocalypse".  It fits what the producers concept of him being more gender fluid.

  17. Pretty good episode.  It was divided into two parts: one on Jubilee and Roberto and the other on Forge and Storm.

I won't spoil much but this

    Spoiler

Alyson Court returns to voice someone close to Jubilee and it was fun seeing this character use her powers.

We do get some cute nods to Who's the Boss, A Different World, and Divorce Court that got a bit of a giggle out of me.

  18. Well, I just finished King of Kings.  Jeffrey Hunter is my favorite actor to play Jesus.  In fact, I think he was the best actor to play Jesus, no contest.

Mom wants to see The Greatest Story Ever Told, though, as that's her favorite.  It's almost four hours long, though, and will be on Spectrum's OnDemand service, and she'd like me to watch it with her.  I suppose I should.  I mean, I had her take me to see Avengers: Infinity War five times when I was in a serious bought of depression and that movie was the only thing cheering me up.  I owe her much for that.

I thought Storm knew who Forge was from the original series where his X-Factor team fought with the X-Men? I zipped through the series again so can’t recall. And if she was there, her not recognizing Forge makes no sense.

She wasn't.  It was Cyclops who led a squad on X-Factor's headquarters, so Storm has no idea who Forge.  I don't think his meeting Storm is a coincidence given that he's a government agent.

  21. One thing that surprised me as Bishop leaving the team after the hype they built up of him joining.  And never explained why he was stuck in the past in the first place.

Oh, I'm liking how they're doing the opening credits, showing major scenes from the original series (The confrontation at the missile base from season one, Jean becoming the Dark Phoenix, Bishop going through time, Lilandra killing Jean to keep her from becoming the Dark Phoenix again).  Good stuff.

And we got to see Roberto again!

  22. I'm not going to spoil much for this new episode except this - David Cronenberg was probably a big influence.

I didn't think it was very emotional and was prepared enough.

Only thing is that I am slightly annoyed that they now have a gun that can take mutant powers away. Seems cheap.

But overall I really liked this. I'm in. Wondering who the second Jean is.

    Really?   You weren't moved when

    Spoiler

Storm realized she lost her powers by reaching up to the sky and not being able to summon the wind or rain or anything and was crying?  Or her reaction when Beast tells her the effect is permanent?

This plot development is from the comics.  Back in 1984, Storm was hit by a blast from a power neutralizing gun and was powerless for 4 years.  The gun was not created by the Friends of Humanity, but by Forge and it was intended to be used on Rogue because the government believed she killed an FBI agent and were out to arrest her.  Forge is able to nurse Storm back to health and something close to love develops between them until she found out that he created the device that depowered her and she angrily leaves.  The story is called "Lifedeath", which is also the title of one of the upcoming episodes.

There's also "Lifedeath 2" where Storm ends up in village in Kenya being treated for injuries she got from a pair of white supremacist mutants who were hunting her (and other Africans) for sport.  Don't worry, they got theirs in Uncanny X-Men 200.  I don't know if "Lifedeath 2" will be a direct adaptation, but it does involve the woman Shani, the woman Storm helped in giving birth to her son MjNari, though the MjNari in the comic story is a very old man who leaves the village to go out into the wilderness and die as the village has very limited resources and food, so he, as the eldest in the village, must leave so the younger generation can have what little there is.  Somehow, finding out about all this gives Storm the strength to carry on.

It wouldn't be until Forge and Storm were shunted into a dimension by an entity called The Adversary where time passes differently that she finally got her powers back.  She and Forge re-developed their romantic relationship while in that dimension, so there's that.
