  1. I don't see how Meredith did anything wrong to Amelia here? For one thing, she's known Owen a lot longer than she's known Amelia - of course she'd want Teddy to tell him the truth. Owen has wanted a child forever. Second, she literally laid it out quite clearly: it would be awful for the child to grow up and try to seek out his or her father only to discover that Teddy had kept them apart all because she wanted to avoid an awkward convo. Meredith's mom kept her and Thatcher apart (though some of that falls on Thatcher, too). As has been pointed out, there is no villain here - not Teddy, not Owen, and not Amelia (and certainly not Meredith). That's what I like about this story. It's also clear that they were setting up some stuff for next week (if you saw the promo with Richard/Meredith, you'll know - I don't want to spoil here just in case). But there have been several anvils about Meredith's dad already this season (Cece asked her about their relationship in the last episode, too).

I like Richard acting as a mentor to DeLuca. It's nice to see some male bonds being explored again, and the three of them hanging out is nice.

The slow development of Glasses/Nico is cute. I'm glad they're not forcing it as a main story just yet but giving them some small moments sprinkled throughout the episodes. I've always found Glasses pretty endearing (he reminds me of George).

I also love, love, love Alex's development. I don't think the show is unsure of how they want us to feel about him; he'll always be rough around the edges. That's his character. He was weary of Link at first not out of jealousy as the writers probably wanted us to believe, but because he felt like Link had let Jo end up with Paul - which is what he specifically asked him. I thought it was so refreshing to see him say to Jo that Link seems like a nice guy. In that moment, he is the exact opposite of what Paul was to Jo: not jealous, not controlling. I'm so loving seeing Jolex as a married couple. The small moments they have together are fantastic.

I... don't really care about the Jackson/Maggie stuff. I liked his medical case this week, though, and I sort of figured that he'd say he found his peace in the OR. It makes sense to me. I like that they didn't make Maggie super dramatic about it all, either. She stated her issue (he never should have just left without clearly telling her where he was going or why, especially when they had just started getting serious) but I think she understands what he had just gone through with April and so she made an allowance and is letting it slide. I don't think they're in the clear by any means, but I appreciated how the writers let them actually talk and move past it.

  2. On a Grey's scale, Maggie telling Meredith about Teddy is literally nothing. I mean it's awful in real-world terms, but on the show where doctors do autopsies that the patient's families didn't want, cult LVADs, sleep with patients, sabotage clinical trials, etc. - it's basically nothing.

  3. I love the married Alex / Jo dynamic, and I love Alex as the interim chief. It's been one of the biggest privileges of watching this show for so long to watch Alex mature as a character and find some happiness. For a few seasons in the middle, it felt like the writers didn't know what to do with him - but Vernoff writes him as the complex, nuanced character that he should be; he's a great doctor who will do whatever it takes to help his patients, he's a loyal & loving husband who isn't always perfect, and he's a remarkable friend to those that he's close with. Vernoff writes him as mature and admirable but without losing the edge that makes him interesting and fun to watch.

I like that Meredith isn't being tied down to any one person. There was flirting with Koracek, the dreams about (and awkwardness with) DeLuca, the run-ins with Link, and now this date, which I actually found quite fun to watch. It's refreshing that she's actually playing the field rather than the writers just throwing in an obvious suitor and calling it a day. It's nice to see her putting herself out there again - the idea that she can have it all and is open to love is a nice thing to see onscreen for a woman of her age.

I feel like Richard is headed for a relapse. I appreciate that they're not rushing into a ton of stories at once but rather sort of spreading out seeds for each character that will likely blossom later on. It's the same thing Vernoff did early on last season and it worked well to make an overall satisfying season.

Amelia post-tumor is so much more bearable. I can actually stand the character when she doesn't spend every episode giving awful speeches and yelling at everyone. This more vulnerable side of her is endearing, especially coming out of so much darkness. I feel the same about Owen. I really enjoyed his character when he was first introduced, but eventually his constant misery got so tedious. I'm glad that since last season we've gotten to see a less tortured Owen - the drama works much better when it's not constant, but rather built up to. I'm eager to see how things play out when Teddy finally drops the bomb.

Maggie is... Maggie.  I don't really blame her for blabbing, and it's hardly the worst thing any of these docs have done. Watching Amelia & Owen (finally free from the above-mentioned darkess) build a life while knowing that Teddy has this huge bomb to drop would be eating Maggie up. She was bound to tell someone eventually & Meredith was probably the best person to tell.

  4. 15x04 - Mama Knows Best - Meredith turns heads when she shows up to work ready for a blind date later that day; Alex makes a questionable decision in order to save a patient; the burden of knowing Teddy's secret keeps Maggie up at night.

Eh, I understand that there will be interns. But I don’t find any of them interesting or necessary. If you’re worried about a show being too full, the easiest way would be lose at least one of the Interns like they have in the past. Percy, Reid, Brookes, Leah, Stephanie, etc. were all on the show and then they left. We still have all of the new interns and maybe some will leave in season 15...but the excuse of “too many characters” to fire two regulars/fan favs doesn’t work for me when you keep a bunch of low-level characters, and then hire two new docs.

But they're literally just glorified guest stars, so it's a false equiviliancy. None of the interns get the attention or screentime that April or Arizona (or any other regular) would. It's been clear the last 2 years that they struggled to find stories for Arizona. This show thrives by bringing on new characters. They're still down 5 regulars from season 13 to season 15 (Ben, Riggs, Steph, Arizona, April), which makes way for new blood without overcrowding.

There's a word missing there I think. Grey's had too many female characters, so kick two out so there can be more man-eye-candy. Or something. If you had too many characters, get rid of the interns! I don't think anyone would have been upset if they just disappeared this season.

The interns are not regulars. They have nothing to do with April and Arizona. The show will always have interns, by design.

  6. In her new TVLine interview, Camilla confirms that Alex's mom returns and we'll see "a lot more" of his family, including other members. She was also told that there's a "strong" possibility of Jo finally meeting her parents.

She also mentioned to PopSugar, "In the premiere, you're going to meet some patients that stick around for a while, too. Also, I just have to say we have some crazy medical that ends up happening this season early on. We were in table reads and turning the page, and you think it's just sort of a regular patient moment, and then you're like, 'What?'"

It’s not even just the number of characters. It’s the poor job they’ve done integrating new characters into the core cast the past few years, imo. Then they don’t really work so they write them out.

Krista has been better at this; Koracick is the best new character they've added in ages, so I have some faith about the new guys coming on.

Meanwhile, ABC has released the official premiere synopsis.

15x01 / 15x02  - With a Wonder and a Wild Desire / Broken Together - The doctors vie for a new position; Meredith struggles to stay focused; Amelia and Owen try to figure out their relationship; Jo and Alex's honeymoon doesn't go as planned; Meredith bonds with a patient; Jo forms an unexpected alliance.

  8. From TVLine:

Good news, Jolex fans: When Season 15 kicks off, the newlyweds aren’t just still in the honeymoon phase, “they’re literally on their honeymoon,” says showrunner Krista Vernoff. “We pick up the day after the end of Season 14.” Which means that Owen doesn’t yet know that Teddy’s in Seattle — or that she’s pregnant with his baby. “You’ll see the scene where they see each other for the first time since Germany in the premiere,” the EP promises. After that, the parents-to-be and Amelia will get tangled in what Vernoff calls “the most complicated love triangle I have ever written — [because] there are no villains.” The scribe is less forthcoming about Meredith’s new guy. In fact, “I cannot tell you a single thing about the man who will become the next great love of her life,” she insists. “Not even an adjective.” At least she admits that Grey “has a lot of courters this season, and I think some of them will surprise you.”

BONUS SPOILER!: Vernoff is also reluctant to reveal too much about Chris Carmack’s “ortho god” — even his full name since she says it’s funny. “But we call him Link. He was once the team surgeon for the Seattle Mariners, so he was a bit of a rock star.”

    Also: Koracick is back!

  9. As long as Krista handles a new romance with care, I'm fine with it. I'm optimistic about season 15 considering that 14 was possibly the best course-correction in the shows history, and to me one of their strongest seasons ever. I thought Martin and Ellen had decent chemistry but the writing in season 13 totally destroyed them as a pairing. Her spark with Scott Speedman's character was fantastic and it was also extremely well written. I kind of like the idea that Nick was this guy who came into her life for a day and changed her whole perspective on everything (that was basically the entire purpose of the episode, with all three stories totally changing those characters in just a few hours) - they weren't meant to be, but they had a great connection and it opened her up to a world of possibilities.

  10. No immediate love interest for Meredith, it seems. Per TVLine, Channing Dungey had this to say today at the TCA:

“Meredith [is going to] have a new trajectory that is more focused on who she is as a single mother and surgeon” — including her “emotional” investigation “into a medical condition that is very close to her own family background and history. Ellen has spoken very loudly about how she doesn’t want all of Meredith’s adventures to be romantic ones.”

“I’m not saying no. I think we’ll get there [eventually]. I’m just saying that she’s on a trajectory that is very much about her evolution as a doctor and a parent. There’s been a lot of dating, and I think [Ellen’s] excited — we’re all excited — to explore some different aspects of the character.”

Asked why Grey’s didn’t further explore the palpable chemistry between Pompeo and Season 14 guest star Scott Speedman by bringing his Dr. Nick Marsh back, Dungey responded, “That’s a question more for [series creator] Shonda [Rhimes] and [showrunner] Krista [Vernoff] because I don’t know all the ins and outs of it, but I agree. I thought that was a fun relationship. But, ultimately, we decided not to keep going with it.”

  11. From Ausiello:

In case there was any doubt, the father of Teddy’s unborn oven bun is definitely Owen. As Kim Raver notes, the finale twist was foreshadowed in Season 14’s 17th episode, which allowed “the audience to understand the love relationship that… [Teddy] and Owen have.” But Raver is quick to remind us that the pair’s road to parenthood will be paved with at least one massive landmine. “It will be complicated because of Owen and Amelia!” the actress exclaims, before teasing that there will also be some “fun stories to tell within that [triangle] story… What I love about how [Teddy] is coming back again is it’s complex. Life is not simple, and that’s the fun of Grey’s.”

  12. Carina is definitely back in a guest capacity, as are Glasses and Casey (so I assume all of the interns). They've all posted on Insta about being onset. ABC released the generic season press release and only Kim has been added as a regular.

“Grey’s Anatomy” stars Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey, Justin Chambers as Alex Karev, Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey, James Pickens Jr. as Richard Webber, Kevin McKidd as Owen Hunt, Jesse Williams as Jackson Avery, Camilla Luddington as Jo Wilson, Caterina Scorsone as Amelia Shepherd, Kelly McCreary as Maggie Pierce, Giacomo Gianniotti as Andrew DeLuca and Kim Raver as Teddy Altman.

Was it just Kim that replaced April/Arizona? I actually can't remember if they added a new regular who I've forgotten..

Yup, just Kim as far as we know. I think they'd have announced by now if we were getting any new series regulars. No word on if Carina will appear at all, either.

Probably because of the cast changes. I always love the excitement of them coming back to set.

Anybody know if the interns are returning? I know they're annoying but at this stage I'd prefer consistency. I don't want another new crop of them.

I would assume so since no announcement was made noting anything different. Luckily it seems that none of them have been upped to regular yet.

Also, it seems yesterdays EW shoot was for a cover story. One setup was Kim and Caterina in the elevator in full glam / fancy dresses.

  15. Looks like they're wrapped in Seattle; Camilla mentioned that the first table read is tomorrow! Jesse Williams was involved in at least one night shoot last night, and there was also a 'sisters' scene shot with Meredith, Amelia, and Maggie having ice cream together. If they use these shots like they did last season, they'll be dispersed throughout the season. Remember, a lot of them were generic-ish shots that could be added to monologues at the beginning and end of episodes (Meredith on the ferry, Alex going for a run, etc.). They're mostly to add to the atmosphere of the show actually being in Seattle so things don't always feel so confined to a hospital and other sets.

  16. Most of the cast is in Seattle. Jesse, Ellen, Giacomo, Kim and Kevin have all posted on Instagram

EDIT: A few scenes shot so far:

    - One with Amelia, Owen, and Teddy. Amelia seems to be running after Teddy.

    - One with Jackson and Maggie.

    - One with Teddy and Meredith sitting together on a bench (I'm excited at the prospect of this friendship, honestly).
